Slack Software

Slack is a web-based project collaboration and team interaction tool designed to facilitate communication across organizations. The solution caters to various industries, including media, research, technology, education, financial services, retail, transport and logistics.

Slack provides public channels for members across organizations to start conversations. Private channels enable interaction within smaller teams, and direct channels help send messages directly to colleagues.

Slack incorporates feeds from social media into the application and blends them with ongoing conversations in various channels. Files such as PDFs, images, documents and spreadsheets can be shared via drag and drop.

Slack archives messages, notifications, files (as well as the contents of files) and projects, all of which can be searched for later. Slack allows users to customize their notifications and reduce their scope. All changes are reflected in the native applications available for iOS and Android.

Great internal workplace tool for quick communication

Ease-of-use

Functionality

N/A
Pros

Drastically cuts down on time spent writing formal emails strictly for internal use, curbs interruptions in work from people just popping in, allows for "off-topic" chats to be separated into specific channels

Cons

on occasion I go to complete a task and I find the necessary action unintuitive. Threads on pictures just do not work at all.

I also wonder if there could be a read option installed. So you can see when your slack message has been seen by the recipient. Otherwise, I really enjoy the application and use is daily.

Pros

What I like most about this product is the convenience factor. I use the software for work to communicate with co-workers, send messages, links, documents. Everything is received immediately and the history is always there for reference. It makes it extremely easy to communicate and makes me hate email. (Too slow. :)) It also has a mobile app so you can stay connected even when you are not at a computer.

Cons

I would say what I like least is the signing on / logging into your team process. If I do get logged out, I have to go through this process of entering my team or slack URL, putting in my email, and sometimes when setting up new employees on the system, it can be a pain. Just not as efficient as the rest of the system.

Pros

Great way to collaborate with team members in project groups or just as a chat feature.
I especially like how it pulls website details and attachments into the system so well
The app and notifications are also great and act almost like a text messaging system

Cons

I found the help bot a bit bothersome but otherwise, I greatly enjoy using the software
No issues with bugs or options not working.

Slack for the win

Slack is the best. It totally changed the way our company communicates. I would recommend it to anyone.

Pros

I love Slack! It is our primary form of communication in our office. It's significantly cut down on the amount of emails we send, and the channels make it so easy to categorize things. I saw a dramatic difference in the morale and cohesiveness of our team as well. The giphy extension is fun, and the lunch train is useful for us too. They're constantly adding new features. We use it for our HQ team, but also to connect 22 locations across the country. I don't know how we ever operated without it.

Cons

I honestly can't think of anything. It does only store 10,000 messages at a time, and we send a lot of messages so that's a bummer. But it's free so we can't complain about it.

Pros

Pros

This is one of the best, if not the best instant messenger around. We use this on a daily basis to chat and send files, it's so easy to use and my favorite is the group messaging, you can set it up to notify you when your name or key words that you choose are used.

Cons

There is a limit to the amount of storage space, which makes me go through and delete memes, pictures, and files that I send(I believe you can get more space with a paid subscription).

My small team had tried tools like Asana, but couldn't by force or threats or shame get them to reliably use it. These ended up just being burdens and causing resentment among those who did use it. I was reluctant to add a new tool, but soon Slack because the end all be all.

Pros

Easy to use, customizeable, and smooth. Most importantly, the barrier to use is very very small. Our team went from 0 to 60 in a couple weeks, and before long they were using it for everything. In it 24 hours, using all the custom emojis, using it for personal ... etc. Slack became a verb very quickly.

Cons

The paid plan price is insane. Thankfully the free plan has plenty of features, so it's not a problem, but I was ready to shout "shut up and take my money" to Slack, until I found out the cost, which seems to be available only to major companies.

GO Team Slack

Pros

Lots of built-in features and many handy ad-ons available. Organizes communication well with groups and channels, previews media in a helpful way, handles file transfers well, mobile app works seamlessly, does reactions and emojis well.

Cons

It would be nice if the UI offered a true dark color theme, with light text over dark backgrounds. I would be much easier on the eys.

Nothing, I really like it!

Pros

Fun and effective way to share information, create discussions, and engage employees about topics related and unrelated to work.

Cons

I wish there was a database of GIF vs having them randomized! Though it's nice that now you get to choose if you wanna share the randomized one. Pinned posts should float to the top of a channel.
I wish there were preferred "group" messages. It feels like you either have to create a channel or choose the same group of people to start a conversation. A "favorites" feature would be nice for this.

Slack really is the future of communication. Dig into the deeper features. Check out the integrations. You will be a believer soon. :)

Pros

Slack will single handedly make your team more efficient than it has ever been. With Bots, teams, channels and administrative features, it's basically the center of our companies functions .

Cons

Slack can be a time suck. Basically everyone can be reached all the time. But I would have to argue that the alternative is that no one can be reached ever, which is much worse.

Quick and easy responses from your team and entire company.

Pros

The best part about slack is the ability to contact individuals, teams, clients, or even the entire company at one time. This eliminates the confusion of whos who and who is part of which team. Messages are sent almost instantly and when offline messages are saved so that you can resend them later.

Cons

Because of the openness and freedom that comes from slack, it's hard to control what employees talk about in each "channel". Employees tend to feel the need to go off topic or talk about another connected topic in places that shouldn't belong. For example, my sales team sometimes decides to talk about sensitive account management information forgetting that some sales members do not have access to that sensitive information.

Increased productivity in and outside of the office, better communication across all departments in my agency.

Pros

Love the customization of notification preferences per channel! Love the mobile app as well- it's by far the easiest, most user friendly business app I use and I actually look forward to using it. My remote productivity when at the doctor, airport, golfing with clients, whatever, has increased exponentially because of how efficient the Slack mobile app is.

Cons

This might just happen to me, but I have to download a "more recent" version of slack at least twice a week to my laptop. And every time I do, I swear it must be user error, and maybe my Mac just isnt' syncing correctly. It's really frustrating but I can't seem to fix the issue.

Team collaboration done right.

Pros

It has all the things you need. It is also available in all platforms which is very important. suitable all kinds of teams from developers to management team.

Cons

the startup guide is a bit confusing. If you are new into this then it may feel strange to you and you might not use all the features available as you don't know how to work with those.

Pros

Slack has become essential to me in order to work remotely with other teams when doing freelance work, couldn't imagine how to do that without it.

Cons

Slack is great for inmediate, day-to-day conversations, but searching past messages or reviewing history and changes can be frustrating.
