E2 by Shoptech Corporation brings all business operations into a single simple solution, from estimating to scheduling, purchasing, shipping and even customer management and accounting, with its easy-to-use solution. Designed specifically for job shops, contract and a variety of make-to-order manufacturers, Shoptech's comprehensive ERP helps job shops run more smoothly, while increasing both productivity and profits.

E2 simplifies estimating, allowing users to create both "quickie quotes" and complex estimates on labor, overhead, material, etc., that can be faxed or emailed with attached drawings or pictures. These quotes can be automatically turned into orders, with no double entry required.

E2 automatically generates shipping labels and packing slips and then tracks shipments online to multiple shipping addresses. Its materials management module controls all components and parts, aligning the company's purchase needs with the entered orders, as well as tracking delivery and finding the best prices.

E2's scheduling module eliminates guesswork, while its contact management module helps shops ensure that everyone stays on the same page, from the shop floor to the end client. It also pulls in all business financials, so shops can manage payroll, accounts payable and receivable and general ledger from a single location, as well as using one of the 200 built-in reports for comprehensive analysis.

All of these features are supported by Shoptech's national network of regional offices and training centers, as well as a 'round-the-clock techncal service center.

Our firm is a fabrication company making custom products for customers; we typically make many of the same products each month but everything is made to order and we don't carry inventory because everything is shipped upon completion. E2 works well with our every changing fabrication needs. When you purchase the software E2 assigns a Technical Support Specialist that is available via the phone or webex and this group is very responsive and helpful. The E2 training and support staff are outstanding, the product is easy to use; I highly recommend the software.

No negative issues with the vendor at all. Printing reports within the software is based on Crystal Reports; customizing the E2 Reports can be done but it is not easy. I wish we could customize the Job Traveler and other reports without having to rely on an outside vendor with knowledge of Crystal Reports.

Recommendations

Transitioning to a new software program can be challenging and I strongly recommend running a "Test Company" prior to going live with E2. The software has many great features but our "Test Company" revealed that we needed to revisit our "Part Numbers and Part Descriptions". We are now using many more "Job Travelers" than anticipated - this is not a problem, just something that we identified in the "Test Company".

Cost, the price is attractive up front but when you implement you soon find out the short comings. This solution may be good for a 3 person shop that would like to work in the stone age. Good starter solution but it will not help you grow.

Outdated, hard to run reports, errors, no spell check no cut and paste in some fields. It really works against you. We went with E2 years ago because we thought it was a good solution- it is sad to see that they do not keep up with the times. No real improvements in years, same old stumbling blocks and roadblocks. Really no spell check? I have custom quotes go out with typos...

Spend more on a more modern solution, your payback will be 10Xs

Some simple updates could improve the system and make it more user friendly.
Some times we get an answer from sales and implement the change but then find out that technical customer service tell us something else.

Recommendations

Always talk or meet with users and get the real answers to your questions before you purchase any operating system like this.
Once you purchase it you are stuck with it.

The E2 shop system has been a great "step up" from our previous ERP system. It's a well thought out system and we've yet to encounter a "problem" where the software hasn't been able to provide a "solution". The documentation and tutorials are more than adequate to get you using the system quickly and the support staff have been very responsive to any questions we have had.

Recommendations

We explored several other software systems and found that ultimately none of them offered the scope or value of the E2 system.

E2 has dramatically increased the overall efficiency in quoting, entering orders and shipping. Having all the job documentation linked and available in one spot is great. The quality module is key to maintaining our Quality Management system.
Both support and sales provide excellent and prompt responses to problems or questions. Very friendly and easy to work with. Having technicians log on remote to solve problems is a great feature.

Important to have sales rep come and show demonstration of the software. The more we have used the software and all it's functions the more efficient we have become. It is very user friendly. It is a complete system and important to see how the various modules interact with each other and how they can save time and reduce errors

The accounting side of E2 could be better. Report selection and getting balance sheet and income statement information needs to be easier to accomplish.

Visit with one or two users and discuss your companies needs. Also discuss with E2 support the best way to implement.

I've been using E2 since it was a DOS system & have always been impressed with the product upgrades that keep E2 on the forefront of shop floor and accounting needs. Users actually have a say in the product development. It's not an out-of-the box stagnant product.

E2 is easy to train new employees to use and understand. Their support people are the best at handling whatever your situation may be, and are very knowledgeable.

The only thing I can think of is, once in awhile the "process" function can be a little unforgiving when a user isn't paying attention.

Recommendations

Talk to people who actually use the software. You'll find that E2 will be a step above the others.

Updates can be a pain on windows 7. I have not personally had any bad experiences with software other than the updates on Windows 7 64 bit.

The ease of use and layout of the system make working... as if you're not working! With quick-keys, you can zip from one screen and onto another to get more information on the subject you are inquiring about or make immediate edits. The E2 system can hold so much info on items stored within it that it is too bad that we do not take advantage of it.

There appeared to be glitches within the database, but after 7 years of investigation, I found that the issues were the cause of multiple users making changes to a particular subject (to the item itself, a job, an order, etc). I wish that the E2 system would have warning pop-ups, like ones you see on website forums ("there is a new post... do you wish to read it before submitting yours?"), which gives a user acknowledgement that information has been changed by another user prior to submitting any other changes.

Recommendations

It is critical that you balance the needs and wants of how you will use the E2 system before purchasing. Are you having to make changes to how your production is to run? If not, how will the information be different in the system than it is on your current program?

Once I learned to navigate and apply it to our needs, the information and knowledge of our business is easily accessible.

I can only have one window open in E2 at a time. If a customer calls and I'm in the middle of a quote, I have to close what I'm doing. There is a history button on most pages in E2, but the history search goes back a week, so I will have to wait for up to a couple minutes or longer before my history comes up. If it would search only that day it would be a great feature. As it's set now, the feature is useless.

Recommendations

The service package is a must. Don't be hesitant to call for any question no matter how small or even if you ask the same question 10 times. When something goes wrong, the resource of calling for immediate attention is invaluable.

This is one of the easiest software packages to use but it does more than most of the very expensive programs. Shoptech has great customer service and technical support.

What I like best about ShopTech's E2 Shop System is that it's very easy to use but at the same time, powerful enough to track all our jobs that are in the shop. I can look and see where a job is, what machine or work center it is at with up-to-date labor reporting using barcodes set up in the shop. Also, creating routing and bill of materials is very user friendly and easy to make changes.

The thing I like least is that you don't have the ability to "unprocess" a particular job number under an order without "unprocessing" the complete order.

Recommendations
