While Paycor is best known for its payroll software, Paycor’s Perform is an integrated software suite that offers functionality that encompasses the entire employee life-cycle. This system is difficult to use and is plagued with programming errors. Edits change data on subsequent lines. Cannot seem to edit data from reasonable human error. Defaults are irrational.
i.e. 8:00 punch in followed by 2:00 punch out will default to 2 AM punch out crediting 18 hours of pay.
Very immature design. Could not pass any quality test I have been involved with

This product has many features that are fantastic, but as a new user (less than a year), I am still surprised on a regular basis by what it cannot do. There are many basic features that are illogical. New Hire documents can be uploaded to a library and included in the New Hire Onboarding process. Fantastic! There is no way to control the order in which the New Hire reviews those documents. New Hires onboard using their personal email address because they don't have a work email yet. Later, during a Benefit Open Enrollment, notifications can't be directed to their work emails but goes to their personal email address. A New Hire becomes active as soon as they complete the onboarding process, not on their Hire date. We found that out by paying a New Hire early. The custom template of instructions for Benefit Onboarding can't be saved; it has to be entered every time an Event is created. We have also had great difficulty with support. Lots of "We're sorry" and "You were dropped through the cracks". We have also been told, more than once, that it is our responsibility to make sure something is working the way it should. As a new user, we can't know what we don't know! Paycor isn't ready for prime time with this.

Pros

Payroll, Benefits and HR are connected and changes in any field updates across the modules (assuming it has been set up correctly). Employees can update much of their personal and payroll information themselves, saving the Administrator time. Onboarding of a New Hire works very well and not having all that paperwork in a file is terrific. If you get support rep on the phone, they are fantastic to help.

Cons

Paycor frequently directs the user to their Knowledge Base, which is extensive. So extensive that it's nearly impossible to sort through it looking for an answer to the question at hand. The reporting feature is the same way. Hard to find what you need and tough to create what you need. Their support is less than impressive. Implementation was not well directed, mistakes were made by Paycor and by us due to lack of guidance from Paycor. Once active, support has been inconsistent. We are frequently surprised to find what should be a simple task is not even possible. Implementation of improvements is slow to appear. The parts that work well are impressive, but overall we have been less than pleased and very frustrated.

I tested this software as a substitute of Paychex. Paycor provides integrations with 401(k) providers that ensure employees’ deductions are properly sent to the provider. It streamlines the process and allows employers the opportunity to choose the provider that will give the best plan to their employees. They also empower employees and managers to maintain their personal and team information from anywhere with an internet connection. Each team member will have a login that will allow them to make their own elections creating an easier, paperless, open enrollment process

Pros

Paycor’s Applicant Tracking Solution allows its users to post jobs, review resumes and approve or deny hiring within one application. Workflows send notifications to recruiters, hiring managers, and even candidates. It paints a picture of where every candidate is within the hiring process. It also provides analytics to help get rid of bottlenecks within each hiring step.

Cons

Paycor does not help manage HIPAA Compliance, Recruitment, and State Unemployment Insurance as a part of their human resource database. They also have a limited benefits packages when compared to their competitors. They only cover 401k and Medical Insurance while leaving off other vital plan options like Dependent Audit, FSA, HRA, Life Insurance, Premium Only Plan, SIMPLE IRA… etc.

Paycor Needs Streamlining/Newton ROCKS!

We have been using Paycor for about a year now. The ease of use is okay, but the product needs streamlining. All functional areas have limitations and feature enhancements are slow in coming.

Pros

NEWTON (applicant tracking) rocks! Newton is definitely the best feature of Paycor by far! Newton is an extremely state of the art product and feature enhancements happen constantly to keep up with the demands of hiring.

Cons

No geo fencing
No workforce scheduling
Time and attendance is very manual, often times quirky and labor intensive but not all bad once all the data entry is done!
PTO is shown in different ways in different areas of the product, needs to be more consistent as it gets confusing seeing different PTO amounts.
Supervisors don't get consistent PTO notifications via email
Need to enter same info in multiple areas which gets tedious and time consuming.
Reporting is doable, but clunky as is FMLA tracking
Implementation was driven on a schedule basis vs the implementers understanding the needs of the business
Limitations are acknowledged by product reps, but feature enhancements are slow to happen.
Reps don't "own" their customers, they are very transactional so building a relationship is hard.

Advice to Others

Paycor is a solid basic product for smaller companies, but needs streamlining and product/feature changes need to happen faster like they do on the Newton side. Newton is definitely worth your while!

We had a rough start with Paycor, a lot of things did not work out as expected and we ran into a few issues, but once we got worked through them, things have been better and smooth.

Lots of glitches, we receive delinquent notices from state for our employer taxes regularly.

Advice to Others

Be sure to take your time when implementing onto Paycor, things can easily be missed and cause bigger issues down the road

Initially it was confusing setting up multiple employee's but after a supervisor intervening the process went very smoothly. Very easy to use and can be accessed ffrom any where.

They seem to be attentive when an issue is brought forward.

The system is not built to connect to other systems with much ease. It feels it definitely is built to tailor to the payroll needs and not to the HR side of the house.

Recommendations

Look closely at the functionality and if you are truly looking for an enterprise wide system, this is probably not the best option.

Fairly inexpensive, very easy to use, good customer support team, reporting feature is great!

They are based on the East Coast and have had real difficulties in implementing CA state specific laws, their IT support seems to be lacking and I've had issues that still recur and don't seem to get resolved

Recommendations

If you're doing business in California, I'd definitely go with a vendor that's compliant with CA laws and regulations. Larger vendors may be more fancy, but are almost always more expensive and your staff may not be savvy enough to use some of the more technical features. Sometimes, simple is good!

nothing it's a horrible system. I would not recommend this to anyone. I really can't think of one thing that is a positive.

there is very little customer service, there are limited customization options, system is unreliable regarding accuracy. we have spent countless hours trying to fix system issues. This system can't even track time off properly for our employees.

Recommendations

It's probably best to keep with smaller companies. Paycor doesn't seem to be able to service larger employers.

Nothing, it is a great HR & Payroll resource. There is nothing to dislike about this product. It was easy to learn, when I came to ClaimAid, I had 20 years of HR / Benefit experience and little payroll experience. The Paycor team helped me learn the processes, and within 3 cycles, I became proficient.

As I am learning to navigate throughout the program, I am finding that I need less clicking to retrieve the information I am looking for. Paycor has always been a proactive and efficient payroll company!

I find as I am scrolling through the employee list quickly I have to wait a couple seconds for the list to catch up. Very minor issue, though always being a hurry it would be nice it could react faster.
As for what I like least with Paycor, I have been asked that many times and I truly have no issues with their processes or customer service!

The product has a clean look, and it is easy to find information. The vendor is very helpful as we explore functionality.

More integration with other modules needed for better reporting out of the different Paycor applications in a single report. New code set up could also be a bit more user friendly. The different modules also require different support person for each one.
