Billy Software


 

Billy is a cloud-based accounting application for small businesses and freelancers in all industries. Primary features include billing, invoicing, quote management, contact management, accounting, expense management and financial reporting.

Other features include estimate creation, discount and refund processing, bank reconciliation, bank statement import, tax management and multiple-currency support. The software enables users to create customized invoices, mail them to clients and receive online payments.

Billy also has a recurring invoice feature that automatically sends invoices to clients and charges their credit card. The software can add discounts when applicable and processes refunds. The tax management module automatically adds taxes depending on the client’s location. The financial reporting module generates profit and loss reports, balance sheets, tax summaries, customer statements, accounts receivable and other reports.

Pricing is per month, and mobile applications for Android and iOS devices are available. Support is offered via phone and email.

The design of it, and how easy it is to use. Also their customer service is amazing. They are very responsive.

Cons

It's still somewhat new, so they are still rolling out features that we are looking forward to. We are waiting on a few in particular.

Looks pretty. Wish I could have used it. Looks amazing from the surface. Customer support was terrible.

I don't know WHEN I have more frustrated with a companies 'service'. VERY frustrated. I was excited about this deal and jumped right on it. I tried syncing with my Cap One Spark business account (from my phone) and it didn't work so I emailed asking if this really wasn't an option. I got a list of 9501 banks emailed to me NOT in alphabetical order. What am I supposed to do with that?

I tried the chat option and explained when I added my cap one account it pulled in my PERSONAL banking details and not my business accounts which made no sense. They told me to talk to cap one, which I did.

Then I tried adding my business account info again and it kept reverting back to my previously synched personal accounts. Frustrating. So I went ahead and added my personal bill account and then deleting it and hoping that would work. Nope.

I tried calling over and over and it was always busy. They take forever to respond on chat and were not helpful at all. I finally got ahold of them and they said they dont have phone support.

That's right on the dashboard when new users sign in. I get ahold of them via chat and Joshua suggesting 'bombing' the account and starting over which I did. He said 24 hours later I could try again and hopefully it would work that time. Even though nobody did anything to help it work the next time but maybe so.

Here we are over 24 hours later and, of course, it pulls up my personal (not business) info.

I give up. Incredibly frustrated by the terrible response, being sent a list of 10k sites to dig through, being given a number they DON'T answer, having chat and not being very available.

Billy is a basic account software that is easy to use and get setup. Nothing crazy involved with getting everything prepped and ready to go.

Cons

It has limitations as far as what it can do, and Billy has limited integrations. If you are needing something bigger, this may not be for you. Unless you are a zapier savant.

It makes complex accounting simple.

Pros

Billy provides a simple solution for accounting that is specifically designed for freelancers and agencies. It has a great user interface and is very easy to use. It is solid and I have never had a problem with.

Cons

The fact that key features have taken so long to evolve. I am talking about no PayPal integration and the fact that bank syncing has only just arrived in my country. The most annoying thing is that whilst key features are lagging behind the team are investing users money in having season Billy logos designed, which quite frankly is ridiculous. Their community management needs work as well.

I love how easy it is to use and the functionality of the software. It is very intuitive and it has all the reports my accountant needs.

Cons

They have an app where you can upload or send your receipts into your account. However they lack a real app where you can do things on-the-go.

The transfer from paying higher with Quickbooks. Saves us money.

Pros

Simple, straightforward. Some Saas products are to bloated and end up confusing. Billy keeps the basics in front of you and accessible. Intuitive to use.

Cons

Not as many integrations yet, however I don't use those. Just looking for the negatives to say. ;)

Simple management of my personal work finances.

Pros

It was so simple to set up. No signing forms and faxing them off, just link to your bank and your transactions appear, start coding them and issuing invoices.

Cons

This is hard to answer, it's not for complex organisations and I don't think it's lacking in any way for a single person or small organisation.

Pros

Billy is an accounting system very easy to use but at the same time it has all the advanced features a company need in a app like this one.

Cons

I dd not find the reports to be very advanced but for sure most of people does not need it as I came from Quickbooks/

I like how easy it is to figure things out in Billy. I also like that things are customizable because I have more than one business that I send invoices for.

Cons

I don't like that it takes a few days for us to have money deposited into our account. I would like the option to use PayPal as a processor as well

It's accounting software... What more do you need to say!

Pros

Disclaimer: I purchased the Appsumo version... SO it's well worth the price for me. There is nothing too special about it -- its accounting software!

Cons

It doesn't have the integrations Quickbooks or Xero does. AND the biggest flaw is, it's so new - will your CPA know how to use it? Will it integrate with their systems?

Could you elaborate your comment 'It's no Quickbooks". Taken literally, it's plain that we are not Quickbooks. What is it that QB does that you'd like us to do? That type of specific feedback helps us get better.

Also, if we're accounting software, for what reason would we need to integrate with another accounting software? Xero and QB don't integrate with each other...Please explain that use case so we can better understand what problem you're trying to solve.

When there was an issue, customer service was great in explaining. Invoice numbers can't be used how I used to use them... but once I start to make deposits into the account, it was explained that the invoice numbers will not be as important as they were with my last system.

Pros

Everything I've tried so far! My invoices look much more professional than they did on the previous program I was using. I also converted to email invoices vs. snail mail.

All my receipts are organized in one place. That means I can have my expense checks issued in a timely manner and not as a lump sum payment at year-end!

Pros

I can now send my receipts by email, use the Billy App or drag and drop my receipts from my computer. Also, linking my Credit Card lets me reconcile those receipts so I can stay on top of my expenses quickly. I no longer need to track down a book-keeper to get things organized and ready for my accountant during tax season!

Cons

When you take a photo of a receipt, using the Billy App for Android or iPhone, a cropping feature would be great.

Pros

The UI and ease of use. It's very simple, intuitive and up to the mark design, and a newcomer will not face any issue finding something.

Cons

Not really sure on this one, but probably a short 'more info' popups right over there, rather than going to the help/support page and reading about it.

The best thing about Billy is the ease of use. Now usually ease of use means "it doesn't do much."
WRONG, this is a powerful bookkeeping program. I recommend it to all my clients. You could invest more in other programs, spend time trying to figure them out, set it up wrong, pay a consultant and then only use a small portion of it, but with Billy you can do it all. (If you want they have a list of accountants and bookkeepers who use Billy and can help - but you won't need their help.)

The other big PRO is that this software is rapidly and constantly improving.

Additionally, they have a community of users who are very active in helping one another. This community also provides suggestions on how the software can improve and Billy listens. Go ask for improvements with any competing accounting software packages and you¿ll find you¿re wasting your time. Billy listens and then acts.

Bottom Line: If you are an entrepreneur you don't want to waste time or money get Billy. You don't want your employees to waste time or money get Billy. If you want to keep track of your money get Billy. If you have time or money to waste get some other program and THEN when that doesn't work like you wanted it to get Billy.

Cons

The one thing that I like least about Billy is that they don't connect with every bank. Granted, I use a small regional bank, but it is my bank and I get special treatment at my bank. I'm not going to give up Billy just because it doesn't (yet) interact with my bank.

Easy to collect payments from clients. It's as simple as that.

Pros

Very easy to use software, intuitive, and has a great UI. You can even see when a client has viewed your invoice.

Cons

There is not much I don't like about the software other than it needs more payment options. I like Stripe but I would love the option to use PayPal with some clients.

FWIW - I've already recommended the software to some friends. To my surprise, Billy makes my bookkeeping ...well... almost fun! :)

Pros

For me it's been cheaper and more fun than Quickbooks. I really appreciate how the Billy team is trying to provide positive reinforcement to use the product and keep on top of the details with Billy!

Cons

I may need to do annual reconciliation with Quickbooks to work with others (eg - accountant etc). So far it looks like that may run per year. Would like to see that cost come down.

I can really see how my business is doing, what my profit margins are and where I can adjust certain things. I run a lead generation business out of my home, and before I wasn't quite aware of how much was going out and how much I was bringing in, Once I got billy I could easily see where I could cut some unneeded expenses.

Cons

I would love to integrate the invoicing with my call tracking system (analytic call tracking) like ninja invoice can do with zapier. That would be great

I really like the electronic invoice transmittal - it adds a lot of validity to my company, as does the ability to pay electronically.

Pros

Billy is very easy to use, with lots of tutorials to help you set it up correctly, the first time.
As a cloud-based solution, it can be accessed from anywhere, on any platform.
It has all the functionality needed in an accounting platform, at a very inexpensive price.
The team is constantly developing/tweaking areas within the application, providing even more functionality while making it even easier to use.
