GoodData Software

GoodData is a web-based, end-to-end business intelligence platform that delivers comprehensive, accurate analytics in real-time. With their integrated suite of tools and applications, users across departments will have access to critical metrics, giving visibility over sales, marketing, social and customer service efforts. GoodData provides this information in a transferable, easy-to-understand format that will help measure and improve performance over time.

GoodData pulls insight from combined points of data and gives instant access to ad hoc reporting. At the core of the system is the GoodData platform. It’s scalable, secure, and works with any data source. They can offer clients the choice of a private or public cloud through Amazon AWS and Rackspace/OpenStack. GoodData’s modular infrastructure ensures reliability.

The Powered by GoodData feature allows companies to embed GoodData directly into new or existing applications. With this, companies can customize analytics to reflect their brand. GoodData also offers a handful of apps right out of the box that will report on sales, marketing, customer service, box collaboration, and user disposition, including trending, waterfall, conversion, cohort and segmentation analyses.

GoodData can be up and running in 90 days. They also offer additional services such as consulting, data loading, and training. Since it’s web-based, it has a lower barrier of entry and doesn’t require the need to invest in additional IT services or hardware. We found them to be great fit for business executives, analysts, and development teams in enterprise level organizations, cloud service providers, media agencies, and systems integrators.

The front end and back end model are both available. I like the cloud solution and customer service.

Some functions still need to be improved for BI reporting. It's missing some key features compared to Tableau.

Recommendations

This is a good software for small/midsize company. If you have a large company, I would recommend SAP, as it has more ability to handle complex divisional data.

I have a free GoodData account that came with our Enterprise level Zendesk account. This has a limited feature set when compared to the much more expensive Enterprise version of GoodData, but for our needs related to measuring tickets, issue frequency, features for the backlog, and creating visualizations for this data, it works great.

Likes Least

I looked into the Enterprise version, and it was incredibly expensive, prohibitively so for a small tech company with 40 employees.

Recommendations

If you have the money, GoodData is great. We, however, do not have that kind of scratch to devote to data visualization, so we are making do with lesser tools and some pretty clever workarounds. Their sales demo is very informative, and from what I gather, they have a good onboarding program. If you demo the system, ask lots of questions about what it can do, as there is a lot that it is capable of.

I have the free version of GoodData that comes with our Enterprise Zendesk plan. For what we need it for, it works exceptionally well and is very easy to use out of the box. Slicing and dicing data sets is very easy, as are visualizations and data exports. No complaints.

The enterprise version is way too expensive for a company of our size. It would be great if they had a more budget-friendly version of the license that does more than the free version.

Recommendations

Our version came free with Zendesk, so there wasn't a lot of evaluation. It works well for what we use it for.

The tool allows you to create some beautiful reports and dashboards. However, the real beauty in this product is in how you create the reports and dashboards. Don't select an analytics platform without spending time in the report builder! And if you do, you'll find that GoodData does that part better than anyone else.

I also love how GoodData is working with other vendors to be at the forefront of the User-Centric IT movement. This, to me, bodes extremely well for the long-term outlook and vision for this company. They care about the end user experience, and it shows in their product.

Likes Least

Beauty, power, flexibility, and a complete solution comes at a price. While they're not more expensive than other products in the same category, it's not an inexpensive solution.

Recommendations

I mentioned it earlier, but spend time in the report builder. See how you build dashboards. See how you connect data sources. Every analytics tool can give you reports that look nice; the difference is in how you create them.
