Square Register POS Software


 

Square Register POS is a mobile phone app available on Google Play and the App Store. The system is designed to run on a tablet or smartphone. Key capabilities include sales reports, inventory and digital receipts, as well as valuable analytics information.

The software provides regular free updates, which equip companies with new features to help run their business more effectively and efficiently. It also allows users to populate a spreadsheet with historic sales data for tax calculations.

Square Register works offline by providing a recording of transactions even when the Internet is down by storing the data locally, and automatically syncs all information when the user is connected again.

This sytem also offers the management of details such as names, quantities and prices, as well as features such as credit card processing, discounts, gift cards, refunds, barcode scanner and more.

Love using square - easy, fast, no hassle. No wiring, no trouble - what more could a person ask for? Except i wish we could accept debit without having to buy/rent another machine just for debit! LOVE the email or text receipt option

As a small business we chose not to take credit or debit cards. However, in today's "card" carrying society, very often customers don't have a way of paying. We chose Square over having monthly fees and a physical terminal. It's quick, easy and has a lot of customers thanking us for the convenience it provides!

I use this product 6 days a week for our small business. Its always available. I did not rate the customer service, the reason is because I have never needed them. I can only imagine, its like their product and would be excellent.

Pros

I like the ease of use. It always works. The value to me is not available anywhere else. I have convinced many to try this POS.

Cons

The only negative for me, is not being able to enter sales through my pc and further to print the receipts on my shop printer.

Advice to Others

Check around, no bank pos, no internet pos other than Square can offer their rate, their inventory tracking, their ease of use. None, you check and then come back and get Square register.

I think square has Jedi mind tricks because months ago when I initially went to their website. The following week I received square POS promo in the mail to check them out. At the time didn't need it but recently did business for a booth and we used the square on the go POS. A family member wanted me to help them at an exhibition so we decided to utilize square for the whole weekend. It was quick easy and pretty fast even the setup was fairly simple. I definitely recommend them if you are a merchant that has to conduct business at exhibitions or trade shows!

I love the versatility that square offers. I can bring my square reader with me when I go on location for photo shoots. I love being about to offer another form of payment for my clients.

I love the simplicity of the square pos and how quickly the money is deposited into my bank account. The pos is fairly simple to use and the money is deposited the following business day.

Square is easy to install, and super compact. It doesn't require a lot of prep-work or know-how, and does as is needed.

The POS system lacks detail and efficiency in reporting and inventory capabilities

Recommendations

I think it all depends on how big retail sales factor into your business needs. I think Square is more for one-off uses as opposed to a big conglomerate

Ease of use, Customization capabilities - with icons for your most used products, ability to import your customer details and one set charge for all card types. We upgraded from a basic card swipe device and small printed receipt with higher charges. Much faster than our previous process and much more professional in appearance and use.

Certain reports are not available unless you pay an additional monthly charge for the "Directory Pro" product. Example: I would like to look at what a particular customer purchased for the year. This level of detail is available with the "Directory Pro" product. This is not obvious until you have a login. I was not aware of this but to be fair - I did not think of it till after we had integrated the product into our business. It already works better for us than what we had been using.

Recommendations

Square offers a one month free trial. If you have a tablet and a sales desk - definitely give it a try. It took me several hours to set up the icons for our most sold products - but wow does it ever make the process flow.

Its easy to upload information to the platform, it shows quick pictures, you can add product details and options including size and colour and it makes it easy to train my staff.

Limit support for Canadian users, some features are only available to USA customers, although they have made attempts to add more since I asked them.

Recommendations

Super simple to use, they send you a free card reader. You can have multiple people on the same account, and you can set up/edit your account and items for sale both on mobile and on a desktop browser. Works on all mobile phone types which is handy. The CC processing rate, 2.75% I believe, is quite good.

I have found that the card reader, while it is free, is not well made. We have gone through three of them! It seems like if any dust or dirt gets in the slot, they get very sensitive and will quit working. Also, they really charge way too much when you type in the card number instead of swiping. There is a big surcharge for doing that - and since the reader is not that reliable, we end up needing to do that a lot. Support was not that great though.

Recommendations

I would say you should definitely avoid typing in the numbers manually as much as you can. Have a back-up card reader at all times, and insist that your customers swipe instead of tell you the number to type in whenever possible. You'll save big $.

I love how everything is centrally managed and all the functionality is streamlined through square. Allot of other POS's don't offer customer management, employee management as a one stop shop, but Square does. Also the POS is super user friendly and easy to use and train on. We say two thumbs up!

I wish they would offer a more competitive transaction processing fee for businesses doing higher volume. The 2.75% rate starts to get expensive once you hit a certain threshold.


Capturing customers information and lots of duplication. Mail chimp doesn't seem to be synching up to the client list in the POS.

Recommendations

Think about a tiered program for vendors that are making 100k plus in sales for POS processing fees. That is our biggest pain point at this time.

The 2nd one is we noticed that the Mailchimp contacts don't synch up with the POS contacts. Maybe there is a easy fix but we haven't found one and we are having issues with duplication and missing customer information.

The only thing I've liked about this product is the easiness to check a customer out.

The inventory tracker is very unreliable. I've had numerous problems with Square transactions transferring over to quickbooks correctly. The support team never has the answers to fix any of the problems on Squares end. They've hung up on me twice and never really show that they care if the problem gets fixed. I would say that the customer service at Square is definitely lacking. However, there were two girls that took time to try and help me with the problems I was having, but that was 2 out of 5 or 6 people that I have talked to over the course of these issues.

Recommendations

I would recommend others to really do their research on other point of sales systems before settling with Square. I would make sure this system matches exactly what they are looking for and will be the best for the type of businesses they are running.
