QuickBooks Full Service Payroll Software

QuickBooks Full Service Payroll from Intuit is a web-based payroll system that integrates with the QuickBooks accounting platform. It is designed to help small businesses manage accounting and payroll all in one place.

Users can manage employee profiles to determine such things as pay rate, pay schedule and method of payment. Payroll can then be reviewed and submitted at any time, accompanied by detailed reports showing total payroll cost, pay compared between periods and cost breakdowns between wages and taxes, and between employer and employee. The option to print pay stubs is also available.

Behind the software is Intuit’s team of U.S.-based payroll experts, who can handle payroll setup, tax filing (federal, state and local) and tax payments. Accuracy is guaranteed, so if an issue arises, Intuit will act as representation to the IRS. All of this functionality carries over to the Online Payroll mobile app, which is available on iOS and Android devices.

Overall a good product. Missing some much needed features as mentioned above. Please bring back the ability to mail customer invoices.

Pros

QB software makes it easy and quick to access customer files, contact information, and notes. It's compatibility with right networks makes access from any computer easy.

Cons

Can no longer mail invoices to customers and could never mail estimates to customers. Can no longer create sales orders. The ipad app needs a lot of work. It is not easy to use. Need to bring back the mobile smart phone access and ability to take customer payments over mobile smart phone.

access for different steps could be set where you can view them as on a desktop version

Pros

The client and the bookkeeper and accountant can view the accounts. Access by all is very inportant.

Cons

The assess sites are not easily seen as on the desktop version I have been used to the desktop version and the online version you have to go to one place to find the access to where you need to be.

QuickBooks & QuickBooks Payroll Full

Ease-of-use

Value for Money

Do not purchase unless you have the money to invest in only QuickBooks materials and pay big annual renewal fee's.

Pros

It was not to hard to set up and enter data. I would not recommend this product based on support and fee's charged.

Cons

I could not print checks or W-2's without purchasing them from Quicken direct. I purchased checks and W-2's from an "Office" store and they could not print on them direct from QuickBooks. The QuickBooks checks and W-2's were way more expensive and not worth the added expense. I found software and did the forms by hand a lot cheaper. I also bought a hard copy of the software so I would not have to pay monthly or annually for updates my small business does not need. I do not need online access. After the first year QuickBooks Payroll Full stopped working and when I called they said I need to pay certain amount for annual renewal to use the program. That is not worth it for my small business. I do not feel I should need to pay for a program I purchased already. It also does not link up or updated with my bank so I have to load everything manually. It should work like Mint which does link up with my bank account. I would not purchase this program again under it's current working platform.

Customer service has been excellent. They bend over backwards to assist in any way they can online or by phone. It is pretty easy to get through to a real person to help you through whatever problem you might be having. They are still developing this product and take customer feedback seriously.

Pros

The ability to access it on any computer. It's much less expensive than the desktop version with multiple licenses.

Cons

After using Quicken for many years and some Quickbooks desktop this is different. It has been hard for me to get used to and find the information they way I want it. It tries to do a lot of the thinking for you and in many cases is not correct. Changes and updates are made without much notification. Opening in the desktop app version doesn't work very well. You get a skewed vision of the page i.e. the "Save" button is buried under the toolbar and there was no way to adjust the view. I struggled with that for about 2 months before they told me to use the desktop sign in which corrected the issue.

I hope that they add the futures discussed in the "Cons" including an option for figuring prorated charges.

Pros

The product is easy to use and can track both incoming and outgoing transactions. This is great for people who are just starting because it tracks everything all in one.

Cons

Lack of functionality. 1. Recurring transactions will send sales receipts even if the credit card is declined. 2. Does not send past due reminders automatically. 3. Unable to apply late fees automatically. All of these is something we hope they add.

Overall quite satisfied.

Pros

Love the simplicity of adding/editing invoices. Very user-friendly. I like that you can have an accountant check what you are doing, making sure things are correctly being done. If not, it is qaught before it bacomes a major task to correct.

Cons

Would like to have more video tutorials dealing with industry specific questions. The dashboard is easy to understand but would like to customize more to what my specific needs are.

QB Online - good value for small business

Ease-of-use

Value for Money

This is the perfect software for the trades. Contractors such as electricians, plumbers, small builders etc. will get their money back multiple times by seeing where the revenue is coming from and expenses are going. Perfect for small bookkeeping services who handle these types of accounts.

Pros

The pros are:
- ease of use for non-accounting skilled business owners.
-basic profit & loss, balance sheets, and customizable reports.
-allows small businesses to look at the profitability of segments of their business lines through use of class feature

Cons

- QB is constantly making changes without warning to the way the site is setup. They should role out changes in versions with announcements of changes.
- some more sophisticated users are not satisfied with the QBO limits.
- not a good solution for businesses who need to control inventory levels and cost accounting

Pros

I really think the online version caters to up and coming entrepreneurs who are on the go, and are exciting about new, quicker and more efficient ways to do accounting. I have used(and currently do accounting for 2 other companies I own) the desktop quickbooks for over 5 years, and it is better for huge companies with internal servers to work on.

Pros

Ease of use!
The way it connects to bank accounts, credit cards and other software companies is seamless.
You can use it for easy accounting or more in depth, the choice is yours.
Reports are so convenient, you can have them emailed to you or anyone, and very easy to see the big picture. You can customize them literally however you want, so it's super easy to catch mistakes.
App on your phone when your on the go.
It now has classes, which is nice for reports.

Cons

If you own multiple companies you need to do accounting for, it gets expensive with each individual subscription.
The downloaded app of the online version doesn't work as well, in my opinion. Through my web browser works best.

Overall this system has saved our company a lot of time and money when it comes to keeping our books.

Pros

Ability to have your accountants see your accounts in real time.
Syncing with multiple bank accounts makes reconciling at the end of the month much easier and less time consuming.
Ability to create invoices and receive them in the same system is convenient and leaves less room for errors.

Cons

There are times that QuickBooks looses connection with the banks and requires that your password be changed.
Because we pay for the service monthly, it would be nice to have a support contact within Quickbooks to ask questions to. Currently you have to ask a question to a group of users and hope you get a response.

Pros

User friendly and no more worries about backing up my files!!! I used to have to set reminders to back up my Quickbooks Pro files. Once I even had a computer crash and lost all data. That was devastating! With Quickbooks Online, it is all stored for me.

Cons

I really don't have any cons. It's the best accounting software that this old bookkeeper has used. I do not have an accounting degree and I have found it to be very user friendly.

Value for Money

Pros

I love how we can access it online anywhere and any time. I love the invoicing to clients and how they can pay online. The payroll function works nicely as well. Overall it is pretty user friendly and super great as long as you aren't using the time tracking feature for employees.

Cons

The time tracking feature is awful. Our employees use it to log their time daily and the data just - poof- goes missing! We have called customer service nothing short of 20 times on this issue and they are not helpful. It is a very frustrating issue, so we are having to buy another 3rd party service to track time and import it into quickbooks. Frustrating as it is sold as part of the package.

A great program if you use every single aspect of it. If you only want a check register and payroll functions with 1099 and W-2 capability maybe shop around... I am :)

Pros

Quickbooks Online is a very powerful and through accounting and payroll program and has excellent technical support. They start you out at a reduced rate to see if the program will suit your needs.

Cons

Quickbooks Online is a package deal. You can not just buy parts of it. So if you do not need all of the package you still have to pay for all of it. I have also found that Quickbooks goes up on their price by about $10/month every time they make an update to their programs. This has happened 2x in the past 9 months in my case and I find that to be unacceptable.

Pros

Once set up properly, it's just a matter of inputting the information in each week to create the paycheck, then in the same area, make & record your payroll taxes too. Love that I don't have to go to multiple other websites to make all the payments. I can even e-file my 941,940, W-s's & W-3 reports online in the same payroll area!

Cons

Still have to go to L & I website to make payment & cannot file 1099's online (yet?). It would be nice to be able to fix errors in payroll when using the Accountant's copy too.

Pros

It is mostly set up for you in the beginning. This is a great system to get you started, but we quickly wanted to change to something that was more built for churches. QBO was easy to learn the basics. Quick start.

Cons

Not made for churches. Even the non-profit quickbooks is basically the same. There is not really a way to keep track of ministry funds with out having to manipulate the system and by the time that is done it would have been easier to go with a system built for churches that tracks funds, attendance and giving all in one.

I can help clients manage their business from anywhere thanks to Intuit's cloud-based solution.

Pros

The mobile app is fantastic and allows me to create & edit invoices on the fly. My clients trust the Intuit name, so it is easy to get them to switch to the cloud based platform even if they are tech-averse. The ability to integrate with so many other services via API makes QBO an important tool in an automated office.

Cons

The design is not user friendly for me and does not lend itself well to working on a laptop screen with multiple windows open. There is not enough ability to customize the product for my needs.

We selected Quickbooks to reduce our time entry, better support our growing organization and allow me to focus on my full time job passion, not my part time business. They were supposed to integrate with Quickbooks Onlinel however it doesn't work. They were supposed to be easy to use, only they weren't. They were supposed to be able to support a franchise organization with 65 employees across 3 states... only they didn't, we were the biggest client at the time.

Cons

Most of the pros speak for themselves, however there are more.. they were supposed to be able to handle multi-location employees, but they don't. They were supposed to be easy to work with, however thier risk group is so ambigous that it makes working with the overall platform impossible. They were supposed to have API support for our integration partner to use, only it's been almost 2 years and still nothing.. Calling in for support has resulted in hours of hold time on a monthly basis. When adding employees you have to call them to assign them to locations, it cannot be done as part of the data entry process. I could keep going on, but changing from ADP to Quickbooks was probably the most unproductive decision we've made to date.

Easy bookkeeping with all the different report types that we need. We can track divisions as well as overall company income/ expenses.

Pros

Its very easy to use and pretty intuitive. If you need help a Google search usually helps you find the answer you're looking for. As far as functionality goes, its so easy to use to invoice and track payments. We have subscription based payments as well as payments for services rendered. We also have divisions. Quickbooks Online allows you to track everything together or, in divisions so if we want to see how a division is performing we can. There are multiple ways to track numbers so all of the different reports that are available is just great. I like the online QB because both me and my bookkeeper can log on at any time. The big Pro to QB Online is its integration with so many different softwares and platforms and they even have a WordPress Plugin I believe. We recently started using an online proposal software and it integrates with QB Online so our Bookkeeper no longer has to manually enter in new client info, the proposal software adds all the information for us!

Cons

I wish there was a live chat or some kind of customer service to interact with. I'm not a fan of typical Help pages because I can never seem to find exactly what I'm looking for, so I always like software that is backed by live people who are there when you need them.

Eliminate the need for a bookkeeper thus saving about $70/month. I used the Dashboard to see where I am at, in the month or quarter and that information has often goosed me to up my sales game.

Pros

Ease f understanding especially the Dashboard. I can skip from sales to expenses and back without losing my transaction or forgetting where I was at because of an interruption.

Cons

The online version sometimes takes a while to start up. The desk App, that supposedly works with the online version, allows you to avoid this issue but I have not been able to figure out how that works.

it's cloud based - need I say more?

Pros

This is my second try. I attempted to use the online version last year, but my data did not load properly. After several failed tries, I cancelled my subscription and QB credited my account. After condensing a few accounts, I gave QB online another try. I am glad I did. Being cloud based, I can handle payroll and process vendor invoices, run reports and financials without physically being in the office, and that just rocks!

Cons

If you are used to quickbooks on the desktop, learning how to use the online version will take a little bit of time. It's definitely not the same. However, they have outstanding support. I have used both online chat and phone support.

Doing math without using my brain!

Pros

I like the simplicity of the software. It has come a long way over the years. It's so much easier to navigate.

Cons

I have trouble with auto downloading from my bank account. It is easy to download, but not too easy to navigate or fix issues afterwards.

It's nice software but the customer support is not good. When we send email, we don't get reply.

Reporting part is very good. We get various easy accessable reports. It work fast. Quickbooks financing scheme is good too.

Pros

This software is easy to operate. It is working fast. I like everything about this software except we can't import data's from US version to Global Version.

Cons

We can't apply multiple tax rates in one invoice in US version so its very hard for us to track tax reports otherwise we have to move from US version to Global version.

Productivity, accuracy.

Pros

Ease of use. Combines daily needs with standard and customized reporting. Ties in with banking. Able to use with 1099 reporting. Client invoicing as well as expenses/vendor tracking. We now use for payroll as well.

Cons

Wish that there was more integration included into the CRM, we'd love to decrease the number of systems that we use to just two: CRM and then QuickBooks.

Ease of use and customized reporting.

Pros

As a small non profit organization, we find the online access to be the best option for us. The software is easy to use and navigate and the reports are easily customized.

Cons

Since we are a small non profit, the cost of the software is a lot more than we'd like to spend. We could use that money to feed our students, put tires on our buses, take our students on a great educational field trip.
