## Reviews summary

### Secondary ratings

- Ease of use: 4.5/5
- Customer support: 4.8/5
- Value for money: 4.6/5
- Functionality: 4.6/5

### Rating distribution

- 5 stars: 179 reviews (74%)
- 4 stars: 62 reviews (26%)
- 3 stars: 1 reviews (0%)
- 2 stars: 0 reviews (0%)
- 1 star: 0 reviews (0%)

### Most mentioned pros

- The platform improved visibility into financial and operational performance while reducing the manual effort required for monthly reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Datarails is helping solve challenges around version control, manual consolidation, and lack of a single source of truth across our forecasting and reporting processes.
- It has helped me automate our P&Ls using our newly developed data warehouse, and it’s also helped us spot issues in the warehouse along the way, which was an added perk. Because portions of our data warehouse have been delayed, our Datarails implementation has been delayed as well.

### Most mentioned cons

- Lack of training for more theoretical and complex actions in the backend of data rails, I want to be able to do what my integration specialist was doing but the information is limited to be able to do that.
- If your data infrastructure isn’t set up or maintained properly, it can create a lot of confusion within the team.
- Sometimes frustrating when a specific period is being refreshed and all values are £Nil instead of previously refreshed data.

Datarails consolidates our financial data into one database, replacing multiple spreadsheets. It has enabled us to do in depth monthly forecasts and analysis and build proforma reporting. The dashboards allow our [sensitive content hidden] to quickly analyze data without relying on Excel reports.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

It helps to streamline monthly reporting and forecasting and allows us to dig deeper and provide more visibiity into the data when needed. The implementation timeline was quick, enabling us to complete the budget faster and more accurately than in previous years.

#### Cons

I feel that Datarails functionality could use some improvement in the user interface (both excel functionality and dashboards/storyboards). Troubleshooting can be time-consuming and the online support resources available are not very helpful, however, when reaching out to customer support they are always helpful. The quick implementation timeline left insufficient time to learn the system well, making it difficult to troubleshoot and understand the mapping and intricacies at first. It took me about six months to feel comfortable as an admin.

Overall, our experience with Datarails has been positive. The platform provides a strong balance between the flexibility of Excel and the automation, governance, and reporting capabilities of a modern FP&A solution. It has helped streamline budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and executive dashboarding while allowing our team to continue working within familiar Excel-based workflows.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Datarails allowed us to leverage our existing Excel-based financial models while adding automation, centralized data management, and reporting capabilities. We particularly valued the ability to consolidate data from multiple sources, automate recurring reporting processes, create dashboards for executive and board-level reporting, and maintain version control without completely rebuilding our finance workflows. The platform improved visibility into financial and operational performance while reducing the manual effort required for monthly reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis. The flexibility to continue working within Excel was a significant advantage for our FP&A team compared to more rigid planning solutions.

#### Cons

Performance can slow when working with large datasets and complex reports. Some advanced reporting and dashboard customization features were less intuitive than expected.

#### Reasons for choosing Datarails

Ease of use, centralized hub of data for finance and operations.

### Would recommend Datarails

Overall, Datarails is a really good product. We have been able to use Datarails to create all of the reports we had existing which was great as for management this was a seamless transition from our old software. It is easy to create new reports and I would recommend Datarails as software. The real time nature of Datarails has also been hugely beneficial especially at month end.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The customer experience at Datarails has been excellent. From initiation and data integration to going live, I have found our contacts have been very helpful and responsive whenever we have a query. Always fixing, recommending a fix or directing us to datarails education sources which has been very beneficial. Datarails has enabled us to do real time updates on our reporting really easily through the excel add in. This has sped up all of report generation and presentations to management. These are also easy to create and manage within Excel. The drill down function has been particularly helpful as any questions raised, using this functions allows us to get to an answer quickly.

#### Cons

At times, I found the initial data input a bit confusing. As datarails wants to show everything in a format that is 'positive' on the balance sheet, the concept of the multiplying the liabilities by -1 to get to this was a bit difficult initially and also meant it was a bit difficult to tie back to internal reports as the signage was changed. However, I do understand why this is being done for presentational reasons.

#### Reasons for choosing Datarails

Deemed a bit easier to use than when we had the demo with cube.

#### Reasons for switching to Datarails

Anaplan was expensive and too complex for the size of our organization. It was difficult to get to grips with the functionality - Datarails has been really easy on the other hand.

Really has given us a clear vision on how we consolidate two companies together and streamline reporting and is going to add so much value to the visibility we can give our stakeholders

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 4/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

The speed at which you can pull data and slice and dice it from our financial system is impressive. It’s given us the ability to create reports and roll-ups that would have been a distant dream in the past. It did take us a while to get used to, and we’ve been using it while also building our budget within it, but now I KNOW it’s going to make our day-to-day so much easier going forward. I also LOVE that you can drill into balances to get transactional-level detail, rather than having to go back to our system to analyse it. WIN WIN! Our implementation provider [sensitive content hidden] was excellent and so helpful at taking our dilemmas about how to do something in Datarails and giving us a practical method

#### Cons

It’s quite annoying that Datarails is so sensitive to capitalization and lowercase. I wish it could simply default the parameters to one or the other, so I don’t have to worry about case differences.

#### Reasons for switching to Datarails

Not advanced enough, needed to reset parameters/dimensions that live outside of netsuite

#### Vendor response

Thank you Sam for this wonderful review! The ability to slice and dice data at speed, drill all the way down to transactional detail, and consolidate two companies for streamlined reporting is exactly what we built Datarails for. We are so glad it is going to add real value to your stakeholder reporting. We will absolutely pass your kind words on to Mihir. It is great to hear he turned your dilemmas into practical solutions. We are lucky to have him.

I personally really enjoy using Datarails - it's been a game changer for the company since it's adoption, particularly as I first encountered Datarails through a marketing post on LinkedIn. Now we use it every day in Finance and has really revolutionised how we work.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

- Saves time – Automates manual spreadsheet tasks, reducing time spent on data consolidation and reporting. - Improves accuracy – Minimises human error by centralising data and standardising financial models. - Better visibility – Gives real‑time access to financial performance, trends, and KPIs. - Enhanced collaboration – Teams can work from one version of the truth rather than sending spreadsheets around. - Scenario planning – Makes forecasting and what‑if analysis easier and faster.

#### Cons

- Slow refresh times – Large datasets or complex models can cause delays when syncing or refreshing. - Dependent on excel – Because it layers on top of excel, issues in spreadsheets can still cause problems.

#### Reasons for choosing Datarails

Better engagement, good demonstrations, and value for money.

Overall I would highly recommend Datarails for any company with large data sets that come in from several different sources and require employees to pull multiple data reports to generate monthly, or any repeating, reports. There are a lot of ways to customize data imported into Datarails and reports generated by Datarails.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

I like how Datarails can automate the data import process and report generation. With Datarails I can set up the reports and data import once and generate our monthly reports in minutes. They also have great representatives who will help you get things set up and teach you how to use Datarails. I have been mostly working with [sensitive content hidden] and they have been exceptionally helpful in making sure our data is importing correctly and making sure I know how to use Datarails like a pro.

#### Cons

We had some issues getting our data to import correctly into Datarails. We are a very security conscious company and that can make our data hard to access even by third parties we want to have access to our data. [sensitive content hidden] at Datarails was very great at working with our IT team to find a way to connect to our data, despite the difficulties.

Overall, I really like Datarails and it fits the needs of a small to midsize, rapidly growing and changing company very well. It is highly modular and well suited for a fast changing environment.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

I really like the Excel add-in features. The ability to create graphs, data tables, and widgets in Excel and publish them to a dashboard with auto-refresh allows complex calculations to be performed in a refreshable manner. I also like the version control and data storage features, which let us roll back to previous versions and review historical data.

#### Cons

The custom functions inside the Data Mapper can be finicky and difficult to use. Additionally, the ability to apply aggregate functions within a dataset is very limited compared to Power BI and Tableau.

#### Vendor response

Thank you Elizabeth for the thoughtful review! The ability to build in Excel is exactly what we are all about. We never want our users to feel like they are compromising their workflow for current data, so it is great to hear that the flexible modeling, dashboard publishing with auto-refresh, and version control are delivering on that. Regarding the Data Mapper custom functions and aggregate capabilities, please don't hesitate to reach out to your Customer Success Manager if there is anything we can help with.

### Robust System Where You'll Get Out What You Put In

I was apprehensive at first because we already had the ability to create pretty good reports between our accounting software and Excel, but I pretty quickly realized that Datarails allows us to get through our financial reporting way faster, and is way more flexible for creating advanced reporting for projections, budgeting, and analytics. What you're able to get out of Datarails is only limited by how much you're willing to put into it.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 3/5
- Value for money: 3/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 5/5

#### Pros

This is a really powerful tool that significantly improved the speed of our month end reporting. We went from having enormous, clunky Excel files to having a Datarails report package that could be refreshed instantly and didn't crash the computer. The onboarding support is very strong, and they strike a great balance of getting the work done themselves while also leaving enough to my team that we were able to learn the system so we're prepared for go-live.

#### Cons

It seems like there is a lot of technical work required on the back end to get everything to work the way it should. This comes with the territory of being such a robust program, but if I wanted to make a new report from scratch I think I'd need to rely on their consultants or dedicate a lot more time mastering the system. So far really can't complain though - they've been able to help us create everything we've requested.

Overall my opinion is very positive, it is certainly better than the system that it replaced, in terms of ease of use and the variety of scenarios where it can be more easily used. I just need it to be more up to the minute.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 5/5
- Customer support: 5/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Easily comprehensible and legible formulae for directly integrating our internal accounting system to the formats we use to communicate to the business.

#### Cons

Our integration only runs once per day outside month end, and once per hour within. This means that if changes are being made close to preparatory meetings we cannot present the actual figures as currently stand in the format that the business is used to.

Overall so far I would recommend Datarails to business's trying to consolidate multiple systems into one.

#### Ratings breakdown

- Ease of use: 5/5
- Value for money: 4/5
- Customer support: 4/5
- Functionality: 4/5

#### Pros

Data consolidation and ease of manipulating between multiple enterprise systems. I really liked the feature to perform lookups and link multiple data mappers from different file box's to a single consolidated table, the excel add in is another great feature that will definitely help us with ease of reporting and looking forward to diving into dashboards and widgets (soon to come).

#### Cons

Custom columns in data mapper syntax and complexity in terms of what it could handle. IF statements with multiple conditions had to break up into multiple custom columns.

#### Vendor response

Thank you for the great review, Connor! We are glad the data consolidation, cross-mapper lookups, and Excel add-in have been valuable so far, and we are excited for you to dive into dashboards and widgets. On the custom columns, we consider breaking out complex IF statements into multiple columns to be best practice. Keeping the logic simple and separated makes formulas easier to follow, audit, and troubleshoot down the line. That said, we also recently launched a built-in AI Assistant for Custom Columns that is worth trying and may make the process feel more intuitive.
