We currently use the Paychex Flex system for everything (Payroll, HR, Onboarding, ATS)

Pros

The Onboarding and HR side of things aren't too bad. The forms and templates available for use on the HR side is a nice feature to have.

Cons

Not very easy to customize. System is clunky and not the most user friendly.

I like Paychex because we deal locally one on one with your representatives. Overall it is a product I would recommend with comments.

Pros

Set up was painless, payroll reports post quickly, employees can easily pull up their pay information online which saves me time. I have good communication with the local representatives.

Cons

In a short period of time there were several mistakes made which affects the bank account because there are several entries that need to be made for the same payroll period when a mistake is made. I was surprised that Paychex does not pull burden rate reports at the touch of a button. This almost cost Paychex our account. There are too many Paychex representatives dealing with the same account.

As much as I would like to write something positive about this product, it really is hard too. The only positives are the people that are assigned to the account. I like who I work with.
The product is another story. We have timekeeping associated with Paychex Flex and we have an issue with an employee every single day. Often times they cannot get in to clock in, lunch out, lunch in or clock out. Sometimes it's all time punches, sometimes it's one. There are times when the system just won't let you in period. Calling in for assistance, of late, the wait is about 5 minutes, but have been on hold for over 30 minutes. The reports, that's another story, the way it's sorted, it's sometimes hard to figure out where to go to get a report. The one thing that drives me nuts, is creating a report. I don't think you can do an ad hoc report.

Pros

It's easy to use

Cons

You name a problem and I've probably had it with this system. I've had out IT and Paychex IT on the phone, we made the fixes they suggested and the issues reoccurred.

We have used Paychex flex and found its features to be pretty streamlined and basic yet get the job done for a small company. The services have been very affordable so we have stuck with it. The customer service is lacking and we have issued a new payroll specialist on a regular basis.

Pros

recently updated platform, affordability

Cons

limited features, customer care and representation challenges

I have been enrolled with and paying for Paychex Flex for months. The customer service is horrible. I have even made attempts to contact a supervisor several times with No return call until I called another supervisor and requested a number for the regional manager. The person who was appointed to me rarely returned my calls and during our last conversation, I explained all the problems I was experiencing and he informed me that he was leaving the position and he would notify the replacement person of my problems, so they can be addressed and corrected. TO THIS DATE, I have heard from no one. I have been enrolled for a few months and still have to call the payroll clerk to submit the hours. This system is only a punch clock for us.....nothing else. Due to their follow-up, the lack their of and all of the problems I am experiencing with the system itself....I would not recommend. Once my schedule slows down, I will be researching other services and terminating Payflex. Sorry to be so direct.....bit it is all TRUE.

Pros

Employees can only clock in at designated areas.

Cons

Horrible customer service.
System does not track location of employee.
Employees have problems clocking in often.

Advice to Others

Do your research and choose another company

Paychex Flex is like the opposite of Zenefits: it's almost impossible to do anything online on the app, so you pretty much run your entire Payroll and Benefits functions through people with email and phone calls.

For example, there's no way to track PTO/sick days -- you just have to make the entry for PTO when you're running payroll. You can't track new hire documents (like I9s or employee handbooks), so you need to do that outside of Paychex. You can't even get a quote for benefits without manually collecting several pieces of information about each employee and emailing that information to your HR account manager, who is separate from your payroll account manager.

I'd say our experience has been mixed and far from smooth, but overall we've been able to run payroll and administer benefits adequately.

Pros

-Good customer support. Their account managers really take a lot of the burden off you when it comes to running payroll and figuring out benefits administration. And whenever something goes wrong, they bend over backward to make it right.
-Competitive rates
-Running wage garnishments is automatic, there are resources for disputing UI claims, and regulatory compliance matters are handled largely by Paychex

Cons

-The Very involved process to get started. We were missing features online that we were supposed to have for weeks or months from pure oversight.
-Running payroll yourself is very complicated using Paychex Flex. So you have to do it via email/phone, which has almost led to our payroll not running on time on several occasions.
-Running reports is sometimes impossible without Paychex's support -- they have to manually run some reports for you.
-You have to track pretty much all HR-related tasks yourself: keeping track of documents, time off, setting up new hires with Paychex (there's no self-serve system online for new employees), etc.

Advice to Others

Get access to a demo account and actually test the products yourself first. Try ADP, Paychex, Heartland, and Zenefits, but try using them yourself before you decide.

Great people work at Paychex. The back side looks very helpful to payroll and for planning. Implementation of time and attendance has been a nightmare. But we are hopeful that it will get a lot better.

Pros

Payroll processing has become a lot simpler and less stressful for our Finance staff.

Cons

Punching in and out/ correcting time cards has been a complete nightmare for our hourly staff.

Advice to Others

I would not recommend paycheck. Paycheck takes very long to load. There are too many tabs/ or links to click on to get to your actual time clock. It often does not work or is down. Leaving many time clock corrections for the manager and sometimes times are overlooked if there are so many employees and there are so many time clock corrections that have to be made due to the system being down.

The software is easy to understand and navigate. Implementation specialists are very good, they have a sense of urgency that keeps you on track. Reports are good, with many being customizable. Some glitches with the digital time clock, however, Paychex was quick to respond with a replacement.

Pros

All inclusive, easy to use

Cons

Speed; There is always a con - 401K catch-up up is a manual transaction as an eligible employee crosses over the 18k limit.

Advice to Others

No payroll/HRIS system is perfect. Perform your due diligence wisely.
