ComputerEase Construction Software

ComputerEase was founded in 1983. Since then, the vendor has built a large customer base of over 6,000 contractors. It offers a fully integrated construction management suite with accounting, project management and service management applications.

ComputerEase is fully featured with plenty of construction-specific accounting and project management features. For example, it offers job costing, materials management, equipment tracking and prevailing wage reports in their accounting system.

The project management application has punch list, LEED tracking, document control and equipment and resource management capabilities.

ComputerEase recently released a mobile system for tablet devices called FieldEase. This allows contractors to automate many field processes that previously had to be tracked using pen and paper.

ComputerEase can be used by nearly any type of contractor from, earthwork to mechanical to plumbing. It is suitable for midsized companies doing between $1 and $100 million in annual revenue.

So far the software seems to do the job. Trainer is good, need more training time and it should be included

Pros

Like that it is integrated with field service

Cons

Do not include enough training time and you have to pay for additional time, for the price it should be included, a least a significant portion

Advice to Others

Get more training time and tree to negotiate a smaller fee

This product is being used by 2 companies we acquired. It is great at linking equipment and labor into job costs using simple tools like a dispatch board to assign resources.
Multiple labor rates can be sued for wage rated projects or negotiated T&M rate schedules .
Job costing can track each project for profitability.
The programming team is very responsive to request for customization especially reporting and user interfaces.

Pros

Job costing
Workflows
integrated imaging storage for work acceptance forms, inventory receivers, Change orders

Cons

Reporting can be slow as history and users are added

Pros

Good fit for smaller to midsized construction company. Many upgraded features for the price.

I have been in the construction field for over 20 years and this is by far the best software I have used.

Pros

Ease! Also the reporting ability is so robust!
My WIP takes me 2 hours at the most! (8mil in revenue.)

Cons

I don't believe there is any!

Advice to Others

Talk to another same liked company...
Take your time!
Don't buy any other. :-)

My ComputerEase is hosted in the Cloud by CSS (Common Sense Solutions). They are the distributor / reseller and trainers. The transition from Sage50 to ComputerEase was so easy with their instructions. Changes with software or hardware is NEVER easy and causes so much stress for me. They trained me and walked me through every step. The trainer KNOWS accounting, job costing and she knows the software. Most software trainers only know the software!!

The only thing I'm not real thrilled with is the Cloud system. I get knocked off with a lost connection at least twice a day. When I am in the middle of something, it is not fun. When I have had to call support they open a ticket right away, but sometimes there is not a fix or solution for 24 hours.

Recommendations

Watch the demo. Ask questions. Be informed. The best thing I did was talk to a couple of local companies that have used ComputerEase for 10-20 years. Come to find out, one of our best customers uses ComputerEase and that is all they have ever used. Stable for sure.

ComputerEase had the unique blend of functionality at a great price. We are a growing construction company who quickly outgrew QuickBooks so we needed to move to a software made for construction. We researched a number of packages but ultimately selected ComputerEase for their integration with estimating and fully integrated modules. We were also very pleased with the price and ease of implementation. The implementation specialist was very helpful and we implemented on our schedule and at the agreed budget.

Likes Least

I wish it was browser based, we deploy with a terminal server.

Recommendations

Do your homework and make sure the product functions like your business processes since flexibility is not as robust as the more expensive options, the positive is the ease of implementation.

My latest experiences with Computerease and my sales person has been very frustrating as we purchase service and additional modules with training and technical help. When we call for this help or email,I get billed.

Likes Least

Support from the vendor. I have tried to figure out the new modules that we spent a lot of money to help us and have not been successful. This if very frustrating.

Recommendations

Make sure you get clear and precise information as to not think you are buying one module and it does not do what you think.

ComputerEase is distributed and served by Target Systems in our region. Our rep was with us from implementation, and throughout our use. She knew the software inside and out and was always easy to contact and very helpful. The software itself was intuitive, easy to use, and had all the features we needed as a medium-sized insulation company. It was very useful with our union, even with several locals. I was pleasantly surprised at how much we liked using ComputerEase, as it was not at all expensive. I definitely recommend this for a small to medium-sized construction company.

I can't think of anything I didn't like about this product and vendor.

Recommendations

Search for software that fits your business size, then sort by price and reviews from peers. Then you can view demos and decide which software would be best for your needs.

It is confusing to learn and train new users on and the company is virtually impossible to get in touch with. When you do get in touch with someone, they take your info and say someone will call you back but no one ever does.

Really do your research. Not just into the system but also into the company developing it. Make sure you know what is included in the base module and what you will need to pay more for

Does not do multi-currency and is not an ideal solution for consolidations. The product also does not provide user designed reports without a consultant producing them. Reporting is not flexible.

It's a great solution for the right company but it isn't easy to customize without significant consulting help.

ComputerEase is easy to use and very intuitive. Offers numerous management, budgeting, costing tools & reports for tracking your production process from start to finish. Control Centers for Jobs and the other modules offer great charting and one stop viewing of all facets of a project.

Likes Least

Has all the essentials for accounting side, payroll, financial reporting etc. Would like more detailed payroll report options for historical purposes. But overall it does a great job.

Recommendations

Really determine what your primary focus needs to be; project management, sales tracking or accounting and keep that in mind when evaluating each module of ComputerEase. It is a great all round product. However, only you know what area you want your focus to be on or where you need more information than your current product provides.

1. Integration of accounting, purchasing and project management; 2. Ability to promote a "paperless" office; 3. Ability to merge into Microsoft Office products; 4. very responsive to user recommendations

Likes Least

Seems skewed towards subcontractors or specialty contractors and service providers and we are a general contractor. The project management module could be better.

Recommendations

Remember that there is rarely a software that is a perfect fit. Make a list of the requirements you're looking for and prioritize them; if the software has most of the high priority items, it may be the right one.
