Penta Releases Mobile Service Management Software
With the increased availability and reduced costs of mobile devices, mobile software applications are on the rise. Construction software vendors are entering the market with fully-integrated mobile versions of their existing offerings.
In an announcement at the recent 2009 AHR Expo, Penta is now participating with their Mobile Field Service software application. A strategic move, we expect this to be a growing segment of the industry with many vendors to follow suit. Penta is in position to gain a share of the market as they are now among a small group of construction software vendors currently offering mobile applications.
PENTA Mobile Field Service software is designed for mechanical, electrical and specialty contractors. The software keeps field techs and office staff better connected during the work day. Dispatchers can view the status of jobs in real-time and send out new assignments as others are finished. Field technicians can log their time on a job, track how much inventory is left over and record customer equipment information. This information is directly tied to work orders, speeding up billing and payroll for the project.
The Mobile Field Service software integrates with PENTA Construction ERP software, a project management and accounting system for complex construction, engineering and service management projects. Used together, the sofware systems can help construction companies increase productivity, reduce costs and overall run a leaner operation. The mobile app is a natural addition to field technicians’ tool belt as it supports the “decentralized and mobile nature” of construction and service. Additionally, it adds another layer of accountability between field technicians and foreman.
PENTA Mobile Field Service software is built on the Dexterra Concertâ„¢ mobility platform. This platform allows PENTA to quickly build mobile applications off of their tried and true Construction ERP software. This keeps development costs down while providing quicker output of new features and software updates. Moreover, Dexterra Concertâ„¢ supports the broadest range of mobile devices.

Houston,
Great write-up. I just wanted to add that we are seeing a dramatic increase in mobile extensions to established applications. This seems to be the move as costs for mobile devices decrease, and 3G connection speeds makes field to office communication both practical and affordable.
Back in 2001, we had attempted this for the real-estate industry for property searches. Technology has come a long way. With the advent of the iPhone and ease of deployment, I only see the area of extended mobile components growing.
