ApplicantStack, is a cloud-based applicant tracking and onboarding solution specifically designed to suit the needs of small and midsize organizations.

Applicant Stack offers tools to help companies generate online employment applications, create and post new open positions, share positions on social media and build screening questionnaires to accompany online applications. As a part of the onboarding module, users can manage new hire paperwork, communications, tasks and employee information in a single place. 

The solution is hosted in the cloud, so there is no need to invest in IT infrastructure or support. ApplicantStack comes standard with customer service and support, both over the phone and via email, at no additional cost. No long-term commitment or contract is required.

I wish they had a payroll system.

Pros

Ease of use, I can get started immediately. Very affordable. Customer service is mostly good. It does everything I need it to do. I love love love the system. This system has saved my sanity.

Cons

Reporting is onerous. Technical Service ONLY wants to deal with you via email, very hard to get a human to talk with you. Sales is abrupt. Training is good not great (they want you to only watch videos). Graphical Interface is improving, but could be more intuitive. They are very defensive in receiving feedback. I say all of this as a BIG fan of the product.

Setting aside the ability to manage candidates in an efficient manner, I would say I like the support provided by ApplicantStack. I am very particular about ensuring I meet the needs of our team. Customer representative and her team have provided nothing less than excellent support in problem resolution, consideration of new features and overall functionality.

Cons

I would have to say the reporting functionality could be significantly improved. The ability to generate reports that meet the needs of our company is not as intuitive as it could be.

I have used other ATS systems with other companies and found this system to be very simple but with all the right capabilities. I would like to see different seminars such as recruiting laws and how to get better use out of the system based on recruiting requirements.

Pros

Easy to use, easy to train other to use, and very adaptable. Great for companies of any size! I have had no issues using the system or changing it to our specific needs.

Cons

I would like to be able to send an email to my managers with feedback forms so they can fill it out and it will show up in the candidates profile (Much like how I can send an email to the candidate with a questionnaire and it automatically uploads into their candidate profile). Now they have to log in and go to the profile to complete this action.

I have seen significant improvement with HR process using this application. Not only the hiring process, but another HR process including training etc can be managed within this application. Reporting module helps a lot for weekly and monthly data reports. Good App for management.

Pros

I don’t see any problem with functionality or UI. Everything looks great!

Advice to Others

Helpful application for HR department. Can manage a number of tasks on the daily basis. Helps primarily with hiring and other HR needs as well.

Pros

Should be able to get a copy of applied resumes into Google sheet. Integration with google sheet will be helpful.

Before we looked into getting a different applicant tracking system I found applicant stack to be intuitive and easy to use. Once we started looking into other systems I found applicant stack to be a little behind in terms of capability and functionality. There is similar software that has more capability for a fraction of the cost of applicant stack.

I had no experience with ApplicantStack until my current job in which that was the ATS system used. It was relatively easy to understand and use, however extremely complex to pull data from. There was the normal mass of canned reports and fields for customization, but many times you had to pull separate reports to get the needed information and then manually merge them. They have ways to go to catch up to the competition.

Easy to use on daily basis
Customer support was relatively responsive.

Cons

Data export/customized reports difficult and cumbersome
Minimal technology advancements.

Advice to Others

If you are on a strict budget it's definitely a workable no frills option.

We've been using ApplicantStack for about 6 months now, and we really love it! We're a very small company with a small budget, but have a lot of recruiting needs. Similar products we looked at charged 10 times as much, but ApplicantStack is affordable and is really a substantial product. On the recruiting side, it's very simple to post jobs, track candidates through the workflow stages, and automatically email/disposition candidates as needed. And the onboarding portal is fantastic; all of our new employees say it's the easiest onboarding process they've been through. It works just about "out of the box", but you can customize it to fit your specific needs, and they have a great help team (located in the US) that is very responsive when help is needed.

You can't beat the price for ApplicantStack! They are just as powerful as the other applicant tracking systems, but without the high price tag. Despite the cons I would highly recommend them to anyone!

Pros

They really get to know you, and your business and the needs associated with you and your business. Prompt with email help, they replied within about two hours.

Cons

Not integrated yet with Shibboleth yet, and when you call for phone support you never get anyone, you only get voicemails which is kinda frustrating sometimes.

Advice to Others

They are great for small to large businesses with their powerful tools.

I work with clients to help them with recruiting and other HR needs, and have worked within ApplicantStack through one of my clients. ApplicantStack is a good, simple solution for small businesses.

Pros

I like the ability to create custom work flows as well as candidate scoring and Boolean search options. This system is very efficient for the cost in comparison to other ATS's I've interacted with. I also like that it is easy to show history and communicate through this system.

Cons

As far as I can tell, complete OFCCP compliance either isn't available or is only available with a larger plan. With the smaller plan you only get 1 admin and up to 5 hiring managers, but many small companies can make due with that since you can switch the users as needed.

Advice to Others

When considering ATS's in general, I would always make sure the system has the reporting you may need for compliance. Also, being able to communicate with hiring managers and candidates through the system is very helpful because it keeps all of the documentation in one easy-to-access place.

Likes Least

The interface of ApplicantStack has a learning curve and is somewhat tricky. However, after the initial setup growing pains, the system offers a lot of options and control.

Recommendations

I highly recommend trying demos for as many Applicant Tracking Systems as possible. That's how we decided to use ApplicantStack. The different software products handle slightly differently, and so what is best for one company/HR department may not be the best for others.

Terrific software that is more flexible than most of what we looked at, so it works well for our very unique hiring needs. Vendor support is very responsive and has made a lot of custom enhancements for us at no or very reasonable cost. Software is continually improving with new releases.

We would prefer to have an option to easily capture actual written signatures electronically vs electronic signatures.

Recommendations

Find out if other companies doing the same type of work are using it. Onboarding needs can vary dramatically, and some software packages have strengths and weaknesses by industry.

We evaluated several ATSs and ApplicantStack was the only ATS we found that was budget-friendly yet offered all of the functionality that we required (which was a lot). You get way more than what you pay for, and our experience with the vendor in terms of tech support and sales has been nothing short of stellar. We utilized ApplicantStack's integration services and customization options which were both very cost-effective for what we wanted and the amount of work that we requested. Everyone was amazing to work with!

The user interface isn't as "sexy" or sleek as some other budget ATSs out there, but for us function far outweighed form so we selected ApplicantStack as our ATS. It doesn't incorporate some of the newer functionality that other ATSs offer such as tagging candidates (e.g., "#salescandidate"), but we have found other work-arounds for being able to effectively manage a "future candidate" pool. Lastly, it does take a while to get up and running but this period of time may not be significant if your company is very small and you don't need a lot of frills with your candidate communications documents, job application, or pre-screening questionnaires. We thought long and hard about our entire recruitment process as we are building up our recruitment processes, so it took longer as ApplicantStack doesn't offer consultants to walk you through every phase of the process like you may have with a larger ATS roll-out. This is to be expected, however, with an ATS of this quality and low cost.

Recommendations

Do not discount ApplicantStack just because they don't have a big name like Taleo. They offer an amazing product for the budget-conscious company, and I hate to even associate the word "budget" with this tool as it is so functionally comprehensive that the term "budget" seems to downplay its utility. Perhaps a better word is value. Definitely recommend for consideration.

The product is really easy to use and is the best ATS I have ever worked with. It's not overly complicated, but there is an amazing team at ApplicantStack that is very willing to work with us on any product enhancements that we'd like to see, or assist with minor projects as needed as well. They know what they are doing and are quick to help. With the ever-changing world of recruitment, I find that the flexibility is key because you never know what may be needed next! They are also always improving items I hadn't even thought of, which is wonderful!

Cons

There is really nothing that I do not like about this software. If I had to pick something I suppose their onboarding piece is not yet very robust so we aren't using it yet, but from our experience with the recruitment piece of it, we know the onboard side of the platform will continue to grow and we will move to it soon.

Speed. From start to finish we were configured and up and running in 1 week.

Pros

We didn't want to force an applicant to have to spend time keying in information in order to submit their resume. ApplicantStack allowed us to set up so that they give us 8 candidate field data points and then can upload a resume and they have applied. Three minutes or less and they are in our queue. We love it. Applicants love it.

Cons

Reporting is hard to master in terms of building and designing a report. Are you filtering or grouping etc? Luckily, I find AppStack's technical team was great about looking at what I built and then correcting me where I was wrong.

We reviewed Applicant Stack and considered taking advantage if the free trial but decided its simplicity of features, functionality and process was too simple for our needs. If you simply need a database and have time to personally configure/customize the process or willing to pay a $300 service fee for set-up support. It appears the software is due for an upgrade, appearing clunky and a generic, dull, unvarnished candidate appearance (jobs listing and career page).

The system configuration really needs to be done by someone with experience. For people with experience in HRIS, the system is extremely easy to use. For customer service, I typically have to email or leave a message. I don't typically get a live agent. However, they respond within 24 hours. The system does not have the latest greatest when it comes to technology- IE no system integration with HRIS, no mapping of candidates, no integration with google suite (calendar), no map abilities. They are starting to incorporate onboarding abilities (new hire paperwork, forms, etc) into their product which I have not yet explored. The number of users (hiring managers) is limited by how much you pay so as your company grows you will need to pay more and more per month to allow more hiring managers in the system.

Pros

It is very easy to use.

Cons

I do not have the ability to search for a job like I do a candidate. For our system, we have hundreds of jobs and I just have to go page by page since it is limited to view only 100 per page until I find the right one.

Advice to Others

This is really easy to use and makes it easy to launch a job. We get a lot of candidate responses and the set up is very easy once you have it going.

Open API simple to use. Don't need to be a pro to use this. I thought myself in a hour how to maneuver the entire tracking....from posting to recruiting to Onboarding.

ApplicantStack is one of the best ways to manage the flow of applicants for multiple different jobs for our office. It allows me to do multiple things from one place and makes it easy to communicate with potential new hires.

Pros

The ability to post new job listings to job boards makes this product so useful. I do not have to go out to each board individually and post them. Being able to receive an email when a new application is filled out is a nice feature too.

Cons

Some of the items I look for from time to time are hard to find within the different menus. When I do "deactivate" an applicant for whatever reason I wish there was a way to edit the letter to tailor it specifically to each applicant if need be.

Applicant Stack is an excellent tool for the full service talent development cycle. The software tracks all applicants, sends notification letters to applicants, and allows for edits to job postings. The software also posts the positions with the various job search engines.

Pros

The system is very easy to use. It allows you to customize the applicant process to fit your needs. It maintains applicants electronically and alerts you when an applicant has applied before and for which position. It is an extremely affordable software.

Cons

I have not found any cons with the system to this point.

I haven't had any issues with ApplicantStack other than the fact that our version is a little outdated. It is a very easy system to use, but we don't have mobile capabilities in which we feel would be more beneficial to us.

Pros

It's very well priced! Also very easy to use and maneuver through, you can have the hiring managers look through candidates vs. printing off hard copies, and it's easy to find candidate's resumes.

Cons

We don't have a mobile version of ApplicantStack (which we feel is turning applicants away), it's a little outdated in terms of being able to link with Outlook and other systems, and it could be easier to interact with the hiring managers...in order for us to communicate with the hiring managers, we have to set the stage of the candidates and then email them separately to start a communication chain. If this was able to be done in one place, it would be much easier to communicate!

I work in a K-12 school in New York City in the HR department. Our school is spread across 3 buildings and has over 200 employees.

Applicantstack pros: simple teach to hiring managers; no more missing resumes; notes are shared, and we can do so taks at the click of a button.

The library is fantastic; we keep job descriptions, email templates in one spot. We are very organized.
Recruiters are using the system to input candidates.

So happy we have this amazing tool!

The customer service is super; I get immediate responses to any question. They help me learn new features, figure out when I have a setting wrong-just the best customer service.

I researched a number of applicant tracking platforms about two years ago. We were a start up who was looking for something that could keep up with our rapid growth, yet wasn't going to break the bank.

Applicant Stack has done 90% of what we needed for a fraction of the cost. Their customer service is second to none. I would highly recommend purchasing Applicant Stack if you're currently trying to do without a formal system or are spending far too much on a platform that has capabilities that just aren't necessary for companies under 500 employees.
