E2 Shop System Software

E2 by Shoptech Corporation brings all business operations into a single simple solution, from estimating to scheduling, purchasing, shipping and even customer management and accounting, with its easy-to-use solution. Designed specifically for job shops, contract and a variety of make-to-order manufacturers, Shoptech's comprehensive ERP helps job shops run more smoothly, while increasing both productivity and profits.

E2 simplifies estimating, allowing users to create both "quickie quotes" and complex estimates on labor, overhead, material, etc., that can be faxed or emailed with attached drawings or pictures. These quotes can be automatically turned into orders, with no double entry required.

E2 automatically generates shipping labels and packing slips and then tracks shipments online to multiple shipping addresses. Its materials management module controls all components and parts, aligning the company's purchase needs with the entered orders, as well as tracking delivery and finding the best prices.

E2's scheduling module eliminates guesswork, while its contact management module helps shops ensure that everyone stays on the same page, from the shop floor to the end client. It also pulls in all business financials, so shops can manage payroll, accounts payable and receivable and general ledger from a single location, as well as using one of the 200 built-in reports for comprehensive analysis.

All of these features are supported by Shoptech's national network of regional offices and training centers, as well as a 'round-the-clock techncal service center.

A horrible experience to share.

Ease-of-use

It is easy to navigate but pointless to have an easy interface when the results you get make it difficult to use.

Functionality

The product is not meeting our needs. We find ourselves wasting more time than I care to think about trying to get this system to work properly.

Product Quality

Very weak. This system is only good if you have very small, simple bills of material.

Customer Support

99 of 100 questions as to why something happened have be met with either "It was a fluke," or "Two people must have had the record opened at the same time." I'm getting to the point where I know the customer service script as well as they do.

Likes Best

When we first got the product, I had at least a few good things to say, but the amount of time wasted on E2 has taken all of the good away.

Likes Least

The customer service is atrocious. The customer service here has made me pray that they take support offshore. For the first year that we had the software, every problem we had was blamed on the fact that we were Microsoft Access-based. Once I told a customer support specialist to stop selling the software in a platform that they use as a scapegoat for problems, the unprofessional answer I received was, "You were told of the limits with Microsoft Access when you purchased the software." That response infuriated me to the point that I pulled my original E2 sales quote and order confirmation to find that I was told Microsoft Access may have problems when your database exceeds 600Mb and you have more than 10 users. The problem that I explained to the customer service specialist was that our database was only 55Mb and we only had five users, yet Microsoft Access was their go-to excuse for problems. In the end, to remove that excuse, we went to SQL, only to continue having issues, but now, they tell us that we are the only customer that has a problem with a feature.

The most recent disappointment comes in the item inventory area. E2 salespeople showed us all of these great features of how we could link our drawings to each item and have them print with an RFQ, a PO, etc. The only problem is that when we actually try to use this feature, we found out that the option for printing a drawing with a PO does not work correctly when we are placing purchase orders against a job. If we set the defaults to pull the drawing to print with PO but the PO is associated with a job, every item on the bill of material that is set to print with the PO prints with any order. In other words, if you have a flat Bill of Material with 300 custom-made parts and each part has a drawing that you defaulted to print with PO, when you process, order, and start to buy the parts, you will have all 300 drawings attached to every PO against the job. So, let's say you were building a circuit card with 20 resistors (each having their own drawing), 20 capacitors (each having their own drawing), and so on until you hit 300 parts. You then go to place orders with 15 different vendors. You will get all 300 drawings with each PO on the job if you set your defaults to print with PO. The normal assumption would be that 'print w/PO' which is set on the item inventory page, at the item level, would only print the drawing for that part when you order that part. It seems pretty stupid to me that the drawing for a screw prints when I place an order for a resistor because both parts are for the same to level job.

Recommendations

My recommendation is to consider a different system. All I can say is, if you have not given E2 a purchase order, you still have time to save yourself and your company a great deal of money and aggravation.

E2 has been great for our shop

Ease-of-use

Since all of the areas look the same, it is very easy to pick up. We went to the classroom training and did some online training as well.

Functionality

It fits us like a glove. We pretty much use all of the modules. The scheduling whiteboard is very intuitive, and since it is tied into the data collection on the shop floor, we are able to see exactly where each job is on the floor. We've been able to get a lot more jobs through the shop with less people in the office.

Product Quality

No issues here. Quality has been great. Software is stable.

Customer Support

We really haven't had to call much, but when we do, their support people have been able to help us on the first call. They are easy to get in touch with and always willing to help.

Likes Best

E2 was easy to learn and has helped our shop grow over the past four years. It is very intuitive, since all of the areas work the same way. The job costing for the shop floor has allowed us to focus on more profitable jobs. Their support has been fantastic, very helpful, and easy to get in touch with.

Likes Least

We love the product and the service and support that comes with it. I can't really think of any downside.

Recommendations

Be sure to find the software that fits your shop. We've been through two other ERP systems before finding E2. We struggled with the other products since they were designed for other types of manufacturing. E2 has been a perfect fit for us. We are a job shop but still do a fair amount of repeat work.

Would not ever use or buy this again!

Ease-of-use

It is not set up for maximizing AS9100 like we were led to believe. We always have to set up reports on our own or shell out lots of money to pay them to do it.

Functionality

I have had it for two years, and it still does not meet the expectations that my old ERP system met.

Product Quality

It does not function well at all. It's hard to navigate.

Customer Support

They always have a module or support that they want to sell you.

Likes Best

There's very little I like about this system.

Likes Least

It's hard to use and hard to navigate customer service. If you need something, all they ask is for more money for more time.

Recommendations

Look at other ERP systems first. My sales rep told me that this system would give me all I was needing in an ERP system, but I haven't found that to be the case. Look hard at any ERP system before you buy! Look at how it uses purchasing, POs, and travelers. See how easy it is to navigate the system. Compare with other systems before you buy!

Best product for the money

Ease-of-use

The menu-based system makes it very easy to follow.

Functionality

The scheduling in a release-based system that changes daily makes it problematic to use the schedule. I'm still hoping they will introduce multiple routing for parts.

Product Quality

We've had very few errors or crashing problems and have had the system for 14 years.

Customer Support

I never have to wait long on the line. They are more than willing to send you documentation to help you out.

Likes Best

It was helpful with writing custom reports and a quick response time.

Likes Least

It's mostly centered around US tax code and accounting practices, but this is understandable considering most of the customers are American.

Recommendations

Purchase and implement as much of the package as possible from the beginning.

GMF's rating for E2. We have been a user since 2011!

Ease-of-use

It's very easy to use. All modules tie in to each other. We had training for all our staff before we began using the software. The training at their facility was very good, as was the training we had here with a consultant. The consultants are very knowledgeable and helpful.

Functionality

This software meets all of our needs. There are little things we would like changed or adjusted, and we have opened some requests for that.

Product Quality

We've had a few weird things happening lately. We've seen some inconsistencies, so we're not sure what's going on. For the most part, the product is very good and stable. It might be our server; we're not sure.

Customer Support

I very rarely give anyone a perfect score, so this is about as good as it gets! When I email support, I wait to hear from people sometimes; it's better to call. Their website is great; I can find a lot of information there. Most tech support people are very knowledgeable; all are very helpful and polite!

Likes Best

The software is very easy to use and understand; the training is great (at their place or with a consultant). The quality module is a big plus to us, being ISO-certified. This allows us to have one system for both! The tech Support and E2's website are big plusses as well.

Likes Least

In the time card entry, you have to enter employee numbers slowly and make sure that employee is selected. If you have run and setup time to split out, you have to manually calculate the numbers. You would not know if you made a mistake there without remembering the time posted before the adjustment. It's not a major issue, either way.

Recommendations

We evaluated three other software companies before choosing E2, and we are still glad of the choice we made!

User for 7 years

Ease-of-use

It could be more intuitive. I would like to be able to link to more data from the Part Inquiry function. I have to jump from one function to another to get all the info available.

Functionality

Everything we need is there; it's just not always easy to get to everything.

Product Quality

I like the ease of use and would like a fix for the emailing issue.

Customer Support

I recently took over as Office Manager with less experience than my predecessor. They have helped me through a few of my sticking points.

Likes Best

Everything is integrated into one program. Once we purchased the Quality Module, tracking product history and issues became much easier, and our record keeping is much more complete. E2 support has been very polite and helpful.

Likes Least

Getting from one location to another can be a bit cumbersome, but once you become familiar with the software, it's not that much of an issue. There is a matter of emailing documents from E2 that we haven't been able to remedy and that is having to allow each email you send. E2 says it's Microsoft's problem, and Microsoft says it's E2's problem. A fix would be very much appreciated

Recommendations

It is a very comprehensive program. Everything you could need is included.

I love E2!

Ease-of-use

After implementation, the software prompts you in every way!

Functionality

It meets our needs and provides us with all the metrics needed to comply with AS9100.

Product Quality

It's very well-designed, especially the Quality Module, which makes corrective actions easier.

Customer Support

E2's support has been there at every turn for us. We have no complaints.

Likes Best

I had six years experience with E2 before recommending this product to my current employer. The thing I like best about E2 is that it is user-friendly and easy to train others in its use.

Likes Least

Nothing. It's all good for me. I can't think of anything negative to say about E2.

Recommendations

In comparison to other products, E2 is so easy to comprehend that I believe if others are evaluating it, they must check out the visual scheduling.

Beware of their Sales Process

Ease-of-use

It is okay to get around in, but the numbers are all over the place in the inventory module. There is no one place you can go to look at transactions.

Functionality

It doesn't do well at all.

Product Quality

There are a lot of little issues like how the columns won't stay the size you adjust them to, but it doesn't crash often.

Customer Support

I've never been helped by the first person to answer the phone. I am always made to wait while they consult the "back line," and then most of the time they just tell me it can't be done.

Likes Best

The screens are large and easy to read. It syncs with Quickbooks fairly well.

Likes Least

The product is not designed for a shop like ours and the sales reps misled us.

Recommendations

Be sure to physically visit the references they give you if at all possible. Be sure that this is what you want.

PF Technologies

Ease-of-use

Use a common sense approach; all implementation is relatively easy.

Functionality

As with all generic software, certain issues arise and changes in the way we handle these situations are developed.

Product Quality

Good, but it will require you to change the way you do things in order to effectively utilize the system.

Customer Support

People are professional, knowledgeable of the system, and able to solve your problems over the phone.

Likes Best

It organizes many production features and is easily accessable to retrieve documentation.

Likes Least

The Inventory Module is difficult to use and manage within the software.

Recommendations

It's a common sense approach to manufacturing products; E2 keeps things simple.

Operation Management

Ease-of-use

The user interface is simple and easy to use. The system doesn't have embedded cascading menus.

Functionality

Yes, it's easy to teach others. Many manufacturing employees don't have great computer skills, but they find the system easy to follow.

Product Quality

Quality is good. The IT team found it easy to install and maintain across the network.

Customer Support

The Project Managers are very supportive. Even the high level mangers, like the president, got involved in resolving some business issues the came up during implementation.

Likes Best

It's simple and powerful.

Likes Least

I don't have negative comments; the product works well.

Recommendations

Plan ahead and commit to quick implementation. Plan for a realistic learning curve. Don't transfer old data in the new database; keep the new system clean.

E2 Review

Ease-of-use

It seems as if the program was designed especially for us and all we had to do was fill in the blanks.

Functionality

I have had no problems at all with the program or learning the system in a short amount of time.

Product Quality

E2 always made sure a document was not left open or unfinished before you could close out of a document. It's great for a busy day!

Customer Support

They are always helpful and quick to fix or respond to any problem.

Likes Best

I found E2 easy to work with and fairly easy to work my way around in the program without extra help from our IT dept.

Likes Least

No dislikes. I was moved into the office from the warehouse, and in less than two days, I was up and running at full speed on the program.

Recommendations

Check in with your client every 6-8 weeks to ask if they have any questions or need any help with a program.

I enjoy E2

Ease-of-use

The navigations are all labeled; it only takes one or two tries to find something.

Functionality

I would prefer a more comprehensive system that joins more than one section of management, not just operations.

Product Quality

Design-wise, it is not pretty, but functionally, it does the job.

Customer Support

It is not amazing; it did not blow me away. They are there when we need them, though.

Likes Best

Once I learned the system, I found it easy to get around on. The clock-in system is easy and user-friendly, so it does not take new employees long to grasp that part.

Likes Least

There is a lot of entering to do, and it does not merge with other software easily.

Recommendations

Take full training before you start to use the system and know all of the implications before implementing the system. Changing the whole software can turn a company upside down.

What an Improvement!

Ease-of-use

Everything is up front and center, and it makes it so easy to navigate where you need to go.

Functionality

Great improvements in our purchasing Dept., Shipping, Quality Control, and Manufacturing.

Product Quality

Although I like this software program, there is definitely room for improvement.

Customer Support

Every time I have had to call Tech Support, they have returned my call in a very timely manner if they were not available.

Likes Best

The software is very easy to use, and it makes inventory so much easier than counting by hand! Also, tech support is always available.

Likes Least

Just like all computer software, it freezes up occasionally, and of course, it always seems to happen when you are in a rush.

Recommendations

Take the E2 on-site classes; it really makes it easier to understand.

Review of E2 Shop System

Ease-of-use

Again, a few tweaks to the enlarging columns would be nice.

Functionality

I am primarily the accounting person, and it has met all of my needs.

Product Quality

The overall quality of the E2 Shop System is very good.

Customer Support

The customer support has been great. I usually have had my questions/issues answered on the first call.

Likes Best

I usually only work with the accounting portion of the program. It was a relatively easy process to input all of our records since we are a small company.

Likes Least

I would like to be able to open columns with one click as you can do in Excel.

Recommendations

We compared several programs, so I would recommend that other people do the same.

Best support team I've had

Ease-of-use

I think it's pretty easy software. However, because of the way our company was set up, it's very loose. We did not receive orders; we used to simply place PO's and then enter the invoice. But because the scheduling module requires it (and should), it creates the step of receiving the order. I understand that we are now doing more with the software, so of course, there are going to be more steps. I just wish we had more people in the office to help with the addition of the new capabilities that this software brings.

Functionality

Thus far, it's been pretty good. There was adjustment for the shop employees not being able to see their past clock-ins.

Product Quality

The only problem I've had - and I'm sure it has something to do with something that I've done - is that the software will crash pretty regularly. But because I can open it back up quickly, I just keep moving.

Customer Support

Best support out there. If you're like me, you will love the fact that you can send them emails, and the company will set you up with a key support person. My support person is great. Wish I could name drop.

Likes Best

E2 offers a great amount of support. I wear many hats and am forced to emails as a time management tool. The difference with E2 vs other companies that I have dealt with in the past is that they understand and embrace this. Their company has a great structure to accommodate my needs.

Likes Least

There are some limitations on certain methods. Sales commission could have a method of calculating the commission off the profit of a job.

Recommendations

Use the tech support. It will likely blow all the competition software out the window. Ask questions that are related to your business. If it fits your structure, then you will have the one of the best support teams out there.

E2 System Survey

Ease-of-use

It is easy to use because you can go in and out of it and still keep working

Functionality

It is easy to make shop job travelers. Also, shipping using E2 easy.

Product Quality

No real problems with the system. The overall system works well.

Customer Support

They have really good phone support, and the three days of training was well given.

Likes Best

It is user-friendly. E2 has good phone support, and the three days of training covered a lot.

Likes Least

It puts machining times on job travelers, and also the way you print job travelers isn't great.

Recommendations

Try the system out for your shop needs and make sure it covers all your needs. If you can, go to someone that is already using it.

We use E2 for operations

Ease-of-use

I find it difficult to extract certain types of reports. Although I can find the information, I can't put it into report form.

Functionality

We have found it difficult to extract certain reports. The inventory report not being able to back date has been a challenge.

Product Quality

It's cumbersome and ugly, although there is a lot of information available to extract.

Customer Support

They are only a phone call away, and you get to speak to a real person!

Likes Best

There is a lot of available information in the system. The ability to see all purchase orders, invoices, open purchase orders, closed purchase orders, etc.. for a job quickly as been difficult. The front page is easy to navigate.

Likes Least

Being able to drill down into numbers on reports. The old fashion look.

Recommendations

Look for thorough, deep seated, easily understood software.

E2 is a botique software for assembly and machining shops

Ease-of-use

It doesn't have links in the software to other pages. It does have multiple screens.

Functionality

When we purchased the software, it suited our needs. Since the recession, our company was forced to change directions, so it doesn't suit it as well.

Product Quality

For what you pay, this software is a good value. It is not super expensive compared to a lot of cloud programs, and they have a good customer service team.

Customer Support

They always attend to tickets, and normally, they respond very quickly.

Likes Best

They have very tight and controllable inventory and mechanic settings. You can tell who is where and how much product is being used so job costing is accurate. They have a good inventory tracking so you can have items in very specific bins that can be counted.

Likes Least

It is server-based and not overly modern. It is a little clunky for working if you compare to QuickBooks. There is a lot of training required to get going on the software because it is not overly user-friendly.

Recommendations

Make sure this software fits your needs. Review your needs and the capabilities of the software before moving forward. Make sure you pay for all the training you need, as you will pay for it in efficiency if you don't in training.

Worth consideration.

Ease-of-use

Functionality

Product Quality

It's designed to fit with other software we're using. E2 is easy to integrate and maintain.

Customer Support

They are responsive and encouraging, and they're able to instruct without being condescending.
