Sage 300 ERP (formerly Sage ERP Accpac) Accounting Software

Sage 300 ERP (formerly Sage ERP Accpac) is an enterprise resource planning (ERP) software system that serves small and medium-size businesses in professional services, financial services, public sector, and other markets such as distribution and wholesale.

The solution comes in three different versions: Sage 300 Standard, Advanced, and Premium ERP. These versions correspond with the scalability requirements of the customers, as defined by company size and the number of users.

Sage 300 ERP is designed as a multi-tiered architecture, so it can run on Windows and Linux operating systems with Microsoft, Pervasive, or Oracle databases. Typically, the system is installed on-premises. Sage has a new cloud offering, Sage 300 Online, as a subscription service for a monthly fee, bundled with basic and premium modules.

Sage 300 ERP connects to the Sage Data Cloud, allowing users to connect to multiple mobile and web services. It also offers multi-language, multi-location, and multi-currency capabilities. Other modules can be added as needed.

Thought you would have updated better drill down functionality and better reports in the system.

Pros

Hopefully once fully set up the reports in buisiness intelligence tools will save me time. Otherwise more cons than pros.

Cons

System set up is tedious and arduous and ever step of the way is manual. Reports still terrible I was expected much updated and improved from 7 years ago when I first worked with it.

The construction company I work for migrated from a small outdated accounting software to Sage over the past few years. Learning to use it has been challenging and if it wasn't for having previous users on our staff, I would still be struggling to learn it. However, now that I have started to master the basics of job cost management in Sage, it is becoming more useful. It is a very powerful piece of software and will continue to provide additional features for me to use as I further develop my skills using it. It is accurate and robust software.

Pros

Powerful, lots of built in reports and forms, relatively easy to use after some training and time.

Cons

Complicated, expensive and takes a very concentrated effort to learn.

I'm new to using this software and it took a little while to get comfortable. However, once I knew what I was doing, I felt confident in using the system. There are still a ton of items that I am not sure how to use but that is mainly because my job title does not require me to do so.

Pros

The data entry is very straight forward.

Cons

It's hard to know you're way around the system as a beginner.

SAGE 300 ERP Efficiency

Value for Money

I began using SAGE 300 ERP to start a project that was just being implemented. I had to build a chart of accounts and record numerous transactions. I was able to do this task with this one particular software.

Pros

The pricing structure is very interesting and attractive and I liked the fact that I was able to design the financial reports based on the company/personal needs in the intelligent reporting module.

Cons

It was not very user-friendly when I tried to export the Accounts Payable report to Excel. I had to save as a CVS file then copy and paste the columns that I needed, which made it a bit tedious. I had to run the intelligence report again from the beginning because new entries were posted. I was not able to edit anymore once I posted the entries so I had to make a reverse entry.

Advice to Others

Since my company is a small business we chose Sage 300 ERP, because it satisfy our needs and we do not have to make any long term commitment. The payment option is fascinating. So companies can pay in advance for one year or more and get a discount. The is also an option to pay month by month. With that said I think Sage 300 ERP is the way to go.

The software is intuitive to use and covers most basic functioning. Some issues are navigating to find breakdowns to create "good" forms to export for data analysis. The dashboard could use a refresh, and better allotment for KPI display. There is a good redundancy for medical device record keeping we utilize within the system; i.e. tracking serial number and lot numbers of sensitive product built. This is a good double check within our Quality System.

Getting the Most out of your (ACCPAC) Implementation

Ease-of-use

Functionality

Product Quality

Customer Support

Value for Money

SAGE 300 ERP Accounting (ACCPAC) is on of the simplest accounting platforms to use out there; however, make sure you have proper guidance when setting up your source files; messing those up or not setting them the way you want exactly upfront can be a real pain when it comes to getting your financial reports. Also make sure to enter all required fields - it won't tell you what all of those are until you see gaps in your data on the financial reports. Hardware requirements won't break the bank and its a simple client-server installation that most can do in their sleep. Training can be accomplished in a few days to a matter of hours depending on your skill level (acumen). The standard package is your GL, AP, AR and your SM. If you have those you are ready to run your business. Add the PO module and you can deal with purchasing as well. This application is for small to medium size businesses. If you reach fortune 500 status or have more than 20 users start looking else where or be prepared to purchase a mega load of third party add-ons.

Pros

Easy to use
Simple hardware requirements
Semi-decent financial reports out of the box

Cons

After 20 concurrent users, cost of ownership becomes pricey
To get enterprise level controls and process flow - you must purchase third party add-ons.
Not enough levels of security for larger accounting departments
No built in auditing - third party add-on required

Advice to Others

Great application for a small accounting department in a company of any size. Usually for small to medium size businesses. If you reach fortune 500 status or have more than 20 users, start looking else where or be prepared to purchase a mega load of third party add-ons. If you do a lot of POs and have many levels of approval make sure to get processing workflow with the PO module straight off the bat. More than decent application when used correctly.

Just like wine with age comes a better functionality and stability. Been using Accpac for 13 years now and it's like a good software

Pros

The batch system. Drill downs. User customization directoties. Security levels.

Cons

The ability to post an invoiced order thereby generating a new shipment isn't cool. The order entry should be like purchase orders. Once all shipped and invoiced it should be closed.

Advice to Others

Value for money. Go buy

The folks at CRM Systems Group have been fantastic throughout the entire process. Extremely helpful and knowledgeable, helping with every step of the way. It has actually been quite painless, despite the scope of the project.

Likes Least

I haven't had much time to use the software for a great length but so far there is nothing I dislike about it so far.

Recommendations

Definitely give this software a try, it's been really good. The other side is make sure the folks who are helping you with the software are knowledgeable and helpful. They are a HUGE part of the entire "piece of the product". The software doesn't stand alone, the company that helps implement it is as important as the software.

The project management portion of the software appeared at first to be a good tool. the more we worked with the product, the more we disliked it. Very difficult to find information, not good reports to show complete picture of job profitability, have to assemble different reports to come up with good clear picture of job cost status.
the accounting software portion is archaic, again extremely hard to work with, archaic system, very ineffective and incurred substantial loss of productivity.

Likes Least

Must spend on training to understand how to navigate through the software and find the information we need. It is evident that the software provided neglected reinvesting in this product and making it user friendly and up to par with other software on the market today.

Recommendations

I would personally not reinvest any time or money in this software unfortunately.

The best part of this program is the capability to deal with complex payroll systems. It allows for numerous pay rates- numerous overtime schedules and numerous union requirements.

Likes Least

The reporting on SAGE 300 ERP is basically non existent. The reports that do exist are not accurate, nor can they be trusted.
The Purchasing module within this program is also very lac lustre. You cannot add vendors or products on the fly causing a back log in the purchasing department.

Recommendations

Avoid SAGE 300 ERP all together. There are many newer software's that have the same payroll capabilities with better reporting.

Sage ERP 300 has long been one of the most reliable ERP solutions in the market place for many years. It is a well known brand represented by an enormous number of consultants. It is also one of the most supported solutions with respect to third party developers, providing solutions to address any market or close the loop on the purchasing / distribution cycle.

Likes Least

technical support is far better with individual VARS than with the software developer themselves. This is not necessarily their fault as it is easier for a consultant to have the whole picture of a clients site.

Recommendations

Research the vast array of third party products that are fully integrated before thinking their is no option offered by Sage for your business.

I work in the IT Industry and I've worked at a company that sold Sage Products to multiple customers. Sage300 is a great system for workplaces that need a Full Ledger accounting package. It is sold in the standard modular state, if you need a feature, you buy it and add it on. AR, AP, GL, Bank Reconciliation, etc. It can integrate with multiple database solutions if I recall. They started out producing for Pervasive SQL, but I think you can get it for MSSQL now too.

A bit of a learning curve to get used to it. One of the nice features is the security of it. You can limit any user's rights to a very fine level.

Pros

Modular, great security, solid product. Fantastic support from the manufacturer.

Cons

A bit of a learning curve for both use and administration.

Advice to Others

Sage tends to work through resellers. Make sure you find a reseller with a solid Sage person on staff.

Have used this software for many years. It's not for very small businesses, but 10+ would find it a good fit. It forces you to do things right and leaves an audit trail. This can be great for the accountant in the business but can frustrate users that like to go, 'oops' I will delete that. You must reverse it. But if you are prepared to learn it, it can be very flexible and uses standard SQL for data. Easy to report on or integrate.

Pros

Integration ability.

Cons

Takes a bit of learning
