ApplicantStack, is a web-based applicant tracking and onboarding solution specifically designed to suit the needs of small and mid-sized organizations.

Applicant Stack offers tools to help companies generate online employment applications, create and post new open positions, share positions on social media, and build screening questionnaires to accompany online applications. As a part of the onboarding module, users can manage new hire paperwork, communications, tasks, and employee information in a single place. 

The software is hosted, so there is no need to invest in IT infrastructure or support. Most of their customers have reported implementing the software in a couple of weeks. 

ApplicantStack comes standard with customer service and support, both over the phone and via email, at no additional cost; since 2007, they have worked with companies across all vertical markets. No long-term commitment or contract is required, and a free 15-day trial is available.

I work with clients to help them with recruiting and other HR needs, and have worked within ApplicantStack through one of my clients. ApplicantStack is a good, simple solution for small businesses.

Pros

I like the ability to create custom work flows as well as candidate scoring and Boolean search options. This system is very efficient for the cost in comparison to other ATS's I've interacted with. I also like that it is easy to show history and communicate through this system.

Cons

As far as I can tell, complete OFCCP compliance either isn't available or is only available with a larger plan. With the smaller plan you only get 1 admin and up to 5 hiring managers, but many small companies can make due with that since you can switch the users as needed.

Advice to Others

When considering ATS's in general, I would always make sure the system has the reporting you may need for compliance. Also, being able to communicate with hiring managers and candidates through the system is very helpful because it keeps all of the documentation in one easy-to-access place.

ApplicantStack's customer service is fast and friendly. We've contacted them numerous times about questions and job portal formatting changes, and they've helped us every step of the way.

Likes Least

The interface of ApplicantStack has a learning curve and is somewhat tricky. However, after the initial setup growing pains, the system offers a lot of options and control.

Recommendations

I highly recommend trying demos for as many Applicant Tracking Systems as possible. That's how we decided to use ApplicantStack. The different software products handle slightly differently, and so what is best for one company/HR department may not be the best for others.

The sales team is very hard to get in touch with; when I was looking to purchase, I had to jump through hoops to find them.

Recommendations

play around with lots of ATS offerings before you choose, but remember you'll live in this application 2080 hours a year if you area busy recruiter

Terrific software that is more flexible than most of what we looked at, so it works well for our very unique hiring needs. Vendor support is very responsive and has made a lot of custom enhancements for us at no or very reasonable cost. Software is continually improving with new releases.

We would prefer to have an option to easily capture actual written signatures electronically vs electronic signatures.

Recommendations

Find out if other companies doing the same type of work are using it. Onboarding needs can vary dramatically, and some software packages have strengths and weaknesses by industry.

We evaluated several ATSs and ApplicantStack was the only ATS we found that was budget-friendly yet offered all of the functionality that we required (which was a lot). You get way more than what you pay for, and our experience with the vendor in terms of tech support and sales has been nothing short of stellar. We utilized ApplicantStack's integration services and customization options which were both very cost-effective for what we wanted and the amount of work that we requested. Everyone was amazing to work with!

The user interface isn't as "sexy" or sleek as some other budget ATSs out there, but for us function far outweighed form so we selected ApplicantStack as our ATS. It doesn't incorporate some of the newer functionality that other ATSs offer such as tagging candidates (e.g., "#salescandidate"), but we have found other work-arounds for being able to effectively manage a "future candidate" pool. Lastly, it does take a while to get up and running but this period of time may not be significant if your company is very small and you don't need a lot of frills with your candidate communications documents, job application, or pre-screening questionnaires. We thought long and hard about our entire recruitment process as we are building up our recruitment processes, so it took longer as ApplicantStack doesn't offer consultants to walk you through every phase of the process like you may have with a larger ATS roll-out. This is to be expected, however, with an ATS of this quality and low cost.

Recommendations

Do not discount ApplicantStack just because they don't have a big name like Taleo. They offer an amazing product for the budget-conscious company, and I hate to even associate the word "budget" with this tool as it is so functionally comprehensive that the term "budget" seems to downplay its utility. Perhaps a better word is value. Definitely recommend for consideration.

We can easily define which candidate needs to be contacted in the future and can manage their information accordingly. it helps with backing up the information as well.

The best feature about Applicant stack is parsing the keywords from resumes. This helps us a lot and saves a lot of time checking each resume individually. We can define the set of keywords based upon the job selected and number of experience a person has, and it provides the desired data.

When a person apply again for the job, we need to manage duplicate data somehow. i did not find this option within applicant stack yet.

Recommendations

Again, the keyword parsing is a good feature and save lot of time. Can be used well by HR departments for the hiring process.

It seems it does not integrate with projects. But since we have candidate profiles in the system, so it would be nice to link them with projects directly form Applicant stack.

The interface for ApplicantStack is organized really well. Infact the concept of tabbing in the designs, divide the functionality in its own section and it helps users a lot. The system is mainly develop to manage employees and candidate information and is very helpful for HR.
It can be configured to customize a bit on the interface level and user roles can be setup too.

I would like some third party integrations if possible. There could be google apps and drive, calendar integration to manage the employee and candidate data.

I love how customizable everything is. You are really able to make it your own and add, delete or rename work flows and action items to tailor to your departments specific needs.

Reporting is a concern as it is not really made for tracking multiple users. Also there seems to be a lot of time out connection issues as well, however their customer support portal is always on top of getting back to you immediately if there is an issue.

Recommendations

ApplicantStack is very user friendly. Even when I first learned how to use the system, I was able to pick it up very quickly.

What I didn't like about applicantStack is that I could not go through an interview or phone screen through the system. I could only upload answers later. I would like to have a system that had our interview questions integrated in the system so when I move them to phone screen I can ask them questions then type out their answers within applicant stack.

Recommendations

This is a very easy software to use. I would recommend it for any business with smaller operations.

Recommendations

I honestly cannot say that there is anything that I don't like about this product or working with this company. They are very proactive and solution oriented. If something doesn't work, they provide excellent service in a timely manner to fix or resolve the issue or explain it in further detail. If we want something done differently, they really do try to find a solution that will work for what we want to accomplish.

Recommendations

The power of simplicity cannot be underestimated. ApplicantStack is robust and offers so many options, but can be easy to use and kept quite simple for the user who does not want all kinds of customization. It's easy to use and learn and most of how things are done follow basic, common sense instructions. But, for the user who wants more, the system allows the flexibility and customization to provide great detail and so much more if that is what you want.
