Maxwell Systems ProContractorMX Software

3 Reviews (4.5/5)

Maxwell Procontractor MX - Construction is part of the Procontractor MX line, which is a functionally complete system that is built to handle needs of construction companies of nearly any size. The solution’s comprehensive feature set allows you to start with most critical applications you want – whether only estimating or only accounting and project management – and grow into the full breadth of offerings and valuable modules as your business needs them. Although the program is known for its accounting functionality the system also supports a firm’s project management and estimating needs.

The accounting application includes functionality standard to basic applications such as payroll, general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. Additional construction-specific functionality is offered in the application to include things like equipment tracking, multi-company support, and item billing. With a complete solution that includes project management and estimating applications, firms can get a better handle on document control and bidding while keeping their financial data in sync with the business.

The software is built to handle nearly any kind of construction firm that does not operate a service branch of their business. The system can support a varied number of trades from general contractor, heavy, highway, concrete, utility contractors and many more.

Like the other offerings in the Procontractor MX family, the Procontractor MX solution is built on the Microsoft .NET platform and works off of Microsoft’s SQL Server.

Tennessee Dirt Works LLC is a small grading contractor and has used Maxwell systems for a while, but did not use it to its full potential. We originally were just using it for earthwork takeoffs, and then transferring all the information over to an excel spreadsheet. This process, which we thought was a fast process, ended up being a very slow and tedious process once we started using on-screen takeoff and estimator. Now our pricing and takeoff is done in one system and has become streamlined, saving us a tremendous amount of time. The capabilities to build assemblies in the estimator program, that covers all the areas of site work, takes all the guess work out of building your estimate.

Also, the way the system breaks out Equipment, labor, subcontractor and material is a great tool. It allows you to see how much you have in each category instead of guessing; under the old way in excel. I would recommend ProContractorMX to any contractor that is looking to be able to bid faster and more accurate as well as track job cost in a more streamline fashion.

We have been using ProContractor MX since 2010. We are currently running 2.7. The program gives a complete earthwork take off and estimate package. The customer support is wonderful and quite helpful.

Hill Electric, Inc. is a full service commercial, industrial, residential and service electrical contractor in Northwest Arkansas with over 40 employees. As a Maxwell Systems customer we were using American Contractor. During that time we received literature on ProContractorMX in addition to seeing it on their main website. American Contractor had many benefits, however ProContractorMX has additional features such as document routing and closing months by module. It also allows us to easily export reports in PDF, Word and Excel files. Using American Contractor, we could not easily export data into spreadsheets to make graphs, charts, etc. Multi-tasking in American Contractor also took longer and was more steps than ProContractorMX.

We purchase ProcontractorMX in the fall of 2011 and went live in February 2012. We are currently running version 2.8.4.0.18. We started our implementation in October 2011. We had a weekly conference call with our trainer to answer Maxwell’s questions regarding how we used American Contractor and our needs in ProContractorMX. In addition, we also went over training each week. In-between calls we completed the online training videos in the Maxwell Systems Education Portal as homework. We highly recommend doing both. Training is VERY important to learning the system and obtaining the full value in your software investment. Our office team continues to learn, two months into using the program, however it hasn’t been a horrible learning process or curve.

I highly recommend taking notes and taking the time to explore and use the program. Make processes of how to use the system with screen shots and distribute them to the employees whose task involve that function. The first and most important process we made was for our Accounts Payable Invoice Entry and Document Routing. It allowed them to see step-by-step their job responsibility, and ensures uniform entry across the board. The online support is there and we also call the 1-800 number as needed. Our best source of support and preferred method is from our one-on-one consultant. We continue to purchase a few training hours each month for continued education and best practice recommendations. We like to be pro-active learners. Maxwell Systems has several outstanding consultants located across the United States.

The benefits of switching to ProContractorMX have been great. Its reduced data entry time, increased AP document distribution and reduced our filing time and files size by going to paperless AP Entry. We can also conveniently look-up invoices with the click of the mouse, which means fewer trips during the day to the file room. We are satisfied with the ProContractorMX and would recommend it to others. In fact we spoke to an electrical contractor this morning that is considering switching to ProContractorMX to answer their questions about our decision to use ProContractorMX.
