A slowly dying zombie app - innovation has stalled

Switch to microsoft one note - it's free, great, and actually continues to innovate.

Pros

It's such an old app that it has integrations to many other enterprise apps like salesforce, gmail, chrome, and many others. Works well with scanning apps, and has a decent system for tagging notes.

Cons

UI is confusing and hasn't been updated for years. Evernote annoyingly keeps trying to push you to use Evernote workchat, which is a worthless app that nobody uses and is about 100% worse than sharing notes over email. Evernote webclipper is incredibly buggy and completely fails to clip web pages half the time.

Pros

Evernote helps you get organized. Works well on both Mac and PC. The app is great, too. It really helps me stay organized and lets me access my files quickly. The storage is fantastic. The basic (free) option is amazing. I'm not sure why they don't charge for this because it would still be worth paying something for it. The Web Clipper extension for Chrome is what I like most. Try it, you may never bookmark or snip again.

Cons

I've had a little trouble with the app, but never with the web version. That's fine for me, but the mobile app version has not been as functional for me.

I think it is one of the best products to support productivity

Pros

The thing I appreciate most is the ability to have clipboards, files, images, and synced documents in any device I own regardless of what it generates

Cons

There are no shortcuts for simple commands in the PC version. If they were, they would be very comfortable because it would make it easier to use

Pros

I like that is easy to use and share files with my fellow employees. It is much simpler than having a established network for file sharing and organization.

Cons

I hate that it is not compatible with Excel and that any formatted tables loose their formatting and aren't viewed well on the phone app.

I just love how easy it is to use Evernote on every device and how simple it is to tag and organize all my information in diffferent folders. I am premium user and love every part of it.

Cons

Can't find any, really. Maybe it be faster to sync from the mobile app and work on some issues regarding privacy. But I know the Evernote team is working on it.

Value for Money

Overall this is by far the best way for creative people to index ideas. Have you ever written down an idea, created a melody, or taken a photo or video of something that inspired you only to be lost in the bottom of a note pad or photo album? Evernote will not only collect almost every medium you want to catalog, it allows you search and catalog them and even join ideas together that you never thought of.

Pros

Shares across all your devices. Search capabilities are incredible. It will even recognize text in photos.

Cons

They don't seem to listen to their community and take on some obvious feedback about color coding folders.

If you have a Mac, you need Evernote. My favorite feature is the elephant in the upper right corner that lets you open a new note with one click and start typing. I don't use post-its anymore. Absolutely love everything about Evernote. The only thing I'd change is to add the ability to archive notes.

Pros

Simple to use. Robust in features. Drag and drop images in and out. Take screenshots easily (I use this feature daily). Best in the business.

Cons

Needs the ability to archive a note. Otherwise, perfect.

Evernote is an incredible platform for any productive person who wants to keep safe, convenient notes.

Cons

Advice to Others

If you're looking for something to rely on, take some time to figure out how you best use it and start putting everything into it. The more you put in it the more you get out: things written are things planned.

Reliable Software but Not Unique

I started using Evernote several years ago as an easy way to take notes during meetings and seminars and keep track of Client tasks and projects. I'd been using Google Drive/Docs for several years prior, but wanted to start fresh with something new. While it worked for me for a while, I soon found that my needs outpaced the features offered by Evernote, and I started using it less and less. Eventually, I moved all of my project management over to Basecamp instead, because it simply offered more features and integrations that I needed to run my business.

Pros

At the time I made heavy use of Evernote, I was able to easily sync notes on my tablet, phone, laptop, and PC automatically. I also liked being able to organize notes into notebooks so I could quickly find things.

Cons

The Windows tablet/touchscreen laptop app was buggy and somewhat annoying to use. The layout and organization were very different from the mobile and desktop apps. Also, recently, the free account no longer allows as many devices as I had originally hooked up. It lacks some of the features that more robust project management software have as standard features.

Advice to Others

I think Evernote is great if you need to take notes and create on-the-fly to-do lists. However, there are much better solutions out there for both of those things. For my day-to-day needs, I've replaced Evernote entirely with Basecamp.

I use Evernote every single day and have found it to be a quality product. I started using Evernote two years ago and ran into some issues with the software freezing and shutting down unexpectedly. I stopped using it for a while but my alternative, Mac Notes, wasn't cutting it. I gave Evernote another shot and it has been great ever since. I regularly update and no longer experience freezing or unexpected shutdown issues.

I use the software for the most basic note-taking, but I know it also offers many features that can be helpful for many types of users. I recommend the software to all of my colleagues and anyone in need of a note-taking application.

Pros

The ease of use and reliability is great. The updates are quick and work in the background, so they don't disrupt my current work.

Cons

No cons at this time.

Advice to Others

This product offers lots of features that can be helpful for organization and collaboration, but it is also great for basic note-taking.

The software is fairly intuitive and easy to use; I like the ios app because it allows you to use the task management aspects of Evernote anywhere.

I move between client offices about half the time and find that having an electronic task list is extremely helpful; I also use the clipping function frequently to capture research that I'm doing for my newsletter or for a client project.

The Chrome extension works extremely well; I haven't had the same success with FireFox;

Evernote is a better alternative to keeping bookmarks, open browser windows or copying to a Word doc - the way I used to capture research for later use;

Likes Least

I sometimes have trouble figuring out how to use Evernote with different browers to clip items of interest

Recommendations

If you're into the task management use of Evernote then I recommend David Allen's short paper on implementing his system GTD in Evernote;

I've been using Evernote for almost one year and it is simply amazing. As a small business owner my day is a whirlwind of tasks ranging from management to marketing to maintenance and with Evernote I can stay organized without slowing down. Not only can I do the usual note taking, task lists, etc. but my notes are automatically organized and synced across my devices! And whenever I come across something online, with Evernote I can save it with just the push of my thumb. From pics to videos, audio, whatever, Evernote has me covered! Evernote won me with its ease of use, speed, and connectivity. I not only use Evernote for business, I use it for personal organization as well. Evernote is fire!

Likes Least

Evernote really is a brilliant app that knows no bounds. The only feature I would add is a task list. I can create one and that works fine but task list template would be sweet.

Recommendations

Evernote is in a class of its own. I have not found another app that seamlessly combines note taking, organization, file saving & sharing (any kind of file) like Evernote. Evernote has a free version so try it out!

The biggest problem with Evernote - and this is a BIG problem - is: they have no method for removing duplicates. And, while on first glance this might not seem like a big deal, I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 50,000 files in Evernote. Imagine trying to go through 50,000 records manually, looking for duplicate records to remove.

I use Evernote daily. I use the windows desktop app and iphone app. On the whole, both work pretty well and offer a nice suite of features. However, the desktop app is buggy, and can be cumbersome to edit text. The iphone app is comprehensive, which is good and bad; I'd recommend they find a way to make some things easier with in the app (e.g., tabbing or adding bullets for text) or just remove the feature (because having it creates a clunky experience)

Pros

My critical factor for using Evernote is to help me stay organized on a daily basis.. Second, it is easy to use and where I do not have to explore for a long time how to use it. I do not have to send emails now and then to my team because it gets synchronized!

Pros

It is definitely easy to navigate-which is the most important thing for me. I also love the fact that I can access this in both my laptop and my android phone. My daily journal is more meaningful as I am able to attach media to help me visualize that day. It is also a light program and the loading time is quick. This is also perfect for the team when sending out meeting minutes, ideas and getting feed back.

Cons

Evernote suits my need to the point where I cannot point a pros on this software. Probably, one thing that can be added is a calendar and a reminder.

Pros

Evernote has set the bar for online notetaking (both on desktop/laptops and on mobile devices). For personal use, highly recommended. Offline access to your notes is a huge bonus! If, however, you're considering the Business (paid) version of Evernote, good for basic note collaboration, but beyond that it falls a bit short and drops from good/great to meh.

Cons

The layout of notebooks as it relates to document management is clunky at best (a key feature for most business users I'd think). Not as intuitive as one would expect from a company that's been around for awhile. Beyond basic note collaboration, shared work environments are tricky and take some patience to learn how to use. If you need a truly nimble document management app (not just note taking), you'll likely have to look elsewhere.

Extremely useful for daily notations and to organise ideas and insights. You just create a note and start writing your thoughts.

Really practical when you are working on some task, but you need to write a reminder for a third topic, or just store a link of an interesting website that you want to read in a near future.

I use Evernote as a native desktop application, as well on my smartphone. And you have the flexibility to access your notes using your Evernote account in any browser via the website.

Cons

A killer note taking system with custom folders that rock. It's the easiest business collaboration tool that people will actually use! Basically organize your company with custom projects, by folder and store every single piece of info you every need.

Pros

You really only need one paid user and you can create customer folders that enable notes to be shared with any free user.

Cons

It's pretty killer overall but easier folder nesting would be a nice bonus. And there used to be a folder sync limit, so I always delete folders when creating new ones. Perhaps this was fixed. Can you tell I'm a folder freak!

Oh yes, there used to be a note back and forth button. Gone now. This REALLY is lame that it's not present because jumping around notes is very common and going to the previous note is a pain.

Advice to Others

Collaborate the easiest way ever!

Pros

- Easy to learn how to use, low learning curve
- Free
- Leading note taking app
- Constant improvement

Cons

Not useful

1. Loading time is long compared to native apps from Apple / Xiaomi etc. Waiting those seconds when you want to take a note quickly gets annoying after a few times.
2. Mostly I am using Gmail or FB Messenger, or on Upwork. Easier to use their current features to take notes instead of opening another window and login.
