I'm very sorry to say Brightpearl was a failure for us. It's POS is unable to set todays date correctly, as it only goes off the servers date; it's unable to give a figure for the end of day count; and multiple network issues leave us correcting POS entries that showed no payments taken, and long periods when we reverted to pen and paper to serve customers.

The biggest failure is when you don't have a barcode. Searching for red shirt is ok if its "red shirt size 14" - but if it says "shirt red size 14" it can't find it. Even the cheapest open source software can search a database with wildcards, so we end up searching and looking like monkeys in front of our customers.

What we liked was integration with Magento. It was not enough. The ordering system works of stocklevels, but the stocktake system is not live, and you have to stop selling to get a full count and upload using csv. Not good enough in todays market. The backend is very powerful, and ultimately this was it's death nail, as I ended up hiring extra staff just to manage it. The Brightpearl staff won't answer emails for days, and I couldn't get answers.

On top of that it's not cheap. We also had problems with it being too clunky to change operators, and often logging us out of a terminal - but no one else's login would get you back in again - only the one using the terminal when you log out. So this is the situation as at June 2013. I hope they rewrite the whole POS system not just try to fix it.
