7shifts Software


 

7shifts is a best-of-breed employee scheduling software system designed specifically for shift workers operating in the restaurant industry. Once employees download the 7shifts app onto their mobile phones, they can view their upcoming shifts, scheduled availability and time off requests from the 7shifts home screen.

If a worker is unexpectedly unable to make it to their assigned shift, the app allows employees to offer their shifts to other workers who are available, who can then bid on that shift. The unavailable employee can then reassign their shift to another worker with a single click.

If an employee’s availability changes, they can make a note within the app, which managers can then view and approve. Workers can even request time off, and managers can view and approve these requests from their own mobile device.   

Finally, 7shifts enables social networking via a feature called the "Wall," which allows employees to post messages about upcoming social events or remind colleagues of upcoming work assignments.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE!

I have been using the product for the last 5 months. The lie and say they will get back to you on the weekends. I have called for support on many Friday afternoons and Saturdays and don't hear back until Monday. I suggested they change the language to say Mon-Friday support but they refuse and said they are going to hire someone to help at some point.

7 Shifts has been awesome to use. Everything from scheduling, to shift changes to keeping the staff up to date on upcoming reservations, events and bands playing at the pub, it's all there. There is a lot of very useful features on the app, however it still maintains an efficient level of simplicity at the same time.

I'm so happy that we made the switch in our scheduling routine to using 7Shifts. The amount of time and head-aches I have saved in the few short months we've been using 7Shifts has been incredible.

I would recommend this program to anybody in the industry looking for a simple and easy-to-use method of scheduling that is beneficial to both management and employees. 15 years of doing the schedule the same way, we gave 7Shifts a try a few months ago and will never go back to the way we did things before.

Honestly, they're great. Can't say a bad thing. They're always progressing and making improvements.

Recommendations

There are a few scheduling softwares out there focused on restaurants (HotSchedules/ScheduleFly), but we've found this to be the best in terms of bang for your buck.

It has so many additional functions than other scheduling software that we've tried, and every time I think of a feature that would make it even better, they have taken my feedback and have worked on adding it!

Likes Least

There have been some issues pulling hours for payroll, which is time consuming and frustrating. But they've always been responsive in helping get them sorted out.

Recommendations

Try it! Especially if you have multiple locations. It literally saves you hours!

- Additional features continue to be available that advance our experience.
- Overall ease of use for the staff and communication about their schedule (availability & time off requests)

Likes Least

The problems we have had over the past year with incorrect reporting. Several times, the data was not what it should have been (missing lunch breaks, issues with overtime, etc). This has cost us (on more than one occasion) several hours of payroll-day headaches and frustration while we tried to figure out the problem, which was an issue on 7shifts' end.

Full visibility of what is happening in the restaurants at all times. Schedules, manager log book, requests for time off, availability changes... system shows you everything immediately. It's amazing!

Pros

Program is user friendly and has exceeded all my needs. It is more of my errors that hinder anything. The software has been great. When I have an issue because of something I did wrong, again, service is impeccable!

Cons

If I had to nitpick, I would say that when I or any of my managers "X" the window, it should automatically log them out. Or after no use for a set time, auto log them out.

Ability of staff to trade shifts, give up shifts and request times off. Makes it a lot easier when filling in the names to fill a shift from template

Make it easier to print daily lineup and schedule. Too many clicks in order to bring up the PDF which then required additional clicks

The is price right for what you get and it is fairly easy to use. I enjoyed the messaging aspect of it too.

Cons

You can't copy and paste shifts and it doesn't have a scheduler (at least my version), perhaps other version do. I would also like an integration with breadcrumb in order to enforce clock in times. It would be nice to have an rsvp system for when an event is announced such as training or a class

No glitches, easy to plug in data, many features. I can add an unlimited amount of employees and you can't beat the price. Phone app is excellent

None to speak of really. There is a little bit of confusion when there are multiple "open shifts" and multiple people claim the same one and the other is still available.

Scheduling, timely announcements to employees, manager log book is super helpful to keep track of daily restaurant happenings.

Pros

Covenience. It's easy to connect with my employees on a timely basis. I'm able to send out announcements, easily find their information and have all their requests and availability in one place.

Cons

The few glitches we've had, have screwed up our schedule when we sent it out which can cause chaos once it's posted. Other than those small issues, it's been pretty simple and easy to use

I really enjoy they Accessibility to the schedule and picking up shifts. Messaging employees through the app has also cut out of the traffic through my personal phone is helpful!

I don't like that you Cannot "swap shifts" like just swapping one for another. I also wish you could sync your schedule to your calendar!

Pros

The concept of the scheduling software is fantastic. It's very user friendly. It saves so much time with managing the employees time off, shift changes etc. Anyone in the restaurant industry looking for a quick fix for making their schedules, this is it!

Cons

Have had some issues with the app. They keep updating it which is a plus! You should be able to not put in a time under events for all day events. It should not automatically default to 12am. Different Managers should be able to have their own default schedule that it automatically goes to.

Accurately reports time when staff clock in; no mistakes noted on time sheets; we utilized the iPad app for clocking in at the store.

Cons

The only way to completely cancel your account is to call and speak to someone in person. Online cancellation is not enough to stop billing. Per customer rep, the billing software is unable to refund fees under any circumstances. This company charged me for months of unused services after I had cancelled online, but claims to be unable to refund.

7Shifts has been a tremendous timesaver! We used to spend so much time transferring requests to our paper scheduling forms. Now we can just work directly in the app. Saves paper too! Our staff is incredibly happy we've made this technological leap. Takes some stress out of their already busy lives by being able to switch shifts online. It has also alleviated the issue of "misreading" their schedule. As managers, we love that we no longer have to hear that excuse. Ha ha! Managing overtime is incredibly easier on 7Shifts. Prior to the app, we relied on floor managers to make judgement calls regarding shift exchanges when senior managers weren't available. Labor considerations didn't get factored into decisions and we would run higher labor numbers. Now that fewer managers are part of the shift exchange decisions, we know that the appropriate factors are being implemented into the decision making. The floor managers appreciate not having the pressure of making a decision that could negatively impact a shift. Posting and editing schedules in real time also alleviates issues. We would have people switch shifts and then forget. Now it goes immediately into their schedule once approved. Confusion alleviated!!! We don't use the auto-fill option but find that manually scheduling is so much more efficient in the app than it was on paper. I also love that you accept requests for features/functions and compile them for consideration. The service has always been wonderfully friendly and fast. The tutorials are really helpful and well done. I can't say enough good things. Thank you for creating such a user friendly app. Makes our busy restaurant lives so much easier!

We were a new business with a Restaurant and C-Store. Scheduling the labor for both businesses was taking all my time, plus having each employee verbally tell me when they need time off, school schedules, etc was driving me crazy, not to mention all the lost papers. With 7-shifts and the time off request and availability function, employees do the work. And with the shift pool function- it's even better. Properly trained employees can switch shifts with other employees using their smart phone with other employees and all I have to do as manager is approve. SO MUCH EASIER- I HAVE MY SANITY BACK.
My employees love it, and their is no excuse for missing a shift. Plus shift changes are a piece of cake- all I have to do is 'publish' the changes and the employee gets a txt. No more calls!
But the greatest management tool has been the weekly budget tool. With a new business, my labor cost were out of control. I can now look at the projected labor cost per day and week, and base on sales projection raise or lower the hours worked. With this function, I has literately saved hundreds if not thousands of dollars. It saved my business.

I used to use another kind of scheduling/communication app and it was 3 times the cost a month and actually didn't even have and app it was desktop only! Love this one!

This application is a great time saver not only for managing schedules as a Manager, but also for ease of use by our employees. Scheduling used to take 3-4 days and now is streamlined into maybe a 3 hour task. Employees able to trade shifts, schedule time off requests, and enter availability due to school or other job makes assigning shifts effortless.

7Shifts has improved how we run our business. Most often a great product helps in solving one problem. This is one of those rare times when several problems are solved at the same time. Improving communication between our team where everyone can easily be in the know. Establishing consistency across our stores and saving time while doing that. Simplifying the payroll process and reducing labour cost. It is feature rich and easy to use. The numbers speak for themselves, and the cost of 7Shifts is easily paid from the savings in reduced labour cost. It's the savings in time that I love, not just for me, but how it is simplifying the lives of both management and staff.

Pros

1) Feature rich - scheduling, punchclock, management log, communication. and useful reporting.
2) Easy to use and very intuitive.
