RevolutionEHR Software

RevolutionEHR is a cloud-based electronic health record (EHR) solution built specifically for optometry practices. RevolutionEHR includes a complete EHR, medical billing, patient scheduling, medical accounting and a picture archiving system. RevolutionEHR also offers a personal health record for patients, allowing them access to appointments, billing, prescriptions, and other important information.

RevolutionEHR is 2014 ONC-ATCB certified and comes with a built-in FDA medication database. The practice management feature helps practices to manage scheduling, billing and accounting. The solution can also be used to handle claims submissions, store medical records and manage documents, among others. A personal health record portal for patients enables them to track appointments, build medication history, make payments, receive appointment reminders and send text messages to their doctors.

RevolutionEHR is primarily suitable for small and midsize practices, corporate affiliates, multi-location practices, and specialty groups. Pricing is modeled with a one-time setup fee followed by a monthly subscription fee for each registered user.

At first RevolutionEHR was a little overwhelming and we were wondering if we made the wrong decision. After a couple of weeks of learning the system and working with customer service...we are very happy with the results

Pros

You are able to change the system to benefit your office.

Cons

Program seems to run slow on certain days

My experience with this software has been mixed but overall I dislike the product. There are some good features, but for what I needed this software has not been a great fit.

Pros

The product is customizable. The cost is good. It is easy to install and start up because it is cloud based like most software today. Minimized IT costs. The one-click normal button is good for when you have a routine exam.

Cons

The software is good if most of your patients are routine eye care exams with a very little disease. The more you have to document in terms of disease and diagnosis, the more it slows you down. It also doesn't flow as well going through the exams. For instance, I have to click on another section to finalize the exam instead of being able to okay the glasses prescription from one section. You must go through training in order to learn to fully use this software because it is not as intuitive as some other software options that are available. The customer service is not easy to reach in an urgent situation. The customer service usually has to call you back after you have left a message. Some other software has more management reports to review than Revolution EHR.

Advice to Others

If your main concern is to obtain a product that is easy to set up and low cost then this may be good for you. Especially if you primarily see routine eye exams with not much ocular disease. I would test it for several weeks prior to making a purchase to see if it works for you.

It is web based which makes it very convenient when you have multiple locations.
It is easy to customize your templates.

Pros

It is web based.
It is a good value for the features it offers.
It is good for a medical based practice

Cons

Appearance is dull without usage of color and contrast - No exam- draw feature to indicate pathology in an illustrative format.

Advice to Others

Take the time to create your own communication templates if that is important for you. The process is very easy to customize once you know your way around the admin tab.

It is very easy to use and navigate. We have been using it for a little over a year, so much easier to use compared to our previous system. I really like how you can pull previous information. However, sometimes if you don't hit the next button it deletes the information. Not all information seems to transfer over all the time.

Pros

Easy to navigate and find information

Cons

Contact section is unorganized and confusing

Me and my staff have been using Revolution EHR for only 2 weeks... We love it already!
Phone support is top-notch, professional, and effective.
Rev EHR has been a great office partner and tool for us.

Pros

Customization to office needs. User friendly. Practice management functions and EHR are all on one dashboard, one program. Each patient has a dashboard that includes all possible steps that need to be taken with that patient/encounter.

Cons

Would like to be able to fax documents directly from EHR.

Portability and aggressive updates. They listen to their clients and are supportive in our criticism. It's a great product.

Still has flash and limited mobile ability That is all that needs to be said.

Recommendations

Easily adapts to a wide variety of 3rd party vendors. At some point the system will be written in html 5 and the flash will be gone.
My only real complaint is the limited ability to customize templates and lack of a editable global demographic header that is visible at all times. Have to search out age, key systemic conditions such as Diabetes and Glaucoma is a pain. Too many tabs. But compared to other products, this is by far the best I've seen and its always a work in progress.

There is nothing good to say. I wish I could have a positive point but I do not.

This program is a complete mess starting with the inventory function. Complete and total disaster. To add to this disaster, they use Frames Data program which is completely incorrect and has messed up our inventory so bad. When I talk to customer support about this they always say "We know its a problem and hopefully in a future update we will fix it". ALSO, they have a section of inventory for sunglasses and you cannot enter the eye size and color. Its ridiculous. Customer service told me I have to enter sunglasses in both regular frame inventory AND in sunglasses inventory. When I run inventory reports they don't tell me color and size so when I print off the list I have to manually figure out if I really have 2 of the same frames and what colors they are.

Next issue is how much clicking and not user friendly the software is. I waste a ton of time clicking through things that other programs have easily displayed on one page. It doesn't make any sense. I waste so so so much time every day.

Recommendations

Please do not get this! I dread working every day because of it.

Cloud based, thus integrated into every system. Really does have a lot of feature. Their support team is ACTUALLY there during transition and after (so far, went live 2 weeks ago).

Likes Least

While you can modify everything, you can't modify it easily on the fly. On the phone with an established patient booking an appointment and want to change their phone number? Not just highlight and change. Click name, click name AGAIN to take you to the "Patient" pod, open their demographics pod, click Edit (almost hidden graphically in the bottom right) to be able to type, change, click Update, go back to the schedule, totally one click. Also lacks easy to see overviews for information. Want to see a patient's name, address, phone number, and insurance in one tight screen? Nope, separate. Want to see a slate of the day's patients with a live update of where in their exam process they are? Nope, not there. Want a simple end-of-day report that has all the reports you would print out in one click (maybe two - check it, then print?) So far, haven't found that one. Lots of reports in lots of menus and lots of buttons to click.

Recommendations

It'll work ok, multiple docs will certainly find multiple doc compatibility. Unfortunately, it seems to make what previously was simple complicated and the complicated stays complicated. It feels a half a step behind a modern, easy-to-use interface.

The Amazing Revolution EHR

Revolution EHR is a great electronic health record management system that allows for total office integration. Revolution EHR leaves nothing behind when it comes to managing patient records, accounting, billing, coding, optical orders, medical orders, insurance, inventory management, reports, etc. Revolution EHR gives the office the ability to do everything for all their patients and it streamlines workflow for better efficiency and productivity. Another great benefit to Revolution EHR is that it is a cloud-based system meaning their is no software needed to take up vital hard drive space and it can be accessed from any computer anywhere that you are. This allows for your doctors to communicate about patients even if they are out of the office and it allows managers to pull reports from home if needed.

Likes Least

The downside to Revolution EHR is that it has a learning curve like most new programs being implemented into an office. revolution EHR requires some time to get used to and even after a few years of using it you will learn something new. But this is not so much a negative as it is a positive. Revolution EHR provides a "sandbox mode" that allows the office to utilize all the features of Revolution EHR, but without the real-world risks of inputting wrong data. It encourages you to make mistakes and to learn form them. Revolution EHR is also updating their systems constantly to streamline the patient care process and in doing so that is why you learn something new.

Recommendations

When evaluating EHR systems you need to keep in mind what it is that you are trying to accomplish as an office. If you need a system that can do it all then Revolution EHR is one of a few other systems that can do that for your office. If you need less than that then consider other options. The objective is to remember what it is you want to gain from your EHR software. Another thing to keep in mind is if other software companies are keeping up with the ever changing legalities of medical records and keeping in compliance with HIPPA as well as Meaningful Use compliance. Revolution EHR is 100% on top of all of this and more, thus I recommend it for every office.

As my title states, this is my first venture into the vast odyssey of EHRs, so it is difficult to compare to other options other than all the demos I endured prior to making my decision. I can say that Customer Service for RevolutionEHR could not be better! Our Setup Trainer was always just an email away and always had the answer I needed for the given situation.

Likes Least

The only problem I have encountered is that sometimes RevolutionEHR will time-out your session while in the midst of entering data on an encounter. There was a recent update (just last night), and I hope this problem was resolved. I must follow that up by saying that it has not been enough of a problem to contact Customer Service.

Recommendations

Again, it's hard for me to compare one EHR to another. For me, however, it was a comparison of overall features vs cost. The amazing Customer Service was also impossible to pass up.

Customer service is great, and it's very easy to use. I also like the structure and flexibility of Revolution EHR. The structure is good for offices who have never used a web-based platform, and the flexibility is necessary for offices as they feel more comfortable customizing the product to meet your needs. Revolution EHR is great for small offices and large offices alike.

Likes Least

Customer service hours are not as convenient for West Coast offices as they close by 4:30 PST. This is not terrible, but it's always at the end of the day when we have some downtime to call.

Recommendations

If you are in the optometric field, Revolution EHR provides the best value for the amount of dollars being spent to use the program. Don't forget to ask about the add-ons when evaluating all programs, including Revolution EHR.

We've been with Revolution EHR for more than a year now. There are some things the software really excels at and others which are very lacking. Being cloud based, the interruptions in service are minimal (servers go down maybe 2x/year for a matter of a few hours typically). The doctor's side with MU and ICD 10 are fantastic. They made ICD 10 a non-event.
The biggest drawback to this software, as mentioned by another reviewer is the accounting/billing side of the software. I could not think of a more cumbersome and inefficient way to do things. The incessant "drag and drop" method of carrying charges over to separate parties is very very time consuming. If you are thinking of leaving Compulink (as we did) this is the biggest drawback. Also, there is NO AUTOPOSTING of payments. We were told when we signed up this would become available soon..... it did, as a separate paid service called RevCycle, which amounts to thousands of extra dollars in an already rather expensive software.

The Rev Development has been taking ages to convert the software to an HTML format, and they seemed so focused on adding additional pay services that none of us are really that interested in using. If I could do it over again, I wouldn't have left Compulink for Revolution, but if I were to try and switch again, my staff would mutiny. I'll hang in there with Rev for another 3-4 months, but may switch again if I see no improvement or implementation of autoposting insurance payments.

Pros

Cloud based features

Cons

Billing and payment posting

Advice to Others

Don't consider this software until they've re-written everything into HTML.

We used this EHR at my practice in San Diego. We were just getting ready to start using the medical records portion, so really we only used the practice management side, which was phenomenal. I've used lots of EHRs before but I'm confident Rev is at the top of my list. Great support as well which is important with new software.

Pros

Easy to schedule patients, great "at a glance views", it's really snappy, fast and overall responsive. Having the mobile app is key!

Cons

I think I had to get used to using it, but I don't think that's the softwares fault. Being new to cloud based EHRs can be tricky but not impossible. Learning curve is fine overall...

Advice to Others

Take your time when going paperless and use their support team to make life easier.

Pros: Personalizing Prodcuts and Inputting Custom Data like Employees, Vendors, Products, etc!

Cons: Billing is a nightmare. Authorizing them, then dragging them to one payee or another, then transferring part to the insurance or patient, and discounting is generic and hard per line item. Not a fan...I use Officemate at my other office and can bill a invoice in 1/4 the time.
