Jonas Software has been present in construction and service management since 1990 and is the choice of more than 1,000 contractors in various construction trades. Since 2007, Jonas has won six prestigious award for its paperless service management applications. In 2010 the company won a “Top Product” award for their service management program. The software manages the business activities of firms in a variety of construction trades but handles the mechanical/HVAC, electrical and plumbing trades especially well. The software also contains extensive functionality to handle the general contracting trade.

Companies that have annual revenues between $1 million to $100 million are a good fit for this solution. The software contains a whole suite of applications that companies can use to manage their business. Applications for bid management, project management, service management, and customer management integrate with accounting to create a single solution. In total, the software contains more than 40 modules.

Jonas software offers mobile integration from PDAs, tablets and laptops and includes e-Portals (eTimesheets, eService, eRouting) for customer information to be input.  Construction firms can use these online portals to enter employee hours, submit work order requests or track the location of their service trucks. All of these application sync up with the system. We like that Jonas Software because they go out of their way to offer 24/7 support.

We are a formwork subcontractor, and were looking for an integrative system to gather data from all aspects of our construction process. At the time we were shopping around, I had no idea how integrative software systems work. It was a bit of a shock to realize how dynamic they can be, and they definitely require a lot of study and application to get up and running. If your organization has someone who is familiar with integrative systems, they can be an excellent resource to utilize when picking a system. There really are a lot of factors to consider, and someone with integrative software system experience will have a better idea of what to look for.

We currently are two years into the process, and only now are we getting to use the system in a practical manner. We bought Jonas two years ago and really liked some of the features they have. The eTimesheets feature is very cool, and the document management system is very effective. With all of these features available to us, it is up to us to work with the system to get optimum performance, not the other way around. I am happy with how Jonas has worked for us, and for the price range, we feel it is a very good product.

Our company services the commercial and industrial fuel service industry. Our major customer is Shell, and we target other customers such as the local municipal governments and transit authorities. We are also involved in the construction of fuel dispensing systems, vehicle wash systems and hoists.

We implemented Jonas about two and a half years ago, and have been very satisfied with its performance. We were using another system at the time, but the functionality of our previous system did not suit our needs for the construction or service side of our business. Jonas offered better functionality through the work order module to better handle our large volume of service calls. It also allowed us to better manage our costs in our construction department with better reporting tools.

The implementation went well with some minor hiccups that were resolved quickly by the implementation team. I needed about 4-5 months to get up to speed with the software, from start to the day we began using Jonas exclusively. The training experience was very good, with the trainers arriving in our office for face-to-face training time.

The #1 reason that I would recommend Jonas to other users is for its support staff. Jonas's technical support has been exceptional. They are quick to respond - when I was a new user and had to call them almost every day, I felt I was still a valued customer and not someone annoying them all the time.

We are proud to be a member of the Jonas family. We are now entering our seventh year with this solution, and I'm happy to say we appreciate the support and professionalism we receive from Jonas Software representatives. They have a very quick response time on any queries and/or concerns that users may have, and will go the distance to ensure that we understand all aspects and functions of the software system. Time is no concern for them - they are patient and respectable.

Jonas is very user-friendly, from the software system itself to the representatives who cater to your every need. Their software is up-to-date with the business challenges we face every day. Jonas Software offers the security, reliability, and ensured accuracy that you want for your data.

Jonas Software's strengths include a low learning curve and a system that's easy to use. Reports are easy to write, and allow management team members to have at their fingertips the tools they need to make decisions. Fully integrated capability gives the entire team up-to-date information at any time it's needed.

The system's weaknesses include slow run time for reports, and no job cost scheduling. Furthermore, we have to contact customer service several times before we receive help with our issues.

Ferguson-Veresh, Inc. is a mechanical contractor that does commercial & residential service and installation and has been using Jonas software since 2002. We purchased it because it has the Service Dispatch, Job Cost & General Ledger all integrated within one soolution. We used Great Plains before and the Job Costing for them is a different software called WennSoft which was problematic at times.

There have been numerous changes over the nine years we have used Jonas. I believe it gets better each year. I love that Jonas has set up a place on their website for users to give them ideas for changes or improvements to the software. Jonas is user-friendly and I particularly like that I can give each user access only to the modules they will be using. I also like the fact that I can log a service call with Jonas and attach the screen shots & reports of the problems I am having. This allows them to do some research before actually calling me.

I also use Jonas for a couple of companies that have rent houses and oil & gas wells. The job costing software has allowed me to track cost and income by house and by well. I would recommend Jonas software to anyone.

We have used Jonas for over 1 1/2 years. However, we have recently changed to another software company. The reason we went to Jonas was because our previous system was DOS based and did not have a strong service package. We have a fast growing service department which has increased from approximately 15 techs to over 30 techs in the last 5 years.

After reviewing multiple companies we felt Jonas was the best selection for service. However, there was a problem with Jonas on the contracting side. We could not "trust" our numbers. The program would give us different amounts for the same project. It really had problems in retention amounts that differed from 10% retention.

I think that some of the problem was our input. It was not easy and for whatever reason we decided (for Jonas) that we should have decentralized inputting of information. Therefore we had project managers inputting information. In the past that was always a function of support staff.

Another negative is that they are a Canadian company and the way they perform some of their business practices are different than what we perform. The function and terminology is different. The people are extremely helpful, however.

The positives about Jonas is that our service liked the service options available. If you have a service company that does not have a large contracting base I think they would be OK. There is a lot of information in Jonas that can be used to analyze your company. There are also some very good items like the hand held devices and customer information feed back loops, customer scheduling and a very good dispatch board.

Thank you for the review. We appreciate the acknowledgment of the decision to decentralize the inputting of data. We found that we did have some minor issues but it was the incorrect inputting of data that created the imbalance. We have reviewed this and according to other clients using the same modules, the Jonas job cost retention functionality balances and is sound, the data is trustworthy. Additionally, in regards to Jonas Software being a Canadian Company, we are actually worldwide and a majority of our clients are located in the US. Although our head office is located in Toronto, we are experienced in successfully dealing with our U.S. clients for over 20 years.
