Henry Schein Dentrix Ascend is a dental practice management system that can scale with any size practice. It's also available as both a cloud-based and server-based solution. All information can be accessed from any location in real time, from any device—Mac, PC, or tablet.

Dentrix Ascend offers an integrated practice management suite with clinical charting, billing, patient scheduling and imaging in a “natural user interface” (NUI) designed to shorten the learning curve by simplifying the workflow.

The most pertinent information is available as soon as a user logs in, and patient information can be found with a single click. The software also focuses on better patient care with targeted practice goals and a list of specific activities for each team member.

Because the software is delivered over the cloud, practices don’t have to worry about installing upgrades or maintaining expensive servers. It’s also available in a pay-as-you-go subscription.

Dentrix Ascend is best suited for those in dentistry and periodontics, as well as practices who specialize in pediatrics.

Dentrix is very user friendly! I had never worked in dental before and it was easy for me to use!

Once you get how to use it, it becomes easier and easier every time. However, some of the functionalities aren't intuitive and the reporting is as if someone who queried these reports aren't dental savvy.

I am a bit indifferent when it comes to this software. There are several functional and speed of use aspects I'd love to change or improve but I have used several other products and in comparison I would have to say this is one of the better systems for this use.

Pros

Ease of use and day to day functionality when comparing to other systems.

Cons

Sometimes have problems with freezing up and the system takes a little while to learn to use. But once you do you will enjoy it overall.

Advice to Others

It's a good brand to go with and even if you are not 100% satisfied, know that the other systems are not on the level of this one.

Dentrix is intuitive, fast, and abundant in products. I would like to see more of the Stateside products incorporated into Canada.

Thought we would be safe with Schein software. Liked the idea of cloud based but this software is fussy. Must copy and paste things to get them printed. Very annoying report system. Cannot check insurance online throught the software, although the reps "guaranteed" it would work that way. Cannot filter what statements to send to patients and cannot e-mail them either. Greg Kaye, our tech rep has not gotten back to us about getting out of this mess. Thought about going to Dentrix but I am very unhappy with Schein. Asked for a manual to help train and never got one.

Training is abominable. Over the phone/web. No easy way to learn this. Customer service is a total joke. Noone seems to know the answers except that the engineers are working on it. I feel sorry for them because no customer can be happy with the call-in options.

Overall Dentrix works amazing, as long as every staff member is trained properly on the software. The system functions well for storing patient information and having it so easily accessible to any staff member. The appointment book/scheduler is easy to maneuver and is customizable to the needs of the day. This system is a must have in our office! It's helps us run our day smoothly.

Pros

There can be so much information stored in the program, which is great if you know where to find it. The extra notes sections and flags are always so great to have and anyone can access them from any computer. The appointment book/scheduler is the perfect way for each member of staff to keep track of the day. I love being able to see when patients arrive, if they have been confirmed, if they are running late by just one quick glance at the schedule.

Cons

Sometimes when a patient chart is open from multiple monitors in the office, there will be a lag in updating the info. Sometimes notes or treatment will be added twice in this case.

Advice to Others

Get this software system and your office will be able to provide the most excellent care to your patients. That's what really matters!

I like the cloud features. I love the functionality of patient communication and the ability to view the dashboard to see the office needs for the day.

Likes Least

I really need that patient portal to be up and running to convince my employer to upgrade to the Dentrix Ascend. I really need for all features and add-ons to belong to Dentrix so that when my employer pays the extra money to get them, we don't have to go to 8 different sources for support and repairs.

Recommendations

It is the best in the market out of UmbrieDentalcare, iDentalSoft, CurveDental, and a few others. However, if you currently have a patient portal, I would wait until Dentrix Ascend gets theirs before adding them.

Dentrix offers a lot of ways of tracking treatment and patients. I love that it is so user friendly.

I don't feel like the product has any down falls at this time. I think it would be fun if is had more graphics and maybe the bubble communication worked a little better. I also think it would be great if there was a better way to do alternate links.

Recommendations
