Value for Money

I have been on the system since 2015 with Viewpoint. Like most software's it has it's fair share of problems when upgrading to the new version. That I can live with all software's do that is to be expected. However, the complete disregard of what I need as a customer when I call into to tech support has had me more than once wanting to tell the owner we need to remove Procontractor and get a new software in here right away. Forget the fact that the T&M invoices are doubling but simply trying to clarify a proper way to edit a tax form 1095-C and being sent to a third-party company that has no idea how to run the ProContractor. You end up having to edit 240 forms is absolutely absurd. You keep calling back and they keep sending you to Greens Shades makes me wonder if the CEO really knows what is going on or just doesn't care. I mean if they would fix their text support issues it would be good system. I dread calling them. I would not recommend this software to anyone due to tech support only.

Pros

Once you get accustomed to how it works things seem to work rather well.

Cons

Great potential but still needs work.

This software has some great potential. It has the goal of almost complete coverage of a construction business process for day to day use, but it has some serious issues the limit this ability. I do believe these issues can be fixed, but at the moment they seem to be working on them. Additionally, it is not always as intuitive as their presentation makes it seem. People with lower level computer skills will have a tougher time getting proficient.

Pros

1. Great potential. With some bug fixes and some changes, this product could be so much more.
2. Covers (can cover) from estimating to collection of payments.
3. Very flexible estimating system.
4. Form and report flexibility
5. Document management
6. Above average costing ability

Cons

1. Cloud service is slow at peak times
2. Estimating flexibility could mean a user affects estimating catalog.
3. The mobile app was almost completely unusable until very recently. (I am still wary).
4. Technical support is sometimes unable to solve problems.
5. Some key documents are not in project document package.
6. State specific certified payroll not in the system.
7. Consultants do not follow through during training sometimes.
8. Expensive for a product that is not fully at its capability.

Advice to Others

Be certain to look at the areas I described closely before purchasing.

I would like to give ProContractor a good review but the cons outweigh the pros. So many other software companies out there that "get it" Pro Contractor does not. Unfortunately, our accountant is comfortable with using it which in turn makes the rest of us suffer.

Pros

Easy to run management reports.

Cons

Too many steps to enter simple information. Does not tie into the good software that's available today. Accounting is a nightmare.

Advice to Others

Do your research and find something that is up to date, there's much better out there.

We were sold the software as a complete construction software with all necessary functions from bidding, estimating, project management, scheduling so we could integrate all our internal software with accounting to seamlessly make things easier. We very quickly found out this software must have been written by programmers not ever involved with construction as the use is terrible, takes twice as long to do things and is very nonfunctional/conforming to change.

Pros

NONE

Cons

EVERYTHING and EXPENSIVE

Advice to Others

Buy something else

Sage versus ProContractor

Ease-of-use

Functionality

Product Quality

Customer Support

Value for Money

We preferred Sage 100 over ProContractor for several reasons; Sage 100 is sold thru dealers and so the customer support with knowledgeable people is much better. They are using the program day in and out and have a team of consultants that can assist you. ProContractor can bounce you around between support help which can be a bit of a pain.

Pros

Ease of use, some great functions & features, the binder where all docs are stored.

Cons

The layout is not as good as Sage 100 and does not have as long of a reputation as Sage 100.

Advice to Others

I would recommend demo both products and see for yourself which you like. Make sure with Sage to get in contact with a dealer not Sage 100 direct.

Procon can both be a time saver and a time waster. I personally find it to be a very clunky, and I believe it is about 10 years behind the game on their user interface... Which I am hoping gets an overhaul very soon because I am stuck using it as long as I am with my current company. Great in some applications, but could be better. There is other PM out there that are far better and easier to use.

Pros

Estimating
Accounting
Some Project Management

Cons

UI is awful. One of the worst in the business.
Not great on site as it should be.
The mobile app is horrendous.
Lack of support and development

This product is a little complex to master, but once you get the hang of it, it does save a lot of time. I would like for them to add an undo function and the graphics are less than par, but it works well for our company's needs.

Pros

Will do takeoffs on multiple categories.

Cons

Graphics are poor & there is no "undo" button.

Advice to Others

Their customer service follow up is horrible. It took two weeks 2 different times to get a return call and then he/she didn't always know the answer to my question.

I am very impressed with the overall functions and capabilities of ProContractor. I feel that the product has been designed with best practices in mind. Value for Money

My overall review of the conference is that it was focus on Vista and that the ProContractor user were neglected.

I talked to a lot of people and we all felt the same since the beginning with the opening they only talked and demo vista, what about ProContractor.

Please have more context in the classes, more advanced classes not only beginners. Repeat class so we don't have to take one and missed the other one completely because it wasn't offered again.

Have more accounting content, there are a lot of us that use the accounting more than anything else.

Have one on ones like before.

Pros

The classes I took were good I learned a little

Cons

Classes were to basic and not many selections.

Advice to Others

Give more to the ProContractors Users.

Value for Money

ProContractor is a good product that continues to make improvements. ProContractor is a fully integrated software that can be used with companies with different volume levels or general contractors and subcontractors. The ease of use could be improved especially in the accounting module. Customer service time is slow but improving.

Pros

Full integration with all the modules.

Cons

Not user friendly especially if you are not strong in accounting.

Advice to Others

Be extremely proactive in the conversion process and set up of the system

The day I started @ Cal Coast was the day they went live with the software migration from American Contractor to ProContractor. The software is user friendly enough that I was able to navigate it fairly easy and my biggest challenge was learning how to process tasks the Cal Coast way rather than having to figure out a complicated software. However, the experience for the rest of the users in my office that had worked on AC for the last few years was rather different. Their experience was comparative between AC and PCMX and they experienced more frustration that I did. However, my overall experience remains positive with some constructive feedback for improvements in the future.

This conference has highlighted several areas where I am doing things the "long way" when there are shorter and better ways to get done. It would be great to have a section somewhere that highlights neat little tricks and short cuts to get some of the simple tasks completed. For example, for six months we have been trying to figure out how to make our widgets in those cute little boxes on the dashboard. well we just paid the fee to come to this conference to have someone simply show us to click and drag to the end of the screen to organize our widgets. We were pleased, but it would have been nice to have seen a 2 min tutorial (like they do on YouTube) to show us how to do that.

Pros

I like the logic of the product. I feel that if you know what it is you want to do, that if you look hard enough, you will find a way to do it. I like that the categories are fairly organized and easy to follow. I like that I can create almost all my billing forms from the platform and that I can have multiple tabs of the same function open to work on multiple tasks.

Cons

I would like the lien management process to be more integrated with the invoicing process. I would like to be able to build my customers billing applications into their customer profile so it can be auto filled through the system. I currently have to process them in separate software (excel, word, or pdf). I would like to have a list of all the shortcut keys so I can avoid using my mouse for faster processing. I would like feedback on suggestions I've submitted for voting. I would also like that voting platform changed as I think the idea I have has value, but it gets lost in the feed and so people don't see it or don't even know about that function in support.

Advice to Others

Come to the yearly event. My controller came last year and I came this year. While there are vast improvements that they can make for Procontractor support throughout the event, I have had so many of my little issues and annoyances answered just by being here. Some of them are going to save us a significant amount of costs when we implement them and some of them we are just excited about because we learned to do something faster and more efficiently. The networking experience was also great and we found people right in our backyard (our own customers) that were going through the migration during the same time we were and we could have been a support to each other this whole time. Come to the event.
