Lever is a best-of-breed applicant tracking system suitable for companies of all sizes. Web-based and available worldwide, Lever features the ability to customize a job site, one-click sourcing, referral links, two-way email sync and more to help streamline recruiting efforts.

The candidate pipeline is customizable and provides insight into where applicants are dropping off in the process, while Gmail and Outlook calendar integration allows for interview scheduling.

Anyone can use it - recruiting is one of the largest challenges that an early startup faces, so being able to quickly train anyone to use the product was huge for us.
The interface is clean and easy to navigate
Tracking clients and communicating with clients is a breeze

Cons

Without a Google account some of the integrations are limited or require more involved work to get email and calendar integration working.

Overall, this is a great software that continues to release new things - both big & small - to improve the workflows for its users! The team is dedicated to improving recruiting & company culture. At the very least, subscribe to their emails for some thoughtful content!

Pros

-First off, the sales & implementation teams are fantastic. I had a great experience during the sales process (which is why I chose them over Greenhouse) & Customer support representative from implementation (customer success) has continued to be a trusted partner even post-onboarding.
-It's relatively easy to set up & manage ongoing updates. I pretty much built the entire thing when we switched from Jazz. While I have an implementation background, I'm no engineer, so kudos for making it easy to manage.
-Hiring managers love it - esp. product & engineering!
-The email templates are a life-changer.
-The sync with Google calendar for rooms & availability is also a life-changer.

Cons

While overall, it's a fantastic product, there are a few very nitpicky items I'd love to see modified down the road:

-More customization for job posts; there are a couple standard fields you can't change.
-Ability to sort applicants by certain criteria, i.e. if they included a cover letter or link to portfolio.
-Permission levels with more "pick & choose" customization.
-Changing interview times, teams, and feedback forms could be easier.
-Option to save commonly used filters -- for a super admin with access to all reqs, it can be a tad overwhelming, but I've hacked a good process with bookmarks!

I like Lever in general, somewhat expensive, but good feature integration with email and calendars. Easy to use, though some functionality still suffers. Overall I'd say 3.5-4 stars out of 5. Especially considering I have never created an ATS and likely don't know what kind of effort is required to have some of these features corrected.

Pros

UI is nice, scheduling, manager/candidate/recruiter communication platform, customization of stages and email templates. Candidate categorization ...it's a great platform for less technical roles and if you have all the questions, feedback forms, and email templates in place it works well. The feedback reminders can be a good thing, but like any good thing, too much of a good thing can become a bad thing.

Cons

Adding feedback takes a few additional steps if not there, very manual process if the right feedback is not attached. Should be allowed to add feedback straight from that area, instead you have to click buttons or add a note.

The best thing is their customer service! I must email them every other day with a question or suggestion, and they are so responsive. I receive a response usually within an hour or so, and they'll email back and forth with me to problem solve anything I'm running into, or offer workarounds if the platform doesn't do what I'm asking and pass the suggestion on. It also integrates nearly seamlessly with Gmail and Google calendar and makes it very easy for me to communicate with my hiring managers.

Cons

I wish there were a mobile app and a few more pieces of it were customizable (but they are still developing it and in the short time I've used it more of it has become this! I imagine it will continue to improve).

We selected our ATS primarily on User Experience and Cost. We shortlisted Greenhouse and SmartRecruiters and went with Lever.
This is a candidate centric system, focused on user experience. Having used a number of large tier 1 systems which are clunky, unable to integrate with third parties (or make it difficult), it has taken some getting used to but I LOVE IT.

Pros

Lever is so easy to use. Our hiring managers jumped straight in with little to no training and are engaged in the recruitment process.
Lever Nuture has allowed me to increase reach out email response rates by at least 50%. The ability to personalise and automate emails is a time saver and provides for an awesome candidate experience.
Customer Service is excellent, responsive and sets realistic expectations.
From a recruiters perspective it is easy to move through the platform, screens aren't cluttered, minimal clicks and loads of integrations with other API's.
Very patient team. We've had a few changes in the team and Lever Support and Customer Success has been extremely helpful in reptition of training in short time frames.

Cons

We're based in Australia and unfortunately by the time a ticket is responded to it is a day later. If the response is not clear or not what we were looking for, then we wait for another day.
Reporting is challenging due to the seperation of Requisition Reports (Lever Intelligence) and Job Postings. Manager dashboards do not provide the transparency required (based on what our business wants to see). Should have customisable dashboards. We have a decentralised model where Head of Engineering for example can't see Engineering roles as they directly report into a Product Team. It's not easy to customise, and quite difficult to understand.

Strong ATS Platform

Lever is the 7th ATS that I have used professionally and I have demoed many others, it is one of the best out there. We went through our selection process a year ago and ended up demoing 13 ATS providers and they were the best for our needs. We couldn't be happier with Lever and plan on being a long-time customer.

Pros

-Great UI/UX-very intuitive and easy to use
-Good tracking capabilities: Can create unique URLs, each employee has a unique social/employee referral link, you can drop a Google Analytics tag, and can embed tracking pixels
-Easy to get buy-in across the organization
-Adds efficiency to the recruiting team saving recruiters and coordinators time in our day to day. We had to do a ton of manual work with our last ATS.
-High engagement: Many of our team members weren't a big fan of our previous ATS and now they have turned into power users
-Chrome Extension and integrations with other sourcing tools to be able to easily import candidates into Lever to manage the pipeline
-Gmail and Google Calendar integration so you can do everything from one platform and not have to continually go back and forth when communicating and scheduling candidates
-They are continually upgrading their software as we have been a customer less than a year and have seen many new beneficial releases
-Have a CRM product(Lever Nurture)
-Great support from initial contact through implementation
-During the sales process, they really took the time to understand our business and recruiting processes
-Easy to create customized reports
-Tons of partner integrations
-Streamlined and easy implementation process

Cons

-Doesn't have automated social referral distribution. Employees can't schedule their job posts via social, they need to do it manually each time through Lever.
-They don't have Live Chat for customer service
-When setting up your job application, if you choose to have a resume as required then the 'Apply with LinkedIn' is pointless. If they 'Apply with LinkedIn' then they still need to upload a resume. Unfortunately, 'Apply with LinkedIn' doesn't cover the resume requirement.

Lever is a great tool that is allowing our company more flexability in their recruiting processes than ever before. Their customer support is outstanding. They work hard with you to understand your requirements and then implement what you asked for or explain why the software can't do it the way you would like.

Cons

Which brings me to the one flaw with the product - if you have requirements that are not in the current software capabilities, they must go through an evaluation by Lever to decide if they should be added to its implementation roadmap at some point down the line. So be careful during the selection process to make sure that everything that is a high priority requirement for you can be handled by the current version of the software.

Great feature offering such as email integration, send on behalf of, reporting with click down features into number, and the chrome extension

Cons

The email integration does not work well... continually pulls in the wrong email threads into candidate profiles, and also uploads wrong contact info and even files!! The data changes and is not accurate, and we tested this a few times. To have key data changed, we have to contact support to have them change it. Very weak compatibility with Outlook/Windows and when calendar invitations are sent out, the wrong time continually presents itself on the invitations. Also, too many .png files are pulled into a candidate profile (a result of the email integration) which ends up crowding up the candidate profile and key files are hard to find as a result.

I really appreciate all of the help and support I (we) get from the Lever team. The trainings, resources and ticketing system has been extremely helpful. The system has provided us with a lot of functionality that we have never had before. We are able to track all of the activity on each candidate in one place, comments, notes, emails, feedback, and ratings. This has also allowed us to be truly compliant with our recruiting process.

- Candidate focused - all communications with the recruiting team, hiring teams, scheduling interviews, and feedback are all automated through Lever. There are no manual processes!
- An adaptable system that you can make what you want/need out of it.

Cons

- Doesn't fully integrate with Outlook which has caused some minor inconveniences e.g. our outlook calendar invites that are sent from the system don't have reminders automatically set in them (15 minute warning prior to interview) and our interview team has to manually delete them off their calendars if an interview is cancelled.

Great product - have not regretted our move. We're hiring faster than ever, and the company seems much more aligned in hiring.

Pros

- From the very beginning, Lever was high-touch and hands on with their implementation. This made what I thought would be the hardest part of the process very easy.
- Great UI, very intuitive. Far easier to get hiring managers to use a product that operates so easily.
- Built for collaboration. The product makes gathering feedback very simple and with customized feedback forms, it saves a lot of time--no longer are we chasing people around to get feedback. Candidates are much more satisfied.
- Open to suggestions. We've had issues or requests with the product that Lever has been very receptive to. I love that we can look forward to a constantly improving product.

Cons

- Reporting can be a bit limiting, but that comes with the territory when you have a product that is this easy and intuitive.
- Scheduling through Google Calendars (as some competitors do) would be a really nice plus.

Cons

The data seems very unreliable. We get different numbers for the pipeline. There is not enough granularity for our metrics, we have to do most reports for our exec team manually.

I have 17 years recruiting experience and have founded two recruiting firms, consulted for 5 startups in building the recruiting function, and now manage a talent acquisition team for a startup within a Fortune 30 company. I have used most of the major (and some unknown) Applicant Track Systems (Bullhorn, Jobvite, Maxhire, PCRecruiter, SmartRecruiters, to name a few) and none of them help move the pipeline and surface old candidates as well as Lever. Excellent product!

Pros

The ease of use if off the charts. The pipeline-centric UI makes the product very usable with little or no training.

Cons

The user permissions are a bit more complex than they need to be. The job posting service is decent, but could be improved to bring more traffic.

The UI is super intuitive. The learning period for comfortably navigating the system and time to value was minimal. This has been a great tool for our team and even better for our hiring managers who are loving the new system.

Cons

The only con I can think of is the scheduling feature. You have the ability to check your employee's availability on their calendar and it is not the most intuitive. However, Lever recognizes this and is working to make it better.

Housing referrals, applicants, and sourced candidates all in one place. Not having to engage with multiple systems to accomplish keeping track of top talent is incredibly valuable in recruiting. The "snooze" button is a fave functionality for staying in touch with pipeline talent.

Cons

It can get complicated, for an easy system, when candidates apply to multiple positions and turning them down for one but not all roles.

Lever has such a clean, user-friendly design. The integrations are so simple and the functionality is intuitive. The customer service is top notch- Diana and team were incredible during and after our implementation. It was a fantastic experience.

Cons

There is no "to-do" or task function so it's not easy to set reminders to follow-up in the tool. The user roles are rigid and the lack of ability to export even limited data unless you are the super admin is hampering in some cases (when dealing with high volumes especially). Same for reporting - would love to be able to export reports or view more reports without changing overall roles.

That I have everything in one place. I see the whole conversation on e-mails (good integration with Google) and comments about the candidates. The Hiring Managers don't come to me and ask about the candidate but goes to LEVER and see the whole candidate process.

Cons

That not everything was easy at first and is not intuitive for example: giving notes. Also about statistics LEVER does not show how many people open and see the job posting.

We wanted something that could be implemented quickly and easily, it was also important that the price made sense for the value. We¿ve found that the system is intuitive and allows us to keep track of candidates in an organized way. Lever has provided all of this.

The UI is intuitive. The learning period for comfortably navigating the system and time to value was minimal. This has been a great tool for our team and even better for our hiring managers who are loving the new system.

Cons

Some of the UI decisions are odd. It took me a long time to figure out how to set up default feedback forms, for example.

Small thing... the way we setup running projects (part of our interview project) could be a little better... basically it is setup as though project completion is an interview... this gives a deadline and starts prompting the engineer to provide feedback, but it would be better if you could see "Project start date" Project End Date" and duration of project

Integrated place where my colleagues and I can keep track of candidates. Also love form emails! Sign up process was amazing as they tutor you as well as customizing the software. Have saved many hours because of Lever!

Cons

Have to pay substantial premium for certain integrations. However, basic Lever is great and sufficient for most uses.

EVERYTHING about leading a talent function is easier with Lever.

Pros

The ability to easily implement and adopt this software was critical and a major reason we decided on Lever. Given company wide adoption was necessary for our new ATS, ensuring we found something that everyone from Talent to Engineering, and everything in between would be comfortable with was key. Lever makes it easy for everyone, at all different levels, to get value from the platform. Since adoption, the participation around recruitment activity such as referrals and interview feedback has dramatically increased.

Cons

It honestly becomes a bit difficult for me to think of a true "con" to this software. Anytime there has been an update or new feature that i thought wasn't the right way to go, I've been completely wrong. The Lever team listens to their customers, understands our needs, and delivers on it before we even have a chance to know it was something that needed to be fixed. If I REALLY had to think of something, it would be that I can't group my users by team in administrative settings. It would be great to search by team/group vs. name.

Simple, intuitive and easy to setup. We went from managing all our candidates in our inboxes, which inevitably meant we dropped some balls and didn't create the best experience for people that wished to work with us. Lever was setup in short order and immediately brought organization to a chaotic and overwhelming process. A couple of months in and I'm still really enjoying how it's streamlined our recruiting and hiring process.

Cons

Would love to see a bit more color in the app - sometimes all the greyscale feels a bit dry and lifeless. Great UI and UX but would love some more color!

Unfortunately the frustrations outweigh benefits with Lever. Too many functinoal and data flaws.

Pros

Features that get folks excited like the chrome extension, email integration (files from emails are auto uploaded with this integration).

Cons

Too many functional flaws. Wrong emails and contact information are pulled into the wrong candidate profiles. The data is not trustworthy and very concerning. Compatibility with Windows is very weak/poor. Very difficult to build candidate pipelines, and not much capabiility to customize.

Very collaborative, great reporting, offers my execs & staff a very transparent look into our pipeline.

Pros

Set up just works. Integration with email & calendar & Slack are as simple as one click. The UI is very intuitive and easy to navigate. Very easy to find what you want and understand your next steps. Clearly built from the ground up with collaboration in mind- very easy to chat with coworkers and hiring managers and share thoughts on candidates. And all backed by a world class customer support & success teams. One of the best onboarding experiences I've never had.

Cons

The color scheme is almost too minimalist- a few more pops of color here and there might not go amiss. That's about it. I've been through 3 ATS implementations in the past 5 years and this is the only system I want to use for the rest of my career. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

I love its seamless integration with the tools we most use--Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack, Abacus, and Docusign. It has made our entire hiring process more seamless as a result.

For applicants, it provides a more professional, personalized (if templated!) experience than what our young company had previously afforded.

For our People Operations department (of one) it has vastly improved our organization of resumes. Previously, I received from multiple sources (hand-delivered resumes, forwarded emails of resumes, dozens of job boards) often receiving resumes from people who were not directly involved with the hiring process. Lever has helped keep the channels of communication open between varying levels of involvement, equipping team members to track at the distance that makes the most sense for them.

Furthermore, it has renewed energy throughout the company regarding our democratic hiring process. It is helpful that all team members can refer candidates more easily to the wider team, and that they can see all of their feedback forms/interviews in once place. The Slack reminders regarding feedback prove helpful since so much of our work is carried out via Slack.

I also very much enjoyed the implementation process with Phil. He made clear that there is no dumb question. He was consistently friendly, and empathetic when there were obstacles in the implementation. He had a great way of allowing me to train by doing instead of training by sight.

Cons

I look forward to the tool having more options in terms of auto-text/mail-merge. For example, it would be great if email templates had some options for dates and times. I also wish that it were possible to add multiple locations to a particular posting. I created a location called "Multiple Locations," but it'd be nice to have more specific cities listed. Perhaps I'm missing something though and this is an option. I'm still very young in my use of this tool.

I also wish that the workflow process could be manipulated by super admins. If ever we need to make an edit to the workflows, we will need to contact Lever's support team. I have no doubt they will be responsive. I simply wish we were empowered to customize this ourselves as needs change. It'd be great if each department could customize their own flow for their different hiring processes.

Also, the cost was nearly prohibitive for our small company. I was glad that the team worked with us on this. I trust that if we can expand its use across departments (instead of the initially approved Client Success team), the company will see its full value. Right now it's a bit costly for our 1-person People Ops 'team' in its primary focus on Client Success hires. I think to get full use out of this platform, we would need a full-time recruiter--possibly using the Teamable and LinkedIn Recruiter integrations that Lever affords.

Lever is a great, flexible ATS. It's a candidate centric software, meaning it focuses on candidate first over individual jobs. You can add the same candidate to multiple roles and compare them across multiple roles. This is what I like most about Lever.

In addition many features are very intuitive - for example I like that drop down menus also become type-able so you don't have to scroll through a lot of option.

Little details like this make Lever a joy to use! It's great for growing organizations with 5-55 roles open! :)

We had spreadsheets and emails before Lever. As our company continues to grow, we recognized that we needed a solution. TGI Lever! The platform is super intuitive and has made a vast improvement in our organizational abilities.

Plus, their customer service throughout the implementation process was above and beyond expectations. Extremely impressed! Shout out to Elisa who answered literally every question I had.

Cons

email feed is not always in chronological order, difficult to work with recruiter who doesn't have company email address

The pipeline-centric product was very intuitive, came with great functionality, including Google/ Slack/ DocuSign integration. Love the UI, easy to follow/ track our job postings and candidates. We have a very small recruiting team, Lever really made a huge difference to the way we manage the candidate journey. Bonus: Excellent sales and customer support team, it's always a joy to work with them!
