Halogen is only good if you have a dedicated staff to manage and administer. It is very heavy on administration and requires a great deal of time. If your company does have a dedicated staff for appraisals, then you don’t need Halogen. They promised many things during the sales consultation. After signing up, a box full of large manuals came through. That was the first indication of the challenge using the software. After initial training, there is a lack of support. After repeatedly raising concerns for an SME, they repeatedly asked the same questions. No answers or support were given. Currently, they are not even answering customer emails. If they had an office in Hong Kong, our company would sue them for misrepresenting their services.
Has a good end-user interface and nice features. However, due to the burden of administration, it is difficult to see the positives.
Administration and support. There is a lot of time required to administer the system, so it does not cut down on staff time dedicated to appraisals (unless you are a larger company). Team support and response is awful. Technical support is very good. If you have a problem that technicians cannot answer, forget about getting any help.
If you are an SME, this software isn't for you as it is expensive, difficult to implement, and the company is unresponsive to problems.

Our organization has used Halogen TalentSpace for 9 years as our goal management, feedback and performance management solution. We also use the learning module for managing training. The system configuration is simple and building processes and forms is fun. You can use the solution for more than just performance reviews - we use it for compliance sign-offs, coaching, individual development plans, compensation management, and more. The best part about Halogen is the world class customer service - they are simply the best out there!
Easy to configure, great tools for Outlook users makes feedback simple and easy, can integrate with other applications. It's as complete a solution as you can have for managing HR programs that isn't an HRIS system.
It's not an HRIS or payroll system so you need to integrate it with your other solutions.
Utilize their customer success consulting services - they can really help you define your programs and build processes around them that make sense.

I like the fact that it's simple and straight forward (compared to other solutions that I worked with...). I have worked with other talent management systems in the past and it took me a lot longer to get familiar with how the system worked. I also like the fact that the vendor is very responsive and I never had to wait too long to get a straight answer to my questions.
I think the performance side could be improved specially when it comes to setting up goals and submitting them to the line manager. It should be more intuitive.
Create test accounts and play around as much as possible. You should be able to get a grasp after spending some time playing around with the solution.

Feedback. Managers and employees were keeping notes on their computer or at their desk to use in yearly evaluations. Feedback in Halogen allows them to keep that conversation of performance management going within the software year long and makes the evaluations easy.

They have top notch customer service and are always listening to their customers to improve the product. The administrative side is user friendly and not too hard to learn. Halogen works quite well for what we need it to do, and we are always brainstorming how we can better utilize it to improve processes in our organization.
I wish this was a "do-it all" enterprise type software. We currently have many different software solutions and it would be nice if Halogen could do them all!
I think it comes down to your needs and your budget. Halogen is an excellent software solution, but it is not an enterprise solution.

Halogen's software is very intuitive to use. We have been a user since 2008 and have seen considerable progress with the interface and system updates. They are forward thinking and update quite often. They also have a cornucopia of resources for talent management training and ideas. Customer support is awesome- they're always helpful, calm, and collected.
Not much to say here, we are a unique environment that sometimes reaches limits on what the system can do, however Halogen is always willing to assist with a solution.
For sure do your research. But you will be hard pressed to find an all encompassing tool as effective and easy to use as Halogen.

I enjoy working with this software because it is simple to use and any time I have a question, Halogen's Support Team responds quickly with the information that I request. Everyone I have worked with and spoken to have been friendly and very informative. I started in my position a year ago and was tasked with running a yearly appraisal process 2 months into my tenure. I was able to read the manual and develop the process very quickly and easily.
I don't like how the results are tied to a process, rather than a person. I've accidentally removed someone from a process and deleted their records because they're not tied to the individual.
If you have any questions, reach out to the support team. They're always there and always happy to help with any issues you have. Also, access the webinars and read through the manual. They both contain a lot of material that is helpful when using the software.

Halogen has an excellent staff all around including their terrific customer support team who is available 24/7!
Prior to using Halogen, I had no previous experience working with performance management systems but the implementation team was great and Halogen is so user-friendly that I was able to pick up on it quickly. It's a great system, especially the Performance module.
I also appreciate that you are assigned a continuous advancement consultant to assist with any post-implementation needs you have that are not appropriate to direct to their customer support team. Mine has been invaluable!
I love that they accept enhancement requests (and I've made plenty!), however it's a bit frustrating that there's no easy way to track the status of requests you've submitted so you've just left wondering if anything will ever come of them.
Test out the product beforehand and speak to current customers to get their perspective on it.

What's not to like? Amazing customer service, available at any time on any day! If we are in a sticky situation and require assistance, technical support is only a phone call or email away. We have had a seamless experience implementing this product.

It is a really cool LMS. There is a lot of flexibility to create whatever works for your organization. I think my favorite feature would be the feedback section. You can write comments about your direct reports and/or other employees in the organization. This feedback is attached to the employee's annual performance review.
With any system there are limitations, I would like the e-Recruit system to be more robust. The process to recruit and hire is junky. It looks like a lot more money goes into the Performance section than any other part of the system.
If you are interested in the product I would recommend testing the system out.. asking the sale reps to build you whatever you wanted in the process...

The customer service line is amazing. The team in Canada work 24 hours (which is very good when you are based in Australia on the other side of the world!) and they will always thoroughly run you through solutions for your questions and make sure your issue is fully resolved.

We have a very complex process and were very happy to find that Halogen was able to help us keep our current forms and processes. Our implementation team was very flexible and worked hard to find workarounds whenever we had an obstacle. Our CAM is very proactive about communicating with us and we enjoy working with the support people as well. I love the fact that the support team is available 24/7.
We did have some issues in that there were certain things that the system simply wasn't built to do. However, the implementation team was excellent and helped us find workarounds to accomplish what we wanted to do.
It's important to make sure that the vendor fully understands your expectations and is willing to work outside the box.

When trying to decipher what do we like best about the Halogen product & vendor, we found it difficult to just pick one thing. We could easily choose the installation process and how organized and seamless that went, which can be attributed to the knowledge and professionalism of our Implementation Consultant along with our Account Manager and certainly we have to acknowledge the World Class Support Team who without a doubt is second to none!
Currently there is nothing I could say that I don't like.
Having tested various LMS system over the course of 18 months, when it comes to efficiency, cost, reliability, and simplicity Halogen win hands down. In addition the current feedback from our team members indicates that Halogen has provided additional lines to encompass open communication between supervisors and employees, thus providing transparency of roles and responsibilities.
