MINDBODY is a cloud-based club management and appointment scheduling solution designed for the needs of small to midsize businesses. The product is primarily used by gyms, fitness and personal training centers, salons, spas and massage centers, wellness centers, dance schools and yoga studios.

MINDBODY offers features such as scheduling with wait list management, appointment booking through Facebook, automated scheduling of email and texts and online bookings. Memberships can be managed through MINDBODY as well.

MINDBODY also features a toolset for marketing management. With MINDBODY, notifications and alerts can be set up for customers, targeted marketing campaigns can be launched and marketing reports can be generated and assessed.

MINDBODY also offers staff management features, which include check-in and check-out management, role-based permissions, payroll management and calendar integration.

MINDBODY offers custom API access that enables third-party developers to integrate their platforms with the solution. The product offers a marketplace for applications that can be integrated with MINDBODY, such as Spafinder Wellness 365, Xero, Perkville, RelateLOOP, Zcubator and WaiverKing.

I really like how easy MindBody is to use if you have a small business. I also really appreciate the customer service even if it takes sometime to reach a tech.

Cons

BRANDED WEB. Because MindBody bought HealCode, but hasn't made a lot of updates to it, HealCode (Branded Web) does not provide the features or functionality needed to use it with MindBody/our website. The only answers I ever get are "No" and "We are working on it."

I can see great potential with this software, but the improvements are made to function better for Yoga studio/Gym. There should be something that makes this software geared to the type of business that you are running. Hair salons carry A LOT of inventory and that are of this software is a sore spot. Being able to keep the calendar open and functioning while checking someone out is a must, as pre-booking an appointment usually happens simultaneous of the guest being checked out. Very pretty look, good app, but needs some work to be more marketable to the Hair world

Reliable but slow

The scheduling is so easy to use and most importantly it is easy on the eyes. You look at the schedule and it makes perfect sense. You aren't having to hover over anything to figure anything out, what you see is what is it. The payment taking is also so easy. I have been using this for over 5 years now and they continue to make updates that are so helpful. The reporting system is also another huge plus. I honestly can get every report I need from Mindbody.

I have worked at other establishments with scheduling systems but none of them compared to mindbody.

Sometimes they do get rid of features that I like to use and it throws me off and then I have to figure out a new way of doing the task I am doing.

Recommendations

Watch the tutorial and what they show you is truly what you are getting. It really is that simple to use. It is honestly the best scheduling software you are going to find.

MBO does a good job at storing client data and many people already use the MBO app. The app does not work for us, because we have our own, but if you are trying to build a client base it would be a good too.

It is not set up to work well with studios that have multiple locations and the reporting is not accurate.

Recommendations

MBO is the most widely used software for gyms and studios. It works well for a small business but runs into issues when business get more complex.

It lists classes is in an easy to read format. It is pretty simple to click and add classes you would like to prepay for.

I attended classes at several businesses that utilize this software, however, I have to create a different login for each one. It would be nice if somehow they were linked. For a moment I thought they were because some employees at these establishments have asked me if I have a MindBody account. I did, just not for their specific business. So perhaps the marketing/training/definitions for this could be better.
Also, I am not sure if this is a result of the computers certain establishments are using or the actual software, but the payment process on location is very slow. It can hold up the line at busy times.

Recommendations

This seems to be great for managing a large number of classes offered on a daily basis as well as smaller amounts. I think there is a nice range in showing if a class is full or not compared to just showing the schedule. It seems to cater to the businesses needs well.

The actual customer interface is pleasing to look at. Customer support had a fairly long wait most days, but when you did get through to someone, they could usually solve the problem or let you know there was nothing they could do to help.

Cons

I was contacted by a Mindbody sales rep who said their software would be "perfect" for doing online reservations for my business. I'm more than a bit disappointed in their software. This is a classic example of a very poorly designed system that has been endlessly fixed and patched.

Here is my biggest complaint. The software allows a client to purchase more seats than what are available in a workshop scheduled for a particular date. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT AN ONLINE RESERVATION SYSTEM ALLOWS MORE SEATS TO BE SOLD THAN ARE AVAILABLE? Really, it's true. It is really and unbelievably true. Happens to us week in and week out and I have to call customers to apologize and fix the mess.

Every month I have to schedule my classes and get them into the system. Because the software is so clunky, it takes a lot of time, multiple screens and it is prone to errors. I've recently switched to a new software system and what takes me 10 minutes now used to take me an hour with Mindbody.

Training employees to use the system is extremely difficult. I finally gave up and just did the work myself.

Their latest 25% price increase had me running for the door.

There are other reservation systems out there that you can find on this review site. Don't waste your time with this one.

Nothing. Their Customer Service staff are terrible and failed to properly set up my account, costing me thousands of dollars.

Cons

Refused to answer questions, rushed me through set-up process and said "congrats, you're all set!" when it was only half-finished. I signed up for the membership level that allowed 2-way texting, credit card processing and more. These features were never set-up, despite my explicit request for them. I lost clientele and thousands of dollars because of Mindbody's terrible customer service. They just want your money.

Cloud Based system with a huge reporting repertoire but as a result it takes a lot of training and trial and error to get what you need

Cons

It's too USA customer centric for a truly global system. Scheduled regular maintenance needs to be staggered around the world if you run a global cloud-based system. Trading hours can be affected for hours in Australasia in particular.

Mindbody support is the worst. When you send a live chat from your computer it takes 8-10 hours to respond and then they are rude and tell you they can't help you. Sent in a phone request call back at 9:00 am and got a return call in the middle of the night at 12:30 am! Missed the first time they called and got a nasty response that they tried to contact us and we were not available. We submit for another call back and it comes in the middle of the night again!! We actually got out of bed to speak to them afraid we would never get a call back again. It is expensive already and then they raised the prices by and kept having their sales department call me asking me if I wanted to sign up with them? They didn't even know I had the software???! They care about the dollar by signing up way to many accounts and not fixing their problems. The system is slow and goes down with no word on when it will go up because you can never contact support. Look elsewhere.

The support is great with MBO, and changes actually DO get implemented when you suggest them. However, the app is often clunky for both users/clients and for staff. The UI is not very intuitive, and you often end up having to find back doors in order to figure out ways of doing certain things. As an instructor I do find it useful, and I love being able to sign clients in easily and the scheduling functionality for studio spaces and booking private lessons. Mixed bag. Mostly I have issues with the UI and how it feels to interact with at times.

I use MindBody to organize and search for yoga, pilates and fitness classes in my area. The program allows me to book classes and pay directly from my phone. I really like the favorites feature as it allows me to quickly access the gyms I frequent and compare their schedules for the week. I find that the program keeps me accountable as once I've booked classes I get frequent reminders prior to their start. Overall the program is sleek, streamline and easy to use.

I absolutely do not recommend Mindbody! First off their system is complex and not user friendly and if you're a small business owner, time is not something you have a lot of. The "training sessions" you're required to do are time consuming. The sales team will do anything to get a sale! Even if it means lying to you about their product and services. Not to mention, they charge a large upfront cost and once you finish the "training sessions" and you learn that the product is not for your business, they will give you the run around and will refuse to refund you! Their left hand doesn't know what their right hand is doing. For instance, they purchased the company HealCode that constructs the branded web tools for Mindbody. So inorder to get a widget on your website you have to go through their HealCode Web Tools. HealCode has all of these beautiful widget layouts that they advertise but they don't offer them (false advertising). I spoke to atleast 4 different technical support agents and all of them state that all widgets need CSS coding to make the layout beautiful. But if you specifically asked the sales team this, and they say CSS is not needed for customizations, then they are lying! I cancelled my subscription exactly 2 weeks after establishing the account. I've been going through hell to get my companies money back. I even submitted a complaint through the BBB. Mindbody keeps trying to offer a discount or a credit. And to believe I was so excited to do business with them is a disgrace. They have too many point of contact representatives, too many emails, too many steps, it's just not user friendly. Instead I've decided to go with Schedulicity, and it's the best decision for my company and employees. I will leave my review on every site possible.

Its a great software and the support is great. Unfortunately some important features are not available in my region and sometimes, requests for functionality upgrades / repairs take too long to be implemented, if ever.

As of late the worse customer service experience I have ever had from a company. Especially a company I am actually paying for services from. Having major issues since march 20 and still cannot connect with support... my system was not sharing memberships properly and not pulling from the clients it was sharing with. Because of that I had clients going over in sessions costing me a lot of money. When I spent hours of my time to look through everything I found research that did not support what I was being told from the mb team. When I called them out on it they stopped responding to me and still haven't responded... march 20th was when I sent my 1st email response back... that person still has not responded back to me.. I've sent several emails and still nothing. Finally last week I received a response from another tech. But I was actually dealing with someone higher...

There are other issues I have with the system that I can deal with, but the low customer service and support is not.... I now have major issues with my clients membership sign ups after each of their months and the support to fix it if you can is not there and I have no more time to waist on the phone with tech support people who don't know what they are doing... I get different answers every time I call or they don't know what to do or can't do anything...

it's not ok to lie to clients just to keep them on hold and paying. due to new regulations EU studios needed adaptations and modifications of invoicing procedures. we never received an honest "sorry, that won't happen". we have lost time, but luckily found a great fit for us and other studios. what a relief not to be in their game anymore.

I have been a loyal customer for over a year now and mine body's customer service is absolutely terrible. Numerous time I have waited 45+ minutes on the phone before hanging up. Their customer support team are shocking. I have been over changed alot. I have tired to call numerous times and send two email, with no reply. All they worry about is debiting your account then avoid any contact with the customer after that.

I love using Mindbody for my small massage therapy practice. I have no employees, so I don't have need for some of the great features they offer, but I know those features are fantastic for the businesses that do have employees.
I use Mindbody for online booking (my clients can conveniently book themselves), automated emails to welcome new clients, confirm appointments, and send happy birthday messages, and I use the Mindbody app to schedule, checkout clients after their treatments.

Their customer service is ALWAYS amazing; I have yet to have a bad experience when I have a question, concern, or issue to be addressed.

I highly recommend Mindbody for your business management software.

Pros

Seemingly odd transaction fees for the Merchant Account department. (No real clarity on what qualifies as a "non-qualified credit card" so an additional percentage is charged for those transactions.)

Advice to Others

To be fair, I haven't used any other booking software - unless you count a hand-written planner, but that's because I've been so happy with Mindbody.

Another bullshit price increase! Apparently emails were sent out months ago. Yeah right! I never received and email before the last $10/month price increase. Nor did I receive one before this $30/month price increase. I would have most certainly noticed an email with a subject line mentioning a price increase. I find it strangely convenient that there was no mention of the price increase on my next bill when I called to cancel and was told that I had to give a 30 day notice to cancel. And then the very next day a charge to my account from MINDBODY for not $95, but $125. WTF! Are you F(^$(*ing kidding me! This is the worst company ever!

The only time there was any helpful customer service was in getting everything set up, during the trial period. This disappeared after the trial period was up.

Cons

For providing a service, this company has to have the worst costumer service I've ever experienced. Every single email or website request triggers and auto-response that claims they're experiencing higher customer service volume than normal. And yet, this has never not been the case. We lost count of the hours we spent on hold on the phone actually trying to get a hold of someone. After accumulating customers on their platform, they try and lock you in, and wanted to charge us $600 to transfer our existing customers to another merchant account processing service. We ended up keeping the service only to not disrupt our current customers' experience. Terrible service. Highly recommend avoiding this company's services at all cost.
