Fleetmatics REVEAL Software


 

Fleetmatics REVEAL is a web-based fleet management platform suitable for small and mid-sized companies. Users can view all drivers on a map, and automatically detect behavior such as harsh braking, quick starts, hard corning, and other vehicle misuse; it will even send real-time push alerts to notify dispatchers and supervisors of dangerous driver behavior. By providing a dynamic map view of drivers, dispatchers are able to quote accurate arrival times to customers.

A native app for iOS and Android allows drivers to track their own performance using a smartphone or mobile device. Once drivers log in, they can view nearby company vehicles and receive their assignment. When they get too far from a vehicle, the app will prompt them to confirm that they're still using it. The Today view shows them what stops are scheduled as well as a scorecard to see how they compare with other drivers using metrics such as number of stops, idling, and speeding. Dispatchers can update stops in real-time; the app also provides turn-by-turn navigation through Google maps.

We have been using for Fleetmatics for a year. It has converted us from running our business and specifically dispatching like bats. Now we can provide accurate ETAs, see if our mechanics made wrong turns and see that the time they state that they are at a location is what reality is.

Pros

It strips away the veil of our mechanics in the field guesstimating how far they are from their destination, how long they feel they have been at their destination/job site and if they are taking side trips on the company clock.
We can manage the preventative maintenance of our fleet and see how many miles each vehicle has traveled.

Cons

It does cost nearly monthly, but the value you get added for your customers and dispatch to manage instead of run their function in the business.

Advice to Others

This is like having a security system 24/7 on that which you used to be blind - what are our guys doing in the field? Where are our guys really in the field?

Fleetmatics customer service is one of the worse I have ever seen. Horrible with replying back to emails and also with the service itself. We've had devices that are sent to us that are not functioning correctly. Management on their side does not respond in a timely manner, and we have had multiple complaints with no improvement in service.

I cannot attest to the software itself; however, I can tell you that if I could give zero stars I would. Let's be honest, customer service is just as vital to the consumer as the software itself.

My experience: I was lied to from the beginning by a sweet talking salesman. It seemed this software would be a good fit for the new business model we were implementing. I stated my reservations to the salesman as we were embarking on a new phase, and about our new model not ending up being a good fit with their software. His response, "no problem we'll do a trial run etc etc." Come to find out it wasn't and they went back on their word and kept auto-deducting the monthly fee. My company ( 8-10 million a year and I'm just the Director of Operations) was forced to stay in the contract when we tried to cancel as I was promised. The company (actually me personally as I vouched for them to the owner) had to pay some amount for a software that I was promised they would let me out of. Every time I would call in the beginning someone would say "we'll call you back," no calls. This went on for weeks and then surprise I was passed my cancellation date. Then someone called me back after that date passed!

I could go on and on; however, just beware if you proceed with this company, you might get good, or even great software, but in the end you will get terrible and frustrating professionalism. You have no one to blame but yourself because there are so many good software companies to choose from! By the way, this is a short version with many other documented examples left our for brevity reasons.

These guys put on a great show by the salespeople when they are trying to get you to sign a contract but once you sign a contract forget it. Tech support is the worst tech support in the world. We were installing in our fleet of 25 truck and their GPS tracking did not work from the start. We installed it to basically track truck mileage for IFTA Fuel Tax purposes. We only managed to install in about five trucks before we realized that it did not work and how bad the tech support was so we stopped the install.
Their GPS system would show our trucks is other countries (showed one truck in Brazil on day. We are located in the United States). Another time that showed one vehicle driving over 100,000 miles in one day. Again we were paying IFTA taxes based on their GPS tracking.
Their final determination was that all of the ECM on our trucks were bad and they suggested we replace them at certain cost each for five trucks. They finally stopped returning phone calls and they locked us out of our online portal. Because we had problems from the start we were not paying the monthly fees and finally sent them a letter terminating our contract and told them to come get their equipment. Never heard back from them. There is something wrong with this company. Rumor is that they do not own the software and are at the mercy of another software vendor.

Fleetmatics has billed me EVERY MONTH for over a year and a half and has YET TO PROVIDE ME WITH A CONSTANT WORKING SOFTWARE!
They will continually tell you they are working on it, or someone will contact you, but you will be operating without Fleetmatics working...so in essence...your paying for nothing! And beware of the 3 yr contract...that is to lower you in and stick you with a 3 yr bill....it doesn't matter if they provide you with the service your paying for!!!! OH NO!!!...they just keep stringing you along and you get nothing....I stopped paying them for something I wasn't getting....they of course are hitting my credit and trying to collect..and you know what!!!!? I'd rather have the bad credit rating and bad mouth Fleetmatics every chance I get for the rest of my, then to continue to pay them money for something I am not receiving!!
BE WARE!!!!!

I've had this product for just over 2 years now tracking 17 trucks. Overall, I like the software, the mobile app, the fuel integration, mileage tracking, and service notifications. We've had a few issues with the installed units, but the installation team (which is subcontracted out) is very prompt and responsive to getting the issues resolved. My account rep and sales team, however, are a different matter altogether.
First off, most of the time I call customer service, I will inevitably be transferred at LEAST 2 times to a different department, and will have to explain the issue in full each and every time. I had a billing dispute (where they charged me for an add-on e-log that was never received nor installed in my trucks) and they refused to issue me a credit or even really address the issue. Their entire attitude is basically "well, we shipped them out (to the wrong address) and it's not our fault you didn't install them". I've spoken with my account rep, his boss, and even the Customer service manager. Not only will they NOT respond to calls or messages (they never answer the phone), but emails go unanswered as well. I'm currently fighting them to buy out my contract so I can find a company that will actually provide service to their customers. Do your homework folks... Good product, TERRIBLE customer service!

We have had nothing but problems since Day One with the product and the company. From a customer service standpoint, the "Customer Experience" folks tend to be very unresponsive (e.g., not returning phone calls, etc.) with horrible follow-through. We are in an geographic area where cell phone coverage is not great, so it's been frustrating when you require real-time tracking of where your crews are located. Lastly, we have a small fleet of seven vehicles and in the past few months we have had at least 20 instances of the tracking unit hardware not operating. We had five of our seven vehicles not registering a month and a half ago, now two of those same vehicles have to have their units replaced again. IMO, the only reason to buy this service is for the real-time tracking, but since the hardware is clearly prone to failure, my suggestion to anyone is to purchase satellite-based GPS tracking units for your vehicles.

All's this program is good for is seeing where your vehicles are. Do not purchase this program if you would like to take advantage of it's reporting and vehicle assignment function. We have had two other issues with the reporting functions in the past 8 months and are now on our third. We were using vehicle assignment function to produce the daily time card reports to distribute to supervisors for time card review and approval until the clock time assignment stopped working. We are now going on five weeks and their incompetent IT department still has yet to fix it!!! I have spoke to three of their IT representatives, between my co-worker and I we have spent probably close to three hours each explaining and reviewing this current issue at hand. I just keep getting bi-weekly calls to let me know they still have yet to fix it and are still trying to create a "patch" or correct this issue and the problem is still in "development". We pay $2,000.00 a month to have this program work, this is just down right ridiculous and very frustrating!!!!

When your peon employee steals all of your customer information and sells it to your competitor, maybe then you'll come to realize just how important keeping customer information confidential and compartmentalized is. After we signed up and Fleetmatics told us that we wouldn't get the promised levels of access, they told us that they never had that feature but could put in a 'request' for it. So everyone we give access to our account, even if only to input parts into inventory, would have the same access as our CEO. Then, even after they failed to meet every one of their own promised deadlines, they refused to stop billing us when we requested to cancel. I wish I had read their reviews beforehand.

Pros

Low level customer service is of no use but they answer with a cool accent. The guys you need to actually talk to never call you back, though.

Cons

At this point, inability to cancel. Beyond that, it was their inability to keep their promises. Behind that was the lack of access control.

Advice to Others

If you wouldn't mind having your customer details published online for your competitors to see and like waiting for months for basic customer service response, this software could work for you.

Buyer Beware!!!!!! Fleetmatics has not lived up to our expectations and they do not stand behind their product. Our company was involved in a multi million dollar litigation that involved an accident where three individuals were killed. The GPS showed our vehicle to be several miles ahead of the accident and there was no evidence physical or otherwise on our truck, however an anonymous phone call reported our vehicle near the area. Fleetmatics refused to be deposed or testify on the accuracy of their product. We have now fulfilled our three year contract with Fleetmatics and submitted a cancellation notice and they are trying to hold us in contract for another 12 months. Where will your unprofessional-ism end?

We operate a Route Service and Charter Bus company. Fleetmatics has proved to be highly reliable in identifying and confirming timetable and route compliance for our timetables services.
We are also able to relay real time information to customers inquiring about the location of their next bus. It has also been invaluable as a tool for locating and allocating vehicles for last minute charter changes and bookings.
The replay function allows us to monitor drivers' hours which assists us to comply with NHVR driving hours regulations.
We have found Fleetmatics to be highly reliable, even in remote areas and it has helped us reduce costs by identifying excessive engine idle times and helped reduce "dead" running.
