Co-construct Software

Co-construct is robust web and mobile-based project, financial, and client management system for custom home builders and remodelers. It is the only single-entry estimating system that allows each user to enter a piece of information once, and have that data flow directly from the estimate, specifications, selections, bids, change orders, budgets, and to and from QuickBooks – with no double entry.

In addition to the fully integrated financial system, Co-construct streamlines scheduling, communication, client and subcontractor portals, files, photos, to-dos, time clock, job log, warranty, and more.

Co-construct provides builders unlimited, no-charge projects for use with prospects, estimating, and bidding. Each builder only pays for the number of projects currently under construction.

The Co-construct subscription includes a dedicated implementation coach, custom branding to match the a builders website, phone and online support, unlimited ongoing training, and options to attend an in-person, 2-day training sessions with other Co-construct users.

We've been with Co-construct for a couple of years and have recommended others to them. Their web-based access center is user-friendly, for both the contractor and the homeowner. It has been so helpful to keep everything related to a particular project in one place, not just for us, but for the homeowner as well.

For the most part I've had good experiences with the software. I love the tutorials and the customer service is fantastic!

Pros

I love how the system can be integrated to benefit all parts of our company.

Cons

I wish there were some more upload capabilities. I would like to be able to upload a budget and have the software automatically add each selection item for the uploaded line items.

Co-Construct is like an all-knowing assistant that you should hire on the spot. It has the ability to let you get your life back and enjoy your business and owning your business instead of letting your business own you.

Co-Construct solves the problems you hear from your Clients, Partners, Employees, and the voices in your head at 3am.

Pros

The ability of the software is obvious. The key "pros" to me was learning the commitment of the employees behind the scenes. They genuinely believe in the product and are just as enthusiastic about new development, customer support, and being a great business partner, as I am.

Cons

The "cons" to me are shapeable into "pros". This software is not simple to use ...at the beginning. It is difficult at first to understand why all the upfront work in developing your Client templates is necessary. However, a commitment to a training class opened the doors and made sense of the importance of the upfront investment of time and thought. It develops the knowledge that unleashes the power of the product.

Advice to Others

To say this software is robust is an understatement. For that reason, this is not an out-of-the-box solution. Don't take it lightly. I was overwhelmed at first and then learned that a 2-day Co-Construct Camp was necessary to break down the barrier for success. Now the product makes sense and is being developed into a true business partner. My advice, be seriously committed about the investment.

Our company builds roughly 40 or so custom and semi-custom homes a year. Although most of our staff is never in the same room at the same time, this software keeps us all on the same page. We love how you can customize the program exactly to how our company build a house. It is very simple to use.

Pros

I love that you never hit a dead end. You can always find a way to make the software fit your company and the way you do business.

Cons

It did take a while to set up, but I think that was mainly by our choice. There are easy to use templates, but we invested the extra time to set the software up around our company.

Advice to Others

I seriously don't remember how we did business prior to getting this product. It was an endless mess of old email chains that some people weren't copied on. I can't imagine running a building company without this.

As a new builder, I was seriously struggling with selections. This is a much better way for my clients to make their selections, and also for me to record their decisions in a central location. Now everyone participates, and everyone has access to the same information. Great concepts!

Pros

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I appreciate the scheduling part of the software. I didn't think I needed much help in that area, but it has stepped up my game on so many ways.

Cons

Taking the time to set up the selections template can be daunting for a new builder. I did not have any pre-written specifications or options. Nevertheless, it is worth the work, and once again, makes me better as a builder.

Advice to Others

As long as you aren't my competitor, you need this.

I must admit that I was sceptical at first and my transition towards this was rather slow but once I took the time to really learn it; It suddenly made a whole lot of sense. Workday/loads are easier to manage and it seems like I have a 10/10 vision on my operation/Staff/Customers service. It's a great tool but also acts like a coach for me. Reminds me of my dues and schedule. Keeps us on track and Keeps my customers informed at all time.

Pros

Helps to establishes discipline within the team members.
Great selling feature.
Awesome scheduling tool. 99.9999999% of our jobs are completed on time & within budget.

Cons

It took us some getting used to but we did it in a fair amount of time. We were set and ready to go after Co-Camp.

Advice to Others

Us contractors; we've been doing things the old way for far too long. I learned the business from my father just like many of you but times have changed; so should we...The life of a contractor doesn't have to be complicated anymore... having the right tools is a must nowaday. I say try it to appreciate it!

I started using Co-construct strictly for the scheduling, it makes my life so much easier and more efficient. It's awesome that they have a few premade templates for you to use. You can take these templates and use them as examples or you can modify them and make them your own. I went from managing 1-2 jobs to about seven large projects, so this is why we started the search for a software program. Best move I had made.

Secondly, I went to the Co Camp program (I highly recommend), this is a two day course. It's been a big help on understanding there product and using it to it max capacity. It was great to meet my reband his team they really care about providing good service and making there product better.

Advice to Others

Please keep running your construction projects in the stone age, this will give me the upper hand on getting your clients. haha

Co-Construct was a lifesaver in managing an extensive home renovation. There were over 300 changes to the original design drawings. We could not have managed controlling the flow, the changes and the budget without the Co-Construct program. Their support team was outstanding in their advice, helpful tips, and their quick follow up ... all done with great patience and a gentle guiding hand!
We would highly recommend Co-Construct.

Co-Construct is my third try at a software program to help me manage my business, and I'm fairly certain I have found the one that meets my top two needs. 1) schedule that is easy to build, and interfaces well with my subcontractors, and customers. 2) pricing that is flexible to increase, and decrease of projects.

Pros

There are many pros to Co-Construct, but my favorite is having access to all of my jobs, and the information for each job, no matter where I am.

Cons

A little complicated and very time consuming to input information in the beginning (building templates).

Advice to Others

It can be daunting at first, but well worth it!

Co-Construct has increased our productivity, reduced errors, and improved client transparency tenfold. We're spending less time cleaning up messes from past jobs and more time focusing on creating estimates for future clients. Co-Construct might not be as "flashy" as some of the similar products, but Co-Constructs functionality is off the charts.

Pros

Tech support is amazing. Once you get the hang of the system it is very intuitive.

Cons

There are a few features that are lacking, but overall it's a great value.

Advice to Others

Definitely go to Co-Camp!! The immersion into the software and one on one support can't be beat! Our success with Co-Construct can be directly linked to Co-Camp.

When I started in the remodeling industry a couple of years ago I really didn't know what I was getting into. I was quickly overwhelmed with the amount of minutiae to keep track of and the relationships these details have on each other. Not only did it make my life crazy it was hurting our bottom line, affecting client relationships, and staff effectiveness, especially people in the field. Today I get more done in less time and everyone who is using the software loves it. We are still learning features and functionality - implementation is a long-term commitment. But for me the impact was immediate and I learn something new every day.

Pros

Scheduling is a breeze! The functionality makes it easy to update and notify trades. As selections get refined this too makes communication with clients much cleaner and timely. Plus everyone that needs to be is kept in the loop.
Also, you don't have to worry about making a mistake - these are really easy to fix and the Co-construct support staff are exceptional and fast.

Cons

Co-construct will require rethinking the way you do things. Old habits can be hard to let go but for those things you regard as non-negotiable Co-construct support staff will help you find a way to adapt yourself and/or the software to meet a variety of needs.
Greater flexibility with financial software integration would be helpful.

Advice to Others

Careful planning on building selection templates is a must. You cannot spend too much time with this. It is also really important, if you want selections to be the best time-saving tool in the program, that you update your selection templates as you make modifications in specific items in projects. Also, a good plan for numbering selection items is necessary to keeping items in a logical sequence and grouping in categories that make sense.

My husband and I implemented this homebuilding project management software in February 2016 and immediately began seeing streamlined communication with our suppliers and clients. We were able to build a custom 2800 sf home for a family who only made 3 visits over the 5 month period. Weekly photos were uploaded for progress on their home and messages with suppliers and the homeowner were all in one location. We even provided their realtor access so that she could be informed of the status and tasks that were taking place each week. Our ability to load all project information in a single repository that can be shared with appropriate craftsmen is crucial and saves countless hours in coping, faxing and getting plans to everyone. We load the contract, plans, specification and then selection sheets that are visible as needed with details on every phase of the building process. Tracking change orders and providing a daily balance of outstanding amounts is also helpful for accurately tracking costs. I love being able to assign additional "to-do"s as requests are made and then managing the punch list through warranty items for the following year.

We use the prospect projects for every spec home that we build and can easily track costs to budgets for our construction loans on a weekly basis.

We could not manage our business and grow like we have this year without this valuable software tool.

Pros

I love the structure and intuitiveness of the product. Most clients are able to work their way through the application with minimal instruction.

Cons

I would like a little more flexibility in templates and on the cost models offered.

Advice to Others

If you are going to be a homebuilder and have more than 1 project at a time there is no way you can manage your business without this tool. We do not email anyone anymore but track everything through messages and tasks
