I have been impressed with the solid support team eTapestry has. The online chat has been very helpful to me, and the specialists I have chatted with have always been knowledgeable.

Pros

eTapestry has lots of power to get things done. It is cloud-based, so there is no need for the user to worry about upgrading the software or backing up the data. Queries are very easy to produce, and exporting the results in reports, PDFs or excel is a snap. You can design your own forms so that your website can talk to eTapestry easily. eTapestry works equally well on desktop computers, tablets and cellphones. This is very helpful for fundraisers who are on the road.

Cons

If you are downsizing from a more robust package such as Raiser's Edge, be prepared for a loss of flexibility - for example, queries in eTapestry lack some of the power that Raiser's Edge has. When comparing what you get "out of the box" with some other solutions, you will find that in order to keep costs down for the average user, eTapestry is very basic. To add in eCommerce, donor logins, advanced email, etc these are available, but as an add-on pricing. This can make it more expensive than other products that have all these features to start with, so you should be aware of what your real needs are before committing to eTapestry.

I think it is a great product and easy to make it fit your organization. I also love the online help. Whenever I have a problem I just get on the online chat and we work it out. The online community is great as well.

Pros

I like the ability to create User Defined fields so that we can track precisely what we need to. It is very user friendly and easy to use.

Cons

The title field is not as completely built out as it should be and there is no easy way to delete duplicate journal entries.

They have the best CRM customer service ever. Starting out, most CRMs just make you learn their software on your own. I had a rep actually walk me through everything and set stuff up for me when I wasn't able to figure it out myself. Talk about above and beyond.

Cons

We need a file upload option on our DIY forms and this CRM doesn't have that capability so it's really inconvenient.

Overall, it's a good program for the price we pay, but if it was any more we would change to a more user friendly system. The most important thing with eTap is to make sure that you have an employee who is familiar with database administration otherwise it is very easy within eTap for data to be misrepresented. In summary, if you don't have a big budget, it's a good way to get your feet off the ground, but I wouldn't look at it expecting a 5+ year/long term solution.

Pros

First of all the price for our organization is fantastic, after shopping around for a new database management system, we have found nothing close to what we are currently paying. eTap has decent functionality after you learn how to use it; once you master the basics, it has the flexibility to store just about any data that you need as long as you are willing to get a little creative in how you organize the data. The ability for the data base to be directly integrated into our website and Quickbooks is also a great feature that minimizes potential lost memberships and corrupted data.

Cons

The hands down most frustrating part of the program is that you can't have multiple tabs open within the same browser with eTap. In order to have eTap open on two different tabs, you must use a different web browser and a different login ID, which becomes a complete and total pain. It is also not the easiest program to learn and train new people on. Often we want volunteers to work on data management for us but that is really only possible if the volunteer or intern is with us for at least three months so we an spend the time training them on the program.

I really like the dashboard. It makes it easy to find what you're looking for and see a recent history of actions.

Cons

Before and after Blackbaud

eTapestry has become a tool that can rival any of the more expensive CRMs in the market. The only big step back is that it now belongs to Blackbaud, which has decreased the quality of its customer service.

Pros

It is user friendly for the nontechnical staff when looking for and updating information.

Cons

Not that friendly for extracting information (querying and reporting features). And since Blackbaud bought it, its customer service has become bad and unreliable.

Advice to Others

It is still a great tool for small to medium organizations. For larger organizations it may become too slow.

I have used eTapestry for almost 4 years at a non-profit for donation and donor management. eTapestry has several different price points, based on which modules of the software you want to implement for your organization. eTapestry offers live webinars that provide specific training; interaction with the moderator is quick and easy and all of the moderators have been extremely knowledgeable. It is also helpful to do a live webinar because the input from other attendees is real-time and in-depth.

Pros

The amount of options, training, and customization are extremely efficient.

Cons

It does take time invested in learning if you want to utilize the software to its fullest capabilities.

Advice to Others

If you purchase the software, also purchase the training package for unlimited trainings. You won't regret it.

As a 10+ year Raiser's Edge user, I wasn't too worried about using eTapestry as part of my new job. Boy, was I wrong.
I inherited the system and was unpleasantly surprised to find that this Blackbaud product so user unfriendly.
Even the most basic functions are not intuitive. It take more steps than are necessary to extract the information you need which means it's time consuming and therefore hampers productivity.

For example, running a query shouldn't frustrate the user to the point that they have to resort to letting Blackbaud support login to the system and run it!
Additionally, this platform doesn't have a mechanism to capture detailed notes about donors - something that is critical in fundraising!
If I were using Raiser's, I would be able to go into a donor record, open the notes field and record the gist of a conversation, meeting, etc. as well as set follow ups. In eTapestry, you're limited to a sticky note which isn't exactly the same thing -- in fact, it's nothing like it.

If you just want to keep simple data -- basically a place to record gifts, then this *might* work for you. However, you need to understand that this isn't an easy interface; most functions take multiple (and I mean double-digit multiple) steps to complete.

There are other donor management programs out there that offer much more in a easier to use format ... typically for the same price.

Advice to Others

Know what you want out of your software ahead of time. As I said earlier, I inherited this program, so I didn't know much about it other than it was a Blackbaud product. Since I had many years of experience with another BB program, I presumed it would be comparable. If I were to start from scratch, I would be looking for a program that offered more than just a repository of names and donations. I would be on the hunt for one that could help the organization to grow the mission, cultivate relationships and offer a variety of tools to get the job done and most importantly, in a user-friendly format. Unlike unicorns, these programs really do exist!

I have been using eTapestry for a little over 3 years. I manage all of the donations that my non-profit receives and use eTapestry to assist in that process. It was a little difficult to navigate at first. I took over my position with little training on eTapestry, so I had to figure a lot of it out as I was using it. Once I got the hang of how queries and reports communicate with each other, it made everything a lot easier! The support team with eTapestry has been great in helping me learn all of the functions the site has to offer. They were able to answer all of my questions and make me feel comfortable using the site. We also utilize the personal fundraising pages as well. These have been fair easy to maintain. eTapestry is not the most user friendly for people who do not have a lot of computer/internet skills. I was able to navigate most of it, but had to reach out to support many times.

Pros

Easy way to track contact information for donors, Endless reports that can be created in relation to donations, Great customer service

Cons

Not the most user friendly to someone who isn't great with technology, Some functions within tracking donor's and their donations are complicated, Limited personal fundraising options

Advice to Others

Contact eTapestry support with any questions you have! They will email you a copy of your transcript and send over detailed instructions if needed. They always helped me out and never made me feel silly for asked so many questions!

I am the office manager and I utilize E-Tapestry probably the most in our organization. I use it to manage our donor base, enter gifts, and create queries.

Pros

I do like the amount of information you can store on each individual account record. The search bar makes it easy to find an account if you do not know all of the information and just some of the information. Entering gifts and labeling them appropriately is very easy.

Cons

I would say there is not a lot of educational tutorials on how to performs a certain task. If there are videos to learn certain things they are not easily found. The only reason I know how to use this program is because of a co-worker who had been working on it longer and also using trial and error. It is not easy to delete multiple records. Merging accounts often causes you to lose information. The steps to get a task done are not very well communicated.

Advice to Others

I would suggest looking elsewhere for a donor based software. This one is very hard to learn and use, and with little tutorials is makes working with this program a bit tasking. A software like this should make my work life more efficient and there are times when e-Tapestry does the total opposite of that.

After MUCH research, we made the switch to eTapestry and have never been happier. The product itself is very easy to navigate for all users of various levels of experience. The reporting functions are exactly what we were needing and our Board feels more involved and up to date in all of our fundraising efforts. the ability to integrate into our current website is also a relief as we have seen an increase in online donations because of the ease of use and promotion. After struggling with several different databases, we are so glad to have finally found a perfect fit and "new member" of the team! The support staff is always VERY knowledgeable and eager to help, too!

Good for Database Management, Poor Communications Tools

I have been working in communications and development for non-profit organizations for more than 15 years. I have been using eTapestry for 2 years. I have experience with a variety of other donor management tools including Blackbaud's The Raiser's Edge. eTapestry is strong in regard to contact management, processing online gifts, and the reporting/query tools. The expense as well as the email communications and analytics are where it falls short.

Pros

Entire system is very easy to learn no matter the experience level
Managing donor records and online gifts is very easy
Reporting and query tools are easy to use even for those without a lot of experience building queries
clean, user-friendly interface
excellent customer support
simple data entry & gift processing
online giving pages import gifts directly to database, helping teams avoid manual entry & the pages can be reskinned to match your website design
easy to mass import records

Cons

expensive, especially having to pay for Advanced emails & paying an hourly fee for minor changes
eTapestry support must be requested for an array of minor tweaks to giving pages for example and it usually takes several days to up to 2 weeks to get changes finished
communications templates are inflexible and look extremely dated, often the preview of a communication you see on your screen is not how it looks at delivery, very limited analytics tools and delivery/testing options
as far as I know there is no ability to export from eTapestry to QuickBooks which means gift processing team must reenter gifts manually into QuickBooks
while it has the ability to provide personal fundraising pages, they are highly inflexible and the layouts look so dated they are almost not worth using

Advice to Others

My advice is to really think about what you want to use eTapestry for before purchasing. If you are using it for contact and donor management and online gift processing, I would consider it, as it is extremely easy to learn and use. If you want the tool to also be your email marketing tool, I would suggest requesting a detailed demo on the communication tool and analytics and ask a lot of questions regarding what you need it to do. To me, it seems eTapestry has not invested much in this area, as I have not noticed any new templates or feature improvements since I began using it two years ago. Be very thorough when asking about ongoing maintenance costs and think carefully through how often you will need changes to giving pages, how many records you plan to have, etc as these all impact the total cost.

Easy to set up queries, fast reporting features and an increase of donations because we have more time to focus on the donor and not the software.

Pros

Blackbaud's eTapestry is highly functional and very easy to use. We have almost 7,000 records in the eTapestry database. We found for queries, reporting and lists we are able to create these quicky to return the information we desire. Also, there are customizable features that we use frequently for our specific donor interests.

Cons

Our organization does not have anything negative to say about eTapestry. The service is fabulous and so is the product. We wish it were a lower cost, but feel we get the value out of the software.

We are a small public garden who recently purchased a 3 year subscription to eTapestry. Don't be fooled by the smooth sales pitch - the service is appallingly bad. We purchased what was sold as unlimited phone support at an additional cost. One month later we still have not been able to get a call answered. When we call there is a message saying we are not entitled to phone support despite the check having been cashed one month ago. Contacted them again this morning - still waiting 4 hours later for help - currently on hold. It may be a decent program but there is no help getting it set up. Buyer beware!!!

This unexpected growth has made tracking a bit more involved than our small team can handle. But with that said, I believe eTapestry has a great capacity for detailed tracking that would help any non-profit as long as it's set up in a way that allows for growth.

The system we found very functional and inclusive in all donor and fundraising needs. The record keeping is great and allows you to track what was sent and when and how often. It allows you to find any donor's information to ask them for another donation or a thank you letter. It is a little on the expensive side and not the easiest system to figure out, but all in all, i would recommend it.

It's too complicated for small organizations and not robust enough for large organizations. Since bought by Blackbaud, it seems to have been de-prioritized in terms of features, upgrades and design. Customer support is very good - but you'll need them on speed dial. Great people, great company - but this produce needs a little more TLC. Email marketing function is almost un-usable in today's mobile environment. No moves-management function, etc. 'Entirely customizable' means you have to build your own systems within. Great for basic donor info and gift tracking. Took us a couple years to 'right-size' it for us - and even then, when you have more 'work-arounds' than original offerings, you wonder if there's something better.

This is a CRM tool that is owned by Blackbaud that is for non-profits that have a lower budget. This CRM is very basic that gets the job done

Pros

This is cheaper alternative to RaiserEdge if you like blackbaud products

Cons

It is a Blackbaud product. This was purchased by Blackbaud and it limited it.

Advice to Others

now there are similar products with this price point that does not have the blackbaud red tape

eTapestry has been very helpful in managing our database of clients and donors. I spending much less time gathering information for reports, entering data and generating letters than with our old system. I appreciate being able to get more done in less time. And I feel that the quality of my work has improved with the help of this tool.

Pros

I love having the ability to customize the screens based on my job's needs. I'm finding new and wonderful tools on eTapestry every week.

Cons

The "knowledge base" search is practically useless. It's much more efficient to go to Google, type in eTapestry and my question.

I was hired at Neighborhood Healthcare 3 weeks before its largest fundraiser of the year. I needed to learn eTapestry quickly to accurately update the database with event purchases and I needed my data entry to be fast. Customer support was my go-to, they answered questions over their chat module, emailed me white papers on best practices, and shared detailed instructions on how to be most efficient with our database.

Pros

Customer service was fast, knowledgeable, and respectful. I never felt like I was asking a dumb question and they always had an answer.

We' recently started using eTapestry for our nonprofit. We have all of our contacts, clients, donors, volunteers and others stored in the program. We absolutely love it!

Pros

We really like that so much is customizable. We were able to work with the set up team to make the program exactly how we needed it to work. I love that I can still go in and add things that I need or get rid of things we don't track anymore.

Cons

It would be nice to have one area that was a simple biography on a donor instead of having several notes to look at.

I have used the software in my work for a nonprofit 501 c 3 organization. eTapestry has a clear, intuitive structure that is also easy to personalize. I feel like information that before was spread out over our intranet, email marketing software, and donor database system is now together in one place for streamlined communication.

Pros

Easy to use, offers personalization, organizes complex information simply

Cons

The "Help" section can be confusing. You can easily end up looking up with answers that pertain to other Blackbaud products and tracing your way back to eTapestry specifically can be confusing.

I've successfully recommended (and often purchased, converted and protocoled) this particular tool on eight different occasions. It is easy to use (I can get a volunteer using it within 30 minutes), has loads of great features and is flexible enough to suit a wide range of organizations. While I agree that customer service has been spotty since Blackbaud acquired it, it is possible to request a more experienced person to assist you if you find yourself getting frustrated. An all round great product.

In over 30 years of fundraising practice and consulting, I have led quite a few database set ups and conversions. I go through the whole rfp and review process each time to avoid cutting corners and making sure we have the right tool for the job. I have gladly selected eTapestry twice for my own employers and recommended it to several other clients as a great starting place for building and growing a quality back office. There are other good systems out there, but I have always found that eTapestry provides the "GREAT." Great product, great service at a great price.
