Bullhorn is a cloud-based applicant tracking and customer relationship management solution for small and midsize recruiting and staffing agencies. It offers email integrations, social media integration, reporting tools, mobile recruiting and passive activity tracking, and helps businesses manage contacts, track candidates, post job openings and fill open positions.

Bullhorn integrates with third-party email service providers such as Gmail and Outlook to send, receive and track communications. Users can view information about candidates from their inbox and access resumes, add notes, share details, create new tasks and schedule appointments. Bullhorn also integrates with LinkedIn Recruiter.

Bullhorn offers built-in reporting and analytics capabilities to help users track interactions with candidates. The configurable dashboard allows users to customize layout screens according to their preferences and helps to track business KPIs. Some of the additional features of Bullhorn are workflow management, job posting, mobile accessibility, social recruiting and data storage.

Cons

It is sometimes difficult to find a person if you do not know their last name. But worry not! You can search for a person by name, email, phone number, etc so this is not really that big of an issue!

Cons

Overall, Bullhorn has a great price point and helps me get those req's filled! Nothing fancy, but very effective.

Pros

I really love the way that I can track candidates against the req's that I am filling. I like that I can see the history of a candidate. I also like the distribution list for sales functions.

Cons

I feel like it is very specific to a contingency or staffing firm. We are a retained search firm and often I need to find workarounds in order to get an semi-accurate report on upcoming sales. I also think there are a lot of features that I don't use due to lack of training on them.

Tearsheets, match to jobs and revisit later, distribution lists, message templates, all things I use everyday. I like the dashboard and how you can tag a job, manager, vender, etc.

Cons

There's not a whole lot that I don't like. The candidate search function, I felt like was a little more friendly in a past version, but if things are documented correctly, it works great.

I would like to have the search function be more consistent and it would be great if the status would change back to active once a candidate's placement record has been closed out. We have to do that manually right now.

Pros

I love the import function from the applicants through Broadbean and ability to drop in a resume to populate the files. I love that it automatically documents the files to the candidates through linking the emails.

Cons

The search function is not consistent. If I do a search - "Project Manager" AND "Agile" ...it will give me anyone with these words in their files anywhere. Not both of them which is what I need but could be either or. Sometimes it just pulls up miscellaneous candidates that don't match at all.

Streamline. Everything you could possibly need is separated into customizable categories that have a running side tab that stays open until you decide to close it out. Everything communicates with one another, so the fact that you can post a job in your system and it will be published on your website immediately grabbed my attention. If you use ADP for payrolling then this will have you in staffing bliss! It is the Disneyland of ATS with the option of including their back office option.

Cons

If you are a small business needing multiple users, the price is a bit much. Whereas JobDiva and BambooHR would be cheaper per user.

Cons

Built-in reporting is non-existent with two addon options available, the first being a third party who can create reports for you, and another called Canvas - BullHorn's solution to the overall lack of reporting.

Cavnas:
Canvas is an in-house rebuild of Cognos Reporting suite however it has a lot of key features disabled, such as the ability for report creators to Cross-Join when required, edit SQL code to enforce certain report behaviour and some minor inconsistent functionality behaviour.
Any raised issues are handled well by our local AU support, however, the US Canvas development team are rarely able to provide long-term solutions.
As of 1/5/2017, I can't endorse Canvas as a complete or entirely functional product.

Training:
If you are moving from a system like JobAdder where the entire concept is around making the process as simple as possible and are making more fields mandatory, you'll need more than the basic BullHorn supplied training for your users to ensure the transition is smooth.

Data Display:
Some overarching data is unavailable in any form, such as "Last Contacted".
You can find "Last Note Added" and "Last Edited", however, neither of these take into consideration the Outlook Email integration they have in place. Which makes it difficult to determine the last time a contact was actually contacted in any way.
The solutions around this are poor.

I find it easy to use but neglect to use all the features it has to offer. ex: Your home menu option has 19 different choices you may select but I only really use 5-8 of them. Maybe a refresher on how these options can help me succeed in my role and the benefit of having it.

I must say, after using Bullhorn, my approach to my work has changed because of the way Bullhorn has helped me. It allows me to focus on the more important aspects of recruiting such as candidate engagement and finding quality candidates, understanding of job requirements, and closer coordination with our client engagement managers and staff. I can easily track communications, candidates, submissions, job status, and other details.

As a single proprietor, I was looking for a recruitment software and candidate management system that could safely store all my business data. Bullhorn certainly delivers on this front! It's an easy-to-use/user friendly software with great customer service to back it up. Unfortunately, monthly pricetag was a bit too steep for my budget, so I switched to a similar product offered elsewhere. I do recommend this product for businesses with 10-10,000+ employees who are looking for a cost-effective way to manage their recruitment process.

Cost adds up for a sole proprietorship

We have been using Bullhorn since 2006 and it has become a terrible product compared to what it once was. They have changed the product so much and have removed their integrated email and forced us to use a gmail product. Their searching capabilities have become pretty much useless.

Bullhorn provides a complete servicing platform for all stages of candidate recruiting. We are able to manage our client and candidate contact lists, our jobs, payroll, onboarding, and more.

Aside from minor window control and UI quirks, Bullhorn has few flaws.

With recent mergers, our company has experienced exponential growth during 2016. With that growth comes the challenge of integrating client and sales data, as well as candidate data. With Bullhorn, the integration was seamless. All of the data was easily uploaded into our established Bullhorn database and we experienced no downtime.

Pros

The integration. We are able to integrate third-party software into our platform which allows us to work from one tool. We save time and money as a result.

Cons

With so many features, the user interface can become cumbersome and imperfect.

Advice to Others

We've been very successful and have managed a great deal of growth with no hiccups as a result. I think you'll find this software will meet your recruiting management needs.
