BambooHR is a cloud-based human resources (HR) software service for small and midsize businesses. BambooHR offers small and growing companies a human resource information system (HRIS) that includes an applicant tracking system (ATS) and HRIS tools to manage all aspects of the employee lifecycle.

BambooHR provides HR process automation tools that are accessible in several languages and multiple currencies. The platform allows HR professionals and managers to track organizational data such as employee turnover and retention.

BambooHR also provides customization services, multiple administrator seats, user support and the ability to maintain inactive employees. Administrators can provide access to all employees or limit access to only those in the company that need it.

Pricing is subscription-based depending on the number of employees plus a one-time implementation fee.

Before we chose BambooHR, I had made a deep research and tested more than 10 different HR soft. BambooHR offers the best solutions, quality and support is overall great.

Pros

Employee self-service feature is cool. Ability to adjust different access levels, great time-off tracking, onboarding and offboarding.
Mobile app, files storage.

Cons

In Org Chart it's not possible to set up a matrix structure (when 1 person has a few managers).
Also, it would be good to make ATS an optional feature, not included in basic price. In comparison with other ATS (Greenhouse, BreezyHR, Workable etc) this one is rather limited, so we don't use it.

Middle of the road software that needs improvement

We are currently researching other HR software. I'm not sure which is better, software that contains the modules needed with obvious and crippling flaws or software that is easy to use both by admin and employees with limited modules.

Pros

The idea of on-boarding a new employee electronically is a huge plus. It engages employees before they start and makes it so that they come in with paperwork already filled out and spend their first day doing more than just paperwork.
Most of the framework is in place, but EACH area needs improvement, both in the functionality for administration and the ease of use for employees. The sections offered are vital, but aren't complete.

Cons

The benefits area is lacking a lot of common sense tools - like the ability to attach plan documents to an insurance plan (only a link can be used), display plan cost information to an employee BEFORE they sign up (the pricing is only available AFTER they sign up and become eligible). Many things like this create double the amount of work for the administrator.
The actual on-boarding process was a struggle because even though the forms were done properly by the employees (I sat with a few and watched them), it didn't save all information in completed fields. Employees were frustrated when they had to fill out forms multiple times because you cannot edit once saved.
I love that employees can e-sign documents, but preparing the forms is cumbersome and they can't be customized easily. For instance, if you need to update a form because something has changed or didn't save properly, you have to delete the task and resend to any employees who need an updated form.
When I discussed a few very basic items with support, they just offered a work around that many clients use. These are obvious flaws in the system that need to be addressed, but aren't necessarily a priority. Bamboo HR seems to focus more on flashy design than actual content. It makes them seem like a leader in the industry, but as soon as you dig in, the flaws are obvious.
For the price, there needs to be more development in the software.

Overall, I would highly recommend BambooHR to any small, growing business. It will make HR management much easier.

Pros

You can do EVERYTHING in BambooHR. We have completely digitized our personnel files, our onboarding system has improved dramatically, and staff are able to answer their own benefits questions by just logging in. It's made tracking PTO and all HR related procedures much simpler.

Cons

There is little to no customization in the performance review function. I hope that as that tool develops, BambooHR will allow for more reviews and options.

Pros

BambooHR provides a good solid base for your ATS and HRIS needs. Let's you create checklists and store documents with specific security profiles. It is really a clean and simple tool. It suited my needs as a single HR person managing 50+ team. They have lots of 3rd parties software that can be synced.

Cons

They are still developing and refining some areas. For instance, ATS function for bulk selection of candidates and printing their emails...

BambooHR is very user-friendly! I love all of the neat features BambooHR has to offer. Specifically, the e-sign feature. Many other HRM system does not have this feature included in their packages. If we make an update to the employee handbook or IIPP, employees could sign their acknowledgements at ease through the system.

Cons

I wish the Performance Management Appraisal system came with the core features rather than as an additional add on feature $.

I love the features! Its a great tracking software for potential employees as well as already hired employees. I like how easy it was to use, and the easy job board push with filtering questions. I like the employee time off tracking as well. You can easily see when someone is out of the office or on vacation.

Cons

I think this is more for a larger companies who want a hire to retire system. We are just looking for an applicant tracking system. Something a lot simpler.

Overall, we've been happy with this ATS and onboarding. It has made our lives smoother for both the employer and employee (candidates too). It is scalable too, from small company to larger company.

Pros

The program is reasonably priced, easy to use, visually appealing, and frequently releases new features/updates for all components.

Cons

Customer care is harder to contact and usually only via email. Trainings are usually only offered one time/day each week which isn't usually ideal for meeting the needs of many customers.

Very easy to use and the employees can understand their side. Bamboo performance is good but could be better if it was available on the app for the employees to access more readily.

Cons

I would like to see the app more functional for the employees. Currently the app only shows people gone from work in there division but since our company is small we would like all employees to see time off across the board. This app is just a time off request app. Needs more functions for this. Online version is great but the functions employees need are performance and files to look up.
Access to performance assessments would be great on the app. Our employees work in an environment where computers are not readily available. We work in rooms where wash down is going on and in coolers and freezers. Phone apps work best for our company. This app is lacking in functionality.

Cons

The benefits portion was a little confusing at first, but once I figured it out (took about 20 minutes), it was a breeze. All you have to do is get a breakdown from you benefits provider of total contribution for employee and employer. Then when the calculations portion comes up under the benefits group, just go back to the excel spreadsheet that your benefits provided gave you and build a calculation then make sure the calculations match when you put them into the benefits group.

For example, at my company, we get paid every other week. For one plan, employees pay $650.15 and the employer pays $650.15, which equals a total cost of $1,300.30 per month. So in the plan portion, I would put the total cost as $1,300.30. Then I would add the benefits group and refer back to my benefit's provider spreadsheet. Under employer contribution it would be $650.15 and under employee contribution, it would be $650.15, so from there I would build a formula based up the amount of times we get paid in a year. Since at my company we get paid every other week, I know that there are 52 weeks in a year, therefore we have 26 weeks of pay, so the formula would be the amount of employee or employer contribution multiplied by 12 months to get the annual contribution. Then I would take the annual contribution and divide that number by 26 since we have 26 weeks of pay. In other words, for my company, the contributions are the same so both formulas would be =($650.15*12)/26 which comes to $300.07 with rounding. So I would go back to my benefit group and put in $300.07 for employee cost (every other week) and then $300.07 for employer cost (every other week).

I think this is a very small con and it has nothing to do with the software. I think if it was just mentioned in the training module, it would create less confusion. Either way, BambooHR is amazing!

I feel like they really try to save time for the recruiter and thought of things one step ahead. There are many capabilities that I haven't started to use yet but have been shown them. They have lots of tutorials and their customer support is very responsive.

Cons

So far so good. I really can't think of anything that I don't like about it. I would love to see them add an automated reference check to the system, but that's not super common anyway. They seem to be constantly improving the system and adding features.

I loved the ability to have my employees e-sign various documents. It has streamlined our employee data collection and dissemination of important information in a timely manner. Both the web and app make it so easy for individuals to request time off.

BambooHR is a clean, simple, and easy-to-use product that does a great job of fitting the needs of SMBs. Anyone who has ever worked in either a paper-based or Excel-based setting will quickly appreciate the centralized data, terrific user interface, and (perhaps most of all) the self-serve aspects that allow employees to access the system on their own (e.g. vacation, sick days, training, etc.)

Cons

As a product, it is great - but the applicant tracking system (ATS) module wasn't one that we chose for our company based on our own personal preferences. The product can be considered to be a little more on the expensive side when compared side-by-side to other HRISs; but remember - you get what you pay for!

As an administrator, it is a wonderful tool. All the important alerts, email setting and reporting help me maximize the ease of HR matters.

Pros

Ease of use, intuitive, great customer support. I have asked a couple of special requests for our company and they took care of them quickly and efficiently.

Cons

Windows Phone is not supported. (which is pretty minor at this moment)

Cons

Not much to dislike. I look forward to more functionality with the signed documents and the automatic organization of files once documents are signed. I also look forward to more functionality with the ability to post jobs. Moved from gSheet and excel into an integrated system where we can keep all employee records, emergency contact names, salaries and reports.

Pros

Besides keeping personnel records, you can schedule time off, keep docs and policies in place, create and save several types of reports that will help in finance and other types of activities.

Cons

Maybe this is not the apps problem but we haven't been able to integrate payroll with the software. We need to do more research, especially when it comes to labor laws.

This product allows my management team to be on the same page with employee administration. Our managers are able to access our Bamboo account from anywhere, allowing them to keep better information on their staff.
It helped reduce costs by allowing employees to enter & update their own personal information. the reporting has automated several manual reports we used to produce in the corporate office.
We continue to automate more processes with the help of the Bamboo development team.
The on boarding and off boarding processs is streamlined by offering electronic on boarding, taks assignments, and e signature documents.

Pros

Bamboo HR covers every aspect of employee administration and HR management.
The canned functionality and reports meet 90% of my organizations needs. The minor things that we discovered missing, we requested and Bamboo customized them for us - very quickly and at no additional charge.
The cloud based platform keeps my entire management team on the same page with their employees as well as with the other departments.
Bamboo is very intuitive and easy to use.
Bamboo allows you the ability to alter screens and develop your own specialized reporting.
Our employees have the ability to view and update their personal information and request time off through a free app.

Cons

I have nothing negative to say about the product.

The only thing missing for my organization (which Bamboo is researching at this time) is time clock integration. They do have time clock integration, but we use a facial recognition time clock and they do not have a solution for that product type at this point.

More time to focus on other important functions I am responsible for and the amount of inquires we would receive from Management has dramatically decreased, as they can find the information they need by just logging into bambooHR.

Pros

Real time reporting is great and the fact that you can create your own reports in a few clicks saves a lot of time... prior to bambooHR we didn't have a system and we had to manually pull various pieces of information and create various excel spreadsheets. The on-boarding feature is also very efficient.

Cons

Would like to see the payroll side added for use in Canada. The system we currently use for processing payroll is old and do not provide any other benefits other than basically paying our employees.

This software will not automatically integrate with ADP Workforce Now payroll system. Tried Customer Service but did not get much help.

+Customer service (A real, consistent person works with you and they are awesome! They always follow up with me as promised and are totally helpful and nice.)
+Ease of use - so user friendly.

Cons

-Still have some features to work out for their recent product, BambooPayroll. Specifically, there is no malleable data extract available for payroll automatically. I'm currently having to work with them to create two custom reports for me. And I believe they will still be by payroll or by time frame upon request, not self-service run. I'm sure they'll continue to improve this, however, since they've rolled out many improvements since I've joined.
-Hiring portal could be improved, but it's great for what we need it for. Great product overall and wonderful service!

It is very easy to use. I appreciate the fact that once the application and resume cone through, you can track the progress and the applicant can easily be converted to an employee.

Cons

The fact that it isn't customizable. There are some things we would like to do thst works specifically for us.

Place for general company information and forms; onboarding of new employees that are off-site; automated time off requests/approval; data and set or custom reports at your fingertips and will convert to excel with click of a button! Track turnover; very easy to give access to certain people or give people only access to certain documents.

Pros

Easy to use and the help online is extraordinary! The on line videos and information is great and if you cant find what you need its easy to send an email and their response has always been within 24 hours and spot on!

Cons

Right now no option to cut and paste in to an Announcement. Not really a big issue, I simply post it to a file folder and refer employees there in the Announcement. Our benefits have a lot of options and right now it can't update all relevant options for us. But again, I have send a request to review and I'm hopeful I will be able to do it with our upcoming open enrollment!

Efficient vacation tracking, steamed lined the on-boarding process, and provided all the employees with an up to date contact list.

Pros

Very user friendly, can set up many different access levels, track a variety information, can customize it to fit your needs, the on-boarding checklist makes it simple to on-board people and you can assign tasks to different people in the company. There is a calendar that tracks everyone's vacation so you can tell who is out of the office at a quick glance.

We're currently using BambooHR in the office as our central HR system, and here is what i found.
we can see our co-employee information easily. it has request time off calculator so i can calculate how much is my days available to leave. the UI themes is not irritating your eyes too. And of course it has android app.

Cons

the android app is not good enough for me, but it is good to use. when you see Org chart, the chart is not easy enough to see.

The two most significant benefits I get from BambooHR: our staff feel supported & constantly aware of where they are from an HR perspective, and I have not had to hire someone to do the work that BambooHR does for me.

Pros

It's ease of use, user interface, constantly improving features, and the price. It hits the sweet spot for our organization on so many fronts. With 40 full-time and 40 part-time staff, and an Executive Director who handles all HR responsibilities, Bamboo is like having HR support staff doing all of the paperwork, communication, data and document management.

Easy to use, common sense, has everything I need and more. When we asked for Training, our Trainer was outstanding. We learned so much from him and the webinars, the service is incredible and always there for us. Great product, will never use anything else.

Cons

As we are a Canadian and American company, I can't connect Bamboo to my Canadian payroll. Other than that nothing.
