CAKE POS Software


 

CAKE is a point of sale (POS) system designed exclusively to meet the needs of the restaurant industry. It offers features such as multiple payment acceptance, online ordering, gift cards and tableside ordering.

The reporting module allows owners and managers to drill down into sales reports to find sales by week, day or hour. Payroll reporting helps users calculate wages and overtime, and sales can even be compared to labor costs every hour. Peak hours tracking and customer tracking are also available on-demand in real time.

The system integrates with third-party systems such as PayPal, Xero, Orca, 7Shifts, Quickbooks and Avero. It is cloud-based, but an offline mode means users can accept payments even if their Internet connection happens to be down.

I like its look. Very clean. Easy to program and make on the fly changes to. You can even make changes using your cell phone which is cool.

Cons

Kinda slow when typing in certain commands on the keyboard. Would like it to be updated more frequently.

Pros

The way it speeds up orders which means more customers in a lot shorter period of time. While I'm cashing the customer out the kitchen already has their ticket.

Cons

Love the system. I honestly do not have anything negative about it. There are no cons. When calling for customer support, my call is answered right away. They are quick to explain any questions I have.

By having CAKE we are able to use 7shifts for a discounted price. It is a gamechanger when coming to employee scheduling. It has saved me at least 2 hours per week when making my schedule.

Pros

I would say that the best thing about CAKE is that we have the ability to edit our POS system, pricing, item names, you name it from in house. No third party's to have to call and wait for a button to be added and then days to update in the system.

Cons

I do wish that I had more ability with the online ordering where I could edit an order when it comes to the POS. Sometimes customers request things and the proper up charges arent added.

We were iPad based with our old system which made us slaves to wifi and it went out all the time. There were daily complaints and we had too much revenue for that kind of system so it just didn¿t work out for us. A POS should just work and CAKE works. It's been about two years since we'e switched and there are never any complaints from the staff anymore. As an owner, I¿m a report guy. The backend reports are self-explanatory and extremely comprehensive. It makes it easy to check out what's being given out in discounts and comps, online orders, sales by category, sales by employee, sales by quarter hour, sales vs labor costs, pretty much anything you'd want to know. It makes tax and bookkeeping easier, which is very important to me. The whole system is easy to use, the interface is simple, and as soon as I can I'm going to switch my other bar to CAKE too.

Cons

I don't like the fact that it only reports cash closed on the back end instead of what is actually opened. So I don't get the true sales we are making until the very end of the night.

We truly enjoy how easy to use this system is. With it being touch screen and having categories within each product, the system is easy to understand and easy to use. The system also does a wonderful job of being able to give us statistics on which of our products are the most popular. It keeps track of payroll and clocking in and out. It also it easy to navigate around in. Another thing we love is the customer service provided. Whenever we have issues or questions, customer service is always there to help out.

Cons

When we are super busy, sometimes it's hard for us because we only have one system. We are working on getting a tablet to see if it provides a solution to our conflict. When we have a customer at the drive through and one inside, it's difficult to take care of both at the same time. When we are getting slammed during lunch, it provides a small roadblock to the flow of things.

We were using an older text driven system before that ran on an older OS on XP and we needed something that was Windows-oriented, vendor supported, and took support off of management¿s hands and handed it over to the people who are actually on the floor doing the work. Frankly the old system also broke a lot, and we needed something more technologically advanced. CAKE has been fantastic. Developing and managing the menu has been surprisingly easy, like the easiest thing I¿ve ever done. Working with the categories and modifiers was just a piece of cake. All of the people working here love it. They came off a system they were already used to, and the conversion was completely painless and extremely fast. When we went from tickets to our old system it was a 6 month nightmare, it just took forever, and I was concerned switching to CAKE would be the same, but it was instant. The system was so intuitive, it's been really nice. It operates exactly how you think it should work, which is probably why staff took to it so readily. The way you can purchase it was also a huge factor for a small independent company like ours, so you can do a small down payment instead of a big cash outlay. It just works for us.

Cons

An ad-hoc reporting capability would be nice. The existing reports are substantial and you can download them into excel, but I would like to be able to create my own.

Their is so many benefits to switching to cake. It save your cc processing money the system is smooth and easy to use. Keeps payroll and invintory for you. Makes my job as a manager much easier to run a restaurant.

Pros

We switched to CAKE because it does cheaper credit card processing, and on top of that it's a lot better as a system to calculate our numbers, and we can even use it to keep track of inventory. I like how they constantly do maintenance and updates, which keeps things running smoothly and up to date. I also like how it sends close out reports via email which we can access remotely from anywhere.

Cons

Their could be a better tax exempt button. For our customers that have an tax exempt card. You can still turn the tax of very simply. But it could be helpful. I have spoken with them about this and they are currently working on it. Thanks cake.

Better tracking of drinks and food.

Pros

We used to run everything out of a couple of regular registers. Now everything is tied together. No more guest checks running back and forth to the kitchen. It was a challenge at first, but the you get used to the system the better it is. We like the simplified reports. It's a lot easier to track sales within categories so we have a good idea of what's selling and what's not. Restaurants are always trying to get something that'll sell a little better. This makes it easier to figure out what you made at the end of the day, which helps us run the business better.

Cons

I wish they had way to set up an automatic happy hour for the bar. It would be nice if it could be programed for say from 2-6 fifty cents of on all alcoholic drinks.

We were a start up needing a POS What I like about CAKE is we don¿t have to have or maintain a server here since it's all online and internet based. The reps we dealt with were really great at helping us get it all set up, and it's been wonderful customer service from day one. It's just been really great. I like the design and ease of use for it, and it¿s just so much easier to use than other systems I¿ve used in the past

Cons

Sometimes I have difficulty finding information I need in the reports. I may have to go through several menu options to find what I'm looking for. This generally relates to sales categories.

Our old system was constantly down. Their servers were in Vegas so if anything happened there or here we couldn¿t use it. There is no comparison with the pure ease of using CAKE. We love the detailed reports we can customize to see anything and everything I¿d like to see, and they're quick and easy to run every night. It definitely saves us time, and it saves the team time in putting in orders and info. Another issue we had before was the old system constantly losing tickets during the process, and we haven't lost a single one since we switched. We also like that it looks presentable and not like a clunky computer.

Cons

Occasional issues with the time it takes to run a gift card. Not currently able to accept Chip cards and the online order system is a little dated.

Pros

The initial ease of use has been perfect. As we as a team learn and understand more about its' functionality, we become happier everyday. With CAKE, the amount of time we are saving with transition of orders from FOH to BOH is astounding.

As the owner, I'm can easily make changes and explain to staff what CAKE is doing and how to get them to improve. The backend of the program is very robust and I can't wait to be able to do analysis when more data points are available.

Pros

Our main problem before CAKE was time. It was taking too much time for servers to get something written on paper and get back to the POS to put everything in. If the internet was down everything was down so we wanted something cloud based so we could continue with transactions even if the internet had problems. CAKE meets all the needs we were looking for. We've got a much faster turnover rate on being able to get orders in and back to kitchen and out to the table, and we can continue taking orders even without internet, which have both helped with revenue. We also like using the guest manager system so when we run out of tables we can get numbers and page when tables open up which was an added benefit. I can also do things on the fly like change the menu even when I'm not on the restaurant, someone just gives me a call and I can add it from my personal laptop and it goes directly to the POS system, which has been really helpful as well.

Cons

Touch screen interaction is not instant. There is a half second lag in some of the menu screens. It may not sound like much, but anyone in the restaurant industry knows that every single second counts during the lunch rush. This lag also includes certain unnecessary animations between certain screens.
Certain features such as an on the fly print button from the table layout screen would decrease our table times.
The Split screen is very counter-productive compared to other systems.

Ease of use. Cut down on time for closing procedures. Immediately goes live with new product or pricing.

Pros

The product is a Huge timesaver for myself and for my staff. We were with Abacus prior to this and it was a nightmare. With Cake everything is right at your finger tips. It has taken so much time off of our daily reporting and closing procedures. Also, Unlike the prior company we were using. There is no longer a wait period for entering new items into the system or updating pricing. So convient!!! We have been using the system now for over 2 years and have been completely happy with the system and the customer service as well.

Cons

There is not much that I dislike about this product. There have been small issues that were immediately taken care of and resolved as quickly as possible. It is a start up company. so there are always going to be some growing pains.
