Zenefits Software


 

Zenefits is a cloud-based human resources information system (HRIS) that features user dashboards, core human resources, benefits administration, onboarding and employee scheduling.

When new employees are hired, HR professionals using Zenefits only need to complete five online fields to begin the onboarding process. Employees sign all agreements online, and Zenefits can automatically process their information. When employees leave, HR can remove them from payroll and benefits and initiate COBRA setup with a single process. Zenefit also offers an employee self-service portal.

Zenefits can integrate with payroll, health insurance and other systems, and users can also set up new payroll, insurance, retirement plans and more. Zenefits has a development team that makes weekly changes based on user feedback. They also have a team of in-house HR, payroll and insurance specialists to answer questions via phone or email.

I have used Zenefits for about a year and will be changing systems very soon.

Pros

No cost. I like the ease of the onboarding system and ability to push to payroll seamlessly. It is relatively easy to use. Customization is possible but not always easy.

Cons

They changed so that they charge for a number of features now, they dont offer payroll in many states, they no longer have dedicated reps, you have email into a general support area and in many cases my response to support needs were very slow. They seem to have had some challenges with growth and their original promise of offering a free system that was robust and growing in exchange for brokering service commissions no longer really holds true.

We utilized this solution at a Series B funded startup at the time and the major influence for selecting Zenefits was due to price point and customization. You are able to keep clean employee files, documents, and have new hires e-sign their paperwork.

Cons

Sometimes the system was very clunky, we were not able to do certain things and some users would have different views, although the same permissions. Support was very poor here. Although we used this system during 2015 when there was a lot of internal turmoil at Zenefits. Overall we made it work!

Honestly, my company is researching other companies so that we can remove Zenefits from out life.

Pros

In regards to the "free" areas of Zenefits (the ones that come with having them as your benefits broker) they are limited and pertain mainly to the basics of benefits. I do like that Zenefits can connect to our JazzHR ATS when onboarding.

Cons

I don't like that you have to pay for benefits related services such as reporting and 1099 compilation at the end of the year. This should not be an upcharge and for my company, the ability to run the 1099 reports and work with the document storage section cost over $7000 for the year under the Bronze plan. Contacting support is difficult now and there is a constant revolving door with regards to their employee turnover and so it has been hard to even know who to work with when we need help.

Zenefits has helped our start up company manage like a big company. I love the HR management, onboarding, benefits management, compliance, and time off aspects in particular and so do our employees. I look forward to adding Zenefits payroll once it is available in our state. Seriously, I cannot say enough good things about it!

Saves time, makes the HR generalist look like a rock star, streamlines processes, syncs with Intuit Online Payroll, HSA, integrated HR reports, support is very responsive

Cons

I would recommend using a competitor. The hidden fees made one question if their pricing will change drastically in the future. Be cautious.

Pros

The product itself appeared to be a nice solution in the market. It was simple to navigate. The onboarding automation was a great feature.

Cons

Pricing isn't clear. They charge a $150 implementation fee after you sign up. It would not necessarily be a deal breaker for me but the fact that the fee is hidden and isn't clear from the beginning makes one questions the business values. Not sure if partnering with such an enterprise like that is best when dealing with such a sensitive aspect of my business.

Overall, we would definitely recommend Zenefits, particularly for smaller organizations like ours, since it is efficient to have all HR handled in one place.

Pros

Lots of features, and now that payroll processing is possible, it has become so comprehensive that everything is in one place. Pricing is still affordable, even though they now charge for features that used to be free.
The new interface is relatively easy to use, and we definitely appreciate the continued efforts to improve the program.

Cons

Customer service remains an area for improvement. The quality is definitely inconsistent, and unfortunately, we've had more bad experiences than positive ones. There's lots of being bounced from one person/department to another, and occasionally unresponsiveness--it was a nightmare renewing our insurance plans.

Cons

Zenefits needs an integration with ADP. It also needs more performance management capabilities.

This software simplifies the employee onboarding process dramatically. You are able to send out the offer letter and other hiring documents, collect direct deposit information as well as tax forms and verify the I9 forms all is the software. All of this is included free of charge.

Cons

The company is founded on the fact that they want to earn your employer healthcare plan, however we worked to go through this process with them and had a poor experience. The service started out as free and then they took fuctionality away and added it to upgraded paid plans instead of in the free version.

I'd stay away from this product until they get their company back on solid footing... they are a total mess right now..... maybe headed to bankruptcy?

nice user interface- at leat it looks good, but the benefits stop there, there is no customer service at all.

Cons

terrible customer service! we have had huge problems with them filing our taxes for us in California, we cannot get ANYONE to answer emails or calls for weeks!!!

Cons

Payroll was a nightmare to say the least--this feature needs a lot of work. I would also like to be able to have my managers be able to utilize the performance management platform--which currently they cannot unless I give Admin rights (which we do not want to do)

Cons

They dont have great customer service. Once I had an issue using the PTO app and it took over 2 weeks to resolve. Horrible service.

Zenefits is easy to use and employee raves about the simplicity of the platform. There is not much to complain about in terms of technical support as we rarely encounter hiccups and find it easy to troubleshoot and is generally a just ID10T error. I do enjoy the fact that my employees can navigate about without too much training or hands-on support from me.

Cons

I think the platform can be more robust. I enjoyed being on another platform with a more established brand where we are able to use the total HRIS solutions to house all personnel files, handbooks, and they worked with us in an HRBP capacity to ensure we were in compliance. It would be great if Zenefits had more hands on physically accessible staff who came on client site monthly to assist with HR matters especially for smaller organization with HR departments of one.

I like the simplicity of the dashboard. A lot of other programs just list everything or its very cluttered.

Cons

I guess the one thing I would like to see is the time off tab, if the days you have could be split up into different categories. Like PTO, sick, bereavement. Anytime i need to know i either have to go ask around my office or have to read my employee handbook.

Would prefer some more true benefits advice from the benefits advisor. while she helped me a lot with this open enrollment, I felt that I was driving the discussions rather than she. I would've like more advice from her regarding which plans to target and what other companies my size are doing.

Pros

Zenefits makes onboarding and benefits enrollment paperless and easy. The third party app integrations help round out the onboarding process.

Cons

Sometimes the app integrations don't work. Third party app store is minimal. Would like integration with my current 401k provider.

The program is easy to use, easy to set up and great way to organize our employee information/benefits. The phone app made it that much easier since we have a lot of off-site employees. Zenefit's staff is great too-- they are always very helpful and quick to respond.

Cons

I'd like to see more features to the program - a section to schedule an employee review (reminders to do so on the management end), HR request from our employees (request to meet, anonymous suggestions), ability to add in custom fields (our reasoning: under the benefits section we could add fields that state vehicle they operate, if they have a company cell phone, company computer, etc. just to keep those records all in one place).

The site is pretty easy to navigate. Customer service is great. When you email them, they respond same day and do their best to find a solution for you. They are open to feedback and make the necessary changes quickly.

Cons

We did start a little rocky because we felt we had to ask the question to get an answer. They essentially did not how much information to give us. But as I mentioned, customer service was very good at answering our questions.

I like that the cards are available quickly via mobile app. I also find that having access to pay stubs and additional information is very useful because I don't like to carry a lot of cards on me.

Onboarding made simple

Pros

I love the onboarding feature. It allows me to have a very specific sign on employment letter laying out the specifics of an employee's employment requirements. I can also get the required tax information upfront. So simple to use and the customer service has been great with any of my questions!

Cons

I dislike the fact you now have to pay per employee to obtain the sick/vacation time feature. I realize things cost more as improvements are made, but I liked having the sick/vacation feature part of the free package.

As Zenefits users for the past three years, we've loved how easy the solution is for onboarding new employees. Employees have made comments like "I knew the company really 'got it' when the onboarding was so simple. It also nice to manage everything in one platform - payroll, benefits, onboarding, business intelligence, etc. Without Zenefits we would likely need an additional employee just to do paperwork. Zenefits has always been responsive to our needs as an organization and our customer success manager has been extremely helpful.

Cons

We had a rough open enrollment process with the tool, but we started earlier this year and should be in better shape. Because the tool is constantly evolving, sometimes features come and go (Zenefits got rid of an in-house stock options tool they had built and so we had to switch vendors as a result).

That it's super easy to use by everyone. I spend less time doing paperwork. Employees can take control of their onboarding and make changes. They can request PTO and see what is pending and how many hours they have remaining. Zenefits is like having a silent HR person.

The theory of what they are trying to do is huge, especially for small business.
UI was better 18 months ago when my clients signed up.

Cons

Service took a major hit after their very public issues. When I reached out for assistance with an issue, they didn't even attempt to fix it in a satisfactory way. If they actually want to retain clients, their service team shouldn't just assume it doesn't work for you and infer "take it or leave it."

There is not a one size fits all HRIS, but Zenefits comes close. The user-friendliness is unlike anything I've seen yet, and I've used many HRIS's. The customer services is pretty good, though I have had to follow up on more technical questions that I needed to be resolved. The sales team did oversell the customization, but the system has come closer than any other to meeting our tracking and compliance needs.

Zenefits is great for start-ups that are looking to grow. Easy to use and employees have the ability to view personal information along with benefits, compensation, it interfaces with Expensify, Lever, and many more apps. Easy to make changes to employees profile, makes everything paperless when it comes to managing employee information.

Reports are great, you can create your own or use the ones they provide. They offer the ability to manage not only benefits but corporate liability insurance, FSA and commuter benefits. Payroll syncs easily if you use one of their partners or use Zenefits own payroll service. If your company is on a budget this is the way to go as you have insight into everything! Do away with PEO's as they are costly!

Pros

Easy to use and syncs with many apps out there. ADP workforce, Lever, Slack, Expensify and many more.

Cons

Sometimes hard to figure out where stuff is in each of the sections from and administrator point.

I love using Zenefits for my HR tasks. It keeps everyone's information in one spot, digitally, and secure. It saved me so much time by employees being able to request time off from their computers and being able to track their vacation time.

Pros

Cheap to use, very user-friendly. It's an all-in-one stop for anyone in HR

We transitioned to Zenefits and it has been an interesting transition. I like the features and the ease of use. The only thing is the fact that I can't necessarily call customer service. It is through email and as we all know, things can be lost in translation via email. When you do finally get someone on the phone, they are very helpful. It just takes a bit of back and forth before that happens.

Overall a good HRIS system for no cost. The implementation specialists are great and helpful. I ran into a few problems switching from a previous COBRA provider to Zenefits, but the transitions issues were only partially Zenefits' fault and they worked at quickly remedying the issues.
