We love how simple it is to build email prospecting campaigns. The tool provides great analytics which is extremely useful for my team to determine if our campaigns were effective or if we need to make adjustments. A bit of training is required to get the hang of utilizing and it does require a strong knowledge/background in HTML.

If you are an enterprise company, Oracle Eloqua is the platform for you. The choices after that seem to take into account sacrificing certain aspects of marketing automation in exchange for a lower cost. If you want a scalable tool, this is the one for you. They have years on their closest competitor which means a lot more integration experience and native connections than possible with other tools. For an SMB, you have a lot of options in the space and using Eloqua might be like driving a Ferrari to pick up groceries; however, they have a pricing model and edition trim for SMB, as well. You don't have to drive the Ferarri, there is a grocery-getter, as well.

I have used the tool for 8 years mostly in conjunction with Salesforce.com and the integration between those two systems is cake-walk. The amount of time these two have been partners really shows in it's native connectivity strength. I have also setup other CRM's which have become easier to do, as well.

Eloqua is Software-as-a-Service and is constantly being patched and upgraded, so naturally there are some quirks and bugs. I understand this. If I wanted static software that was bulletproof, I would buy a CD. Hang tight and these issues will get resolved. 8 years of experience with Eloqua is telling you this.

One area that has fallen behind is the Support, due to the Oracle acquisition. Telephone Support just isn't the same as the good old days. The turn around times are not quick as before and as a result, do not get resolved as quickly. Luckily, I do not need to call very often.

Recommendations

Do your due diligence and meet with a consultant if necessary. LEAD2CRM is a good one to use.

Great for optimizing marketing processes in large organizations. A large company that I have been consulting with uses Oracle and it has totally streamlined their processes as it relates to lead scoring and more robust and relevant email campaigns.

Default browser issues, cost and learning curve. Updates can cause issues also. Just be prepared.

Recommendations

Expensive but worth it. Thoroughly evaluate your company's needs and PLAN accordingly. Learn all that you can about this software to get your money's worth. If you don't have the team and bandwidth definitely consider and research other options.

I loved the advancement of Compendium. It gave us everything we needed to run an award winning blog program. They offered great support and my CSM was amazing! They took enhancement requests seriously and you saw the product improve consistently. I had over 100 writers I was managing, and the workflows were CRITICAL.

I wish there was more flexibility in specific features (such as the ability to create custom tracking rules for shared posts).

Recommendations

Figure out what you need in terms of content management. Compendium may or may not be more than you need. Also keep in mind that they can run just the back end and workflows of your content program, you don't have to use their publishing platform. They're flexible to make sure you get the solution you need.

The campaign canvas is a great solution to build your campaigns. Oracle Marketing Cloud has a great vision on Modern Marketing (e.g. great support from their customer success team) and together with their tools you will be able to accelerate your marketing.

There are some Eloqua 9 interfaces in the product which are not very user friendly. I also dislike it does not optimally use default browser functionality (e.g. open in new tab).

Recommendations

Decide what you want to achieve in two years time and see if the Marketing Automation tool you are looking at can help you reach your goals. I would also recommend you try to experience the tool before buying and determine if feel comfortable working with it.
And... see what sort of training is on offer as it is essential for a great start.

The Eloqua suite is very powerful and has brilliant support resources like Topliners and the Eloqua University. With the reward and badge system in Topliners, it really encourages you to learn as much as possible. As a novice user always looking for information, the training and support areas are solid as are the community resources.

There are some glitches here and there when campaign building. Updates can cause outage periods. There are small bugs within fields, which means additional clicks.

Recommendations

Since the acquisition by Oracle, access to support has changed. It used to be that you could call in and talk to a rep, who would talk you through any problem on the spot. Now it's necessary to submit a ticket through the ticketing system, and most of the interaction is done over the web. They have been able to resolve all problems still, so the process is different, but it's not necessarily better or worse.

Recommendations

The space is highly aggressive, and some other vendors will use questionable tactics (such as spreading FUD, using high-pressure tactics, dropping first-year pricing, and then jacking up license fees in the future) in an effort to win your business. Stay focused on matching your business needs to the value provided by the vendor. For us, that meant stellar support and training, powerful segmentation, and flexible campaign logic. Eloqua has delivered in every way.
