Smartwerks_USA is one of the leading retail point of sale and accounting software applications.  We found the system to be best for small and medium-sized businesses ranging from gift shops and book stores to museums. This application covers all point of sale and accounting functions, from purchase order to inventory to checkout.

Accounting and POS features are fully integrated in Smarkwerks_USA. Because it can process transactions in real-time, reports are always updated.  These reports can be quickly exported as a PDF document, then downloaded or emailed as an attachment. Inventory can be imported from a user’s spreadsheet and items can be bar coded for easy sales checkout.

By using the built-in Chart of Accounts template, users can adjust the general ledger to their companies’ specifications. The ability to customize these forms leads to reporting features that are extremely useful in analyzing expentitures.

Since the system is hosted by the provider, we found it easily accessible and great for operations with multiple users and locations.  No hosting responsibilities mean less worry and easy system updates via an Internet connection.

Owners and managers have the option to login remotely and check up on their business. Users also have the option to give accounting departments remote access to perform necessary accounting procedures.

Smartwerks_USA is a java-based software application that is compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.

Where do I begin?

Ease-of-use

You can't undo entry problems; you just have to start over. There are no cancels.

Functionality

It meets my current needs until another option can take its place.

Product Quality

With simple updates, it would be a great system. It's a good system for the beginner.

Customer Support

In the beginning, it was great, but now I seem to be bothering them when I ask for help.

It would be great to enter new inventory and quantities all on one screen. It need an option to cancel a sale. It also needs the option to be able to return items without using a credit card when selecting the option to run the credit outside of the normal credit card system. Currently, this doesn't work. It needs an option to return items/exchange on one receipt/transaction. Currently, we have to return the item, issue a credit on the credit card, and then start a new transaction in order to complete an exchange. They need support after hours for any problems. I was told that the after hours emergency number is for use only when you can't run sales. It doesn't help much when you are in different time zones and encounter problems that have to wait until the following day.

Recommendations

I tried three companies before choosing this system. I chose this system mainly for the ease of checkouts for my employees. That is really the only plus to this system. Once the inventory is loaded, which takes multiple steps, the program is fairly easy to use.

Smartwerks needs improvement.

It's very complicated to find invoices. Payment on accounts takes way too long to find the original invoice numbers.

It doesn't really meet my needs because the accounting is lacking.

It's okay. It's not easy to use, and it's Very difficult to correct problems and entries.

Customer Support

Every time we call on weekends, there's no answer. When talking to their staff and trying to explain a problem, they are not very cordial.

Likes Best

The Point of Sale part is fine. It rings up items well. There is plenty of space for notes. I like that we can have multiple users on computers.

Likes Least

The accounting stinks! It's very hard to correct problems. There's no edit button; check stubs will not show the amount of the check.

Recommendations

It would help if you could edit entries more quickly and easily. The balance inquiry account stinks. It never really shows the correct amount of checks written.

The point of sale is good, but bookkeeping is a joke. It is almost impossible to correct a mistake.

If it would work as promoted, it would be great.

It started great, but lately they seem put out helping with the bookkeeping problems.

It is very easy to use with all the options right in front of you. It doesn't take a lot of searching.

Functionality

This does a lot of what is needed for this company. I wish it had a payroll option.

Product Quality

I think it is well-designed. I wish it had payroll, but it is also understandable, seeing how much this software does incorporate.

Customer Support

Any time I have had any questions, customer support has answered them the best way possible and even researched any better options as well.

Likes Best

The product is easy to learn to operate. It is helpful for new employees learning many things at once. This program is easy to operate even when feeling overwhelmed.

I don't like the fact that a lot of items can't be edited once entered. That makes it difficult to correct mistakes.

Recommendations

I would recommend this software if there is a person smart in figuring out the usual mistakes other users make. It is difficult to correct mistakes after entered.

There are many ways to search through inventory, and it's also difficult to duplicate inventory. Organizing the inventory by categories and subcategories makes it easy to break down inventory searches if the item number is not known.

Easy interface, lots of detailed information at your fingertips.

Functionality

No integrated payroll; I'm not sure why this is not included. Otherwise, it will do everything we need.

Product Quality

The program has never crashed! This is a quality program. It's easy to understand and navigate.

Customer Support

Lots of updates and support. You can call a talk to a real person who is in the US.

Likes Best

One program does it all: accounting and POS.

Likes Least

There's lag time on the internet. It's slow to log in and find customers' names. The search takes a little time to get used to. Double-clicking on invoice numbers is a little buggy/slow.

Recommendations

Get the best internet connection you can get. Upload speed is very important.

I opened my jewelry store one year ago. I decided to go with Smartwerks software, and it has proven to be a great decision. It is easy to train new employees, and I love the way it keeps track of my inventory. The staff is very helpful and accommodating. They have even made changes to suit our needs. Customer support is always available. I would recommend Smartwerks to anyone that is looking for a competent program that is user-friendly.

I have been using Smartwerks since the opening of my business December 2012. I spent about 6 weeks looking for the right software and decided to try out Smartwerks based on the features offered and the excellent communication and fast responses to all of my questions by Patrick at Smartwerks.

Learning how to use the software is very easy. Sandy and William did an awesome job showing me how everything worked. Adding inventory, making changes, and managing customers is very simple.

I am really happy with the decision that I made and now that we have expanded to a second location, the cloud based system that they use is a must. With it, we can view in real time, any of our locations history along with keeping one customer database that covers as many locations as we decide to open in the future.

POS System without a lot of "attitude". Simple, straightforward, easy to use. The Smartwerks company is flexible and adaptable as our needs change. Very reasonable license agreement and monthly user fees. The Smartwerks team are always available to answer our questions, either by phone or via email. If they don't have the answer right away, they will work to find a solution for us. The personal service and attention that we have been given has exceeded our expectation.

When we purchased the bike shop, the previous owner was using a cash register and paper inventory and had no customer data. We started looking for Point of Sale software so that we could accurately track inventory, customer information and daily sales. We found Smartwerks.

We were immediately impressed by the sales and support staff. They set up a demo store for us to test their system. This influenced our decision to go with Smartwerks. The implementation process was very easy. We had a running Point of Sale system within a day. Bike Pros has been using Smartwerks since March of 2010 and we very happy with this product.

With Smartwerks we are now able to accurately track our sales, customers, inventory and vendors within one system that is full featured and easy to use. We spend less time worrying whether we have this part or that bicycle and more time with our customers.
