EarthWorks Excavation was developed by TrakWare and their main takeoff offering for excavation plans. The product first surfaced in 1992 and is now in use by hundreds of companies.
This takeoff system for excavation plans comes with features for onscreen takeoff, digitizer integration, CAD file integration, and 3D takeoff. The product is offered only a best-of-breed basis which means that you will have integrate it with your other software or use it as a standalone system. The takeoff systems is compatible with most digitial files such as TIF and DXF. The standard package comes with onscreen takeoff, so buyers that want digitizer functionality should expect to a pay little more.
The software is ideal for companies active in concrete, earthwork excavating, heavy highway construction, landscaping, and more. We think this product is best suited for businesses that have annual revenues over $1 million but less than $500 million.
If you purchase this system, there will be plenty opportunity for training. EarthWorks Excavation includes training tutorials in the software. If that's not enough, you can attend their web-training classes that are held each week.

I had a trial offer of Earthworks software and I thought it was a good program. I had a little trouble downloading it at first but your IT person was very helpful. I would have chosen your software for purchase but the one thing that persuaded me to a different company is the 24/7 support. We are in a different time zone and it could possibly lead to a big problem if I have a deadline and a problem with my software and not be able to fix the issue if I am working into the evening. Other than that is was quite comparable to the one I actually invested in.
It seemed easy to use.
The customer service hours were too short, especially in my time zone.

Like all other software takes time to understand the system

I like the layout and the ease of use. Brian at Tally Systems is great; he will help you anytime. He explains it so you can understand it very easily. This program makes doing takeoffs enjoyable. For an old country boy, this is definitely worth taking time to try it out. If you try it out, you will more than likely purchase it.
I definitely do not have any complaints at all. And let me tell you, if I wasn't satisfied with the program or the vendor, I would let someone know about it.
Try the Earthworks, and go through Tally Systems. They don't try to pressure you at all. They will help you through any problems. I haven't had any major problems, only minor ones. And after a phone call, the problem was solved easily.
