Fishbowl has redeeming qualities

Ease-of-use

The screens and flow of the software make it easy to train the most elementary of users.

Functionality

This is our company's very first inventory software; it meets all of the needs.

Product Quality

It is a quality product but could use some upgrades in reporting. Specialized reports are always referred to a team who will bill you separately.

Customer Support

The chat support is very good. Calling in takes a little longer than I really like, but someone always calls back. We had difficulties with the time difference when it came to chatting in the mornings.

Likes Best

The product is intuitive and allows manufacturing to be integrated with the inventory. The product is pretty easy to use once the database is set up and the processes have been established. I love the chat feature on support. We use it daily. The staff we've dealt with at Fishbowl are absolutely great!

The product's "seamless" integration with Quickbooks is hard to understand. The staff has no Quickbooks training and cannot help you with questions about the processes of what happens to the sales orders and POs once they have gone over to QB. It was extremely frustrating.
Setting up the database was basically a do-it-yourself project for us. When I asked questions, I got tons of referrals to Wiki pages of instructions when I really needed some human guidance. I ended up starting over three or four times and recreating the database because I didn't have enough guidance in the beginning.
You cannot print the barcodes on large labels for easy reading in a warehouse setting; there are only a couple of size options, and both are really small.

Recommendations

Consider seriously spending the extra money to have the Fishbowl staff come on site to help you with setup. I think it could have saved us a ton of work.

We have had this nine months, and it still is not working properly

Ease-of-use

It is not difficult to operate, but it does not work properly. It is not intuitive. It does not use terminology or fields that correlate to Quickbooks.

Functionality

It does not meet our needs. I feel that we were misled in what the software could do by the initial salesperson. I am not saying this was intentional. It could have been a lack of knowledge on his part. This is what was expressed by Fishbowl when I brought specific emails that he sent to their attention.

Product Quality

It crashes on an almost daily basis - definitely several times a week. When it goes down, it shuts your entire shipping and accounting departments down.

Customer Support

The chat support is good. The call support is terrible. They are understaffed, have long waits, and apparently have lots of turnover. They charge a lot for annually (depending on number of licenses you have) for poor support, but you must have it because the program crashes constantly, and you need them to fix it in order to keep going.

The salesperson did an excellent job of selling us this software.

The program does not work for many of the main reasons we purchased it. Do not believe it will solve specific issues you are having with your inventory until you verify this with a current user. We were told it would do many things it does not. This software is very expensive, so make sure you are going to get what you paid for!

We sell on a website and on Amazon Prime. We paid extra to have custom software written to make this integration work, and we also paid to have a Fishbowl representative come to our office for installation and training. When he arrived, he discovered that the integration software was not ready, and we were not able to go live. He never returned to finish the installation and training, and we were not refunded any money. We were given a credit for phone training, which was not very helpful. Again, buyer beware.

Recommendations

We have had this software for over nine months, and it has never worked properly. I have one member of my staff that has become the expert on the software. She has worked on the integration along with me since day one. The company that Fishbowl contracted to write the integration software has been a wonderful company to work with. I just wish I could say the same about Fishbowl. There software is not intuitive, causes almost as many issues with inventory as it fixes, and crashes constantly. Their chat help is good, but the rest of their support is very poor. They try to help, but they seem to have a lot of turnover, and often you find that you know more about the software than the person that is helping you. They also charge us annually for this poor support. Unfortunately, we are stuck with this program, but I would urge you to really study this software before making the same mistake. It may work fine for a simple business model, but if you have a simple business model, you can just use Quickbooks.

Outstanding Customer Service

It's very user-friendly and self-explanatory. Screens are easily accessible for Purchasing, Receiving, and Inventory Management. Reports are easily accessed and offer a lot of different options.

Functionality

We don't currently use the system for Production Planning, but that would be the next phase I would like to explore. I am hopeful that it will offer the same strong processes that the Purchasing, Receiving, Inventory Management, and Reporting offer.

Product Quality

The product quality is terrific. There's little downtime, and it covers all of our needs to run a smooth supply chain.

Customer Support

Customer Support is amazing. The few times in the past four years that I have had an issue, a FB Tech Support person has called me back within 15-20 minutes of my call and has always repaired my issue on the first call. That is amazing to me. I worked with Seth today and he was fantastic. He was extremely thorough and professional, and he was able to fix my issue quickly. I needed additional information regarding our server. Once I had it and called again, he got back to me within 10 minutes and solved my issue. Then I was up and running. To me, this amazing customer service is something you don't find with other companies. Truly a selling point for everyone!

The software is extremely easy to learn and navigate. It allows for easy entry and tracking of purchase orders, receipts, and customer orders. The Reports menu offers every kind of inventory management report that is needed to reconcile and track all inventory transactions and historical data.

Recommendations

Take a trial run and work with the product for a few days. You will see the ease of being a user, the ability to work fluidly with the screens, and the functionality.

The technical staff is very knowledgeable and supportive. They are able so solve every issue I have had so far.

I work for a full-service dental laboratory, which is a bit of a unique application for this software, and we have been using Fishbowl for about one year. Since our completed products are all custom made to patient specifications, we purchased Fishbowl primarily to organize and track internal inventory and consumption. We knew from the start that there would be no off-the-shelf solution for our situation, but we hoped that from what we had seen, we would be able to find enough work-arounds to get it doing close to what we needed.

If anything, it has made the inventory management process even more arduous. While Fishbowl offers a lot of options, and will probably work very well for a more typical business, it is not a good solution for more complex situations. It simply doesn't have the flexibility. The only way to remove items from inventory is via cycle count (which leaves no record of consumption) or via sales order (which means that all of your Parts also need to be listed as Products, and you will need to do a lot of unnecessary paperwork just to maintain accurate consumption reports.

The barcode scanners and label printer we ordered from Fishbowl are also antiquated devices, and we are unlikely to be able to repair them if anything goes wrong.

What has been most disappointing about this system by far is the customer support. The live chat feature is their saving grace - the hours are very reasonable and the queue has generally been quite short. However, there seems to be a massive amount of turnover in the company - nearly every time I contact them, I end up talking to someone different, and have to re-explain all of our problems and our situation before I can get to the issue at hand. The communication at their level also seems insufficient (on multiple occasions, I have gotten different several different answers from different people) and the quality of training for their agents seems to be low as well. Poor grammar and spelling from live chat agents, inability to answer basic questions or provide further support in lieu of an immediate answer, and an often bored tone of voice over the phone.

Overall, Fishbowl has been complicated, difficult to use and has caused more problems than it has solved. We still feel like we're in a transition phase and will hopefully reap more benefits long term, but a warning to other businesses with a lot of internal consumption or other unique features - make sure you get a very thorough demo and vocalize exactly what you need from the system. Further, bring someone in for on-site training if you do intend to purchase this software.

The customer service and technical team after a purchased technical set-up help has completely let me down and is unresponsive because they to can not figure out the solution to why income accounts are going in as expenses when transferred between systems (this is just one of many account transfer errors). Its sad because I was looking for a system, and still am today, to streamline and make order processing/inventory control easier. The technical team is lacking and have not responded to any of my questions. Be careful, is my only suggestion when considering this software package because it is expensive and difficult to set up.

As a future shop owner checking out software companies I am very impressed with Fishbowl. They provide a free demo and followed up with phone calls and emails to answer any questions. That's excellent customer service. I'm seriously considering going with Liberty. I've checked out other similar companies who didnt even return my calls, and if they did, they were very unprofessional and rude. That shows me the customer service I can expect from them in the future, should I have problems. The Internet was also filled with complaints of the companies who provide terrible customer service. I suggest everyone to google "consignment Software" and read it. There is a lot of truth there. Thank you for being so professional and following up Fishbowl.
