CAKE is a point of sale system designed exclusively to meet the unique needs of the restaurant industry; it offers features such as multiple payment acceptance, online ordering, gift cards, and tableside ordering. Menu prices can be adjusted on the fly, even remotely.

The reporting module allows owners and managers to drill into sales reports to find sales by week, day, or hour. Payroll reporting helps users calculate wages and overtime, and sales can even be compared to labor costs every hour. Peak hours tracking and customer tracking are also available on-demand in real time.

The system integrates with third party systems such as PayPal, Xero, Orca, 7Shifts, Quickbooks, and Avero. It is web-based, but an offline mode means users can accept payments even if their Internet connection happens to be down. CAKE offers 24/7 telephone support.

I like its look. Very clean. Easy to program and make on the fly changes to. You can even make changes using your cell phone which is cool.

Cons

Pros

The way it speeds up orders which means more customers in a lot shorter period of time. While I'm cashing the customer out the kitchen already has their ticket.

Cons

Love the system. I honestly do not have anything negative about it. There are no cons. When calling for customer support, my call is answered right away. They are quick to explain any questions I have.

Benefits of good reporting for sales information as well as employee payroll requirements. Also easy to implement and review product pricing.

Pros

Easy to use and cost effective. I like the flexibility that I can pull up data on my home computer. I can get detailed sales reports by item. I really enjoy the fact that the employees can clock in and clock out on the pos system and it tracks their hours which makes payroll easy. I also like that the employees can enter their tips also making the payroll process work well.

Cons

Would like to get historical reports in sequence and not have to break up. there is currently a past 90 days limit.

All daily receipts are recorded through this software. There is no question in regard to the daily sales. It's also used for the employees to clock in & clock out, I use the reports from it all the time.

Pros

Friendly user software. It's not complicated at all. The touch technology is the best! It's easy to set up, easy to learn. CAKE University is always there to help you as well as the support team.

Pros

We have seen an increase in profits, customer service and the reporting ability has helped to make our business better. Both in the front and back of the house. We had been operating on old-fashioned handwritten tickets, implementing this system has benefited us in so many ways. I love the ability to be able to log on from home and see the sales at any given time. In addition, I have been so pleased with the quality of personal customer service I have received from the lead sales manager. He has helped with the initial start up, set up and functionality of the system has provided attention to detail and any hiccups that have ever arisen he has all problems solved quickly and efficiently. I, as well as the staff, find the system pretty intuitive. We have decided to implement online ordering now, and I hope to see an increase in sales. Overall, I am pleased with Cake.

Cons

I am not thrilled with the credit card processing company that we must use, I would prefer to someone else.

Switching to CAKE has made a huge difference for our restaurant. Now that we have offline options, we've saved a lot of money being able to accept credit cards and not having to refuse people without cash. The lower percentage on CAKE payment processing probably saves us thousands a month just in credit card payments alone. Not being able to track labor costs to sales previously created unexpected labor costs for monthly bookkeeping and other systems were just not very dynamic. The credit card swipers never break, which is another problem we had before. The employee tracking has also been really useful and the time audit report has really helped us find payroll fraud. We're definitely seeing a great return on our investment and would recommend it to others.

Cons

When doing monthly bookkeeping you cannot export a sales report broken down for each day, only one day or a selection of days lumped together into one sales totals, so I have to copy each days sales individually into my bookkeeping software, seems like it would be an easy fix for them but no one has listened to my suggestion to make the change.

CAKE is our first POS system and it has made a huge difference from pen and paper. Orders are less complicated and we have easy access to all the information we need for both the restaurant and catering sides of our business (receipts, signatures, credit cards, customer info.) Adjustments to the menu take seconds and there's no paper to lose. Online ordering has increased a lot, orders are going out faster, and of course in restaurant operations efficiency is key. On top of that, we have great reports so we don't have to do math for trends, and it's so easy to learn for new staff. We're really happy overall and would definitely recommend it!

Cons

When the system updates, it will revert back original settings after updates. Some options aren't customizable.

Easy to use, fast and reliable.

Pros

We're coming up on our one-year anniversary with CAKE and I can't think of a single bad thing to say about it. Before CAKE, all of our systems were really hard to upgrade or make any changes. With CAKE, I can do it from home, review reports, and it's so easy for the servers and chefs as well as our customers to read and use. The set up was so easy, we've hardly had any problems, and unlike other places where we've had to make tons of calls and emails without even hearing back from anyone, the CAKE team gets us back up and running immediately, they have never missed a phone call, and they walked me through step by step in a way that was easy to understand. We looked at two other products before choosing this one and have absolutely no regrets. I feel really tied into the core of the restaurant, and they have a lot to do with it. Thanks for making my restaurant run better!

Cons

We had some trouble with splitting tickets. After help from CAKE and their customer service department we implemented additional training in house and the problem has been solved.

I really enjoy the day to day use of the system. Loading the menu was easy, so is learning how to ring in customers and training.
I'm not a huge fan of the reporting aspect. I'd like to be able to close cash in the middle of the day too. Also, I'd like to see a better training system than just computer sessions online.

I manage the tea house at the Japanese Tea Garden located in the Golden Gate Park in SF. The popular tourist venue hosts over 500,000 visitors annually and during busy seasons, the tea house itself serves over 800 guests per day. Before implementing CAKE POS, long line would form to order food and drinks. My old register wasn't fast enough to move the long line, so decided to switch to a cloud-based system.
I am satisfied with the results I've seen with CAKE's POS. I no longer have to spend time reconciling receipts and I can access data and change menu items easily. After switching to CAKE, my long lines were reduced and able to handle more guests within a given time.
My staff were ale to increase their tips by around 50% because of the tip prompts on the touch screen.

We bought this system last year. At first with little business, we had some success, then one of the monitors broke down. They kindly sent out a new one right away. But then as we got busier, the POS system would crash daily. We had five registers and had to turn 2 off all the time. We were told it was our internet. We closed for the season. When we reopened we changed internet providers. It still crashed. We ran new wire. It still crashed. We bought a new modem. It still crashed. We ordered a new cradle point. It crashed again and this past week it has not been syncing which has resulted in problems with payroll. I have emailed. My managers and I have made numerous phone calls. Most of the workers have been nice but now I believe they are avoiding us because they don't know what is wrong. Lately, some of have been rude. They are not helping us figure it out. Meanwhile thousands of dollars has been wasted on this nonfunctioning system. I have tried to be positive about it the whole year as my managers are ready to throw the system out the window. It leads to frustration, loss of money from paying companies and now problems with payroll. It is easy to use when it works. It looks good. But what does that matter when it is a daily problem and I can only use two or three of the registers? I have had three other restaurants ask me about the system in the past two weeks. I had to tell them the truth. Don't buy it.

Pros

Clean, sleek, easy to use, has great written instructions, workers were very friendly when we first had problems last year

Cons

It doesn't work. The system shuts down. It doesn't sync. The declared tips and the credit card tips could function much better. In order to make sure everyone has clocked out is more difficult than it should be.

Advice to Others

Do not buy it until they resolve problems that are consistent in other reviews. I have been patient for almost a year. Nothing has changed with the service after significant changes in wires, modem, router, and even a new internet provider.

I converted to CAKE from using Aloha because I wanted to offer my customers online ordering. CAKE offers a nice integrated system. It was reasonably priced, and geared toward smaller independent restaurants. I am still working to increase my online ordering and CAKE does leave something to be desired in that area. It would be nice to integrate social media with online ordering and be able to take payments online. CAKE has listened and been receptive to my requests, and I hope they continue to improve going forward. Overall, the CAKE system has been easy to learn to operate, it is easy to manipulate the system and set it up how we need to use it on a daily basis. My customers have enjoyed using CAKE, they particularly like the new receipt function, getting receipts e-mailed or texted directly to them. CAKE has been inexpensive and easy to use, I would recommend it for a small start up.

This company seems more concerned about the appearances than functionality. They use orange as one of the colors on their reports, which translates to a very light grey on a B&W printer. Good luck reading that! They were unresponsive to a suggestion to provide an alternative color scheme.

We have used the system for 9 months. It is easy to use and does not require much training for new server/wait staff. As the admin, I have access to any report I can think of and my kitchen manager is able to track food cost with the system also.

Customer support is best I have seen in years. You speak to an actual person and they find the solution you need. We enjoy it and recommend it to anyone.

We tried cake with our 3rd restaurant. Ok, in the beginning, it was fine but 4 months in there has been some serious issues. 24 hour support is not real. We currently have been trying to get someone to answer their phone for hours. We can't open the restaurant and have to turn guests away. When we originally had issues with cake their support team would say "call us when the issue happens". So we would, as we have a huge line out the door, they say "ok we'll check on the issues and call you back" and not call back for an hour!!! By now I'm frustrated at the time and customers lost and when they finally call back they say, "we don't see any issues on our end". Well I know there's an issue ITS NOT WORKING!!! "Please send a tech out asap!" "We don't do that..." cake said!! This system which was supposed to NEVER go down seems to go down often. I'd rather save money and go back to micros. They NEVER went down this much and if they did, a tech could come out and walk me through the issue. Biggest waste of money. Often the portal of Down as well. So it just the in house pos, the CLOUD THAT HAS ALL YOUR INFO Will CRASH TOO!

Comments: Recently purchased the pos system. Have been looking into doing it for last few years and was worried about the transition. Wish I did it 10 years ago. The customer service is amazing. My sales rep., Russell was efficient. A true professional. Could not have been happier.
My only suggestion will be to do a separate average check per customer for lunch and dinner.

Purchased this unit from a sneaky salesman. Claiming this pos was top of the line. Can do it all. Well I fell for it hook line and sinker turns out this pos is garbage and the way they do business is the same. They never even was able to get my menu build up and going. Then wanted to claim my menu was to big. Could not do half and half pizzas. For a kitchen this is a must. And there system struggles at it. I was told I would need to change my prices to all toppings the same price for it to work. Gave up on them one month later told them I wanted to return the system they said ok no problem and sent me shipping labels so I sent back system. Waited two weeks and never heard back from them so decided to call and ask about my refund. They said I could not have one because I was outside of there 10 day return period. Which makes no sense considering they sent me return labels and gladly took my system back. Now needless to say they have both my 7000$ purchase but also the pos I sent back to them that they refuse to return.
Every pos company out there is better than these thieves keep looking around I'm not the only one they stole from.
