eTurns Software

eTurns is cloud-based software designed to manage remote stockroom inventories with eVMI sensors, iPhones/Androids, scanners or RFID. It aims to help customers optimize inventory at the point-of-use in order to reduce costs and deliver improved service levels. The system specifically targets distributors who want to get real-time visibility into their customers' stockroom inventory and to automate replenishment; health care organizations that need to optimize inventory in remote stockrooms and contractors who need to manage parts and labor on service trucks.

One solution they offer is eVMI—fully automated inventory management using sensors. eTurns places sensors under bins of parts on a mobile cart or stationery rack. eTurns eVMI measures the weight of those bins regularly. When the weight falls below a minimum, a replenishment order is triggered and sent to the distributor’s enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. eTurns' price includes unlimited users. It can be installed in a few hours, with or without an ERP/WMS system, and requires no upfront IT costs.

I would like to have seen more ways to collaborate data, an API, import/exporting methods.

Anixter is a distributor of advanced cabling and we've used eTurns/3 remote stockroom inventory software for over 15 years to help us manage the consigned inventories at our customer accounts. eTurns provides us with a solution that allows us to invoice on consumption, replenish as necessary and use one set of books to reconcile inventory. We are excited to move to eTurns/4 which is a browser-based solution. it is geared to our needs and that's another plus.

We wish they couldn't sell it to our competitors because it ends up being a good differentiator for us in sales engagements. Due to reasons beyond my control, this used to be the case prior to me joining the team

Recommendations

Don't be confused looking for the wrong category of software to gain visibility into inventories at your end-customer locations. You can't use your ERP or Warehouse Management System to manage your stockroom inventory. You need software that is specifically designed for managing inventory at the point-of-use, whether it is for OEM (direct material building products) or MRO (maintenance of plant and equipment)

TTI is an electronic components distributor and we've used eTurns/3 remote storeroom inventory software for several years. We use it to help us manage the consigned inventories at our customer accounts. eTurns allows us to invoice on consumption, replenish as necessary and use one set of books to reconcile inventory. eTurns provides a very smooth way to track exactly what the customer used and needs to pay for. Without it, we would have a lot more confusion and negotiations with customers.

While eTurns/3 offers diverse functionality it is client based software versus browser based. The new eTurns/4 platform is browser based and offers users the same diversity of scanning options as well as additional functionality.

Recommendations

Make sure the software is not a one trick pony either with the range of functionality that it offers or with the number of devices you can use to capture the transactions. We like having the choice of using an iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad, PDA or PC with eTurns.

The program is mostly intuitive to use. The training of our internal personnel as well as those of our customers, which are the end users has been minimal.

Being able to access the system from a remote location and to see exactly what the user sees has made field support very easy.

The initial/start-up and follow up support has been very good. The eTurns staff have been very good and timely with following up on issues and requests. They are very engaged in supporting their product and our operation of eTurns..

We would prefer additional written/printed reference materials for describing the field set up and relationships.

Recommendations

Understand your internal and your customers process for managing inventory and for purchasing materials.

Map out the decision tree for assigning part numbers and who is responsible for maintaining the item costs within the system.

Also, clearly defining user roles and responsibilities is beneficial.

As with any product or software, the real work is in the initial setup. Proper planning between the developer, supplier, and end user are critical. This is not so much a critique as it is a reminder to have your data in order prior to start up of this system, otherwise, garbage in will result in garbage out.

Gexpro Services, a world-class distributor, is all about service. Our business model is to provide onsite VMI to our customers. eTurns provides us visibility into our customers' inventories and automates replenishment which reduces our cost-of-sales to a minimum. Because eTurns helps us optimize our customers' inventories and deliver great service levels, our customers reap the benefits of this value-added service. We have used all 4 of their tracking technologies -- iPhone, eVMI sensors, RFID, and scanners and they've all worked well for getting us real-time inventory status and managing that inventory. Their support is definitely a strong point - the team over there is VERY responsive.

Likes Least

Honestly, there is not a lot I can list here... other than it would be nice if they wouldn't sell eTurns to our direct competitors.

Recommendations

Over the past 10 years we have periodically taken a look to see if there were better remote storeroom inventory management solutions than what eTurns provides and each time we came up empty. ERP providers are too expensive and cumbersome and other inexpensive cloud software for inventory management was not as full-featured as eTurns
