I spend way too much time going over everything with a fine tooth comb to be sure things are accurate. Still after many months, there are on-going issues with how things are set up etc. It defeats the purpose of "saving time, saving money" when I cannot count on things being correct. Many of the functions do not quite work how I would expect them to. I have had to go back to support multiple times on different issues and many of the same issues (the biggest frustration) to correct things. My customer support has gotten better but initially it was clear the person I was set up with never took the time to actually read my emails.
Do your homework. My other suggestion would be to get a company that is in your state and knows your state laws inside and out.

Ease of use. At first (if this is new to you / your company like for me) it seems like a lot of information and a lot to learn. It is a lot of information but so very easy to navigate. Super user-friendly. Getting answers to questions is a cinch and multiple ways to get them. From the self help which truly is step by step, simple to understand or I can call, email or submit a request. I have done all of the above for the littlest of things and I always find or get my answer, almost immediately. Everyone on the "team" that I have had contact with has been great and always kind. The best part is having everything we need at hand from Payroll to HR and employee services.
What I liked least, though it was temporary was the "set-up" of services. There seemed to be "too many hands in the pot" so there were misunderstandings about what services we wanted or needed and I felt I was resubmitting documents repeatedly to different people or departments that didn't know they already had them.
Do your homework. I met with, researched, compared and evaluated many options and providers of the services we were looking for, which was everything. From the "big" guys to the "little" ones. Overall, we went with APS because not only did they come highly recommended but they also are very personal. It was important to me and for our small and growing business, to be able to have direct contact with someone and that would get to know us. We have our own team with APS and that is a huge plus. With that, we have all services, one platform that also allows us to empower our employees. Definitely the most bang for your buck. Great services and not overpriced.

1. The orientation is 4 half hour sessions. It's really that easy to get started.
2. Reduces labor hours in ACA report, EEO report, OSHA report, and Workers Comp audit
3. Staff Appraisals are easy to set up and its easy to look back at previous reports
4. Required docs have to be acknowledged for staff to continue having access. Staff who do not give direct deposit information automatically get free pay cards so compliance and check handling labor is saved
Especially in the early months, it would be nice to have a next button to go from one staff to the next sequentially. You have to back out, choose the employee list, and then choose the next employee. This is not serious enough to affect choice of program.
We have previously used Paychex and ADP. They have portals that were designed in the 90's and not intuitive. For large payroll that uses ADP daily, it's not that hard to learn. For small companies who don't use it daily and for training new payroll staff hires, the old companies are way behind the intuitive interface of APS.

The software works on the Safari platform so I don't have to download other browsers. Although not completely intuitive, the software is easy to use and the customer service is excellent. I love how they assign one service rep for consistency but others are always available to help you if needed. I have used Automatic Data Processing (ADP) and Paychex, and hands down this is the best software we have found to manage our payroll. I would highly recommend this company to anyone.
Some of the features are not as adaptable to our needs as we would like, and some of the reporting capabilities are not intuitive, but again the customer service is far superior to that of any other company so it has really been a non-issue.
Customer service and ability to correct user errors efficiently is key. If you are looking for a software that will make payroll less stressful and will do everything it says it will, this is the one for you.

The transition from our own payroll process to APS was almost seamless and such a time saving process. Any minor problems were addressed and solved expediently by our assigned account representatives. I can't stress enough the amount of time and effort it has saved my company when processing payroll and when calling for support, I am so glad that we chose this company.
No issues with this product. The learning curve was very minimal.
I would highly recommend this service and software. We looked at several different payroll processing services, but this company was not only the best pricing but very easy to learn and utilize. Not only is this service is reasonably priced, but is time saving and very efficient. We couldn't ask for better service from this company, as previously with our other service, any problems (even small ones) involved a minimum of 3-6 hours of waiting on hold with the customer service group and some problems were never solved after months of waiting.

Keep in mind to review all aspects of the vendor including their technologies especially for time keeping and employee clock-in. APS has superior products for this.

We really like the integrated time keeping and payroll modules. We were using 2 separate services before and this has saved us huge amount of time. It also fairly easy to use and it looks really clean.
Sometimes it acts a little buggy. You'll need to refresh or log out and then log back in but not too often and the support staff is really nice and helpful. Some of the reports arentied to check date instead of real time so I can't get as accurate an a report as I would like but I'm still getting used to it.
It is a great price for an all-in-one system. It's easy to use and it looks very clean.

I recommend using the help that is given. You can always call or instant message. When I instant message within 5 minutes I have received a response. It is a live person messaging you so they actually understand the question and answer it correctly. If I end up calling my calls are usually less than 3 minutes. A few things are a little difficult to use but not many. Examples - pay raises that fall in the middle of the pay cycle, adding new pay accounts (just need to remember to add the department groups) and importing to QuickBooks.

This software has made report generating a snap. And sending emails has never been so easy. It now takes our Bookkeeper less than a third of the time to process payroll and W-2s. And I love the Events notifications.
There are no dislikes, however I wished they would add more HR features in the future.
I would recommend that before contacting APS or even looking at their demo that they sit down and make a list of what they need in their business and the prioritize it. Such as are they looking at the payroll aspect only or do they need reports generated.

We used to do our payroll in house. We utilized a web-based time and attendance system that integrated with QuickBooks. Direct deposits were handled through a web portal to our bank. Doing payroll every other week with the old system took as much as a few hours each time. With APS payroll can be completed in as little as 10 minutes. It is a huge time saver for us.
There really is nothing to dislike. There was a learning curve of course but that would be true of any program.
I'd recommend going with one that includes everything, like this one does - a great time and attendance system, easy payroll, and HR functionality all in the same place.

We definitely had to change a couple of internal ways of processing our payroll. We have 3 companies we provide payroll for. It was a challenge at first but definitely adjusting and enjoying the product more.
Please sit and do a full demo with APS. Their sales and staff team is very helpful. Well worth investing the time if you are looking to make a change.
