Lifesaver Tool for our Retail Store!

Ease-of-use

The interface is so intuitive. If you have a smart phone and use it, you can use Lightspeed easily with little to no training. Did you get trained on how to use your smart phone? No! Lightspeed is the same way. The support exists to help you when you need it, but for the most part, it is easy to figure out on your own.

Functionality

It has everything we need to successfully run our store.

Product Quality

It was designed with the modern user in mind and the quality feels top-notch.

We haven't had to use support yet, but the rest of the staff have been so helpful at getting us started!

Likes Best

Lightspeed is created for the modern user, a user used to smartphones, the cloud, and speed. There is nothing old school about this produc. It is entirely "new school" and has all bases covered when it comes to what any modern retailer needs for a POS and Inventory Management system. We find it so intuitive to use and the interface is easy on the eyes and easy on the mind. We got up and running on it with almost zero training, because it was that easy to figure out.

There still seem to be a few kinks in the system that are being worked out. Every once in a while we catch a glitch, but it is nothing major.

Recommendations

Sign up for a free trial and actually use it! Play with the system and understand how it will work for you. The free trial is a great way to see if it is the right match!

Used to be a great, no longer the case. it's now badly flawed!

There are a number of major bugs with the system when creating a customer order. Essentially, there is a flaw that will not allow certain steps to be taken. One must log out of Lightspeed and then log back in. This can take minutes and something other POS users on other terminals will need to log out to get this to work. Try telling a retail customer who you are trying to serve that you have to restart your system and do this continuously through the day. Sounds like fun? No it isn't. Lightspeed have just now launched a new update - 2015.1.2.0 (r93) and they've even redesigned their logo. Do you think they've fixed this glaring bug? Nope they haven't. It's been 6 months guys.

Recommendations

Try it for yourself. It would be great if you don't need to create a customer order and your customers are just paying and going.

Two weeks before I opened my furniture store I switched

It's simple and just makes sense. I never got frustrated and was just so happy I could get back to my business and not sweat the IT stuff.

I love it. From entering in products, printing labels, making the sale and special ordering stuff, and receiving, it all just flowed.

It's a wonderful HTML experience and is as good as any mobile app.

This was a what did it. I really felt like people were just waiting for my email to come in and fix or answer any questions. I was up and running and ringing up sales in less then a week!

It's so easy to use and you don't have to spend time training people because it just works. I had a launch party for my store with over 175 people. I was able to check coats and ring up $2,500 worth of cash and carry business without breaking a sweat.

I don't like that I can't see a report of all my Special Order Business (Profit and Total Sales). What is "written" is just as important as what is actually delivered/sold.

Recommendations

I made the mistake of selecting a POS system before Lightspeed. I didn't follow my gut. I thought these systems had to be complicated and require lots of training and time to learn. I know stores that spend weeks training their sales employees to ring up a sale before they let them loose. This is the best system I have seen in the 10 years I have been in the furniture business.

Younger staff members are comfortable on the iPad.

Reports are up to the minute. It is a bit cumbersome to make POs. It's a four-step process to complete the transaction, but it helps to avoid mistakes.

Product Quality

It's very user-friendly. It has an easy search function, as well as a Bluetooth scanner.

Customer Support

They have answered and solved every issue I had during setup.

Up to the minute accuracy on POS when any information in the backend is changed. I like the professional layout of the iPad Cash Register, the ease of use for casual staff, and the ease of exporting information into QuickBooks.

I don't like that a sale is automatically started when you log in. If you don't make that sale and the iPad goes to sleep, the sale remains open, and a new one opens up when you log in again. It means that many transactions of $0.00 are left open.

Recommendations

I looked into about 10 POS upgrades to my previous system, and this was the best option. It has provided improvements to all areas of my previous system.

LightSpeed POS is wonderful ecommerce software that connects your retail and website easily to manage inventory, customers info, orders, shipping info, sales reports etc. LightSpeed for iPhone made everything handy. Even today I heard that it introduced POS for restaurants, coffee shops and bars. How business friendly POS Software it is. I appreciate it.

Being the smart LightSpeed Consultant, Radinat Technology INC have instructed me the advantage and effectivness of LightSpeed POS and help me in installing point of sale on MAC device. They also helped me in integrating LightSpeed with Magento using the LightSpeed magento connector. I have wasted my LightSpeed POS license since 1 year without knowing how to use it effectively. Its really so classic and doubled my organization productivity. Thanks to LightSpeed Ecommerce Retail POS and Radianttech as well. If you people like to configure i suggest Radinttech here. They are really affordable and supportive during all my mistakes.

I think the product is designed to make point of sales easy and efficient. We did have a few interface issues, but we worked through it.

I think it works very well for what we do. I like the ability to preload our publishers book inventory into the Lightspeed system.

The product is well-designed. I don't have any issue with the product quality.

We had to work very hard to get the support we needed. We made far too may phone calls to get the support we needed. If I could do it again, I probably would've gone with another supplier based purely on the lack of customer support.

Once we understood the architecture logic, it became quite easy to use.

The API is useless. It has a self-interest focus on the Webstore, and it's unable to talk to other platforms online, with the exception of Accumula/Shopify.

Recommendations

Talk to a consultant rather than a reseller before you purchase. A reseller will only tell you the good news and none of the limitations.

Updates don't work. The site randomly shuts itself down. Tech support seems to be clueless.

I am stuck with this website until my contract ends, at which point I will change to another eCommerce solution.

It's designed by coders with no business acumen. The layout, updates, and images are terrible, and there's no way to adjust them without voiding the tech support.

Customer Support

Marginal, at best. I hate knowing more about coding and web tech support than the company I am purchasing a web store from. More often than not, I have to tell them what to do to fix my problem.

It was intriguing to have a POS system that could communicate directly with a web store and track inventory in both places. The POS system works well enough, although it has its "thoughtless" elements and seems to be designed without ever speaking to a business owner.

Unfortunately this system is full of bugs. They don't seem to have ever spoken with a business owner. The images are far too small, and there are far too few to be of any real use. They cannot be made larger. If you make any cosmetic changes to your site, it will eliminate all tech support, since it is no longer their code. This is a major problem, since their website layout is inadequate, and navigation is restricted. They claim that only backend code eliminates tech support, but I only changed my CSS page to make the welcome page what I needed for my store. I was a professional web designer and know exactly what I'm doing on this point.

When you do reach tech support, they are barely competent. I don't like knowing more about the entire site, code, and troubleshooting than the person on the other end of the phone.

Recommendations

Avoid the eCommerce site at all costs. It is massively expensive for what you are left to deal with.

It's easy to use, but there are no controls, and the reporting needed to complete the financial statements is not present!

Lightspeed made promises that they would implement decimal point quantities within 3 months of me signing up. This was never delivered. The support provided by the company is terrible!!

It is impossible to get through to the support teams. In most cases, they tell you that you need to submit a feature request form, which never gets responded to!

Honestly, the only thing I don't like is that I always have to hit Search after selecting dates for a report (for example) or finding an item in inventory when searching by category. And the search button is not located near where the search field is, so I always forget to look over to the right and hit it. But that's about it.

Recommendations

Do your homework and look at more than one system. LightSpeed was the last of three systems we looked at, and with each one, I was convinced that it was the right choice. But when I got to LightSpeed, it was a world of difference. Be sure you know what your needs are in terms of scalability across multiple locations, ease of integration with your bookkeeping system, and options for moving to/adding a web-based business.

I really like LightSpeed, and their support is awesome

There's just a lot to learn. The videos are really good and helpful. The support is great.

Functionality

We have issues with the credit card scanner. There are a lot of physical moving parts: a printer, scanner, cash register, iPad. Since we make sales at random times, it is hard for us to keep up with all the hardware and software.

I wish I could depend on the credit card scanner. I can't figure out if it just needs to be charged fully all the time.

Customer Support

Support is so good. I never feel bad or stupid calling them. This is a software/hardware package. You can't know everything, so you have to reach out for help sometimes, and they are always so nice and want to help you figure it out.

Retail is not our core business, but we needed to sell products online as well as in a physical store. We wanted to manage the online store appearance as well. It was crucial to have the database be absolutely the same in the online store and physical store. We could not use an API, which provided a synch, but we wanted inventory to be accurate up to the minute.

The software and hardware are powerful, and thus, there is a lot to learn. I want to just go in there and make sales, but you have spend time to learn the system. You also get more out of it.

Determine if your needs are for both a physical and online store. Can buyers buy online and pick up in the physical store?

LightSpeed: so far, so good!

Ease-of-use

It is very self-explanatory. I basically taught my staff and myself how to use the program, except for a couple minor questions I had for customer support.

Functionality

It is exactly what I was looking for: a POS program that also offered the webstore that is easily updated in real time.

Product Quality

It is designed very well and is very user-friendly. It is very easy to understand and explain, even when giving instructions on the phone. The interface is very attractive as well.

Customer Support

The customer support is very good. They are very quick to answer the phone, and hold times have always been short. They normally don't need to ask another source for the answer to your question, no matter the category or topic, and for very complicated or complex issues, they can easily remotely access your PC. The only issue is they are not yet 24/7. My store is open later than they are open every day, which is an issue sometimes.

I like the ability to take LightSpeed with me to the events we take part in. By plugging in my cell to my computer for internet access, I can log in to LightSpeed and keep my inventory up to date with each transaction I complete outside of the shop!

There are a couple minor issues I'm facing with the webstore, but nothing major at all. I dislike the fact that penny-rounding has not been implemented yet for the Canadian users, so my end of day cash out is almost always out by a penny or two. I also really dislike the fact that customer support is not open 24/7. This is an issue for me considering I am on the West Coast and am open until 6pm or 8pm, and they are closed before I am every day. They do have the emergency customer support, where they decide whether or not you are in an emergency situation depending on the voicemail you leave, but I have left a message that to me was an emergency because I was still open, but they didn't think it was important enough to respond.

Recommendations

If there's something you need help with or something you don't understand, do not hesitate to call customer support! They do a great job (when they're open) helping you with whatever you need, and can remotely access your PC easily to troubleshoot bigger, more complex issues.

The quality is good, but getting it set up took forever.

Customer Support

Both the first line staff and supervisors didn't listen to our issues and seemed to want to get us off the phone with any answer they could. Everything took numerous long calls, and answers vary from staff member to staff member.

Once the hardware and software are installed and up and running, it is a easy to use and is a bug-free Mac-based system. Everything worked once the long process of equipment arrival, download, and setup was accomplished.

Customer service is the very worst I have ever experienced. It took a month to get the hardware. Then, it took three months to get the software installed and another 4 months for a second location to be installed.

Recommendations

My recommendation is to go elsewhere. The long lead time for hardware and high price, along with the poor customer service is what makes this an unacceptable choice for a POS system.

Much easier than POS systems I've used in the past!!

Ease-of-use

It's extremely easy to navigate through the system. Even when having to troubleshoot because of user error or any other issue, they make it easy to figure out and solve the problem at hand.

Absolutely! We work in a medical office and sell a little retail, so we're constantly having to navigate through different systems between our patient portals and scheduling software to LightSpeed. It's nice to know that we have an easy system to work with for patient sales vs. issues with other software.

Product Quality

Very good quality. I've never been charged with the task of shopping for a point of sale system, so I'm not sure what else is offered but I am sure this has to be top notch.

Customer Support

I personally haven't had to use it because I've never needed customer support, but if it's half as good as the system then I'm sure they are great.
