BambooHR is a cloud-based human resources (HR) software service for small and midsize businesses. BambooHR offers small and growing companies a human resource information system (HRIS) that includes an applicant tracking system (ATS) and HRIS tools to manage all aspects of the employee lifecycle.

BambooHR provides HR process automation tools that are accessible in several languages and multiple currencies. The platform allows HR professionals and managers to track organizational data such as employee turnover and retention.

BambooHR also provides customization services, multiple administrator seats, user support and the ability to maintain inactive employees. Administrators can provide access to all employees or limit access to only those in the company that need it.

Pricing is subscription-based depending on the number of employees plus a one-time implementation fee.

Overall, we've been happy with this ATS and onboarding. It has made our lives smoother for both the employer and employee (candidates too). It is scalable too, from small company to larger company.

Pros

The program is reasonably priced, easy to use, visually appealing, and frequently releases new features/updates for all components.

Cons

Customer care is harder to contact and usually only via email. Trainings are usually only offered one time/day each week which isn't usually ideal for meeting the needs of many customers.

Very easy to use and the employees can understand their side. Bamboo performance is good but could be better if it was available on the app for the employees to access more readily.

Cons

I would like to see the app more functional for the employees. Currently the app only shows people gone from work in there division but since our company is small we would like all employees to see time off across the board. This app is just a time off request app. Needs more functions for this. Online version is great but the functions employees need are performance and files to look up.
Access to performance assessments would be great on the app. Our employees work in an environment where computers are not readily available. We work in rooms where wash down is going on and in coolers and freezers. Phone apps work best for our company. This app is lacking in functionality.

Cons

The benefits portion was a little confusing at first, but once I figured it out (took about 20 minutes), it was a breeze. All you have to do is get a breakdown from you benefits provider of total contribution for employee and employer. Then when the calculations portion comes up under the benefits group, just go back to the excel spreadsheet that your benefits provided gave you and build a calculation then make sure the calculations match when you put them into the benefits group.

For example, at my company, we get paid every other week. For one plan, employees pay $650.15 and the employer pays $650.15, which equals a total cost of $1,300.30 per month. So in the plan portion, I would put the total cost as $1,300.30. Then I would add the benefits group and refer back to my benefit's provider spreadsheet. Under employer contribution it would be $650.15 and under employee contribution, it would be $650.15, so from there I would build a formula based up the amount of times we get paid in a year. Since at my company we get paid every other week, I know that there are 52 weeks in a year, therefore we have 26 weeks of pay, so the formula would be the amount of employee or employer contribution multiplied by 12 months to get the annual contribution. Then I would take the annual contribution and divide that number by 26 since we have 26 weeks of pay. In other words, for my company, the contributions are the same so both formulas would be =($650.15*12)/26 which comes to $300.07 with rounding. So I would go back to my benefit group and put in $300.07 for employee cost (every other week) and then $300.07 for employer cost (every other week).

I think this is a very small con and it has nothing to do with the software. I think if it was just mentioned in the training module, it would create less confusion. Either way, BambooHR is amazing!

I feel like they really try to save time for the recruiter and thought of things one step ahead. There are many capabilities that I haven't started to use yet but have been shown them. They have lots of tutorials and their customer support is very responsive.

Cons

So far so good. I really can't think of anything that I don't like about it. I would love to see them add an automated reference check to the system, but that's not super common anyway. They seem to be constantly improving the system and adding features.

Overall it has been a great experience, and has put much of the employee data entry/collection in the hands of the employees.

Pros

I loved the ability to have my employees e-sign various documents. It has streamlined our employee data collection and dissemination of important information in a timely manner. Both the web and app make it so easy for individuals to request time off.

Cons

I wish the app was a little more refined, I would like to see custom schedules included from which people could then request off.

BambooHR is a clean, simple, and easy-to-use product that does a great job of fitting the needs of SMBs. Anyone who has ever worked in either a paper-based or Excel-based setting will quickly appreciate the centralized data, terrific user interface, and (perhaps most of all) the self-serve aspects that allow employees to access the system on their own (e.g. vacation, sick days, training, etc.)

Cons

As a product, it is great - but the applicant tracking system (ATS) module wasn't one that we chose for our company based on our own personal preferences. The product can be considered to be a little more on the expensive side when compared side-by-side to other HRISs; but remember - you get what you pay for!

As an administrator, it is a wonderful tool. All the important alerts, email setting and reporting help me maximize the ease of HR matters.

Pros

Ease of use, intuitive, great customer support. I have asked a couple of special requests for our company and they took care of them quickly and efficiently.

Cons

Windows Phone is not supported. (which is pretty minor at this moment)
It requires good amount of learning for the administrators. I don't say it's con but everyone needs to prepare for the learning period.

Found this an excellent tool, especially after the "boil the ocean" feature set bloat of large corporate platforms. Good basic functionality as core HR, performance management, and basic people data. As we are growing quickly we are coming up against certain constraints that make a more robust system start to look appealing.

BambooHR has been really helpful in storing and reporting on employee information, giving employees access to view their benefit and personal information, and I can't rave enough about the Applicant Tracking feature. As a one person HR department, BambooHR has allowed me to become a strong, communicative and organized recruiter in the midst of the million other things I do. As I learn more about email alerts and forms, I'm finding more and more ways for BambooHR to support and automate processes that otherwise take up a lot of time and paper. I love that you constantly seek, and act on, customer feedback to make continuous improvements that are relevant to improving our day to day operations. I love that you are responsive to questions and patiently provide guidance and instruction on how to use features. I don't feel like I've purchased this software, and fell into a black hole. The Bamboo team is accessible and supportive, welcoming questions and feedback. I look forward to learning more about how I can use BabmooHR's current features, as well as waiting to see what new features and updates you'll roll out next. Happy Bamboo-ing indeed!

Pros

BambooHR's customer support is second to none. How they find such cheerful, helpful people, I don't know. They are happy to work with you to help you get the most out of the system. The system is user friendly and can be customized in a lot of ways. You can report on any information in the system, with easy to use standard reports, or you can create your own. They constantly add features and make improvements based on customer feedback. In some cases, they can make requested changes immediately. But they really seem to listen to what you want, and work to get there. Employees can see and request updates to their information, as well as complete & submit forms electronically. I'm able to create approval workflows to support many request processes, allowing us to become more automated and maintain files electronically, which we can then report on. I love the applicant tracking system. I think it's the strongest feature they have, allowing collaboration with hiring managers, as well as communication with candidates. It's helped me manage and improve our recruitment process with the click of a button. All candidate records are maintained in one place, and can be seamlessly on-boarded.

Cons

It is only as good as the data you enter, and does not currently integrate with the other systems we use. So, it requires constant data maintenance to keep employee information up to date, for effective reporting. There's no seamless automation for benefit enrollment. The time off system is easy to use, but does not currently show enough detail to be useful for our needs. I hope that BambooHR will focus on automating the integration of information from other systems, and provide a simpler update of benefit plan information at year end.

This product is very easy to use and easy to implement. I came into my company and they had no ATS or HRIS. I knew we needed something but wanted something that would be super easy for our staff while solving all of our problems. I saw 12 demos and talked with a lot of companies and BambooHR was the winner! We couldnt be happier with this product.

Cons

There are some features that BambooHR doesnt have yet. I know some of my "must haves" are coming soon so I do believe this con will work itself out.

I appreciate the interface of the system in terms of functionality. Customer service and financial adaptability have been incredible and have made the product available to our smaller organization. Jason at BambooHR was fantastic in initial discussions about the product. I have worked with paper trails for HR work in this organization for years and am so pleased to see how simple and effective our operations will become as a result of this software.

Cons

I have not yet found something I don't appreciate about this product. I did find that tracking time off will be more regimented than it currently is but this will likely be a beneficial feature in regards to long term operations as our organization continues to grow.

The after-sales service matters as much as the product itself.

It's pretty easy to use. Overall, the feedback from our team has been positive. I would love to be able to download a spreadsheet of all the applicants for a job posting as a starting point for screening candidates.

Cons

The after sales-service with billing has been frustrating! For awhile we had to correspond with a different person each time regarding the same issue. It's surprising that we have to explain to the accounting department of a global company how to properly apply a pre-payment against monthly invoices. They have been known to suspend our account over $200 balance less than 30 days overdue!

-Still have some features to work out for their recent product, BambooPayroll. Specifically, there is no malleable data extract available for payroll automatically. I'm currently having to work with them to create two custom reports for me. And I believe they will still be by payroll or by time frame upon request, not self-service run. I'm sure they'll continue to improve this, however, since they've rolled out many improvements since I've joined.
-Hiring portal could be improved, but it's great for what we need it for. Great product overall and wonderful service!

Easy to use and the help online is extraordinary! The on line videos and information is great and if you cant find what you need its easy to send an email and their response has always been within 24 hours and spot on!

Cons

Right now no option to cut and paste in to an Announcement. Not really a big issue, I simply post it to a file folder and refer employees there in the Announcement. Our benefits have a lot of options and right now it can't update all relevant options for us. But again, I have send a request to review and I'm hopeful I will be able to do it with our upcoming open enrollment!

Efficient vacation tracking, steamed lined the on-boarding process, and provided all the employees with an up to date contact list.

Pros

Very user friendly, can set up many different access levels, track a variety information, can customize it to fit your needs, the on-boarding checklist makes it simple to on-board people and you can assign tasks to different people in the company. There is a calendar that tracks everyone's vacation so you can tell who is out of the office at a quick glance.

We're currently using BambooHR in the office as our central HR system, and here is what i found.
we can see our co-employee information easily. it has request time off calculator so i can calculate how much is my days available to leave. the UI themes is not irritating your eyes too. And of course it has android app.

Cons

the android app is not good enough for me, but it is good to use. when you see Org chart, the chart is not easy enough to see.

The two most significant benefits I get from BambooHR: our staff feel supported & constantly aware of where they are from an HR perspective, and I have not had to hire someone to do the work that BambooHR does for me.

Pros

It's ease of use, user interface, constantly improving features, and the price. It hits the sweet spot for our organization on so many fronts. With 40 full-time and 40 part-time staff, and an Executive Director who handles all HR responsibilities, Bamboo is like having HR support staff doing all of the paperwork, communication, data and document management.

Pros

Choosing BambooHR as our HR management software is one of the best decisions I have made at my job. It is intuitive and simple to navigate for our employees, and provides me with a lot of valuable data about our employees/hiring etc. The built-in ATS is great and we have already hired a few employees through it. I've gotten great service from every BambooHR employee that I have interacted with, and can't say enough good things about it.

Ease of having all employee info at your fingertips; automating things like promotions & compensation changes; quick access to reports to provide information to higher-ups

Pros

Cloud-based HR database collects all your employee information in one spot; you can view contact information, personal information, job information, and employee documents all a mouse click away. Task lists and e-signed documents make it easy to keep track of what has been completed by who and what still needs to be done. Super robust reporting function for numbers nerds.

Cons

For some reason it doesn't automatically enroll full time employees into things like your PTO or benefits. Requires a high level of compliance by employees , otherwise things just don't happen. Only allows for 10 job postings before you have to upgrade, which means if you have several "always open" positions this is a problem.

Streamlined our onboarding process. Eliminated paper employee files.

Pros

There are many integration features. Very cool how open job postings are shared with Indeed and other job sites. There are built in auto-responses to applicants. Great to be able to upload and store training documents and also allow employees access to them so they don't have to constantly call HR for copies.

Cons

I wish it had an internal communication system - like e-mail. It would be nice to be able to have group conversations through the app/site itself.

Easier team management, tracking where and when my people are absent, easier hiring process, templates for appraisals or warnings.

Pros

Easy to use, user-friendly interface. Nicely ties with my email and send reminders when things are due. Great for monitoring your's team presence, keeping their files, even hiring or firing.

Cons

Email notifications are sometimes late, and it could cause confusion. It doesn't happen very often so it's nothing to worry about.

With international offices and remote workers the onboarding processes and tasks make it difficult to create specific lists with designated employees assigned to each task, the ATS does not provide enough functionality for what we need
