Maxwell Systems ProContractorMX - Construction is part of the ProContractor MX line, which is a functionally all-in-one system that is built to handle needs of construction companies of nearly any size. The solution’s comprehensive feature set allows you to start with most critical applications you want – whether only estimating or only accounting and project management – and grow into the full breadth of offerings and valuable modules as your business needs them. Although the program is known for its accounting functionality the system also supports a firm’s project management and estimating needs.

The accounting application includes functionality standard to basic applications such as payroll, general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. Additional construction-specific functionality is offered in the application to include things like equipment tracking, multi-company support, and item billing. With a complete solution that includes project management and estimating applications, firms can get a better handle on document control and bidding while keeping their financial data in sync with the business.

The software is built to handle nearly any kind of construction firm that does not operate a service branch of their business. The system can support a varied number of trades from general contractor, heavy, highway, concrete, utility contractors and many more.

Like the other offerings in the ProContractor MX family, the ProContractor MX solution is built on the Microsoft .NET platform and works off of Microsoft’s SQL Server.

After all of the costs, they don't have anyone who can help us run one project in the demo company. We are particular about our job costing, and Sage is considerably easier to use.

Functionality

The estimating module that they bought from Quest is awesome. The rest of it is illogical and pointless for our purposes.

I'm sure the quality is there if someone could walk just one job through in the demo for us. We've had hours and hours of department training with videos and webinars.

Customer Support

All the support people are very nice, but nice doesn't cut it. Estimator trainers don't know the PM module; PM trainers don't know the estimating module. Yet both modules need to interface. I have had the estimating software for 15 years and built databases, yet I have left every training session with them having to find an answer 'about that'.

They bought a great concrete estimating software from Quest Solutions, and the Estimating Module is excellent.

They are great at packaging and presenting simple one-stop software for estimating, project management, HR, AP, AR, etc. The cost of the software, maintenance, and training is very expensive. They change every typical construction terminology they can to make it 'special'. A simple attachment is now a "binder item," and the estimating database is now the "catalog."

Recommendations

They are slick at making it look so easy, but what they are really selling is training, support, and maintenance. We track over 50 cost codes through the WBS structures and export to Excel and Sage.

In March of 2013 I wrote a review on the software. I wanted to update my current status on our Maxwell program fiasco. To date, we continue to have issues - they chopped one of my issues as to needing a software update. In the update process, Maxwell said there was an issue and we needed to pay our invoice immediately to complete the upgrade - fair enough, we paid on the spot. The next day, Maxwell came in remotely to update our software, claimed they needed to evaluate our current database, then says they do not recommend an update at this time. Our issue remains unsolved. I stand by my previous review - I do not recommend this software for a general contractor, possibly a great software for a smaller company completing single scopes of work - but not for a general contractor.

**UPDATE**

To date we have spent countless hours trying to get Maxwell working properly. We have had the software over a year and still speak with tech support at least weekly because of system "bugs" (their words - not mine). I would not recommend this for another General Contractor. Go with the old faithfuls. We are very unhappy.

I am a small to medium excavation contractor from Tennessee who purchased Maxwell's Quest MX software in 2009. Finally, after a couple of very slow years we felt the need to reacquaint ourselves with the system again after 3 years. However, I could not log on due to an error with my password and username. I called customer support to reset my password and I was shocked and disappointed they would not help me reset my password without being charged for a one time use of their technical service or pay for an annual subscription for assistance. I was told by an account manager there was nothing that could be done, but she would try to run it up the chain of command to see if they could make an exception. It would be a few days before I would hear back from her.

I would have completely understood if I were asking for assistance on the software or getting help with a take off or something like. I would think Maxwell would want me to actually use the software so I can accurately assess it's performance and application to my business.

Our company is a concrete and sitework contractor. We have been using the Quest system for many years. We find this software to be similiar in nature, but with faster and more precise and accurate results, all while making our take-offs paperless. We had a support tech come to our office for training, which was very helpful in making the transition. We are currently running version 2.8.6

This Solution allows us to estimate projects with more ease and efficiency, and also helps to track our projects more effectively. Also, we are able to speed up our process, which in turn, allows us to bid more work. CTS is a low voltage special systems contractor serving Arizona, Utah and New Mexico with 4 divisions (office locations). We are a rapidly growing company and needed a more robust accoutning system that provided the functionality and expansion that would allow for our growth. We also needed more integration between accounting, purchasing and estimating. Prior to converting to Maxwell ProContractor we were utilizing Quickbooks Enterprise Contractor Edition. This software had its limits which we had out grown over the years. We currently have over 100 employees. We recently went to ProContractor 2.8 a few months ago and have recenlty upgraded to 2.9. The implementation went very smooth which was assited by the grreat folks at Maxwell. We completed the implementation in 10 weeks going live on July 1st. The over all funcionality of the system is great. We have now integrated our estimating and purchasing into the accounting system saving valuable time. THe customer support at Maxwell is top notch. They have been very responsive to our concerns and needs. I would highly recommend this system to anyone looking for the integration the way we were.

We are a Structural Concrete Contracting firm, performing approximately 90% public work and approximately 10% private work. In order for out company to survive in this extremely competitive business environment, and while concurrently providing competitive bids, it is absolutely essential to prepare and provide our organization with the most accurate material and labor cost breakdown possible. Although Excel was a great resource for calculating take-off information and summarizing it, there was always a margin for human error, e.g. missing a group of sub-totaled cells, having to transfer take-off date to Excel spreadsheets, etc. Not only that, but once the project was awarded there was the managing of RFI's, Change Orders, etc.; much too time consuming when you could spend that time being productive and growing your business, not to mention the possibility of losing track of unprocessed Change Orders, etc.

Having had previous experience with on-screen digital take-offs and estimates, our company was up and running in less than a week. Our Maxwell salesperson was instrumental in helping us navigate through the entire process of implementing their software. From the selection of available products to completing our first bid estimate, Maxwell was there to help us along the way. In our estimation - and with the exact same staff prior to purchasing Maxwell - we are on our way to at least 20/25% more production with more accurate results.

Before purchasing the "Estimator" software many years ago, i did extensive research on what was available at the time, tried everything available and found this to be the best for the price. Over the years of using it i have reviewed many new programs and still have found nothing better.

Being in the construction/development business we are often required to estimate the cost of a building from preliminary plans, usually nothing more than a floor plan and elevation. The estimator software make is possible for us to produce viable estimates for preliminary budgeting long before the plans are at a stage where hard-bids can be procured.

The customer support from the sales rep to the technical support has been a pleasure to deal with. Any issues were quickly and easily resolved.

We are a 75+ employee company founded in 1958. We are the premiere site work and utilities contractor in Eastern, NC.

We began searching for a new software solution after using 7 or more disparate solutions for more than 10 years. As the economy took a downturn we were forced to find newer and better ways to track our projects costs, profitability, along with keeping up with infinitely more paperwork four our vendors and customers. ProContractorMX was the only all in one solution we could find. Field-office communication has always been a problem in the construction industry. With the Mobile Connect function, our field supervisors are able to see up to date, real time information. The newest plans are put in a binder and available, no more running to the printers every time a customer or engineer comes out with a revision. Our spec books are now available anywhere in the field, so there are no more questions about pay items, scopes of work, or our duties. We are currently running PCMX's 2.9 Beta, and the features are great. Maxwell Systems has been very responsive to our inputs about ways to make their product even more functional for us.

Our implementation was as smooth as could be expected. Very few of our office staff had any 'formal' software experience with actual accounting and project management software, but Maxwell System's representatives worked with us to provide a structure to our business we had never seen before.We like to joke in the office that with Maxwell System's PCMX we 'went from the Flintstones to the Jetsons over night!' All kidding aside though, we have had a great experience with our implementation, and the follow up questions we have had as we become progressively more advanced users with this software.

We have benefited greatly from the system, a recent ROI calculation by Maxwell's in-house staff generated numbers we never expected to see. We have recently lost 2 members of our office team to other companies, but with the efficiencies gained within PCMX, we haven't had to replace them! A common example we like to offer folks who ask is this- before PCMX it took a total of 40 man hours to input and process payroll for 75 employees, afterwards we are down to 6 hours! We literally gained 4 working days a week from our employees!

Be prepared for a massive investment of your time and energy, but the rewards are well worth the hard work!

ProContractor is an absolutely amazing software! Our office was crammed with paper work generated from getting bids out, not to mention 3 different positions (Sales Man, Estimator, Project Coordinator). After moving to ProContractor now the sales man alone can get the bids out in minutes. Our bid time turn around went from 4-6 days to 3 hours. And that's just the estimating. Our production office is now on top of the game! The project manager has turn cluster mess into a fine tuned machine! We also use the accounting as well, and this is where ProContractor has really paid off. Our CPA was charging us thousands and thousands to organize our financial information. Now that we are using ProContractor there just isn't that much work for him to do. Thank you Maxwell, for saving my company 300 dollars an hour! (Not to mention making my office paperless and about a 700% more efficient!)

I would recommend any contractor use this software.

We are a 39 year old concrete and masonry company that has done many different types of projects ranging Gas station to Commercial buildings. In 98 we purchased the Quest system, but like many other contractors we never fully used the product.

Last fall we hired a Consultant, who told us we need to do more work,"DUH", so we sat down and brain stormed on how to increase our production with less people. That's when we figured out if our estimating system did more and was tide in with or account system we would be able to bid more, witch will increase your likely hood of success and than tie it together with your account system plus add in some very easy to understand graphs. You should be able to handle more production with less office staff.

So I spoke with Mrs Hopper and she told me about all the wonderful things the there products could due, so we bought the Pro Contractor System. Implementing it was a bit difficult due to the fact that the program is server based and well really big, our IT guy had a few stress filled hours but nothing that we couldn't get through.

Right now we are still in the process of implementing the system to how we bid, and how are employees work, it is kind of funny that you need to re-think your estimating and how you come up with your numbers. The system is very easy to learn I am teaching one of our guys right know and he has never worked on a computer estimating system, and he loves it.

My personal belief about the system is that it will help you stay on top of your projects for more easier than you can imagine possible. Its all their talking to it self from estimates to project management to bill pay to job cost accounting. It can be done in minutes as compared to weeks.

Less office = less over head = more profits

Nouveau Construction & Technology Services is both a General Contractor and two Specialty Subcontractors(Data Cabling & Electrical). As if that were not enough we had to further complicate things in the fact that our GC side is primarily Job Order Contracting for Universities, States, Counties, Cities and Independent School Districts which requires us to use RS Means for all estimating, where as we are not tied to RS Means for all of our Data and Electrical jobs. This uniqueness brought me quite a challenge when it came to searching for a new software. I was charged to find a software that would take us from the estimating side of things (both RS Means & non RS Means) through the entirety of the job, to include Job Costing, AP, AR, PR GL and Financial Reporting.

ProContractorMX meets all our requirements in a software. While we are still in the process of training and implementation we are quite pleased so far. We are looking forward to having one software instead of 3+ softwares.

To date all Maxwell personnel have been extremely helpful. Laura Kaye made sure she had a good understanding of our company and our needs and was therefore able to show us how PCMX can meet those needs. In fact we even did and extra impromptu hands on demo with our estimating guys when she was on site for our demo. Linda Koath is extremely knowledgeable and is helping us through the process of getting our system set up correctly and teaching how to use it. JoAnn Solari I have only spoken to on the phone and while we haven't yet begun the Estimating and Project Management training I expect her to be as proficient and helpful as Laura and Linda are.

While we are not yet live and using the software daily, I have be very pleased with the system and its abilities. I have no doubt that we will be much more efficient in our daily activities across the board - from Accounting to Estimating to the Field once we do go live.
