Billy Software


 

Billy is a cloud-based accounting application for small businesses and freelancers in all industries. Primary features include billing, invoicing, quote management, contact management, accounting, expense management and financial reporting.

Other features include estimate creation, discount and refund processing, bank reconciliation, bank statement import, tax management and multiple-currency support. The software enables users to create customized invoices, mail them to clients and receive online payments.

Billy also has a recurring invoice feature that automatically sends invoices to clients and charges their credit card. The software can add discounts when applicable and processes refunds. The tax management module automatically adds taxes depending on the client’s location. The financial reporting module generates profit and loss reports, balance sheets, tax summaries, customer statements, accounts receivable and other reports.

Pricing is per month, and mobile applications for Android and iOS devices are available. Support is offered via phone and email.

Cons

It's still somewhat new, so they are still rolling out features that we are looking forward to. We are waiting on a few in particular.

Looks pretty. Wish I could have used it. Looks amazing from the surface. Customer support was terrible.

I don't know WHEN I have more frustrated with a companies 'service'. VERY frustrated. I was excited about this deal and jumped right on it. I tried syncing with my Cap One Spark business account (from my phone) and it didn't work so I emailed asking if this really wasn't an option. I got a list of 9501 banks emailed to me NOT in alphabetical order. What am I supposed to do with that?

I tried the chat option and explained when I added my cap one account it pulled in my PERSONAL banking details and not my business accounts which made no sense. They told me to talk to cap one, which I did.

Then I tried adding my business account info again and it kept reverting back to my previously synched personal accounts. Frustrating. So I went ahead and added my personal bill account and then deleting it and hoping that would work. Nope.

I tried calling over and over and it was always busy. They take forever to respond on chat and were not helpful at all. I finally got ahold of them and they said they dont have phone support.

That's right on the dashboard when new users sign in. I get ahold of them via chat and Joshua suggesting 'bombing' the account and starting over which I did. He said 24 hours later I could try again and hopefully it would work that time. Even though nobody did anything to help it work the next time but maybe so.

Here we are over 24 hours later and, of course, it pulls up my personal (not business) info.

I give up. Incredibly frustrated by the terrible response, being sent a list of 10k sites to dig through, being given a number they DON'T answer, having chat and not being very available.

Simple, reliable online software for generating attractive, professional invoices. Makes it easy for clients to pay by credit card or check. I've only had, at most, one occasion to call upon customer service, and when I did, their support did a good job.

Saves time and mental bandwidth taking care of billing.

Pros

Attractive, easy-to-generate invoices that clients can pay through Stripe. Just for the record (neither positive nor negative), I choose not to use the accounting features of Billy. I prefer my own system for that.

Cons

I wish there were a better system for message templates, but I use a text expander software instead of the templates and am quite happy with the outcome.

This software was easy to use in my review of a product.

Pros

Billy comes with dashboard that allows you to see major components in one space. It is very user-friendly so if you are not that tech- say no need to worry. Key features are highlighted along the left side of the screen with easy access.

I am a fan of the invoicing features for a few reasons. First you can create a one-tine invoice or recurring invoices. You can create and input products and prices. I love the feature that allows you to print or create a PDF. Customers can pay right through the PDF you send. (I'm not sure just yet what they see on their end, but I do like that this option is there for them.)

The Help area is pretty nice as well. There is a chat feature. It lets you know if someone is available or away, but there is also a library of articles with topics that you need assistance with.

Cons

I would like to see some type of PayPal integration. I wonder if there is an option or demo that allows us to see what the customer sees from his or her perspective.

It has improved and streamline my book keeping with little manual work every week.

Pros

Pretty simple app and user-friendly layout, easy to use and understand if you go through the videos! I also like the custom invoices and ability to track multiple currencies!

Cons

Tracking and bank syncing is limited and not as straight forward as other tools I have used before like quickbooks unfortunately.

First and foremost, I really appreciate that the development team are working so hard to make their users happy and constantly improve this tool.

I purchased this tool last summer during an Appsumo sale knowing that I would probably need to wait a little while to implement Billy into my business. At the time, it didn't offer features that I required for invoicing, tax management and bookkeeping.

I implemented this tool a little over a month ago and have been fairly happy since then. The dashboard is easy to navigate and once I got the hang of how to properly account for multiple currencies it was even easier.

I've reached out several times to support and have typically received prompt responses, though they are not always helpful (received links to help pages without images or tutorial videos that definitely used to have those support tools embedded). As with most support teams, patience is important.

Overall, I think Billy has the potential to be a really great small biz accounting tool and I've decided to stick around because of this. My plan is to reassess the software and how it is meeting my needs at the end of 2018 and decide if this is still the right fit for my business.

Cons

I really, really need the ability to add and track multiple tax lines. I'm in the process of figuring out a workaround, but it will likely mean tracking some of my income through a separate tool.

I also wish that the weekly office hour meetings (or a summary) could be made available in an archive for those that can't attend.

Saves me time and has far less bugs than Quickbooks Online. Easier to use and understand.

Pros

This software is extremely easy to use and understand. Unlike Quickbooks online I'm able to understand the settings and what I'm doing and why. It's far easier, but best of all, not full of bugs!

Cons

The one issue I run into is the automation with my bank is not nearly as good as with Quickbooks. Quickbooks would be able to automatically track income and expenses and sort them in the right categories. I can't seem to figure this out in Billy.

Cons

There was some hassle to find stuff that we wanted to alter on the tool. We got ir figured out after talking to support. If we could have found a way how go do it, it would have been a lot faster.

Joy beyond belief, My accounting and bookkeeping skills were causing me a nightmare, now, I actually sleep better knowing I'm on track, the product is awesome.

Pros

The Income and expense overview - I always know where my money is and isn't, Creating Invoices is almost too easy, just enter the details, generate a PDF (with your company logo on), and email to the customer, done and dusted. Bills, scan, upload, everything in date order, I always know whatI've had to pay out, and to which customer to deliver their final invoice.
Top customers and Top vendors, AWESOME feature, s much information from these two tools can be streamlined, who is happiest with what I do, who do I need to check in with so I don't lose a client, cost per vendor, find a cheaper better way to save money, yet maintain the same level of service I've personally come to expect, always streamlining :)
Seriously, this is the greatest app in my arsenal, don't believe me, TRY IT FOR YOURSELVES, Billy really does deserve a 10 star rating.

Cons

There are two things (one I know is happening), and one that would just be a cherry on the cake. The first is currently no way to link UK bank accounts, although I've been told that will appear hopefully Q2 this year, the only other feature I feel is needed, is a personal diary/journal & a personal calendar. I do a lot of meetings, it would be great to integrate new clients and their idea's from the initial meeting as part of the historical process and the calendar because it's always a useful tool to share information with to whoever is working with you. There the only things that for me would make Billy the ultimate app for anyone.

Cons

It has limitations as far as what it can do, and Billy has limited integrations. If you are needing something bigger, this may not be for you. Unless you are a zapier savant.

Pros

Billy provides a simple solution for accounting that is specifically designed for freelancers and agencies. It has a great user interface and is very easy to use. It is solid and I have never had a problem with.

Cons

The fact that key features have taken so long to evolve. I am talking about no PayPal integration and the fact that bank syncing has only just arrived in my country. The most annoying thing is that whilst key features are lagging behind the team are investing users money in having season Billy logos designed, which quite frankly is ridiculous. Their community management needs work as well.

The transfer from paying higher with Quickbooks. Saves us money.

Pros

Simple, straightforward. Some Saas products are to bloated and end up confusing. Billy keeps the basics in front of you and accessible. Intuitive to use.

It was so simple to set up. No signing forms and faxing them off, just link to your bank and your transactions appear, start coding them and issuing invoices.

Cons

This is hard to answer, it's not for complex organisations and I don't think it's lacking in any way for a single person or small organisation.

It's accounting software... What more do you need to say!

Pros

Disclaimer: I purchased the Appsumo version... SO it's well worth the price for me. There is nothing too special about it -- its accounting software!

Cons

It doesn't have the integrations Quickbooks or Xero does. AND the biggest flaw is, it's so new - will your CPA know how to use it? Will it integrate with their systems?

Could you elaborate your comment 'It's no Quickbooks". Taken literally, it's plain that we are not Quickbooks. What is it that QB does that you'd like us to do? That type of specific feedback helps us get better.

Also, if we're accounting software, for what reason would we need to integrate with another accounting software? Xero and QB don't integrate with each other...Please explain that use case so we can better understand what problem you're trying to solve.

When there was an issue, customer service was great in explaining. Invoice numbers can't be used how I used to use them... but once I start to make deposits into the account, it was explained that the invoice numbers will not be as important as they were with my last system.

Pros

Everything I've tried so far! My invoices look much more professional than they did on the previous program I was using. I also converted to email invoices vs. snail mail.
