The On Center Software portfolio includes On-Screen Takeoff and Quick Bid. It has been put to use by companies globally.
The On Center offering includes a takeoff and an estimating application that can be used by both commercial and residential contractors across various types of trade. The takeoff application supports on screen takeoff, digitizer integration, file integration (CAD, PDF, etc), and 2D takeoff. The estimating application includes electronic quote system, cost databases by trade, and accounting integration. The system is compatible with tablet technology that provides field access to project data for cost and labor management.
Companies best suited for this product will bring in revenue upwards of $1 million and be of any number of employees. There is no limit to the number of users that can be added to the system so companies will be able to grow using the software.

The product does well for estimating and has some glitches that you can work around if you have been running it long enough.
On Center Software, However is basically working an angle that will chew you up and spit you out! Just like the other reviewer mentioned. You have to keep pouring $$$ into support. We own 3 subscriptions (2 OST and 1 QB) of this product, each subscription cost thousands. Each year you have to pay over $$$$$ for each sub subscription you own just for maintenance.
But here is the best part, If you miss a year or 2 of maintenance you have to go back and back pay the years you didn't pay!
(I wonder if they hired an old IRS agent as the controller?) Wow! Isn't that a great way to gain customer loyalty!
Now just like the manager of the tech support told me, "If you go for a while without taking support, you will eventually have to buy new subscriptions/software, it all ends up to be the same amount of money"..
Oh did I forget? If you don't buy your maintenance at the beginning of the calendar year, say 3rd quarter, better get your wallet out again for January!
You think they could maybe sell you blocks of time for tech support, get creative, anything? Anything other than coming after a tradesman's pocketbook so hurtfully. I'm disgusted!
Consumers, If your looking for estimating software look somewhere else. Its 2015! Everyone makes it! I'm no longer an OCS ADVOCATE!
Nothing to like about dealing with OCS. Remember it takes a long time to get a customer but imagine what it takes to get them back.
Don't get stuck with the OCS $$$ hemorrhage! Remember the bottom line is the $

Software functions fine, gets the job done faster and more organized then paper.
Apparently there is a Sunset clause where they can cancel your software. Considering the time value of money better to get a program that costs less up front with a monthly fee then to be forced to spend thousands to purchase new software every couple of years.
I was recently informed that it will be disabled. Because it comes with a dongle that has to connect to their servers to authenticate and unlock the program, they will no longer allow the dongles to connect. How much could it cost to have a line of code that says "yes" or just unlock the dongle permanently. You would think that the cost would be a program that lasts for good. So basically they expect me to purchase the software all over again and that is not going to happen. There is better software out there for less money and no ridiculous "Sunset".

I enjoy the quick and professional technical support. They are always responsive, pleasant and helpful.
I am continually discouraged by their high price for continuing education, classes, & webinars.
On-Center has plenty of competitors now that have quality products for less. It's worth doing a thorough search and review of all similar products.

Within the program, I like the ability to use it the way I see the project. It is flexible to the old guard and the new age user. Once you have the understanding of how each quantity is captured, you can set up your styles and types to make sense of the number and what it is relative to.
How much it costs and the annual fee. It is a very good product, just expensive. If you set up Quick Bid to estimate when you are doing your take off, it becomes a slow process. When you enter all the components into the line items, any time you change them, the program completely recalculates the estimate. I had a $25 million estimate and had a few changes to add and delete. It took a long time to recalculate when I added and subtracted information.
If you are cranking out estimates daily, this product is efficient. It combines takeoff with estimate totals immediately. Use the OST program to get the quantitative survey done and then open up Quick Bid to fill in the takeoff items so the the one time calculation does not hurt your time of takeoff.

I have been using On-Screen Takeoff and Quick Bid since 2005. Since then, I have learned to modify the software for many different applications. Before On Center, I used to do takeoffs by hand. I quote many jobs a year, and too many things can go wrong. Sometimes, the GC's change materials or quantities at the last minute. That is no problem. As long as you have all of your materials taken off to completeness, you really only have to worry about the other half, the labor. I also have modified and added conditions to include steel and iron connections - either welded or bolted.
Attending out of town training helped tremendously. They are always there for help when needed. When you are quoting jobs - whether $3K or $1million - this is the tool to use. All guesswork is gone.
This software counts the smallest details like screws, rolls of tape, or corner beads. These are far too laborious to do by hand. Even when roofs are concerned it, calculates your pitch on 2-dimensional drawings to give a more accurate square-footage count.

I have used On-Screen Takeoff for the last 7 years. It is very efficient and saves me a lot of time. Those who are still using scales and rulers don’t know what they’re missing. I feel lost without On-Screen Takeoff.

I've had this program for many years and I'm constantly disappointed by them. It's overpriced and crashes on a regular basis. Will not send a patch unless you sign up for their service. I have used them since they were DOS and am fed up.

We at On Center Software regret that you had a negative experience with the version of OST that you are running. We pride ourselves on providing great products and amazing customer service, so it is troubling to us when a customer feels like they are not being heard and treated appropriately.
We have had a number of releases that address the problems you are having with the version you are still running and we would like to work with you to get you onto a newer version, eliminate the problem and once again be a satisfied customer. We also have a significant number of new enhancements that will improve your efficiency and accuracy in completing your takeoff.
We value your feedback (even negative!) because it brings to light areas where we can improve our service and support. We hope that we can re-earn your faith and trust in On Center Software products and as a company in general.

I use On-Screen Takeoff (OST) from OnCenter at a full sevice site work contractor located in Tucson AZ. OST provides an easy way to export into an excel spreadsheet, which we use to create proposals for both public and private projects. I find it easier and faster to use OST for take-off purposes and to review changes with the overlay option. For those estimators with some basic skills OST can be learned in hours. I watched the tutorials and was up and running with a minimal learning curve. On occasion I have needed customer support to work through issues, which typically aren't a problem with OST.

I won contracts with OnCenter QuickBid/OnScreen Takeoff programs for years, and used 6 versions. They have top-notch service and support. We bid 35 million dollars worth of contracts per year with a single estimator, and won more than the industry average in dollars and units. Drywall/Acoustical/MetalFraming assemblies were a snap to produce and to update. The ability to reuse repetitive assemblies was great, even customizing changes on the go for each area. Multi-floor Interiors are a must for this program, and the final Bids and electronic trails are great when your looking to make good impressions! Updating materials, organized by type is a snap, and the system is very reliable.
