Constant Contact provides a range of intuitive marketing applications designed to help small businesses and nonprofits expand their customer bases and nurture relationships. Solutions include email marketing, event marketing, social campaigns and reporting, survey management and offer management—all of which are available either independently or as part of an integrated suite called the Constant Contact Toolkit.

Constant Contact’s email marketing application allows businesses to import customer data from spreadsheets or email clients, such as Gmail and Microsoft Outlook. Email sign-up forms can be personalized and embedded on Web pages or on Facebook to capture new contacts and build email lists. This system offers hundreds of customizable email templates with drag-and-drop elements, and includes real-time reporting features to track email opens, clicks, forwards, social shares and more.

Finally, Constant Contact offers both online and in-person seminars and trainings designed to help small businesses improve their marketing efforts. Some have registration fees, but many are free to attend.

I've used constant contact for about 5 years. Having experience with other programs in the past, I can say that this one is a breeze. It's incredibly simple to create awesome, professional-looking publications. It's easy to edit. I can import my contact list from my CRM and reach out to 1,000s of people in an instant. Or, I can schedule the newsletter to go out on a specific time and date. It's that easy. The app lets me track my open and click through rates, and the program handles my opt-outs. I highly recommend Constant Contact.

Constant Contact is easy to use for all of your email marketing and survey needs. For less than $100, they will even create a customized template for your use. Price of subscription varies depending on your contact list, but it's very affordable. Not-for-profits receive a discount and if you pre-pay, there's an even better discount.

We used Constant Contact for approx 8 months - it works well enough, it's email templates were ok, but it's html editor was good enough to get the job done. Things were fine - until we wanted to add some names from other sources.

Nope. it's against the terms of use to add names purchased from other lists. You're only permitted to add names collected from your own website or people that opt-in.

In other words, you can only keep talking to people you already know.
Not great to pay for a tool to talk to your friends - hard to get new business that way.

Easy to use, pretty solid reporting

Not allowed to import contact lists - you can only talk to people you already know.

Advice to Others

Think through your marketing strategy and how you want to use this tool BEFORE you get wrapped up in making this a major part of your toolkit. Solid for what it does, but make sure you're not hoping for more.

I use the product to send invitations and email reminders to people we are inviting to up and coming events. I enjoy the overall idea of the product but wish they had some other options for users to choose from.

Pros

Need to have more explanations as far as the invitation and sign ups are concerned it is hard to understand what the landing page is and if the items are being emailed or if they are just hitting at social media levels.

Cons

not enough lay out options for marketing flyers and invitations

Advice to Others

I like the program and would definitely recommend it to someone with a small business or who is just starting the auto email venture.

I have used Constant Contact for the past 5 years as a weekly email newsletter generator and also for reminder notices for our organizations database. It has worked great for us as a tool for communication that is creative and innovative rather than generic. I would suggest training and ongoing support set up prior to contracting. It seems to work best for small to mid-sized organizations but has suited us wonderfully. Was disappointed that they changed ability to put on social media to an cost base rather than offered for free like they had in the past.

Pros

Setup is pretty simple.
Pretty stream lined.
Interactive.

Cons

Costs for add-on's is a bit high.

Advice to Others

If you are wanting to send out weekly marketing information at a good price and desire something that is easy to use then this is the tool for you.

Constant contact is full of features that are great for marking my business. The interface is very easy to use.

Constant Contact does a great job of managing multiple groups/list and lots of contacts. I've worked with clients who have a large customer base and Constant Contact allows managing large amounts of group/lists and allows you to manual remove unsubscribers and errors. They are rolling out a new version of their email builder, but the older version does allow custom css coding per block which really allows customizing their templates.

There are a lot of quirks within Constant Contact that I haven't seen in Mailchimp, specifically with using external links for photos and links. The actual editing of text and links within the email builder is quirky and has some issues. Also, the new search feature for previous emails is really slow and takes a long time to find previous emails unless you create folders for all your emails.

Recommendations

Give it a try along with Mailchimp and see which one you find better useful for your business. I've used Constant Contact for 5+ years and have a lot of experience with it, but its starting to show its age in many ways. Hopefully the newer version will bring it up to par with Mailchimp in the line of creating emails and removing some of the quirks.

It's expensive considering what it is and you can get others which are free.

Recommendations

Check out the long list and pick the format you are most comfortable with, definitely add a contact list and build a test run to see the pains of each one.

I've been using Constant Contact for almost 10 years. We had a modest mail list when we started with CC, but we slowly converted many of those customers as email popularity grew. Constant Contact made the transition easy, and continues to make other updates to marketing trends painless as well. I especially like the seamless incorporation of posting to social media. Saves a lot of time, and allows you to run very cohesive campaigns.

I just always swallowed and paid the bill for the service. Maybe with the new rollout of more an a la carte service the price will flatten out? I also had issues with sizing and placement images from time to time, but nothing I couldn't work around.

Recommendations

Don't be afraid to try all the bells and whistles; they're there for you to look more professional and most things work very well in Constant Contact. Also, TAKE THEIR CLASSES! You learn so much from other customers' issues and trials.

Wish it had more functions that we also use in our business such as e-commerce or a lead generation process. Also wish it had a free period such as Mail Chimp that offers the first 2000 contacts for free. I have lots of clients who could use that feature to start their business then grow with you.

The templates are well thought-out and there is one for every angle! I especially appreciate the templates that cater to mobile device users. Everything is thought of for you, so all you have to do is add your personalised information. The reports generated by Constant Contact clearly show who opens your e-mail, what they click on and how to better read your audience. E-mails are also easily shared on social media.

Excited when I became a marketing partner and user. Functionality ultimately was cumbersome. No client dashboard and hard to manage. I recently returned to my account looking to move forward. I found the support less than enthusiastic and not particularly professional. My standards are high.

I was an earlier user and reseller; with training. Ultimately, I found it to be cumbersome in client management and ultimately in the software facility itself. I was a bit hard to use. I was going to upgrade my account, but have found more functional and easy to use programs.
