CoConstruct is robust web and mobile-based project, financial, and client management system for custom home builders and remodelers. It is the only single-entry estimating system that allows each user to enter a piece of information once, and have that data flow directly from the estimate, specifications, selections, bids, change orders, budgets, and to and from QuickBooks – with no double entry.

In addition to the fully integrated financial system, CoConstruct streamlines scheduling, communication, client and subcontractor portals, files, photos, to-dos, time clock, job log, warranty, and more.

CoConstruct provides builders unlimited, no-charge projects for use with prospects, estimating, and bidding. Each builder only pays for the number of projects currently under construction.

The CoConstruct subscription includes a dedicated implementation coach, custom branding to match the a builders website, phone and online support, unlimited ongoing training, and options to attend an in-person, 2-day training sessions with other CoConstruct users.

I've used other software, but they didn't have the support that co-construct has. They also send you tips and great emails with valuable information to help setup and get going. Easy for the field team to use to track projects and other project details. Great app and website for client collaboration also.

Pros

The easy of collaboration between trade partners, employees and clients.

Cons

The time sheets can be modified by employees. So we use another software for time tracking.

Advice to Others

Make sure to be ready to invest some time into learning and setting it up. Its worth it.

Co-Construct is a great product. It's probably the easiest to use fully featured construction software out there. I get a lot out of it. It still has a few weak spots, but they are constantly releasing new updates that truly make it better, and their customer service is literally the BEST I have ever received. I really can't speak highly enough of their support. Never seen anything like it in a tech company.

Takes a lot of setup time (not sure there's any way around this, though, to be fair)
Wish it had materials take-off capabilities
A few weak spots in the software implementation, but not deal breakers

Advice to Others

Try it out, as well as the competition. I tried out all three major products in this segment, and it became clear really quickly that Co-Construct was the best. I've been using it for two years and have not been disappointed I chose it.

One of my favorites parts of Co-Construct, and there are many, is the Open Work Item Summary that arrives in my inbox every morning. It is a snapshot of everything that is on the board for the day and a reminder of things over due or things that are coming up. It helps sharpen our focus on the tasks at hand while keeping an eye on the overall scheduled workload.

It's a powerful software so it takes a little while to understand the various possibilities.

Advice to Others

Go all in; it will be an exercise in frustration to only partially implement it. It's front end heavy, and you'll have to spend time coaching your employees and sub-trades alike, but it is absolutely worth it!

I think we've been able to integrate the program in a relatively short period of time with the combination of co-camp and the help from the co-construct team. We've already seen a significant improvement in communication among the different parties involved in our projects, and are very much looking forward to the benefits of a more streamlined process as we prepare for what we expect to be a very busy year ahead.

Advice to Others

Jump in with both feet. Make a commitment, go to co-camp, and get set up as quickly as possible. Having everything in one place is one of the best features of the program; the more quickly you can get set up, the more benefit you will receive.

We have been using co-construct for over 5 years and it has been Incredible Journey right from the start. Co-construct is always changing and always improving. It has been more than once that we have said "wouldn't it be nice if Co-construct would do this" and it hasn't been long and Donny has announced the new update and they are implementing exactly what we had wished for. It is an excellent tool to help manage your projects right from the first sales call, tracking your budget, tracking the expenses for the customers, all the way through to your last warranty items.

Pros

The big thing for us is that it has helped us be transparent and the customer knows where they're at even before they commit to build. What we really like about it is that it has been built from a client's perspective instead of being built primarily for what the builder needs. It is catering to the client and it's easy for them to use and very easy for them to understand where they're at and what they are getting. Then on top of that the bonus is it is a tremendous tool for the builder to manage things like:
-Budgets
-selections
-upgrades
-Employee time clock
-Warranty Items

Cons

The one thing that would be an advantage for us would be if the product would interact with sage 50 as not as we don't use QuickBooks. Other than I have no complaints, it performs up to our expectations and we look forward to seeing new things being rolled out by co-construct in the future.

Advice to Others

My advice to others would be if you've got any hesitation on going with the product just stop and think, Have you had any challenge in the past year with managing you are prospects or things like change orders, selections? If so this is the product for you!! Yes, it will take some time to set up, but unlike lots of products Co-construct has done lots of the work already for you and they have a fantastic support team that does a phenomenal job of helping with any questions or problems you may have in setup or in day to day use. Set your Co-construct up properly and it will save you much time into the future and you'll come out looking like a pro to your customers. Yes, our team is a daily user of Co-construct and is speaking from experience.

Ben -- Thanks for the note. We did want to let you know that there are several ways to create change orders in the system. If you have all of your selections in the system, you can, with a couple of clicks, turn those decisions into change orders. If it's a non-selections item, you can simply create a new document, type in the change, put in the amount, and click who needs to approve it. So, whichever route you go, Co-construct has a secure way to quickly create COs and get digital signature signoffs on them. Regarding QuickBooks, we do support a subset of QuickBooks Desktop features for users on Canadian Edition. We are looking at updating that to include the full feature set in the not-too-distant future.

Co-construct is intuitive and has been built with the user in mind. There are many components, but they are incorporated in such a way as to feed into each other and can be easily learned. It is a fine balance between robustness and ease of use and co-construct does a great job of making that balance.

We've been with Co-construct for a couple of years and have recommended others to them. Their web-based access center is user-friendly, for both the contractor and the homeowner. For the most part I've had good experiences with the software. I love the tutorials and the customer service is fantastic!

The ability of the software is obvious. The key "pros" to me was learning the commitment of the employees behind the scenes. They genuinely believe in the product and are just as enthusiastic about new development, customer support, and being a great business partner, as I am.

Cons

The "cons" to me are shapeable into "pros". This software is not simple to use ...at the beginning. It is difficult at first to understand why all the upfront work in developing your Client templates is necessary. However, a commitment to a training class opened the doors and made sense of the importance of the upfront investment of time and thought. It develops the knowledge that unleashes the power of the product.

Advice to Others

To say this software is robust is an understatement. For that reason, this is not an out-of-the-box solution. Don't take it lightly. I was overwhelmed at first and then learned that a 2-day Co-Construct Camp was necessary to break down the barrier for success. Now the product makes sense and is being developed into a true business partner. My advice, be seriously committed about the investment.

We really love the control that this product give us to communicate with our customers. Customers like being able to not run everywhere to do selections and have ready information about where the project stands both in terms of scheduling and monetary tracking.

Our company builds roughly 40 or so custom and semi-custom homes a year. Although most of our staff is never in the same room at the same time, this software keeps us all on the same page. We love how you can customize the program exactly to how our company build a house. It is very simple to use.

Pros

I love that you never hit a dead end. You can always find a way to make the software fit your company and the way you do business.

Cons

It did take a while to set up, but I think that was mainly by our choice. There are easy to use templates, but we invested the extra time to set the software up around our company.

Advice to Others

I seriously don't remember how we did business prior to getting this product. It was an endless mess of old email chains that some people weren't copied on. I can't imagine running a building company without this.

As a new builder, I was seriously struggling with selections. This is a much better way for my clients to make their selections, and also for me to record their decisions in a central location. Now everyone participates, and everyone has access to the same information. Great concepts!

Pros

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I appreciate the scheduling part of the software. I didn't think I needed much help in that area, but it has stepped up my game on so many ways.

Cons

Taking the time to set up the selections template can be daunting for a new builder. I did not have any pre-written specifications or options. Nevertheless, it is worth the work, and once again, makes me better as a builder.

Advice to Others

As long as you aren't my competitor, you need this.

I must admit that I was sceptical at first and my transition towards this was rather slow but once I took the time to really learn it; It suddenly made a whole lot of sense. Workday/loads are easier to manage and it seems like I have a 10/10 vision on my operation/Staff/Customers service. It's a great tool but also acts like a coach for me. Reminds me of my dues and schedule. Keeps us on track and Keeps my customers informed at all time.

Us contractors; we've been doing things the old way for far too long. I learned the business from my father just like many of you but times have changed; so should we...The life of a contractor doesn't have to be complicated anymore... having the right tools is a must nowaday.
