Toast POS Software

Built exclusively to provide a POS system for the restaurant and food service industry, Toast POS is a robust solution for all types of food service businesses, including bars, quick service, and full-service restaurants.

For restaurants with table service, servers can easily process payments and take orders tableside using Toast's handheld tablets. The Quick Order feature creates new orders as quickly as possible, ensuring a speedy transaction. Bars can track tabs, as well as look up drink recipes, helping to improve overall client satisfaction.

To improve employee morale, Toast POS presents each customer with fair tip percentages. That way, customers are more likely to tip fairly, and tip more often. The system also creates an easy way for servers to split the bill, allowing them to drag and drop each item onto the desired check. A check can also be transferred to another server, if necessary, or customers can be merged into one. By creating an easy way to support multiple check preferences, servers are able to better accommodate the needs of each guest.

Toast POS also comes fully equipped with a built-in loyalty program, making it simple for restaurants to reward their most frequent customers. As well, the system can support physical and digital gift cards, and Toast POS will work to integrate any existing gift cards, making the transition between systems entirely seamless. We really like Toast POS’s reporting capabilities, which create a way for restaurants to analyze which menu items are bestsellers, as well as helping owners keep tabs on all aspects of their business.

So far after a solid month of using this in a busy restaurant we have come to realize that Toast has just entered their awkward teenage stage--willing to try everything but everything just falls short.

Pros

Price point allows for multiple terminals, easy to edit closed checks, easy to track closed checks (and email them), good depth of modifications.

Cons

Terrible fire courses, random items are sent to the bottom of tickets, tips at close out appear in three different sections, no fast and easy BIN system, no direct integration with Binwise or Avero, no direct integration with RESERVE, cannot see 'fire' times, no way of assigning seats on a fast bar screen...

Pros

Toast is a great POS for our restaurant. I have found it to be much more easy to use than our previous system. It's great that we can make changes to our menu from outside computers and have access to the entire system from out of the restaurant. It's great that I can update my menu and make adds and changes without being at work.

Cons

I find that at times, the system can lag and can occasionally shut itself down. This causes trouble when it happens in the middle of a guest order. Other than that, the system is great.

A couple of years ago Costa Vida completed an extensive search for a POS system that would replace our outdated Micros 3700 platform. After reviewing more than a dozen options, we selected Toast and launched our first location with them in July of 2015. Immediately we saw improvements in speed and processing. Our cashiers learned the system quickly, and were able to fly around the screens inputting orders. The customer support during the past couple of years has been outstanding.

Value for Money

With now being in business a full year now, I have and I still am learning pro and cons of doing business. I have worked in restaurants but I have never been on the manager/owner side and it's not as easy as you think it is. When running your own business for the most part you are on your own! I sat down with a computer tech to figure out the best POS system for my business. There are SO many out there and being unfamiliar with them a lot of research was done! I attended the Gordon Food Show a month before we opened and I got to see first hand how Toast worked. I was very impressed with the system and how easy it looked to operate (remember I've never been on this side of the business) and we had decided to work 100% with Gordon Food Service because of their support and looking at our best interest for starting our business. Now a year later, I could't imagine being with another POS system so no regrets here on choosing Toast for our POS!

Pros

Customer Support! - I rate them 100 on this!! Any questions I have big or small, they are just a phone call away! If my call isn't answered right away or I get busy, they have the feature to leave your number and they will call you back ASAP.
Customer Service - Being a tech and answering some of the crazy questions (I'm one who probably has the most) they are always patient, friendly and very professional when answering questions.

Cons

Credit Card Processing Fees - With other Processing companies out there some are cheaper but overall with Toast, they win. It's the hidden fees you have to watch. Toast fees appear to be higher but what you see is what you get where with the other guys you have to read the fine print.

Good system, great interface for employees. Unfortunately it is not set up for speed and could use some tweeks for efficiency.

Pros

Hand-helds very easy to use and speed up ordering

Cons

Starting tabs as a bartender is a disaster. Other POS systems allow you to swipe a Credit card once, and it logs the #'s for payment and manes the tab using the card holders' info. Please fix this!

Pros

I really like the ease of use behind the software. There is still opportunities to expand the functionality, but overall it is great. They are constantly pushing updates, we have had 4 since we started using the system.

Cons

The "versioning" of the menus is a bit of a task and naming "flow" is flawed. It has been since we started using the product 6 months ago. They advised they are aware of the issue, but it still hasn't been resolved.

Pros

We love our Toast POS system! We have been with Toast for a couple of months now and it is one of the best business decisions we have ever made! We used to have to pay 2 separate companies for POS and one for online ordering.. with Toast it's ALL IN ONE (and cheaper than both of the old companies). Toast also offers very thorough accounting and inventory software that makes it easy for us to see where o. ur money is coming and going! The software is very user-friendly. We are happy we joined and can't wait to see what this growing company has in store for the future!

Cons

Would like the option to have both digital and print receipts available after every transaction, I'm sure they will find a way.

N/A

Our diner uses the Toast POS, while it has some connectivity issues every time it updates it's software, it's generally a very reliable system. Usually I'm the one making the mistakes of course, but it's easy to edit a ticket and map the dining area (even if you move tables around).

Pros

Easy to use screens, I know my manager likes the sales graphs (he finds them very helpful for expecting rushes, etc.)

Cons

Sometimes it freezes but the tickets are all saved when you repoen the app

So far toast doesn't have Inventory program integration. I'd also like to see integration/partnership of a tablet menu system

I can not say anything positive about this software or company to date . Still waiting.

Likes Least

Horrible training incident . Their staff member walked out in the middle of our 'go live'. No apologies from the compan . A lit of excuses on behalf of the employee by the company. He was overwhelmed, etc..., etc... My staff and I trained ourselves.

Recommendations

Don't expect much. We were told during the sales pitch it could handle our pricing strategy. Once installed, it can't. Approximately 6 months out (I do t believe this timeline) and we were told, "for what you're paying you're expecting a lot. Engineers are expensive".

Sleek system! I looked at many Tablet POS systems and Toast was the only system that ran smooth without any lag. Meet just about all my needs. Delivery, Online Ordering, House Accounts and more. Great system! Super simple to teach new employees how to use it!

Likes Least

Would like the ability to pay House Accounts in directly on the POS not just online.

Would like to be able to have a setting that makes it so all delivery orders automatically print. Currently the only setting is for To Go & Deliveries. Should be just Deliveries.

Online ordering does not have coupon code capability. NEED THAT SOON...

Delivery fee is set as a gratuity for the employee. It is not a gratuity. Need to change that as even though it is paid to the employee it is a reimbursement of expenses and not taxable.

Recommendations

Great system. Still some work in progress but the key features needed are in place and work well.
