PCBC Video Exclusive - How to Preserve Margins in a Difficult Home Building Market
A major theme at this year’s PCBC show is how to remain profitable in a difficult home building market. The solution is expressed in the term “Lean Process,” an operating philosophy and practice of identifying and removing waste in product and process. We interviewed 10 leading software vendors to investigate how software supports lean construction in building projects.
Each vendor had a unique take on the topic and they supported claims with examples from their construction management software. All promotion aside, there were common themes that emerged from our interviews. The words “efficiency,” “cost reduction,” and “time savings,” were frequently used to describe software as a solution. Erik Cofield, National Accounts Manager at BuildTopia, provided a good summary about the need for software:
“Now more than ever builders must leverage technology in a way they haven’t in the past. Having an enterprise-wide [construction] system will allow you to do more with less people, manage construction costs and protect your profit.”
