McCormick Electrical Estimating Software

McCormick Systems electrical estimating program has been recognized a record 13 times by the NECA. In 2011, the estimating solution won another NECA “Showstopper” award. The software offers several different levels of programs for electrical contractors based on the size of the firm, the number of estimators that need access to the network, and the complexity of the estimating tasks.

The software is geared toward commercial, industrial and residential electrical contractors. The software also includes a database for contractors involved in Transmission and Distribution as well as low voltage, fiber optics, surveillance, HVAC controls, fire alarm and other electrical systems trades. The takeoff, estimating, bid management, and service management are all offered as best-of-breed applications, which means they can be purchased by themselves or as a package. The application for project management and Job Tracking can only be purchased as part of a larger system. All of the software also includes capabilities for, On Screen Estimating, CAD, Change Order tracking and functionality for Time and Material billing.

Whether you are a one man shop or a large multi-million dollar contractor, McCormick has a system for you. The company can range in size from a single contractor to a large industrial contracting firm with hundreds of employees. Additionally, the vendor does not limit the number of users that can access the system.

The software has broad integration capabilities and is able to transfer data to Sage Timberline, On Center’s On-Screen Takeoff, QuickBooks, AutoDesk, and Excel as well as several others.

Lots of options but hard to use. You need help to learn how to use them. The tutorial needs to be more detailed. Courses are being given but only in USA so other countries such Canada, we can rely only on those tutorials

A little bit expensive so make sure you have enough quotes to put it in good use

I know that software is only as good as the vendor's support. So far I have been impressed with McCormick's commitment to helping clients with learning, questions, and tech support.

The price to quality ratio, often expressed as value, seems to just ok. Not bad, but just average, which for this product is the only negative.

We just recently purchased the McCormick 3000 software. I have taken the beginners training course and found the software to be very in depth. The support from this company is exceptional, I have been contacted by phone and e-mail since the purchase. I hate to admit, I have been too busy to get back at the software and reply to support, I will have to relearn it already.

Likes Least

Nothing to dislike so far. I need more time on the software to have a firm grip on the capability

Recommendations

When comparing software, compare prices and support. McCormick was the best to deal pre and post purchase.

While I am still learning my way around the software, my best impression lies with the service of this company. Before I even purchased the product, I was given an unexpected amount of time and attention to have all my questions answered. Currently, if I am having trouble navigating the system, I have found the tech support to be extremely and appropriately responsive. Even the representative who closed the sale on my system remains in contact and available if needed. That is unheard of in my customer service experience and greatly appreciated.

Likes Least

I have had to perform frequent updates with the system either as technology has changed on my end or theirs. While this is mildly inconvenient, I do feel like I have a product that is always up to date. These updates or issues have always been dealt with promptly and with little effort on my part so it is really not a complaint but an observation.

Recommendations

While I was shopping around for my product, I found that many companies were willing to link me to a video or even send me a sample cd. McCormick spent an unexpected amount of time making sure that I was fairly comfortable with what I was getting before I ever made a decision to purchase. I was given many layers of contact which included several un-rushed phone calls, a guided tutorial and many promptly answered emails. I would recommend anyone given this opportunity should definitely consider the amount of time a company is willing to spend with their company to make them feel comfortable with such an important purchase. Upon purchase I found the training videos to be well done and easy to follow. Within the software itself, the program is extensive and can be a little overwhelming but again, help is easy to get to. Although overwhelming, the more I get into the program, I realize how much detail they have put into this system. My bids have been so much more complete in part because of the items that are already built into the system. Also, the system does a lot for you. Once I got a few bids under me, I realized how seamless and logical it is to move from one step to the next. I can easily change pay scales or add items as an option without losing work that I have already done. The layout of the bid summary and the extensions makes putting my final proposal together very easy with all the important information at a glance.

McCormick Estimating Software is very user friendly. Once I received the product we were pretty much off and running and if we did have a question McCormick's tech support walked me through my issue step by step. With the addition of OSE Pro take off is a breeze. Since integrating this software into our everyday operations we have been landing job after job.

If I could change one thing about the software it would be a minor one, it would be better descriptions of the items and assemblies. Sometimes it is hard to figure out what part is closest to the one you would use in the field based on the description.

Recommendations

I would set up a webinar with the different companies that you are considering and see what one fits your needs best. Many have different features but I could not be happier with our investment in McCormick Systems.

I have used this product in the past at previous employers. In starting a new company, I did extensive research to find my best option for Electrical Estimating Software. The team at McCormick helped me through the process and gave me in depth access to the innovative products I had not been experienced with in the past. I took the next step in becoming more efficient with the On Screen Estimating upgrade, and can't see how I managed without it for so many years. Thanks McCormick!
