ShiftPlanning is a web-based workforce management and employee scheduling solution. It offers a centralized platform for managers to communicate with their employees, as well as manage scheduling, documentation and payroll.

ShiftPlanning is composed of four modules: scheduling, time clock, payroll and human resources. The scheduling features of the tool allow users to automatically create conflict-free schedules, as well as copy or import schedules from third-party applications.

ShiftPlanning's time clock module allows managers to track and control employee check-ins and check-outs. The payroll module allows for payroll processing based on employee timesheets, which can be pulled out in real-time and exported for further analysis.

This solution also keeps track of human resources (HR) documentation, training and vacation days for employees.

The cloud-based software offers a robust API framework and integrates well with third-party calendar management applications and major social media platforms.

ShiftPlanning caters to clients across various segments such as Uber, Cisco, eBay, Evernote and Wasabi Group.

I like the ease of use of Shiftplanning - - it's easy to set-up an employee and to add them to a schedule.

Cons

I love that you can start and stop the service, as we are a seasonal business. I enjoy the easy to use features like copying a schedule, pictures of employees and being able to upload a whole list of employees at once. I love the easy reporting systems for quick reference. The customer service is great, and I love the chat feature.

Cons

The price per person is outrageous and you can find comparable products on the market for less. I would not pay that, but I am locked in at a lower rate. I wish you could disable multiple employees at once. It would be great if they would develop a flat rate monthly fee for seasonal business such as firework stands, corn mazes, Christmas tree farms etc. I know lots of people looking for something like that.

Remote timeclock feature.

Pros

We have several different time clock locations and this makes using the timeclock and scheduling feature easy for us.

Cons

No batch printing option for timesheets. Our payroll provider isn't a Humanity partner so payroll is time consuming for us. Also, we have been using this software for 8 months and are still trying to figure out which features work best for us. Having an in-person onboarding/set-up would have made a world of difference.

Prior to Humanity, our schedule was managed via email and Microsoft calendars. It was nearly impossible to appropriately approve vacation requests and get overtime shifts covered. After implementing Humanity the amount of stress that was eliminated was absolutely life changing!

Pros

I love how easy it is to use. I'm able to manage my ever changing schedule/staff with minimal effort. It's very easy to fill overtime slots and approve vacation requests ensuring my employees have a great work/life balance.

Cons

There are some limitations when it comes to customizing the interface. I'd like to be able to change the default option for requesting time off. I'd also like to be able to change some of the terminology used to better reflect what I'm using it for.

Saved us so many scheduling headaches. We were able to switch from an excel sheet to a program that will almost run itself (if only employees didn't get sick or have something come up last minute). We would not be able to schedule the 150+ shifts per week without humanity!

Pros

Easy to add multiple positions for each employee. Easy get setup and go. Easy to schedule for multiple weeks. Good value for features offered.

Cons

Your employees can't see the total time they've worked in the app. They can see each timesheet but they have to log into the computer to see the total hours.
Some of the more advanced features are frustrating to figure out at first.
Humanity doesn't subtract leave automatically

Without this software we would probably have to use a large table and a map with 20 figurines to track up to 6 crews working on jobs all over the country. Each day (or sometimes hour) when I get a call asking for a date to change or the project scope to increase or decrease we would have to dump the table over and start again.

Pros

Visually it is very clear and easy to read. It is also very reliable and we have had no problems. Thanks

Cons

It's definitely set up more for shift work than multiple job coverage. I'm not sure if we will be able to use this if we continue to grow our number of crews

Cuts down my work time of staffing. Emails are wonderful reminders. the sign in and out feature helps with payroll.

Pros

Love the repeat Shifts and how you can move staff around with out redoing all the work. The email reminders are convent also.

Cons

Wish you could print off a one page calendar to post in the place of work. Some times we have and error emails in regards to shifts.

easy intuitive graphical interface, great customer service for whatever questions you may have.

Cons

I believe there were 2 or 3 but off the top of my head I can only remember that the schedule editing, for repeating shifts is not that easy to edit once you create it. I believe if you change something on one of those repeating shifts there's no option to make that global. You pretty much have to delete the schedule and recreate a new repeating one to do that.

I am able to track jobs, employee hours and budgeting information with this app.

Pros

You can use either the app or the computer to schedule staff. You are able to add notes in the app for each job. I like the notifications that are sent out to staff when a change is made and the notifications I receive when a shift is unacknowledged or put up for trade.

Cons

You are not able to see the shifts that were unacknowledged on the app, you have to use the computer. You are unable to post an open shift on the app, you must assign it to a specific person.

We like the ease of scheduling our guards and getting their shifts acknowledged electronically. Our guards like the ease of access as well.

Cons

It is a hassle that they charge per active employee instead of ranges of employees. The security industry has a high turn over rate and having to disable guards regularly can be hard sometimes

Providers can see all of their schedules in one place - I do over a hundred. They can sync with some third party calendar programs and check on their smartphones.
The software is not geared toward the healthcare industry, however. MD's work more than 1 position at a time. These should not conflict. Yet conflicts should show if they're mistakenly scheduled for a clinic at another location or for a meeting when they need to be in the clinic. This is a problem.

Pros

I have the flexibility to set the software up the way I need to for efficient scheduling. My schedules are complex and I am able to create 'workarounds' to better utilize the software.

Cons

I have a few issues: I have many providers (employees) that work more that 1 position simultaneously. It would be wonderful if you could selectively check or uncheck a box for each position to determine whether the position will show if it conflicts with another position. (But not globally turn off the conflicting feature for all conflicts).

If an employee covers 2 positions simultaneously, it shows as a conflict. It would be nice if there was a `work around¿ for this. If you could select/deselect a box to designate whether you want a position to show a conflict, this would be great. That way, some positions that are covered by an employee working another position would not show as a conflict every time.

For example, There are a few positions that staff are assigned to that they do in addition to their main assigned position - e.g. someone working MCH Attending will also cover the OB Dept. This is done on a rotation/alternating basis but changes often. Whenever a provider is working MCH Attending and also covering OB Backup, I have to adjust the time of the OB coverage so that a conflict does not show up. If I didn't, I would have twenty or more conflicts each month and, as you know, once you get in the habit of ignoring conflicts, you then ignore the one that is a `real conflict and a problem results.

The conflict feature is great, yet is sometimes a pain because I have to create 'workarounds' which are less than desirable.

My company has been using this app for three years now - we reported repeatedly a few malfunctions and they never came back with anything more than "Thanks we will work on it" and the nothing happens. Problems range from sms not working to wrong break management.
We keep using it just because it's not a mission critical app and it's cheap, but when we find some time we will look for a better one.

I've been managing for over 25 years. Some things are common to all of us - such as needing notifications regarding not only shifts needing coverage, but who is picking up those shifts. Another example is the interface that managers look at first: not the personnel listing (that's an HR function) but rather a position view - or better, a visual view that is uncluttered and able to be made default. We need to see various things - such as what shifts are uncovered, what shifts are irregular (might normally be Jane, but John is covering it today), etc.

Unfortunately, Humanity does not do these things, and even though I've asked for them, I have not gotten any positive feedback for them. Some of them I've been told that they are not possible.

Humanity/Shiftplanning is the best platform I've found, commercially. I WISH that it did the things I need. I know these things CAN be done (we'd used a custom solution for years) but I wish that Shiftplanning would do them.

It seems that Humanity wants to be an HR platform and not a true management tool for managers.

Pros

inexpensive, well sited

Cons

It does not come from a management perspective, but rather from an HR one. Alerts are lacking. Shift management display (as a manager, my primary (over 90%) display) is clunky and quite often uninformative.

We are a training company and use humanity to see which of our employees have a training scheduled. But besides that, we also use the time clock for hourly employee AND we keep our office conferences there as well so that everyone in our organization can see when is a good time to meet with someone.
