Workday Software

Workday is a comprehensive human resources (HR) suite that offers core HR, recruiting, talent management, learning management, compensation management, benefits administration and payroll management within a suite.

The solution features HR management which allows users to centrally manage their employee database, organizational hierarchy and employee contracts. Users can also create scorecards to track organizational performance on business goals.

Workday features mobile recruiting, which allows users to create requisitions and track applications from their mobile devices. The solution also features social media integration, which allows users to import applicant details from their social media profiles.

The compensation management function allows users to define employee packages by benchmarking against data from Workday and marketplace data. Users can also roll out employee benefits such as insurance, health plans and retirement plans using integrations with popular benefit providers.

Pros

Great versatility and easy to use. Very easy to explain to employees who are. Or computer literate.

Cons

Adding dependent before going to change benefits. VERY confusing for employees. It would be a good option to add dependents in the actual life event.

Pros

Flexible, ease to use, always available and always up-to-day. Good integration.
I don't know have we would live without WorkDay. So awesome.

Cons

Cons are tough for me. Maybe sometimes new products are released with less functionality than we need. So we have to wait for the next version or versions.

Inadequate training, lack of internal SME resources, and an absence of a true guided vision/direction by leadership will result in an expensive and poorly received system. As such, an organization will be reliant on implementation partners or independents as consultants, supporting or re-implementing a failed system, which will be even more expensive.

Pros

Workday is leading edge technology and highly configurable. The UI is best in class. Integrations with most 3rd party systems are easy to configure and the delivered packaged integrations are superb.

Cons

An organization needs to ensure proper internal support for the system to function smoothly. Training and user adoption/communication is also key for acceptance. An organization must have the SME talent in-house to be successful.

Our organization recently deployed Workday and it seems to be an improvement. I was not involved in the setup, but as a user, I appreciate having information about policies, pay stubs, vacation, and sick accruals, organization chart, etc. more easily accessible. The format and layout are nice and navigation is straightforward.

The system is intuitive to the basic users. When our new employees are prompted to enter their information, I have not had one person who has a questions. They were able to flow through the screen easily.

Pros

The flow of the system and notifications are great.

Cons

It is sometime difficult to track approvals and if a personnel transaction happened.

Navigation as an employee - good. Easy to understand the basics (pay, taxes, etc.). Benefits enrollment challenging. Navigation from HR - reports/data can be challenging to pull what you are exactly looking for. Organizational chart is difficult for large organizational. Ease of use from management perspective can be challenging (i.e. opening/closing position).

Expense report features could use modification. The timeout feature is not user-friendly and causes the user to have to restart the expense report process.

The Directory could be modified for easier navigating.

Pros

Fairly easy to navigate without instructions
Overall layout is simple

Cons

Expense report feature needs modification

Value for Money

Workday has been easy to learn, and easy to communicate or teach managers how it works. There are a few improvements that I would like to see happen, but it may be just because we as a company haven't customized it to match expectations yet.

Pros

Documentation of steps, up next tasks, approvals pending easily viewable and easy to find.

Cons

Identification of requisitions ID and integration with our ATS Jobvite. Not so easy to find and match to ATS.

Advice to Others

Great product to learn, easy to understand, but make sure the right teams in place to customize it for each HR team involved.

Value for Money

Workday makes it easy to run reports, look up employees and essentially do my HR job.

Pros

The visibility of personal information. Click the tab....and there it is.

Cons

The process of assigning payment elections. Employees think they only have to enter their account information and many times, their direct deposit information is not there because of the missed step.

Advice to Others

Take the training classes. There are so many options and capabilities, you will want to know them all.

I like that it is configured for security and complete management of employee data and reporting. It's simple enough for employees, managers, and HR to use, yet sophisticated enough to handle the large volume of transactions/data necessary.

- For the end user this product is very intuitive, however as an analyst I wish some things were a little bit more
- When you have a how to question, Workday support will will refer you to the Community to find an answer. Finding an answer can take awhile in the community.

Recommendations

- Think about the integrations you want, make sure you have a fully engaged IT Team.

Likes Best

The user interface is simple and clean - from a non-admin/HR user perspective it's relatively easy to find/take action on things in the system. The 'Workday Community' is an interesting idea & good way for companies with various levels of experience with the product to connect on ideas/problem solve.

Likes Least

There's much to be desired from a recruiting perspective; this is NOT an ATS. Having had to build numerous custom processes for what would seem like routine/basic processes or actions within a recruiting function may cause frustration for users expecting a more robust ATS to be delivered.

Recommendations

Make sure you evaluate what your actual needs are/will be from Day 1. Many HRIS systems/packages show themselves as being able to deliver/cover all of your needs and that might not really be the case.
