Smart Contractor is a great fit for small to medium-sized construction companies seeking an all-in-one solution to manage and streamline their day-to-day tasks. This fully integrated business management system includes applications for estimating, project management and scheduling, contact management, job costing, invoicing and more.
The designers of Smart Contractor have more than thirty years of experience in the industry, so they understand the challenges small companies face every day, from the extensive time-consuming paperwork to stressful client interactions to patchy reporting. The software was developed as a fully integrated solution so that data only needs to be entered once to be accessed from anywhere. When integrated with QuickBooks, Smart Contractor really does offer all-in-one functionality.
The software offers on-premise, web-based and mobile access to users and is really well-suited to small or mid-sized companies doing residential and light commercial work that can include new, restoration or remodeling construction.
The enterprise-level applications in Smart Contractor help companies get out from under too much paperwork, offering robust document and project management. When the back end is more organized, job estimates can be done more quickly and accurately, helping win more bids and increase company profitability. It also improves customer relationships with powerful contact and lead management.
We recommend Smart Contractor to companies with less than $5 million in revenue in a number of construction industries.

The support after the sale is second to none. This company genuinely cares to help me and my employees. They are patient with us.
The software lacks ease of use. They market it as easy to use, but in fact it is difficult to use. Sometimes they treat us as if we are suppose to know programming. Most of the time when we are stuck, they log in and do for us what we cannot do, rather than teach us to do it ourselves. They offer teaching for a price, but that is BS. If it is so easy to use, why do they have to charge us to teach us. Obviously it is not that easy if they are not willing to take the time to teach us for free.
The scheduling portion is poorly designed, and difficult to use.
Dig as deep as you can during the initial courtship. Have an IT person take a look at it for ease of use, all the way through all of the tabs.

It is a good database and creates professional looking estimates and invoices.
The help section awful. I mean horrible. They provide minimal videos that get you started and excited about their product. The problem is that there are no videos to explain anything beyond the most basic functions. The help section of the software is deplorable and in order to learn how to do any process you have to search several items and put them together. Generally you still need to call support (which I will admit was very helpful, but if they were not I would have demanded a refund as the program would not work otherwise) to have them explain it and often the reason we could not get the software to work was because of a programming glitch or problems with smartcontractor communicating with Quickbooks. We have not used several of the functions we were told the software has simply because there are no instructions on how to use them unless you want to spend more (a lot more) money having them teach you what smartcontractor should have included instructions for, you are out of luck.
Just because software can do something does not mean you will have the time to learn how to do it if there are no instructions. Be prepared to spend a lot of time and $ getting this software to work properly.

We like and appreciate the user-friendly feel of it. The customer service is always there when you need them.
Error Codes. It is still a work in progress, and we are trying to learn all we can to have it accommodate our needs, therefore we get multiple error codes.
Try it out and see if it fits to your needs and then go from there.
