STACK Takeoff is a cloud-based solution suited for commercial construction contractors looking to save time and increase accuracy in their bid process. It helps users with measuring lengths, counting items, calculating areas, slopes and volumes, and can export measured values to Excel with a single click.

Every STACK subscription comes with unlimited online training and support. Its support team can remotely login to a user's computer and see what they see in real-time, as well as provide answers to questions with personalized product demonstrations. 

STACK Takeoff features a user interface that can be customized for an organization's unique trade. Users can instantly share their plans with other team members, whether they're running on a Mac or PC. Estimators who need a more complete solution that goes beyond measured values can upgrade to STACK Estimating.

Our company used a competitors software that was not anywhere near as functional. In addition, the main computer crashed and all the functionality was lost. We had to pay an additional fee to set them back up if we chose too. That is when we found Stack.

Stacks is a decent product but is kind of confusing unless you really take the time to watch the video on using the product. However, their support team is by far superb. They are quick to jump in and lend a hand and are extremely patient in helping out.

I do feel as though there should be free webinars (don't remember seeing any that are open to the public in general) for people to slowly become familiar with everything that this product offers. This is one that a lot of the general contractors links their prints too so that it loads for subcontractors automatically, but if you are not comfortable with the product, it doesn't do any good.

Advice to Others

Take advantage of the trial period when you do not have a bid that is due soon. Take your time, watch the videos and take advantage of the support team for extra help.

I have been using Stack Takeoff for years. It is very easy to you, and is much better than printing plans and doing a manual takeoff. The money you save by not printing plans justifies the cost alone, not to mention your takeoff will be more accurate.

Easy learning curve due to software is easy to learn very user-friendly. The staff at Stack very professional and helpful in ensuring you get the support you need. The trainer was very helpful any question or concern I had he put at ease by demonstrating and training me in the ways Stack TakeOff could assist my needs. Secondly, in comparison to other construction takeoff products we looked at are more complicated and costly. I found after much research Stack by hands down is a better product the support and training are phenomenal.

I was on a journey to find a software that would work on my Mac without having to download Windows onto it. All takeoff software that I attempted to use advertised that they work on Mac, but when it came down to it, they all required bootcamp or some other system that basically ran the windows operating system. StackCT was the only tool that I found to work on all hardware; because it runs in the browser. It also is very straight forward to use; at least for me, it was.

Pros

Feature rich and runs in the browser, which means it can run on a Mac without having to put Windows on the Mac.

Cons

Since there are quite a few features, some of the features naturally beg for additional features. It would be great if the software would allow easier management of takeoff features that have been added, once they have been created. That is still a little clunky. I'm sure they will improve these since they're always adding improvements and new features.

Advice to Others

Give it a try. They give you a couple of weeks for free. You have nothing to lose.

The stake takeoff for us, is used for our landscape business. For the most part, its easy to use. If your loading a lot of plans it takes a bit of time. And loading specs for us takes awhile too. It is slightly inconvenient when trying to look at loaded documents and it takes you out of the program, and you have to sign in 2 more times before you can get to the specs. That takes up time. I would say this is a program you cannot do in a hurry. Overall, the program is a wonderful program. Maybe just from a landscape point of view it could use a few adjustments but we are still very pleased and grateful for the program!

We have used stack takeoff for our commercial estimating for over 2 years. We would not use any other product. We are very pleased with the data and the user friendliness of the site. We will not be shopping elsewhere for takeoff software.

Help is only a click away. The staff are sitting there constantly with a browser window to ask questions in at any time you need it. Updates on any new tricks or items available are given to you the moment they are released.

Time, time, time management.

Pros

The ease of being able to use the software with little time to take getting used to it. Time is of upmost importance, and it took me no time to learn this program

Cons

Printing seems to be a bit more arduous than it could be. I would like to be able to print directly from the screen I am working on rather than having to populate a file to be exported for printing.

Cons

I do not like the fact that on some browsers this software does not work as fast and/or efficient as other browsers do. I'm not sure why that is.

Stack is a great product for doing takeoffs efficiently and at a great price. The features that come with it are great, and they are constantly adding new ones.
I love the fact that you get immediate attention from the developers whenever you have a question or comment. The only thing better than their product it the customer service!

Cons

It can be a little buggy when using different browsers. If I remember correctly , I was using Firefox and had problems, they told me to switch to Chrome, and when I started getting comfortable with Chrome I started having issues and they told me to switch to Firefox! I currently use Chrome, and there can occasionally be a little bug here or there (ex. trying to select one of my items to edit - hint: use the multiselect!).

Less measuring time than physical plans. The customer can submit a bid and estimate quicker.

Pros

The quick measuring and the scales are listed so you can chose which one you need. If you have any questions, the small icon is in the corner and the customer service reps answer your questions in less than 3 minutes.

Cons

If you miss measure, you have to go back and delete almost everything that you've worked on and start all over.

I will save money and time and I can provide better customer service now. I don't have to email to our reproprinter, wait for them to get printed, go pick them up, or get them delivered, then wait forever to my boss to get the takeoff to me, then send it to the customer, by the time I have the bid ready, we miss the bid date 85% of the time. We can provide much better turnaround time, especially when they are in a time crunch and need the takeoff done 911. I hate having to tell them, sorry I still don't have it, oh darn, I guess we missed our chance to bid your project, sorry!

Pros

I don't have to waste time going to get blueprints and doing takeoffs anymore. Once you figure out how to use it, it makes things much less complicated and more accurate than doing by hand using a take off tool.

Cons

just getting to know the ropes is challenging. At first I was on the phone constantly asking questions because I would forget stuff or confuse myself or make a mistake I couldn't figure out how to fix

Pros

It is so easy to use and makes visualizing our take offs 10000% easier. We can designate different colors for different materials and export to confirm install areas with our clients. Customer service is always very quick and attentive to any questions or issues and the updates have continued to vastly improve over the time we have used the software. This has changed how our business operates at every level!

Cons

In future updates, it would be nice to be able to paint over certain take off areas with patterns to demonstrate what will be installed (wood, tile, etc). This is in no way necessary, but would add tremendous value to how we communicate with our clients.

I am able to get extremely accurate square footage's off large complex building diagrams for specific rooms etc... very quickly and then I can use this in my proposal calculations to respond to my clients and prospects quickly which is very important in our industry.

The clean look and intuitive nature of the take off.
Collaboration potential is huge. Connecting teams of preconstruction/estimating in larger organizations. I think you have only begun to tap this.

Cons

I'd like if it could tie directly into estimating software.
I understand why everything has a time component, but I don't like that you have to search the calendar for the project I am working on. Most of our projects do not have a firm due date.
An actual enterprise solution with multi users would be good without trying to sell a "seat" cost would make it more of a viable option. You want to have individual users for tracking purposes, but if we have to pay for each individual, that would make us keep our current selection of Blue beam
Comment - I don't know if it can but revision control would be great for both document and take off.

What I like most about this software is the different options for reports that it gives you. I also like how easy and user friendly it is.

Cons

What I like least about this software is that only one user is able to use it instead of having simultaneous users.

I like how all the functions make doing take offs and quotes faster and way more accurate. The program as a whole is very user friendly

Cons

The symbols aren't really to size for the application we use it for. This for things like coding shrubs and trees etc

This software saves us so much time in our bidding. We used to order paper plans and to take-offs the old fashioned way where there is much more human error. That usually took 30-45 min. This software allows us to do the same thing in just a few minutes.

Pros

It's easy to use and it keeps all your work available to pull back up at a later date. Everything can be color coded and made as simple or as complex as needed.

Cons

I am not a fan of only being able to log one computer in at a time. There should be a business version that allows for multiple users on the same login or all have access to the same plans downloaded.
