The 10 Most Popular Retail POS Products

Taking a physical count of inventory is the bane of independent retailers: It can add hours to the day or take much-needed employees off the floor during busy times. More importantly, mistakes can be very costly in terms of both revenue and customer retention.

Fortunately for retailers, most POS systems on the market today are equipped with inventory management capabilities.

In fact, in a recent analysis of the many POS buyers Software Advice consults for free each year, we found that 77 percent of first-time buyers request software with inventory management functionality—evidence of its positive impact on retail businesses.

For this reason, we determined the most popular retail POS software systems on the market, ranking vendors using user adoption data, brand authority and social followings. All of these systems contain inventory management capabilities, and will enable you to stop wasting hours counting your inventory manually.

To arrive at the rankings above, we analyzed vendors according to the following metrics:

Adoption rate: This factor reflects the number of people using the product on at least a weekly basis. We conducted an original survey of software users to gather this data. We weighted user adoption level the most in calculating overall scores for products.

Online searches for brand: This factor reflects the number of times the product name and related phrases are searched in Google per month. We weighted this factor more than social followers, but less than user adoption.

This factor reflects the number of people who’ve “liked” or “followed” the accounts of the vendor on Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook. We weighted this factor significantly less than the other two factors.

The charts below show the rankings for user adoption, brand search traffic and social media followers. We’ve combined all these rankings into a single score to reveal not only which POS products have the most users, but also what degree of customer loyalty and overall consumer interest these most popular retail POS products have inspired.
