7shifts Software


 

7shifts is an online employee scheduling software system designed for shift workers operating in the restaurant industry. The solution allows employees to check their upcoming shifts, scheduled availability and time-off requests from the 7shifts home screen using a mobile app.

If a worker is unexpectedly unable to make it to their assigned shift, the app allows employees to offer their shifts to other workers who are available, who can then bid on that shift. The unavailable employee can then reassign their shift to another worker with a single click.

If an employee’s availability changes, they can make a note within the app, which managers can then view and approve. Workers can even request time off, and managers can view and approve these requests from their own mobile device.

7shifts enables social networking via a feature called the "Wall," which allows employees to post messages about upcoming social events or remind colleagues of upcoming work assignments.

Cons

I have had multiple people misuse the comment "wall" feature, I personally think there should be a way to disable it.

I think that the wall feature creates an opening for unprofessionalism. Employees can post anything on the wall.

I have been using the product for the last 5 months. The lie and say they will get back to you on the weekends. I have called for support on many Friday afternoons and Saturdays and don't hear back until Monday. I suggested they change the language to say Mon-Friday support but they refuse and said they are going to hire someone to help at some point.

7 Shifts has been awesome to use. Everything from scheduling, to shift changes to keeping the staff up to date on upcoming reservations, events and bands playing at the pub, it's all there. There is a lot of very useful features on the app, however it still maintains an efficient level of simplicity at the same time.

I'm so happy that we made the switch in our scheduling routine to using 7Shifts. The amount of time and head-aches I have saved in the few short months we've been using 7Shifts has been incredible.

I would recommend this program to anybody in the industry looking for a simple and easy-to-use method of scheduling that is beneficial to both management and employees. 15 years of doing the schedule the same way, we gave 7Shifts a try a few months ago and will never go back to the way we did things before.

Likes Least

Honestly, they're great. Can't say a bad thing. They're always progressing and making improvements.

Recommendations

There are a few scheduling softwares out there focused on restaurants (HotSchedules/ScheduleFly), but we've found this to be the best in terms of bang for your buck.

It has so many additional functions than other scheduling software that we've tried, and every time I think of a feature that would make it even better, they have taken my feedback and have worked on adding it!

Likes Least

There have been some issues pulling hours for payroll, which is time consuming and frustrating. But they've always been responsive in helping get them sorted out.

Recommendations

Try it! Especially if you have multiple locations. It literally saves you hours!

- Additional features continue to be available that advance our experience.
- Overall ease of use for the staff and communication about their schedule (availability & time off requests)

Likes Least

The problems we have had over the past year with incorrect reporting. Several times, the data was not what it should have been (missing lunch breaks, issues with overtime, etc). This has cost us (on more than one occasion) several hours of payroll-day headaches and frustration while we tried to figure out the problem, which was an issue on 7shifts' end.

Ease of scheduling.

Pros

Easy to use. Costs less than most competitors. Staff uses it everyday to look at their schedules. Managers use it look at shift notes.

Cons

Not too much to say. Micros charges a monthly fee to integrate with 7Shifts. Aside from that, we haven't found too much to not like.

way less time spent on scheduling than before. Also, it puts the impetus on the employees to take a more active role in their own scheduling. They feel more in charge and, as a result, more responsibility.

Pros

It's easy to use, the price is right, it is way better than our old paper system, and it shares scheduling responsibility with the employees

Cons

Using the 7punches app on our time clock Android tablets can be quirky sometimes. Sometimes, it loses connection or doesn't save punches. Most of the time it works well, however.

like that I can include events and notes - the staff like looking on line for schedule - I personally like that if someone cant work - I no longer have to spend time texting staff to cover - they put their shift up to bid on

sometimes hard to get back to where I need to be to eliminate old notes - never can find it! lol
trying to find a way to print the schedule so it is condensed but no job titles - my schedule is 2 pages now instead of 1 - like to not waste as much paper - just because I still print schedule to post

*Ability to modify manager log book sections.
*Roles / Time frames
*Ability to view schedule based on time frames to make sure there aren't any holes in the schedules (you won't miss filling a spot needed!)
*When customer service is live and can chat online, you get quick helpful responses

Cons

*customer service offline- not helpful. Poor responses and long response times
*server down for over 4 hours and no real reason why on it took them so long to realize it was down
*print functions are horrible
*you pay for better package but you canNOT see the sections you now have access to (which I paid for!) Ridiculous you can't see it on a printable version or for each employee. Only a manager can see it
*glitches in posting in manager log on phone versus online. Since they couldn't replicate the error, they can't fix it. Lame... I sent pictures as proof, yet they can't figure out their programming issue?
*They need to fix a plethora of issues. I can't remember them all off the top of my head

The shift Pool for employees is an easy tool to minimize my involvement in shift trades. I can simply choose to approve or deny.

Our employees find the access and communication tools to be fantastic.

I like building a schedule in as little as an hour, and then being able to communicate the schedule with my team prior to posting it.

The mobile app is really nice and easy to use.

I actually don't have much to complain about. I wish that the integration with Toast worked better, but it isn't bad.

The app. Other than that and it calculates labor dollars not much else I like about the program. To hard to use.

To hard to assign shifts and move them. Sometimes they float back to where the were. Also after making changes no need to save it just accepts all changes. In case you want to put back to normal you can't.

Full visibility of what is happening in the restaurants at all times. Schedules, manager log book, requests for time off, availability changes... system shows you everything immediately. It's amazing!

Pros

Program is user friendly and has exceeded all my needs. It is more of my errors that hinder anything. The software has been great. When I have an issue because of something I did wrong, again, service is impeccable!

Cons

If I had to nitpick, I would say that when I or any of my managers "X" the window, it should automatically log them out. Or after no use for a set time, auto log them out.

The is price right for what you get and it is fairly easy to use. I enjoyed the messaging aspect of it too.

Cons

You can't copy and paste shifts and it doesn't have a scheduler (at least my version), perhaps other version do. I would also like an integration with breadcrumb in order to enforce clock in times. It would be nice to have an rsvp system for when an event is announced such as training or a class

Scheduling, timely announcements to employees, manager log book is super helpful to keep track of daily restaurant happenings.

Pros

Covenience. It's easy to connect with my employees on a timely basis. I'm able to send out announcements, easily find their information and have all their requests and availability in one place.

Cons

The few glitches we've had, have screwed up our schedule when we sent it out which can cause chaos once it's posted. Other than those small issues, it's been pretty simple and easy to use

I don't like that you Cannot "swap shifts" like just swapping one for another. I also wish you could sync your schedule to your calendar!

Pros

The concept of the scheduling software is fantastic. It's very user friendly. It saves so much time with managing the employees time off, shift changes etc. Anyone in the restaurant industry looking for a quick fix for making their schedules, this is it!

Cons

Have had some issues with the app. They keep updating it which is a plus! You should be able to not put in a time under events for all day events. It should not automatically default to 12am. Different Managers should be able to have their own default schedule that it automatically goes to.
