The framework of STORIS includes Point of Sale, Customer Service, Inventory Control, Merchandising, Accounting, Finance, Business Intelligence, Mobile, and e-Commerce. STORIS’ ERP software suite automates thousands of showrooms around the world.

This system can be deployed through a cloud subscription or an on-premise server. The cloud solution data is hosted in a Tier 1 data center, leaving the IT infrastructure in STORIS’ hands. The server-based option allows retailers to oversee their own infrastructure.

Users can tailor the interface to match their responsibilities, workflow, and preferences. STORIS also offers full reporting capabilities. Business Intelligence tools offer a variety of customized reports and analytical tools to mine critical data from all facets of the business.

The staff at Storis is very responsive and helpful. They make me desire to give Storis an outstanding review, but I'm just not quite there yet. Hoping that Storis overhauls their platform to make it more user friendly.

1. If you are an old school Microsoft platform person, you may enjoy the use of the software. In comparison to today's drag and drop, intuitive computing environment, the Storis software feels dated and clunky. Multitasking in Storis, or having multiple screens up at one time is almost non-existent, and to complete a task, or even offer a customer a simple refund, there is not always one simple process that allows the user to finish the task.
2. Storis charges for just about everything. Even to get to the detailed reports we desired, we had to purchase the EIS reporting module. It would seem to me that many of the features that Storis charges extra for should be integrated into the software itself at no extra charge.

Recommendations

Evaluate what you need most: Inventory Management and accounting or a quick and easy point of sale experience. I find Storis to be strong on the Inventory management, but needing improvement on the ease of use as a point of sale platform.

Interface optimized for mobile devices at expense of PC user experience. Exact costing no longer exists because merchandise credit memos were eliminated somewhere between 7.3 and 9.1.

Recommendations

Take a poll of all employees at every level on the software. Sometimes functionality is improved in some areas at the expense of others.

I DONT THINK IT IS REALLY FAIR TO SAY THERE IS SOMETHING THAT I LIKE LEAST ABOUT THE PRODUCT BECAUSE I KNOW THAT ONE PIECE OF SOFTWARE IS NOT THE "TOTAL SOLUTION" FOR EVERY SITUATION THAT COMES UP IN OUR BUSINESS. WORK WITH IT! NOT JUST FOR A DAY, USE IT FOR SEVERAL DAYS, WITH A STORIS TRAINER OR WITH ANOTHER CUSTOMER. SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO SPEND A LITTLE TIME TO REALLY EVALUATE HOW IT WILL WORK FOR YOUR COMPANY!

The ease of use and intuitiveness of the program. You don't need to be a computer genius to use it, and in this industry not everyone grew up attached to a smart phone. Its simple to navigate and process transactions, and easy to find the information you need to manage your business. The Storis staff are extremely helpful and responsive to our needs and inquiries.

Don't have anything negative to offer - only positive opinions. I will say that we only use a small portion of the total package available to us. As a small company we don't feel the need to automate ordering, routing, price reductions, etc that we might if we were 60 stores instead of 6.

Recommendations

Look at how simple it is to process a sale, check inventory levels and schedule deliveries. These are your sales staff's primary functions and it needs to be easy for them (and it is). Look at the tech support you receive - the key telling feature is not how you get treated when its working well, its how you get treated when something goes wrong. I have nothing but the highest praise for the tech support we receive.

STORIS 9.5 is very reliable and structurally extremely sound. The different Modules allow a business to choose only what they require and all work seamlessly together, in my experience. The Table setups are extremely thorough yet flexible enough to customize to one’s own business needs. The interface is extremely User friendly, intuitive and highly customizable. STORIS offers a variety of “pre-built” reports but more importantly, to our business, the ability to create and run queries. The HELP functionally is very detailed,screen specific, and in most cases will answer any question one might have. I have used numerous POS packages over a 30 year career and although all have been very functional none have come close to the features and ability to customize all aspects of the package as STORIS offers.

In the attempt to answer this question I have to come up with something trivial which serves no useful purpose to anyone.

Recommendations

Look beyond what is delivered “off the shelf”. A POS package needs to be flexible and adaptable to a business as it changes. If a package cannot be adapted locally, in house, and without numerous and expensive “fixes/developments” it may not be the bargain once thought.

Almost everything you want to accomplish for your business, this system accommodates. Even if at first you do not think it will, there are ways to set the system up to work the way you need it to. The system has accomplished exactly what we wanted. Our business is more organized, efficient, and we have happier customer's. We were on a paper system before which caused a lot of problems. Now, we know what we have in stock, where it is, & when we sell it, it is reserved for the customer. Building custom reports is a breeze and the customization you can make with forms (invoices, purchase orders, delivery tickets) is wonderful.

We are on the cloud so we purchase license usage. Each user that is logged in is using a license. If we are disconnected, sometimes our licenses are tied up making them unusable. There is no way for me to fix this as fast I need to. If our internet is disconnected abruptly or a computer falls asleep (which disconnects the VPN) we could tie up users for a couple of hours. I do validate license usage (this is how you clear the tied up user out of the system) but this process is not an immediate fix to the problem. Since the program is the back bone to business operations I need to get back up and running quickly and have no way to fix this which causes frustration and anxiety for the sales staff and myself because they look to me to fix the problem.

Recommendations

When you set up the demo, know how your business operates and what your requirements would be from the system. Make sure the system can accommodate. I had a list (purchasing, delivery, pick ups, split tickets, service, warehouse organization etc.) with every detail that was important to the way my business operates (I mean EVERY Detail). All the requirements were met for our company and then some. Some features that I did not even ask about or meant nothing to me during the initial consultation, I do not know how I could live without now. For instance, the audit comments log. This allows you to attach notes to every sales order, purchase order, etc. that only your staff can see. It is wonderful and was not a requirement or expectation when I started using the software but I couldn't live without it now that I have it. AP bills that are created for your merchandise vendors have saved me hundreds of dollars because I have caught mistakes vendors have made that I would not have caught without the system.

It can get expensive if utilizing much of what it has to offer. Note, pricing models are based on your user base size, so it does have pricing models that can be reasonable for smaller retailers.

Recommendations

User satisfaction is always a core item that I look at when evaluating/comparing operating software. 1st, does it meet your companies needs, then 2nd, how do the current users feel about it.

The product encompasses everything in one package and can accommodate any size retail business. The software itself is easy to utilize and if you ever need assistance Storis's support is second to none! I've been in the IT support department myself for over 20yrs and got to give the highest of kudos to this companies outstanding services and support.

Well if I were to give any kind of negatives I feel the main downside to the product is it's core database use of IBM U2 as opposed to SQL or Oracle. Also, all client machines must have a decent network connection to the database (<50ms milli-second response time) for decent use and if your network connection is down you cannot utilize the software at all as there's no local database, so be confident in your network connectivity and security.

Recommendations

I recommend reaching out to business's that utilize this software for first hand experience and if your not so inclined be sure to get a demo of the product from Storis as their friendly staff is very accommodating to show their product and it's capabilities.

The product meets our needs for point of sale, inventory, delivery, customer service tracking, purchasing and accounting. Storis has consistently enhanced the software in all of these areas. In addition, they have developed additional software such as an ecommerce enabled website and a data warehouse. The software has also been enhanced to permit use with touch enabled devices. Customer support has generally been much better than average.

Occasional minor data corruption can get annoying however, it is not widespread and is fairly easily remedied.

Recommendations

Insure that you understand how the software operates and what changes you may have to make in your business model in order to accommodate the software.

I've been a customer of Storis and its predecessors since 1987. I chose Storis because they listened and were willing to adapt. We are a very high end store with the bulk of our sales custom orders. Storis was able quickly to take my needs and develop programs to satisfy them. They're still doing it although at a much higher level than before. I also like the longevity and competence that I find in their employees. it's no wonder that they were voted best place to work in New Jersey.

I've had no complaints. Everyone I've dealt with knows what they're doing and does it well.

Recommendations

Make sure you know what your needs are then find out what Storis can do to satisfy those needs. Don't make the mistake that we made many years ago when we first started with Storis. We kept trying to bend the Storis system to do things the way we had always done them. You're better off changing the way you do things to fit into the Storis system.

Expense. Cost an arm and a leg if you need something modified. It is Storis's way or no way for business model otherwise you have to pay a fortune to get it modified. Every module is priced outrages plus you pay maintenance. Then when you need maintenance you pay more.

Recommendations

Look at how expensive the modules are before buying. Buyers reporting on merchandise flow is not good so make sure you have a plan in place upfront.
